The purebreds Schnauzer and Poodle are among the world's most beloved pets so what do you do to have these two lovable creatures all in one extremely adorable dog? The answer of course is crossbreeding and this effort brings us the Schnoodle! From the names Schnauzer and Poodle, the Schnoodle is one of the newest hybrids in the world and it is slowly becoming a star on its own.

This hybrid is considered as domestic and many fanciers own it as a family pet or a loyal companion. Whether in a small spaced apartment, a spacious rural home, or even a farm home, this dog definitely fits in. It is not over the top active nor is it dormant but instead fairly active enough that a small space would suffice.

The Poodle comes in varied sizes such as Standard, Miniature and Toy. The Schnauzer comes in Giant, Standard and Miniature. Depending on the breeder, Schnoodles can come from any of these sizes although the most common is the miniature size, which can go between 7 to 16 pounds.

Additionally, not only does the size of the Schnoodle varies but its appearance and characteristics as well. For coat texture for instance, it is known that the Schnauzer has a rough and wiry coat and so some Schnoodles may inherit this trait. The Poodle on the other hand has a soft coat and so some Schnoodles may appear soft coated; in some Schnoodles, a combination of these two different coat textures may appear.

The Schnauzer has a distinct beard and so some Schnoodles may inherit this trait although it could be less dominant. In terms of coat colors, the range will go between the Schnauzer's and the Poodle's standard colors and usually these include black, brown, grey, white and apricot. Other color combinations are also common for the Schnoodles and these may include black and white, sable, parti and so much more.

The Schnauzer and the Poodle are minimum shedders to the point of being hypoallergenic therefore their offspring is inevitably a hypoallergenic dog too. In fact, many people opt to have the Schnoodle for its hypoallergenic trait. Maintaining the coat only requires weekly brushing and grooming every two or three months in order to keep the hair mat and tangle-free.

Schnoodles are relatively easy to train, clever and highly intelligent. As a household companion, they make wonderful pets as they are not yappy. They also make great watchdogs although they are not aggressive and they do get along well with other animals.

This hybrid is also extremely loyal and loving to the family and is excellent around children. It is very friendly, cheerful and does great in obedience and agility. Moreover, this dog does not only make a good family pet but a good therapy dog as well.
