Many dog owners wonder if you can make dog treats that include peanut butter. I imagine that this question is frequently asked because several people have become aware that nuts are not acceptable for dogs. It has been reported that many groups of nuts like Macadamia and walnuts are quite harmful.
Some problems with nuts include the levels of toxicity they can produce over time and the excessive phosphorus content which may cause kidney failure, bladder issues and even death. The same would hold true for chocolates including nuts.
There is important news for those of us that like to use peanut butter as an aid in administering medicine, rewarding our dogs with peanut butter dog treats or just sharing a bit on the tip of our finger. Peanuts are not really nuts! In fact, peanuts are really a species in the legume family (Fabaceae) to be specific. In other words, peanuts are really a type of bean!
Like many items is life, there is good and bad in most things. Initially you should feed only a small amount since dogs can have food allergies just like people. If you believe that your dog has an allergic reaction, stop feeding them peanut butter immediately. One of the best features of peanut butter is the fact that it is high in protein, just keep in mind that it is also high in calories. Organic brands can be evaluated if you are worried about preservatives and sugar.
To conclude, peanut butter has not been found to be bad to dogs. Since many products include other ingredients it makes sense to review the label. Although we think our dogs are almost human, they really can't make reliable decisions when it comes to their nutrition. My dogs are excited since they love peanut butter dog treats.

With the popularity of raw food for both dogs and cats, not surprisingly we have now a number of options to make it easier for us pet lovers to feed our cats and dogs a nutritious species appropriate diet. Or at least they should be species appropriate... many manufacturers will lump cats and dogs together when in fact cats have very specific requirements that may not be met when purchasing a commercial raw food.
When you decide to buy prepared raw food for your kitty, here are some things you HAVE to look out for:
1.Calcium/Phosphorus ratio. Cats, as opposed to dogs, have quite a narrow range of the calcium to phosphorus content of their diet. The ideal range for cats is 1.2 - 1.4:1 Calcium is found in bone and phosphorous is found in muscle meat and organs. Various types of meat will have various levels of phosphorous. When purchasing a raw prepared diet it is a must that the food has the correct ratio of calcium and phosphorous. If the information is not readily available on the manufacturers web site, nor on the package, you will need to email and call them. Make sure you get a definitive answer with the exact numbers including how they arrived to them. An imbalance of Calcium and Phosphorous can cause a serious imbalance. Next is the:
2.Percentage and Type of Vegetable matter. Adding some vegetables to a feline diet is OK as long as it is a small percentage. 3-5% is OK. The food you feed should contain max 10% veggies. No grains, of course! The percentage may not be readily available and you may need to contact the manufacturer. Garlic and onions can cause anemia in cats and should never be used. Tomatoes can exacerbate arthritis and most vegetables will raise the urinary pH which can cause urinary tract issues. Herbs should never be used long term and are frequently added to raw prepared diets. We would avoid any pet food containing herbs. Many herbs safe for dogs and humans are toxic to cats. Next We Have:
3.Organ meats. Optimally felines should consume somewhere about 10% of organ meats. Does the food contain organ meats and at what proportion? What type of organs are included? Organs provide important vitamins and other nutrients vital for the cat.
4.Taurine. Taurine is an essential amino acid. Cats are unable to synthesize Taurine, therefore it needs to be provided in the food. In the wild cats naturally consume meats and prey high in Taurine. Mice are naturally very high in Taurine. A cat eating plenty of mice would be assured of their Taurine requirement. But what cat eats fresh mice regularly? While all meats contain Taurine to some degree, handling and freezing the meat diminishes the amount. Some meats, like rabbit have a dangeroulsy low amount of Taurine while chicken hearts have a high amount. Why keep track of all that when it is so easy to add some taurine yourself? Not only is taurine inexpensive it takes a second to add some to the food at the time of feeding. We recommend about 1000 mg per pound of meat. In the early days of commercial pet food, thousands of cats died before the pet food companies discovered that they have to add taurine. Taurine deficiencies can cause blindness and heart disease which can be fatal.
Feel free to contact manufacturers if information is not available on their websites or on the food package. If the food does not meat the standards, then find a food that does.

