<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/finding-caring-for-a-female-canary/"></g:plusone>

A canary is one of the hardest bird to tell a male apart from a female canary. Physically an owner will see a plumping of the entire abdomen of a female canary, while a male's abdomen will also get larger, but with the increased bulk being lower (in-between legs). The best tell-tale sign of the difference between the two sexes will be their singing skills.

The male has a very loud voice and will sing often, whereas the female will rarely be heard (A laboratory can analyze the birds droppings for a fee as well). People who wish to purchase a canary, but don't want one that wakes them up too early (males start to sing at the crack of dawn), will want to purchase a female canary if the option is available.

Most breeders will have already had the birds tested for sex, but if you decide to make your purchase at a pet store, it's possible that you'll get a male even if the bird is labeled a female.

Care

All canaries are warm weather birds and are sensitive to climate and air quality, so it's important to take proper care.

Don't place your canary in direct sunlight as it can affect the way they regulate body-heat. Keep the cage away from any breezy areas -- they're a tropical bird by nature and don't like the cold. In addition to a vitamin coated seed food; also give them bits of dried fruit and egg shells occasionally (especially if they're breeding).

Males will attempt to breed with females when they get 12 or more hours of sunlight in a day. For this reason you should keep males and females separate during this time to keep the female from being harassed too much (unless you're attempting to breed them).

There is a debate among owners about whether or not female canaries can sing: Regardless, males are the best singing canaries since singing is the way females distinguish between their suitors. Always look to a Canary breeder when you decide to make your choice (Canaries are sensitive and require proper breeding/nutrition to thrive and entertain).

Roller Canary

They're arguable the best singing canaries and will sometimes be called a German Roller Canary, or a Hartz Mountain Canary depending on where you purchase them. You could almost compare their skills to that of the Parrot -- as they are great at mimicking what they hear in their surroundings. This doesn't mean they are great at talking or repeating phrases, but they do need to be schooled by a good male (or schoolmaster as they're referred to) in order to be a great singing canary. Try to purchase one that is over 8 months old and has learned their skills from a great male Roller.

American Singing Canary

The American Singing Canaries have beautiful color combinations and was actually bred for singing. They were cross-bred from a Roller and Border Canary. Where they differ from the far more qualified Roller, is that: 1) They have only been around since they were bred in the 1930's. 2) They only have partial Roller genetics in them and the Roller has been perfecting their song for hundreds of years. 3) Some owners have found them to be a bit too loud at times, meaning some breeds of the American Singer can misbehave and will be lacking in their ability to relax and make beautiful song.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/choosing-a-yorkshire-canary/"></g:plusone>

Canaries are well known for their history and revered for for their singing abilities. Almost anyone who knows what a canary is has heard about their use as a carbon-monoxide detector leading into the early 1900's, before other means were developed (they were placed in mines as they would die if the air quality began to deteriorate and miners would know to get out of the mine).

The canaries sensitivity to air quality and airborne sickness made them popular in North America before their singing voice was recognized for excellence among potential owners. The Yorkshire Canary is among the most beautiful and sensitive of canaries, so you need to take a few factors into consideration before spending your money on the beautiful, slender Yorkshire Canary.

1.	A Yorkshire Canary should have perfect posture. They're over six inches long when mature and are known as a "Guardsman" -- since they stand so tall and proud. Yours should stand tall and will appear almost perfectly erect (head should be just past the 12 O'clock position).

2.	The Yorkshire Canary is a slender bird, however don't choose one with a distended abdomen, as this indicates the bird's lack of appetite and is normally a sign of sickness (all canaries will have a poor appetite when their health is poor). Along with the look of their abdomen: Also look at their eyes and make sure they're wide open, with a clear appearance.

3.	This is the most important rule: Buy from a reputable breeder -- Due to the canary's sensitivity to disease and poor health, you need to buy them from an expert source. This might be a local breeder working from their house, or an importer with a store-front. Whatever source you pick; make sure they have a solid reputation and offer a guarantee if the bird's health proves to be a problem.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/show-your-dog-you-love-them-with-custom-dog-beds/"></g:plusone>

Next time you're thinking of treating your dog to something special: Consider buying them one of many custom dog beds that are available out on the market. You can choose from a variety of colors, embroidery options, how hard or soft you want it to be, etc. Just like we all prefer on kind of bed over another -- so do our dogs.

People who've owned a variety of animals will quickly agree that each individual dog will show preference to one surface for sleeping over another. Some prefer a rock hard surface and are quick to stay away from soft mattresses or furniture cushions: While other dogs avoid the floor at all costs and will jump on your bed or sofa as quick as you turn your head.

Buying a dog their own bed is a way of setting boundaries and letting them know that the bed is "their territory", while they aren't welcome on other surfaces such as your expensive couch, or bed with expensive 800 thread count sheets. With the many custom dog beds out there, you're able to make something for your animal that's just for them, while making it fit the decor of the area you plan to put the bed in.

