The odor of the litter box is a problem for many cat owners. Owning a male cat that has not been neutered can create an even bigger stench. Because they have the instinct to mark their area, the urine of male breeders has a smell that can be overpowering. One way to deal with the odor wafting through the house is to train a cat to use the commode, especially if it is a male that is breeding.

It is not feasible to have a male cat roaming around outside in order to do their business. Your yard will start to smell as they mark all of their territory. Not only will your house smell bad, but shrubs and gardens can be destroyed by a male cat that is scenting their yard. Not to mention the fact of the female cats that may be affected by your male. It is best to keep a tom cat inside where he will not populate the neighborhood with unwanted kittens.

Toilet training a cat, even an older tom cat, is quite easy if you have patience. When you toilet train a cat, the older the cat is, the longer it will take. This is not a huge amount of time, but younger cats will catch on a bit quicker. You can start toilet training a cat by putting their litter box in the bathroom. One huge tip, if you have two bathrooms, use one to toilet train a cat and the other to be used by the two legged people in the house.

Your cat will then get used to going to the bathroom in order to use their litter. You may even want to keep the litter box as close to the toilet as possible. If you have a small but sturdy stool, you can move the litter box to it when your cat is used to using the litter box in the bathroom. This will get your cat used to jumping up to use the litter box. The next step in toilet training a cat is to replace the litter box with the toilet.