Homemade dog food recipes have become much more popular in recent times. After the tainted dog food that caused many dogs to die, people have turned to making their own dog food using healthy and nutritious homemade recipes. Here are some things to think about if you are considering preparing your own dog's food.
A dog is a person's best friend. This is how most people treat their pet dogs. That is why they want only the best for their dogs, most especially when it comes to their food. Given that fact, convenience usually takes a backseat when dog nutrition is the subject. Most dog owners would sacrifice their time and effort just to make sure that they give their pet dogs' healthy food. Rather than buy ready made commercial food in the grocery, which ingredients they are not sure about, these dog owners would opt to have a homemade dog food prepared for their pets.
The choice to prepare home made dog food recipes might just save your pets life. It has been exposed that a large quantity of dog deaths have been caused by an ingestion of toxic substances contained in commercial dog food brands. Although, not all pet-food in our stores can be named as culprits, it's still more beneficial to be certain of what your family pet is taking in.
If you think making homemade dog food is a difficult chore, you're in for a surprise. Preparing your dog's meals at home can be just as easy as opening a can of his regular food. If you're skeptical, then you definitely want to keep reading. When you're done, you'll see how simple the task of making homemade dog food can be.
If you're looking to make homemade dog food on a budget, you can buy the ingredients that you need when they're on sale or substitute for some less expensive foods. There are also budget stores, membership warehouses, and bulk stores where you can do your shopping. Even these lower priced foods are healthier than the ingredients found in most commercial brand pet food.
Meat by-products, chemicals, preservatives, and fillers are common ingredients in many popular brands. It's been suggested that these kinds of nutritionally deficient components of your dog's meals can cause health problems, and disease. In fact, they could shorten your dog's life span by several years. Homemade meals, on the other hand, only have healthy, natural ingredients because you pick the recipes yourself.

If you are like me, you love your pet and want the very best for them. We provide them with wonderful homes, groom them well and feed them with what we think are the best dog food in the market today. Well, the home and grooming is great; but did you know that homemade food may be a better alternative to most of the goods you see on grocery aisles? That?s right; give the best by giving homemade pet food to your beloved pet.
Let?s not make a mistake though - homemade dog food is not the scraps and things you see on the dinner plate when everyone else is done. Seed, stems and large pieces of hard bone should not be handed out to canines for their meals. If your family cuisine are of a healthy and low sodium fare, then it?s alright to give them these leftovers. Other than that, plan and prepare meals specifically for him.
Take care in avoiding certain kinds of food from the canines. We sometimes do not realize that some food in our cupboards and refrigerator are actually harmful to them. A few examples of these are cheese, spicy food, chocolate, grapes and ham. Put instead healthy grains such as oatmeal, rice and buckwheat in their meals. Include chopped up pieces of chicken, beef or liver. Make an effort to ensure that all meals are thoroughly washed and cooked before serving.
Fresh vegetables like carrots, broccoli, seaweed and bananas finely chopped and mashed will make for great additions to the meals you are preparing for him. The main purpose and goal with homemade pet food is to provide your dog with the right and appropriate nutrients that will make him as healthy as possible right? You can also read up on special supplements to fill in the essential vitamins he may not always get. As always, consult your vet first before proceeding with any diet changes.
It is recommended that dog owners do not combine serving homemade and processed meals to their pets. This will oftentimes lead to indigestion. If you have always given him certain pre-packed food but want to try nourishing him with homemade fare, do so slowly. Start by feeding him small bites and light snacks of the healthy nosh in between his regular fare. If the dog seems to have no untoward physical reactions to it, introduce the new food plan gradually. Decrease the amount of regular dog food and increase the volume of fresh food being provided.
The good news is, you don?t have to worry about the bother of preparing your dog?s food every day. What you can do is to take the healthy leftovers from the family dinner table the past few days and convert it to a week?s worth of tasty canine snacks. Change the menu frequently to lower the risk of your pet acquiring food allergies. Also, this will make mealtimes more interesting to the animal as well.
