The first decision you must make when you buy an aquarium is whether you plan to keep freshwater fish or saltwater fish.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/what-type-of-aquarium-should-you-select-for-your-tropical-fish/"></g:plusone>

The first decision you must make when you buy an aquarium is whether you plan to keep freshwater fish or saltwater fish. It's up to you whether you want to keep saltwater or freshwater, but if this is your first aquarium, you may want to start with a freshwater aquarium.

Salt water fish are harder to take care of and more expensive. Temperature, water conditioning and the salinity of water are only some of the things you will have to worry about with salt water fish. Because of this, freshwater fish are much easier to care for if you're new to keeping tropical fish.

You will also need to keep these things in mind:

Where is the aquarium going to be? You need to keep your aquarium away from sunlight and from other sources of heat or cold air that could affect the temperature of the water.

And don't forget that once you fill it with water, the aquarium is going to be heavy. Just to give you an idea, a filled 20-gallon glass tank weighs around 225 pounds. Because of this reason, you need to be sure of the location before you fill the tank with water.

Level floor

You will need a level floor for your aquarium, as this will reduce stress on the tank and reduce the chance of any cracks forming over time due to the floor being uneven.

The tank should be close to an electrical outlet.

Make sure your new tank is located near an electrical outlet so you can plug in the heaters, lights and pumps.

Make your tank easily accessible

You'll need to have easy access to your tank so you can use the heater controls and air valves. You also need to have room for a net, and room to move decorations around.

What shape should you select?

When you're choosing the shape of your aquarium choose short, longer shapes over tall, thinner shapes. This way there will be more surface area at the top of the water, which is much better for your fish.

Size

It is a good idea to choose anything over ten gallons. It is easier to take care of a fish living in a larger tank. Whatever aquarium you choose, it is going to, over time, have a build up of waste material. In a large tank these toxic materials have more room to be dispersed. This means the water stays cleaner for longer, and will require less cleaning than a smaller tank.

What material is best?

Glass or acrylic are usually the materials used to manufacture aquariums. Either material will work find, however, it is recommended that beginners use glass. Why? Firstly, they cost less, secondly, they don't scratch so easily, and thirdly, they only need to be supported by the edges.

You will need to consider any and all of these tips as you set up your aquarium. They are all important factors in your decision.

Due to Betta fish being so hearty it is difficult to cause them harm. However they do acquire diseases. Depending on the disease they may be long lasting or short term in nature. To be ahead of the game in treatment and comprehending a disease your Betta fish may live a long happy existence.

Betta fish disease is usually battled off by healthy and balanced Betta. So a proven way to avoid these diseases is always to maintain your Betta fish inside a stress-free atmosphere. Good care, healthy diet, the proper set-up, and the sufficient aquarium tank size is a must.

Dirty water is the most popular cause of disease so keep it clean. Ich, rot and velvet are typical Betta fish diseases.

Harmful bacteria, parasitic organisms, or natural environment frequently bring on diseases in Betta Fish. You cannot keep an aquarium clean and sterile as there are natural bacterias that must live there. If the Betta's immune system is weak the fish may be impacted by harmful bacteria. Microorganisms support parasites. The outside of the fish may have parasitic organisms (such as Odinium) that at some point may harm them.

A common Betta fish disease will cause the fins to wither apart as disintegrating. We do not want that. A treatment of "Neosulfex" should be started immediately. You will see a difference in up to thirty days. Add "Jungle Fungus Eliminator" if you do not see results. Finally keep the water clean.

Betta fish often suffer from irregularity. Untreated your fish will die. Do not give your fish too many blood worms or allow it to overeat as this will cause irregularity. A symptom of irregularity is a puffy abdomen as well as very little waste in the tank.

You will need to be careful in case your Betta fish appears to be lethargic. It may be associated with Betta fish diseases. It's also advisable to change the water regularly. Don't neglect to take out excessive food items and particles from your aquarium. Learn about the the signs of a sickly Betta fish. Should your fish begin to have difficulty swimming, appears distracted, bloated or under a healthy weight, you being an owner must be much more nurturing. All Betta fish requires plenty of proper care.

Warm water is an absolute must for tropical fish to be able to survive you must therefore, use a heater to keep the water at a stable and safe for the fish 21 - 30 Degrees Celsius.

All species of tropical fish behave differently; for example we could name the African Cichlids; which are well known for their aggressive behaviour and breeding traits. Then on the flip side you have the more relaxed Discus from South America. Barb's on the other hand are often seen "nipping" at the fins of other fish.. Do bear in mind when your choosing which fish to put in your aquarium, consider the behaviour and habitat from which the fish came from especially true if you are planning on keeping discus or African cichlids.

