Trust is lost once you inflict pain and your pet may have a different attitude towards you subsequently.

The most normal error is using the clippers too near to the skin. The shears can leave a serious cut that might provide a breeding ground to subsequent infections. If the skin is damaged accidentally when grooming, quit at once and treat the wound. Put on some antibacterial ointment and clean the injury if possible. Hug your pet to let it know that you are sorry and it was a mistake. Routinely inspect the cut and if it gets red or oozes pus, contact your veterinarian right away.