Not only will you be giving your pet a healthier lifestyle; you will also save more money when homemade dog food is prepared and planned well. Use the extra savings to buy doggie toys or other entertaining treats with. Now that?s something to wag your tail for!

All of us would like to feed our kitty the best food possible, but finding a nutritious healthy food for your cat is not as easy as it seems. Looking at the beautifully designed bags filled with kibble, along with the enticing text using words such as "wholesome" "nutritious" and "Veterinary Recommended" it can be easy to be put at ease, especially after reading that the very first ingredient is meat!
Unfortunately there are a number of ingredients in cat food that not only do not belong there, they can be detrimental to your cat.
Pet food companies go through some effort to make you believe that grains are "wholesome" for your pet. The truth is that grains are implicated with a slew of health problems. Grains are also not part of a cat's natural diet.
One of the worst ingredients in pet food is corn. It irritates the bowel, it is highly allergy producing and it has a high glycemic index.
Every time your cat eats food containing corn, there will be a spike in blood sugar levels. Cats do not metabolize foods the same way we do, and do not have the enzymes and hormones necessary to keep their blood sugar levels within normal range after consuming carbs. Cats are designed to get their energy from protein, not carbohydrates.
In the wild cats consume approximately 3-5% of their diet as carbohydrates. Commercial kibble containing corn contains from 30-60% carbohydrates.
A cat eating kibble will have a blood sugar spike after their meal. Cats, having again a very different way of metabolizing food, do not release insulin in response to a high carb content meal like we do. They release insulin in response to eating meat.
The high blood sugar is highly taxing on organs such as kidneys and liver, taxing on the endocrine system and the end result is frequently feline diabetes, degenerative and auto immune diseases, and diseases of the bowel, such as inflammatory bowel disease.
Corn also helps making your cat obese. Cats do not register full after eating carbs. They register full after eating protein. A cat eating a food with high grain content will have to eat a lot more in order to consume enough protein to register full.
Switching your cat to a grain-less food frequently reverses diabetes, even if insulin has been given for some time. (A switch should be done ONLY with the cooperation of your vet, while monitoring blood glucose levels in order to prevent your cat's blood sugar to go too low which can be deadly.)
Getting your cat or dog, onto a food that does not contain corn is of utmost importance.

There has been a long running debate over which type of food is better for your snake, live or frozen. Each group has provided some very relevant points as to why they feel their method is better than the others. With that being the case, it has been shown that using frozen rodents is a safer, healthier, and more convenient way to feed your pet snake.
Feeding your snake frozen mice is a safer option for your pet. The first important thing to realize is that live mice tend to not being eaten and will fight back. Your snake could sustain scratches and other bodily injury from prey that would like to avoid being made into your pets next meal.
Small mice may fight back and leave your snake with a few minor injuries, but if you have to feed a larger snake, such as a boa, you will be introducing larger rodents like rats into the cage. Rats not only fight back, but can also become the predator in some case. There have been more than a few pet owner who have dropped a live rat into the cage of less than hungry snake, only to come back later to find the rat had been eating the snake instead.
Frozen mice supplier will in most cases guarantee that their product is health. This means that they have taken great care to ensure that their colonies are free from viruses and pests that you may see in wild feeders. It is a good idea to look for this certification when selecting a feeder supplier, whether frozen or live.
You will find that buying frozen rodents has advantages that live mice are unable to compete with. One of those is the ability to buy in bulk. A snake owner can purchase a multiple months supply and only defrost the meals they need. As long as you don't mind sharing your freezer with your snakes food, this is a great benefit.
If you buy frozen snake food online, you can also get a tremendous cost savings from buying in bulk. These companies have a low cost of overhead that turns into savings for the consumer. When they ship in bulk, but the store and the customer wins.
If you are a seasoned snake owner you know that running to the store every couple weeks to stock up on snake food can be a real hassle. That is why buying frozen mice online in bulk can be a real advantage. It is shipped directly to your home and you only have to order every few months.
Although the discussion remains ongoing, the evidence to support using frozen rodents vs. live seems to be mounting. It is a safer, healthier, and more cost effective way to feed your snake. Not to mention, more convenient for the owner.