Custom dog beds can be made to a variety of specifications and range from cheap to quite elegant, as far as price is concerned. It can be hard to find beds for extremely large dogs at your local retailer, yet there are several places you can find online that specialize in making odd-sized beds for special animals.

Being able to have areas of the bed custom monogrammed is another way to add some character to your dog's bed and will be sure to let visitors to your home know how much your pet is loved and treasured.

Remember that your pet is a member of the family and choosing custom dog beds for your canine friends is a great way to say thanks for being such a loyal companion.

Before making a trip to your local dog breeder, you should consider looking at some dog rehoming centres (rescue centers) in your area, so you can give your love to a dog who may desperately need someone to rescue them.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/find-a-new-friend-at-dog-rehoming-centres-near-you/"></g:plusone>

Before making a trip to your local dog breeder, you should consider looking at some dog rehoming centres (rescue centers) in your area, so you can give your love to a dog who may desperately need someone to rescue them.

While rescued dogs have a reputation for being wild, or somehow damaged, they are anything but. You could consider it similar to adopting a child, rather than bringing a new one into the world. Animals from dog rehoming centers are already here and need someone to feed, exercise and love them.

Most cities will have several government funded and private dog rehoming centres available, where you can go and have your choice of several different breeds, sizes and ages. Anyone who might fear that an older dog will have bad habits, or be unable to train, shouldn't worry as dogs of all ages are amazing at adapting to new environments and owners.

All most of these creatures need is a little love and a family -- like most humans do. There will be a mixture of backgrounds found in rescue centers: Some dog will have been abused and removed from their abuser, others may have strayed too far from home and their owners not located, etc.

Rescued dogs from dog rehoming centres can typically be viewed online, so you can make your choice before going. This can be helpful to some people, as having thousands of needy eyes staring at you while making a choice in person can be heartbreaking. Many rehoming centers will cover the cost of necessary shots the dog may need, as well as have access to dog insurance for older animals, so you can be sure you and the dog are covered, if any health problems surface down the road.

There are few reasons not to use a rehoming center, so get down to one today and make your choice.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/getting-the-most-out-of-a-heated-dog-house/"></g:plusone>

There are a few common ways to go about getting or creating a heated dog house for your dog. Obviously, your dog doesn't have the dexterity or common-sense to stoke a wood stove in their home away from home; so it's necessary to make sure you're providing a heat-source that is going to be safe for your dog to be close to. The heater must be either safe to the touch, or be mounted somewhere that your dog can't burn themselves on.

First things first: It doesn't matter if you're buying a heated dog house with a heater built in to it, or if your adding a dog heater to your dog's existing shelter -- following a few general guidelines will make your expenses that much more beneficial to your dog.

1.Get the dog's house up off the ground. The very best thing you can do to maximize heat in the shelter is to place the doghouse on concrete cinder blocks.

While it may seem pointless to put ice cold cinder blocks between the ground and your pet: The closer you are to the ground, the colder it will be (think of how cold a basement is compared to the upper levels of a home).

2.A heat holding blanket, or bedding material will go a long way to help hold heat in the dog house and let your dog's body maintain an even temperature.

3.A ceramic heated dog house will be slightly cooler than a heater that utilizes a heat bulb as the source of heat. Each have their own advantages, but be careful that heating elements, or direct heat from a bulb shouldn't be directed at any wood. Instead have the element/bulb directed at open space for safety (or read the instructions with your heater or ready-made heated dog house).

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/indestructible-dog-bed-for-a-lifetime-of-comfort/"></g:plusone>

The search for an indestructible dog bed can get pretty frustrating for owners who have dogs who love to chew. When you do finally find something that's durable enough to justify spending a few dollars on your dog, they're often uncomfortable for your dog and they end up letting it sit unused in the corner while they jump on your sofa or use the floor to relax.

The advancement in fabric materials have given modern dog owners a variety of affordable choices that your dog will love you for. Most manufacturers use polyester, nylon -- or a mixture of the two fabrics and use special machines to make the beds with minimal sewed seams to hold everything together. Threaded seams or zippers magnetically attract the dogs and for some unknown reason they just love to rip the tread out of beds, toys, etc.

Many dogs have destroyed dog beds of the past with relative ease, while today you can find an indestructible dog bed from a few reputable manufacturers, that are so confident in their product's longevity, they'll actually replace the bed free-of-charge if your pet manages to find a way to wreck the bed.

The fabric and construction of a quality indestructible dog bed is usually backed up by including cedar chips or other materials inside the bed that are known to deter dogs from chewing through. Also, dog beds in the past had more of a contoured, pillow-like design that seems to encourage dogs to chew them up. Flat, non contoured dog beds have a higher success rate and are the primary design used currently.

There is always a possibility your dog will be able to chew through even the most indestructible dog bed on the market, so make sure you get one that has a guarantee included. No company will guarantee a product if they haven't conducted extensive testing to prove the bed's durability.