There are many beautiful tropical freshwater fish to choose from available in many different colours, size and shapes. Every aquarium is unique, but it should always try and replicate the fish your keeping natural surroundings by way of example; freshwater tropical fish from the lakes of South America will typically require planted aquariums with soft and acidic water conditions. This will help enhance the aquarium as a whole.

Keeping tropical fish is a very rewarding hobby and if done correctly can provide your home with added aesthetics and pleasure for you. Tropical aquariums can also be beneficial for children to, they get to learn different types of science which are related to keeping fish.

By just watching your fish swim around peacefully, even for just a couple of minutes, is very relaxing and calming, hence the reason you will often find aquariums in waiting rooms at a dentist or doctors.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/t5-lighting/"></g:plusone>

T5 Lighting has become the standard for most reef aquariums. In the past, aquarists always struggled to get enough light into their aquariums. The invention of high output T5 lighting allowed hobbyists to keep corals and clams that could once only be kept under metal halide lighting. Aquarium T5 High Output Fluorescent Lighting uses a special ballast to fire the bulbs. These ballasts are usually built into the light fixture, whereas metal halide lights oftentimes have large external ballasts that take up valuable space in the fish tank stand.

When comparing T5 to VHO there are several advantages. The biggest difference is the amount of power each bulb uses. The VHO bulb uses 110 watts of power and the T5 bulb uses 54 watts of power to light a 48 inch lamp. Yet, the T5 bulb puts out significantly more intense light. VHO also requires a larger electronic ballast that can be difficult to mount in tight places. T5 bulbs are also significantly smaller in diameter which saves space.

When comparing T5 bulbs to VHO, you are significantly limited with VHO bulb color options. There is only one main manufacture and they produce a daylight, actinic and 50/50 bulb. Whereas there are many T5 bulb manufactures, so you can always find the bulb color you want. Several bulb options include 420nm actinic, 460nm actinic, 12,000k reef, 10,000k daylight and 6,500 growth bulbs. Most aquarists prefer a combination of the different colors of light. This enables you to create a dawn and dusk effect if you have multiple lamp switches. It is best to put your lights on a timer for consistency as the corals will acclimate to that pattern. T5 fixtures are available in all of the standard aquarium lengths. T5 works bests on aquariums less than 24 inches deep because they have trouble penetrating to 30 inches or more.

When selecting a T5 Lighting Fixture there are a few things you should consider. How many bulbs should I have? A general rule of thumb is one bulb for every six inches of aquarium width. For example, a 55 gallon aquarium is 12 inches wide and should have a four bulb T5 light. T5 lighting is more intense than power compact and VHO lighting. T5 will enable you to keep almost any variety of photosynthetic coral including acropora, montipora, zoanthids, mushrooms, leathers, frogspawn, brains and acanthastrea.

If you plan to hang the T5 fixture, make sure to order a hanging kit. Most light fixtures come with mounting legs that fit on the aquarium trim. If you do hang your light, make sure that it is firmly mounted. That way it will never accidentally fall into your aquarium. Some hobbyists put it on adjustable pulleys or chains.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/freshwater-aquarium-lights/"></g:plusone>

If you are looking to start a freshwater aquarium, then you are probably trying to decide what supplies you need. Some of the starter kits include fluorescent lighting, but some others include incandescent. The truth is that the fish really do not care. Fluorescent light bulbs will last much longer than incandescent bulbs. They will also put off less heat, but are more expensive to replace. Incandescent bulbs will usually last six months if kept on a timer for ten hours or less per day. They usually cost about $3 per bulb; where as the average normal output fluorescent bulb costs about $15. There are other fancy colored bulbs like green and blue available, but you should get a white bulb as the other colors might promote more algae growth.

If you are thinking about starting a planted tank with java ferns, sword plants and banana plants then you will need more intense lighting. The most popular lighting solutions are power compact and T5. The common question many aquarists have is, which one is better?

The answer is T5 lighting is better for many reasons. Let me tell you a little bit more about compact fluorescent lighting. Power compact light bulbs are shaped like a "U" and put out significantly more light than the traditional fluorescent tube. Unfortunately, their intensity is short lived and they need to be replaced every six to eight months.

The biggest advantage is each bulb only needs to be replaced once per year. You will probably find that a T5 fixture costs a little bit more to buy, but in the long run you will save a lot of money on bulb replacement costs. Many people simply compare watts and think power compact is more intense, but that is not the case.