Peter Sabae is a long time snake owner and runs a website about Frozen Pinkie Mice where you can find information about Feeder Mice. While most pet owners would pick a dog over a bird to provide companionship, love, and entertainment, the truth of the matter is that birds are equally good at providing all three and can even take the place of man's best friend if given the chance. Birds are so easily overshadowed by the stereotype cast upon Polly by Hollywood that their emotional and intellectual attributes are often disregarded in favor of a fluffy, tail-wagging puppy. Yes birds happen to sit and squawk in their cages for most of their lives, but that's only if the owner neglects to take the time and create a bond with their pet bird. Birds, like all pets, can create strong bonds with their owners and can even be trained and enjoy having fun if given the chance. Remember, the owner is the one keeping the bird in the cage. Given the chance to fly, your bird will spread its wings and soar.
Before one can turn that feathery puzzle into the perfect pet, there are a few behaviors that we as owners should be aware of. The quickest way to get on good terms with our pet is by understanding each other and birds, like dogs or cats, have unique behaviors that may seem confusing to a new owner but shouldn't be cause for alarm. Keep in mind that birds are living, breathing, and most importantly feeling creatures. In order to keep a relationship with your bird healthy, remember that birds don't necessarily have to talk in order to express their feelings. There are many other obvious signs that you will see over time that will tell you how their feeling or what they need.
If a bird becomes excited it doesn't always mean that it's upset or angry. However, there are a few behaviors to be aware of and if it does seem your bird is either agitated or exceedingly excited, it's never a bad idea to keep your finger out of its' face. Eye pining is when the eye of a bird dilates in and out repeatedly and quickly. This is often a very obvious sign of excitement, as is the flaring of tail feathers. When your bird starts clicking its beak, it is most notably a warning to keep your distance. Wait until the bird has stopped clicking or has been left to calm down over a period of time before attempting to stick your hand in the cage.
Some other movements may not indicate any excitement and rather serve functional purposes. Feather fluffing occurs when birds have finished cleaning themselves in order to rid of the excess debris that's collected within the folds of the feathers. Feather fluffing is also done to keep a bird warm, though, so if your bird seems to be doing an excessive amount of it, it may be ill. Birds may also wipe their beaks on a perch or on the cage after their done eating to rid of extra mess.
Some behaviors are bird-specific. If your bird has a feather crest atop it's head, it may flare it when it's experiencing certain emotions whether it be agitated or happy. Take note of when it happens and try to understand what triggers it. Other birds, such as the Quaker, are named for their unique behavior. Quakers shake frequently for no apparent reason, and some birds will bob their heads out of anxiousness, excitement, or agitation. Most birds will shake after a bath regardless, due to an involuntary muscle spasm in their chest, but take note if your bird seems to do it when in a particular mood.
Other normal behaviors of birds include the grinding of their beak right before they fall asleep, which indicates contentment, or the preening of feathers to keep them neat and clean. Preening is only worrisome when it turns into over-preening and the bird is constantly plucking out or chewing out feathers. Birds also regurgitate food to younger birds and those they care about. So if you and your bird are close enough, you may find that it will regurgitate for you as a sign of affection. Don't be alarmed. There is a distinct difference between regurgitation and vomit; vomit will stick to the feathers and beak of the bird.
Keep in mind that your bird was not bred to live in a cage, ergo the tight confined environment might bore your pet after a while. Give your bird space to fly free and equipment to play with. Like all pets, birds enjoy some free time and the occasional good toy. If you see your bird attempting to lift off in the cage or shuffling uneasily, it's a good bet that it's bored or needing some open air. Consider blocking off a room and letting the bird go. It will appreciate it in the long run and the exercise will relieve a lot of pent up energy. Birds will also nap frequently throughout the day. Birds will usually sleep on one leg, and if the bird looks fluffed and is sleeping on two legs it may be ill.
Your bird may also become possessive of either you or the cage, and may even show signs of jealous aggression if you get another bird or pet. Birds also have extremely obvious behavior such as hiding when they are scare or freezing in place. They may even beg for food or attention if their being deprived of either, but if it becomes an issue don't be afraid to figure out what triggered it to begin with and change it. Like all pets, birds adapt well to the wishes of an owner that is willing to take the time to work with them and understand them.

