Pets are like family too. At least that's what you'll hear from pet lovers like me. We change their litter boxes just like we change our kid's diapers. Have you ever witnessed a person letting their dog eat from a dinner plate? Have you ever seen a pet wearing a customized outfit specially made for it? Have you ever had a cat die on you or seen a close friend who lost theirs? Pets become such an important part of our lives that it is very easy to see why people would treatthem like typical members of their family.

Do you know any couples who never had kids of their own? There are millions of American couples who have never had any children. Some people just aren't capable of conceiving for one reason or another. Others have chosen to be bachelors or otherwise single. Sometimes single adults find themselves longing for the gratification of mentoring a child. If having an actual baby isn't an option for whatever reason, some of these good people may choose to substitute a pet as if it were their actual kid.

Can you really blame these good couples for wanting that kind of extra special affection in their life? Cats and dogs are so lovable that one can easily understand how they fill the roll. Some of you probably know friends or relatives who treat their pet like it was another one of their own kids. Doing that is just their way of filling that need.

Is it someone's birthday? If your cat is going to be just like a regular part of the family, why not have a birthday party for her on her birthday? Just do what you would do for any other child. You can make her a special birthday cake. Put candles in it and help her blow it out. Sing the birthday song to her just like you would a child. Then when you're finished, go ahead and let her tear open her presents. If it is a kitten, you should wrap some kind of catnip filled object in loose wrapping paper so she will be able to tear it apart like a kid.

Get out your video recorder. Don't forget to tape the special moment so you can post it online. Look at how many other animal lovers have posted videos of their pets online there. There are some really good ones with dogs on there. If you don't believe me take a look for yourself.

Just because you don't have any actual kids around home, or even if you do, it doesn't mean you can't celebrate your dog's special day. Pick up some new kinds of toys for your little furry pal and enjoy the event just as you would with a actual kid.
