We all know that most pets can bring us a lot of love, but there is something else they can often present us with ' household pests such as fleas. These can attach themselves to any type of cat or dog, no matter what their, size, age, or fur length. If this is a problem that is frequently affecting your pet then you will want to learn about the options of frontline plus for dogs.
A flea is actually a pretty incredible creature. Not only does it have a huge leap, but also a female will produce upwards of one million eggs in its life.
They often will go undiscovered in our carpets and mattresses for a number of years. It takes the perfect conditions for them to hatch and make their presence felt. This is usually when there is a specific temperature and humidity.
Dogs are excellent host animals for fleas as they provide warmth and easy transport. If your dog loves to play with others in the park or on the beach then there is a greater risk that they will suffer from fleas and other pests. Be sure to check your pet carefully after any amount of time playing with other animals and dogs.
Today there are plenty of options for flea treatments when the problem arises. You could choose a strong one off treatment or go for a milder option that will take longer to have the desired outcome. There is also the convenience in the application method as well as any smells and odours that should be considered before making a purchase. If you own a large number of animals then it is important to treat them all on the same day as otherwise the problem will come quickly back.
If your pet is very young and still only a puppy then you will have restrictions on what products can be used. Usually flea powders are the best choice for young dogs. These do not need to be applied every single day; three times a week would be sufficient for the problem to disappear. Most powders will not remove the actual eggs and larvae; this is why a repeated application is essential.
The next option is flea sprays. These are generally stronger in potency than the powders. They are likely to be more toxic and so your dog may initially not want to cooperate. This treatment will also help to destroy the eggs of the fleas.
The most severe option would be to choose a flea dip. This is only really worth considering if you have a number of animals with a serious infestation of fleas. It will destroy all the eggs and adults. Be sure to maintain strict safety procedures if using a dip. The chemicals can be harmful if swallowed. This option should be carried out on an irregular basis and not every week.