There are literally hundreds of different types of dog food in the market, and almost all of them boast that they are a healthy dog food full of fresh meats. But are they? Only the dog food ingredients label can tell you how what kind of meat is actually in there - if you know how to read them.
First, what really constitutes a healthy dog food? The fact is a healthy food differs for each pet. Dogs may be allergic to certain ingredients, have different levels of activity, medical conditions, and different stages in life. All of these factor into what type of dog food is healthiest for your dog.
Now you must figure out the quality of the ingredients used. The proteins are a very important part of a good, quality dog food. They are also a good source of confusion when looking at the ingredients list. Animal proteins can be stated in different ways. Meat, meal, and by-product are the three main categories.
What is the difference between a Meat, Meal, and By-Product? An identified animal meat, chicken for example, means the clean flesh from a chicken. Meal is simply the ingredient that has be dehydrated and ground. So chicken meal is dehydrated, ground up chicken meat. By-product is what is left over after all the usable meat has been removed (like the neck, feet, intestines, etc.) Chicken by-product would be processed and ground up chicken necks, feet, and who really knows what else.
Animal vs. Animal Meal? Which one first? Although most people think that having an animal meat as the first ingredient is a good indicator of a quality dog food, it is very misleading. Yes, you want an identified meat in the first ingredient, but listing a specific meat meal is the best.
Ingredients must be listed in order of weight. Meat still has water in it, meat meal has been dehydrated. Therefore, one pound of meat meal will have more protein and nutrients in it than one pound of meat. When actually making the dog food, the meat will be dehydrated. If they listed the meat after this dehydration, it would fall much lower down the ingredient list.
What Does a Generic 'Meat' Mean? All animal meats must be identified on the label. If the food is from a specific animal, such as salmon, it will be stated as 'salmon'. If the food is from an animal class, like fish, then more than one type of that animal could be in the meat - like salmon, tuna, cod - and will labeled as 'fish'. A generic 'meat' or 'meat meal' is the absolute worse - it means the actual animal meat cannot be even identified. You could have some cow, goat, fish, geese, etc.
A general rule of thumb for a healthy dog food is if the animal source can't be identified, this is usually a good indicator to stay away from that dog food. 'Meat' is a definite clue for stay away! A class of meat, like poultry, although not as bad as just 'meat', still makes one question the source of the meat. A specific animal meat is best.

Most people have no idea how stressful it can be to have a dog that won't eat. To quickly get your dog eating again, you must first determine whether the problem of your dog not eating is physical or psychological.
Before diving into this problem, if you have a dog with a medical condition, or a puppy, pregnant dog, or nursing dog, you need to take them to the vet immediately. These dogs have certain nutritional requirements that are better if dealt with professionally.
Is this a sudden problem? First, is he listless, or in any type of pain? If so, take him to your vet immediately. If there are no apparent problems, just wait a day or two. Sometimes your dog gets into things that upset his stomach and he doesn't feel like eating. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water and the chance to got outside as needed. If after two days he still doesn't eat, take him to your vet as he may have an internal parasite problem.
If you have ruled out a physical problem that is keeping your dog from eating, then you've got a psychological problem on your hands. Keep these tips in mind when trying to get your dog to eat.
1. Does your dog get enough attention? Some dogs get lonely and bored if they don't get enough attention. When that happens, they will do anything to get attention from you. So they don't eat their dinner - and you freak out! Hey, the attention they desire. This soon develops into an eating problem for your dog. Start interacting with your pet more - play with him and take him on daily walks.
2. What if your dog is not trying to get attention, but is just plain spoiled? Then you need to step up and start acting like the master. Simply put his food bowl down and after 20 minutes pick it up and throw the food away. Do not give your dog any treats at any time during the day. Make his mealtime the only time he gets to eat. If he still has not eaten after 3 days of this, you may want to take him to the vet and make sure there are no physical problems.