You can use cat netting to prevent your cats from harming themselves or wandering off. You can use cat netting indoors and outdoors.

Cats are often quite independent and they like to go wherever they choose to go with little regard for their own safety. Typically they do not even realize when they are about to enter an unsafe area until it is too late. The same can be said of many other pets and even people.

Cats are excellent climbers and are quite nimble. This makes it easy for cats to go just about anywhere they wish. It is also why cat owners need to take some precautions. The best way to protect your cat is often by preventing them going somewhere considered unsafe for a cat. You can use specially designed netting for this purpose.

You may choose to prevent your cat from entering an unsafe area or simply an area you do not want them in. The first step is to identify the area or areas in question and determine how much netting you will need. It is typically a good idea to get more than you think you will need.

If properly installed the netting will have a clean and neat appearance while also preventing your cat from entering any areas you do not wish them to enter.

The netting can be used to protect the cats as well as to protect other animals or pets from the cats (e.g. birds or fish). You want to follow the manufacturer's guidelines when installing the netting and check it periodically.

If you shop online you should be able to find a variety of options and types of netting. This will help you find the right netting for your cat.

These adorable creatures need a loving home and will make a great addition to your family.

There are many reasons RSPCA cats are in need of homes. Some of the cats were abandoned, some were neglected and some were from homes that simply could not care for them anymore. Anyone who loves animals knows how sad it is to see an animal in need. All of the cats at the RSPCA need someone like you to adopt them.

There is always the choice to purchase a cat from a breeder. Though that is also a wonderful thing to do, you may wish to first consider adopting one of the wonderful cats at the RSPCA.

A visit to the local RSPCA can help you see the cats they have for adoption. You will undoubtedly look into the eyes of one of these beautiful animals and know that he or she is not just a cat, they are your cat.

The RSPCA is dedicated to protecting animals. All of the cats are in need of a home just like yours. If you are able to provide a forever home, the RSPCA is waiting to hear from you.

Before you pick one of the wonderful cats at the RSPCA you should learn about the different breeds and make sure you are a good match for the breed. Every cat breed has different characteristics. Some require a considerable amount of grooming while others are low maintenance. Some do well in homes with children and other pets and some may not.

If your cat has been diagnosed with a kidney problem, CRF or other diseases that impact the kidney or digestive tract, your veterinarian may recommend that you start feeding your cat low protein cat food.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/finding-low-protein-cat-food/"></g:plusone>

If your cat has been diagnosed with a kidney problem, CRF or other diseases that impact the kidney or digestive tract, your veterinarian may recommend that you start feeding your cat low protein cat food.

Low protein cat food takes the pressure off your cat's kidneys and digestive system. Your veterinarian may suggest that you feed your cat exclusively a diet of low protein cat food or combine it with other food. It is important that you follow their instructions and monitor your cat closely.

It is not always easy to find low protein cat food in grocery stores or discount chains but you can sometimes find it. You will have more success finding these specialty cat foods at online retailers and specialty retailers (Petco, etc).

Once you start your cat on this new diet it may take them a little time for them to adjust. Try to monitor them carefully and confirm they are eating enough food. You should also note if there are any changes to their behavior and their excretions.

If you are having difficulty finding this specialty cat food at your local pet store you should find an online retailer. Typically, an online retailer will have more options and better pricing than most local cat stories.

You may need this new food for a short period time, an extended period of time or permanently. If you are going to use it for an extended period of time you will want to find a good brand at a very fair price. Some online research should help you determine the best food to buy.

Anyone in the market for cat food that is low in protein should check specialty stores and online retailers. Once you have found a food that works you should make sure you keep it in stock at all times.

Cats innocently dig in gardens and use it as a restroom. This can be particularly frustrating for someone who takes their garden seriously.
There are a number of both high-tech and low-tech ways to keep cats out of garden plants and yards. You can try one or more techniques.

Motion-Detector Sprinklers and Sounds
Motion detectors enable you to have your anti-cat systems spring into action when a cat enters your garden. The motion-detector sprinklers start once the motion detector is triggered. The water will startle and scare off the cats while remaining safe for your environment, family and pets.

There are also motion-detector sound alarms that use a high-frequency sound that is not perceivable to humans but is uncomfortable for cats. This is a good way to scare off the unwanted cats but may cause problems for pets of your own or your neighbors.
Scent Repellants

There are a number of different scent repellants you can use. There are some common household items that have been proven to keep cats out of garden beds including:

Cayenne pepper
Coffee grounds
Eucalyptus oil
Lavender oil
Lemon peels
Lime peels
Mustard oil
Peppermint oil
Pipe tobacco

In addition to these common household items you can buy any number of scent repellant products. These sprays are generally all-natural and safe for humans. Of course you will want to make sure they are not a danger to you, your family or any pets you may have.

An alternative to scent repellants is to actually create a sandbox in your yard that the cat or cats would use instead of your garden. You can keep cats out of garden beds and in a sandbox to do their business.