Therefore, a T5 fixture is more efficient because it produces more light and uses less power. You may have heard a rule about watts per gallon, this is an old standard used in the 1980s and 1990′s. Freshwater T5 fixtures cost and power compact fixtures cost the same amount of money to buy, but T5 bulbs only need be replaced one per year. Each bulbs costs about $25 online, so bulb replacement costs for the year are about $100. When selecting a bulb for a planted tank you may opt for a 6500k rating bulb. This k or kelvin rating is the bulb color; in this case it is yellow. You will find that plants grow faster under these lighting conditions, but if you are less concerned about growth you may select a 10000K bulb, which is whiter and more desirable to the eye.

However, it is no ordeal if you kick off the process on the right note from the very beginning i.e. from the stage of digging the pond in the right place and right way. Digging it at the right place can instantly cut down on maintenance problems and the frequent headache that it gives. Do not make the mistake of digging a pond below a tree as you will end up spending your time and energy in keeping the pond clean of all the dirt and fallen leaves from the tree. Here are a few simple maintenance suggestions for the same.

Using a plastic lining may also be of perfect aid in maintaining the pond. At the time when the pond is being dug, a plastic lining could be used to separate the ground from the pond. This plastic lining can prevent debris, soil and other unwanted substances from entering the pond. Nevertheless, make sure that you are using good quality plastic for this purpose. There is no point in using a plastic lining that wears away within a few days.

Another thing to make note of when using plastic lining, is to use only the appropriate sort of plastic. Avoid the plastic types that are toxic in nature as they are a potential threat to the life of the fishes. So, it's highly advisable to go for plastics that are safe for the fishes.

Another simple thing which you could do to maintain fish pond is to add variety of plants to the pond. While there are numerous plants that can increase the visual appeal of the pond, there are various others that can keep a tab on the unwanted algae growth as well. Additionally, you could look at adding some plants to the pond that are known to absorb and retain nutrients in the pond. Nevertheless, make sure that you add such plants only along the side and edges of the pond to ensure maximum nutrition absorption.

Another benefit of growing such plants along the edges is that it helps cut down on the maintenance problems. You can prevent the soil and the dirt of the edges from entering the pond by placing small rocks on the edges. Here again, avoid using any rock well known for releasing toxic substances when in contact with water. This could lead to untimely death of animals and plants present in the pond.

Sustaining a pond is not as complicated as it might sound to be. You just have to put in some effort and be be guaranteed that your pond will stay on for a long time period.

Here are a few more ways to know about Headache and Death Of Plants And Animals.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/things-you-should-know-if-you-are-planing-to-become-a-discus-fish-breeder/"></g:plusone>

Discus is one of the most elegant, ornamental fish you can have in your home aquarium. It has a unique disc-like laterally compressed body, decorated with various shades of colors, and colorful patterns.

There are few basics you should know before you try discus fish breeding. Chances of you failing are much higher if you don't know and don't follow these basic steps properly.

By learning the basics of discus fish breeding, and by applying them properly during the process, chances of you succeeding are much higher. In the following paragraphs of this article, I will highlight some of the basics you need to know in order to succeed.

First of all, lets see how you can get your hands on a good pair of discus fish suitable for breeding. There are two ways to achieve this.

1. From different locations, buy several young discus fish. Why I told you to buy form different locations is to increase the genetic diversity. Put them all in one tank, feed them well and let them grow while observing their behavior. At some point, you will see pairs forming and defending their territories. The pairs will attack any other fish trying to get too close to their locations. Remove those pairs form the common tank and put them in different breeding tanks.

2. If you are willing to spend some money, try to find a person, or an aquarium selling 'proven pairs' of discus fish, and buy a pair or two from them. Be warned, these proven pairs will be expensive and, make sure you do a proper background check before buy the them.

Next, you need to prepare a suitable fish tank for the breeding pair. Height of the tank should be around 2 ft and the tank should be able to hold 20+ gallons of water. You can make one according to the above specs or can buy a suitable tank from a shop. Keep the bottom of the tank bare. This will help when removing debris.

You need to provide a vertical surface for the discus to lay eggs. A small potted plant would be ideal. Place one inside the breeding tank. Both sponge, and power filters can be installed for better results.

Water quality is one of the most important factors which needs your continuous attention. Discus fish need warm, soft, and acidic water. Water pH level should be kept at 6.5 and the temperature should be kept at 85 F. Please sure you maintain above levels throughout and the water you add to the tank while replacing water, should also contain the same pH and the same temperature.

You should change 5% to 10% of the water in the breeding tank with fresh water, 3-4 times a week. A complete water change can be done once a week. Both will help the breeding process greatly.

Frozen blood worms are a good choice for feeding. Please remember to get rid of any left-overs after you feed them. This will help in preventing parasite infections and maintaining water quality.

Your breeding pair will be laying eggs three to four times per month. This will continue for at least three months time.