3. What is your behavior during dinnertime? Do you watch your dog? Hover over him to see if he eats? If you are anxious about your dog not eating, you may be making him nervous. Your dog is more in tune with your feelings than you realize. You may be telling him to eat, but your dog can tell if you are afraid. You are afraid he won't eat, but all your dog knows is that you are afraid.
Give your dog his dinner, and leave. If he follows you instead of eating, put him in a room with his food and close the door. Do not return for 20 minutes - just let him be. If it doesn't work the first day, try again for a couple more days. Once he senses, or rather doesn't sense, your problems, he may be able to eat.
4. Did you ever think it might just be his dog food that he just doesn't like - plain and simple. If you are feeding an economy dog food, it is pretty much like junk food and fast food rolled into one for your pet. And he may be tired of it. His body needs more. Or there may be a certain ingredient in your current dog food that your dog is allergic to. Take a look at some super-premium or all-natural dog food alternatives. This may be what he needs to start eating again.
Try using these tips and you may solve your dog eating problems. Don't let your dog's dinnertime be a time of anxiety for you or your dog.

The feeding of horses is a vital component in helping them to have the best possible health. While horses and ponies do graze , which provides part of their diet, you will need to provide forage feed for them. Forage feed aids in proper digestion and will help your horses to be in the best overall health.
While food requirements for horses and ponies can vary depending on age and how active they are, in general it is best to have them take in an amount equal to 2 percent of their body weight each day. About 50 percent of the horses diet ought to be composed of forage feed.
For optimal health, a horse would need to eat all forage feed. Owners can do some research on feed ingredients to find the feed with the higher quality ingredients for your horse.
For older horses, or horses with lower activity levels, it is necessary to keep them on a diet of forage feed alone. For horses which consume just grass, they will still need to get forage feed additionally during the colder months of the year. For breeding horses and working horses extra forage food will probably be needed.
It is important to remember that a horse or pony that has exercise and then rest days will need less food during the rest to prevent Azoturia. All changes in feed should be avoided at this time.
Feed time is also an important factor in the horse or pony's health. There should be a regular feeding time. Time should be given after exercise before the horse is fed.
The horse's heart may be strained or the horse may develop breathing problems if exercised on a full stomach. Wait a few hours after a horse or pony has been exercised before feeding.
Finally, water needs to be accessible for your horse at any time. As an owner you might wish to add to your horse's diet with supplements like seaweed, bran, or salt. Some owners give cod liver oil, fruit, or maize as well. If you follow the above guidelines for the feeding and care of your horse, you will be rewarded with a happy and healthy horse.

I started to get serious about health issues for dogs once mine started having them at the age of six. Instead of wasting time watching TV, lately, I have been studying ways to ensure my dogs have the longest lives possible.
For the ones that are familiar with my work and opinions, you will already know that I feel that commercial dog food is one of the main cause of health problems. For this reason I have become practically evangelical about the benefits of homemade dog food; I truly believe that it is the best dog food out there.
The fact is most people, even if they change to homemade food, they will need to add some type of commercial food. This is the reason why I dedicate as much time as I do to the topic of the best dog food.
During my research I come across many debates on different ingredients, and one such ingredient is meat by products. This could be listed as chicken, poultry, beef or just about any type of meat followed with the word by-product.
What does it contain and is it any good for your pet? If you really get into this matter, you will discover there are two different groups, one the feels that by-products are just fine, and the other that feels that they are unhealthy to feed your dog.
The answer is, it depends; we need to explore what it really means when we say there are poultry by-products.
The by-products taken from animals such as chicken and turkeys, consists of ground up, processed, and cleaned left over parts of the carcasses. These parts include the beaks, necks, feet, intestines, and other parts with exception of the feathers, though trace amounts may be present. The problem with "by-product" ingredients is that you don't know what you're actually getting and in what amount. Currently, no standard exists that specifies how many feet, quantity of intestines or makeup of nutritional content. Honestly, none of this is really fit for human consumption.
Some will debate that a wild dog will consume anything that is found on the by product ingredient list and this is why it is alright to give this to your dog. Although there is some truth to it, it is like saying that humans could eat from dumpsters and garbage cans if necessary.
