Your search is finally over. You found one of the cutest Golden Retriever Puppies you've ever seen and just brought it home. Well, whats next? There is plenty to do but picking a name will be among one of your first tasks. Make sure its a name you absolutely love because on average, you'll use that name over 35,000 times throughout your dogs life.
With puppies, and keeping a few simple things in mind, finding the perfect puppy names doesn't have to be hard. Dogs better understand short commands so short names are easiest for them. Simple names with one or two syllables are usually best. Names for puppies shouldn't sound like any commands. Stacy and stay sound too much alike and may confuse your puppy.
Its always fun to involve your kids in the process of choosing puppy names and they often can come up with good and simple names. Just remember, that some names might be cute around home, but naming your puppy Stinky, might raise some eyebrows when you're out in public. Beware of using or honoring family members names. Your baby, yes, that would be an honor to anyone. However, to have a pet named after you, not so much. Also, purebred Golden Retriever puppies need to be AKC registered if you want to their papered status. To do that, you'll need to submit a longer, hoity-toity type of a name but it wont be the same as your everyday name.
If you're bringing home or adopting an older or adult dog, ideally, you should stick with the name he already knows and responds to. If you absolutely cant stand it because Barney was the name of the first boy who broke your heart, then choose a name with a similar sound and syllables, like Farley.
You should make a list of possible names for puppies as you go through the process. Once you've narrowed down your puppy names list and selected a name, try it out for a day or so and see how it feels. In short time you should know whether its a keeper. If not, there's always lots more possible names for puppies on the list you made.
To get ideas, you need only to look around. Great names for puppies can be seen or found almost anywhere. If you're at a social gathering, tell those around you about your new puppy and ask for name suggestions. They'll happily throw out lots of dog name possibilities. Remember this as well, someday your puppy will be full-grown. Make sure you can live with your name choice when your puppy is an adult dog.
Before selecting a name, get to know his personality for a couple days. Keep a couple things in mind during that time and it'll help you spot a name choice. Watch their appearance and what they look like. Their color, size, shape, markings and tendencies might inspire a name choice. Their personality traits can also produce a terrific puppy name idea. Stubbs might be cool for a short-legged dachshund puppy. You might choose Snippy if your cute little guy shows a little attitude. Or, maybe Puddles for the pup who cant seem to make it outside in time.
If you want to go beyond the basics, many famous dog names or foreign names can be fitting choices. Well-known celebrity puppy names are popular choices. Today, pooches can almost have as much of a celebrity following as their famous owners. These aren't Golden Retriever puppies but here are a few favorite puppy names you might consider when making your decision. Bo is President Obamas new puppys name. Lola, is a cool name used by both Hilary Duff and the Osbournes. Britney Spears dogs names are Lacey and Bit. Tinkerbell is Paris Hiltons famous pooch.
Speaking of famous names, think TV dogs. Scooby, Astro and Dino are all good choices for puppy names. Movies have made some dog names pretty famous. Farley became a recent lovable star. Several animated movies have produced lots of usable names. Try a colored based name like Blue or Yeller from the Disney classic Old Yeller. Maybe a comic name seems to fit your new puppy, such as Snoopy, Daisy or Odie. There are also the strong German names like Fritz and Kaiser. Irish dog names can be good names for puppies, such as Finn or Murphy (means hound of the sea). French names often work well. Pierre or Gigi can add a touch of sophistication. You can hardly go wrong with names for Golden Retriever puppies.