Because I want the best possible nutrition for my dog, I'll avoid those foods that contain by-products and stick with the best dog food with natural ingredients.

Dog hip dysplasia causes an irregularity of the fit of the upper end of the dogs leg bone in the hip joint. This is a common skeletal condition.
Canine hip dysplasia is not merely a dislocated hip. With hip dysplasia, there may be torn or irregular cartilage present in the hip joint. The canine hip dysplasia can be caused by improper growth and formation of the hip joint.
Hip dysplasia is more common in large dog breeds though some other dog breeds are also susceptible to this condition. Despite the general tendency of large dogs to develop hip dysplasia, Bulldogs and Pugs are most prone to this condition than any other dog breeds. Hip dysplasia is least common among Italian Greyhounds and German Pinschers.
Many cases of dog hip dysplasia have a genetic cause. Injury to the hip joint can also cause hip dysplasia. Puppies that are at least four months old can be evaluated for hip dysplasia. X-rays may be used to diagnose hip dysplasia.
The spine and knees may develop problems related to the hip dysplasia. If a dog develops hip dysplasia, there are many treatment options. If the condition is not treated, it can lead to pain and lameness. Arthritis may develop in the affected joints.
Conservative treatment of hip dysplasia includes the management of the dogs weight and exercise. If the dog needs to lose weight, weight loss can reduce the strain on the hip joint. The veterinarian may reduce the dogs exercise or increase it to an ideal level.
Medications may be prescribed as part of the treatment for dog hip dysplasia. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers, glucosamine, and medications to treat any arthritis present are commonly used.
If the noninvasive treatment methods fail, the veterinarian may recommend a surgical treatment. Hip replacement surgery is one of the many surgical treatment options for dog hip dysplasia.

Do you consider big name dog food brands to be made with the best dog food ingredients? After studying the matter I've come to the conclusion that people are aware of a brand not because it's particularly healthy but because it's a brand that can afford some heavy advertising.
Your vet, unfortunately, does not have the best dog food available for your canine. I'll bet that 90% of Vets that sell dog food are selling Science Diet, yet it does not meet the requirements to make my top ten best dog food list.
I have done many hours of research trying to find out how to pick the best dog food, ever since my Beagle started having Seizures. I learned more about how to read a dog food label, and decipher what those ingredients really are then most people do for human food.
The problem was the more research I would do the deeper I would get into this ugly world of commercial dog foods.
It didn't take me long to figure out that I would have to learn some things about the Pet food industry in order to give my dogs the best dog food that's out there.
I have documented my findings in many articles about the pet food industry, which is virtually self-regulated, and about how the industry uses deceptive labeling language to deceive pet owners about true contents of pet food.
There is no law to assist us for selecting most suitable dog food apart from the law that makes it compulsory to mention the contents on label in descending order of weight of ingredients. If corn is the initial ingredient listed it is the largest component of the product regardless of what it is called.
Do yourself a favor and ignore the name on the bag and take a look at the ingredient list to determine what the food really is. After looking at the first few ingredients and rubbing your head, then you can look at the rest of the list which you'll have no clue what the word mean. Yet here I am telling you the label is still the best place to learn what is really in the food.
As you start to look at ingredient lists, your going to see healthy sounding ingredients like dried egg products. Don't be fooled this particular ingredient is anything but healthy. The only thing healthy in dried egg products is the word egg, and the last I checked you can't eat a word. Why do you want to feed your dog food with ingredients that need to be marked not fit for human consumption before sold? Another good one, is Chicken by-products, if you think this has anything to do with chicken you would serve your family, think again.
When you look at the listed ingredients of this item, you can figure out some of them, however it will be more difficult to identify the preservatives and vitamins as the names are less familiar.
I have learned what to look for in the best dog food on the market.
This has helped my weed through over 150 brands of dog food, and only 10 were good enough to make my top 10 best dog food list. When you compare the labels on these 10 to the brands your Vet are selling, you are going to start to take healthy feeding decisions out of the hands of your Vet and do it yourself.
