Animal Summer Camp ? Let your kids play with animals this summer as a part of the fun they can have at summer camp. Find a science camp, or a more broadly defined summer camp that includes animals as a part of their program offerings.

For many children making a connection with animals is a great way to reconnect with nature. Campers can find and develop a desire to know more about the nature they find all around them. When they follow that desire, they begin to acquire a deep respect for nature that will serve them all their lives.

At Swift Nature Camp, near Minong, Wisconsin, a unique pond aquarium gives kids a chance to see pond life from a frog's point of view, while our Nature's Neighbors live animal collection provides opportunities for up-close study and care of several common Northwoods residents as well as a few exotic immigrants. Campers with their own small animals are encouraged to bring them to camp to share with others. The animals live in the Nature Center, where all campers can enjoy and learn about them.

Working in conjunction with the Wisconsin DNR and the U.S. Park Service, Swift Nature Camp has also developed a hands-on environmental learning program which includes field trips, such as visits to a fish hatchery and state parks; hands-on field projects, like goose banding and butterfly counts; and exciting camp presentations, including visits with live owls.

Animals are a part of Swift Nature Camp's voluntary merit program, in which campers can earn special patches by learning skills in categories such as insects, bird watching, pet care, and horseback riding. Acquiring skills is never separate from the fun and play that is a part of being a camper.

The joy of discovering nature is the joy of discovering the world we live in. Living in a natural environment with access to animals is a perfect invitation for expansive play. Camp is a place where children can learn about animals as a participant rather than just receiving information. Camp is more fun and less stressful than school, and the world becomes the classroom.

Finding the Best Summer's Camps is no easy task. Below are some hints from SummerCampAdvice.com

Kids find out about animals at summer camp, if you choose a camp that includes animals in the programs they offer. Science camps offer sophisticated learning programs, but there areSummer Camps with animals that include more playful programs.

Connecting with animals in a natural setting can put a child at the beginning of a lifelong sense of relationship with nature. A deep respect for nature as an adult often starts with experience as a camper.

Swift Nature Camp, popular as a Wisconsin Summer Camp and as a Minnesota Summer Camp because of its proximity, offers a variety of ways for campers to meet and enjoy daily contact with animals. Nature's Neighbors is a live animal collection, campers are encouraged to bring their own small animals to live in the camp's Nature Center, and a unique pond aquarium shows life as a frog sees it.

Swift Nature Camp offers campers wider experience to understand animals and how we coexist with them by arranging field trips to a fish hatchery, goose banding projects and butterfly counts. And what child will ever forget a close up visit with a live owl?

Animals are a part of Swift Nature Camp's voluntary merit program, in which campers can earn special patches by learning skills in categories such as insects, bird watching, pet care, and horseback riding. Acquiring skills is never separate from the fun and play that is a part of being a camper.

Today's children grow up too fast and need time to play. The summer camp you are looking for should challenge your child to try new things, but not in a stressful way. Camp is not school! Interaction with animals can be a perfect way for a child to learn by the natural discovery of play. Besides all the fun and excitement of a traditional camp, the kids have the joy of discovering Nature and the world we live in.

Guinea pigs can make great pets - they're not too big, they don't bite and are generally very calm and friendly: perfect for those who don't want the responsibility of a dog or a cat. But they still need a good amount of space and certain other supplies before you take them home. Just use this article as a guide to what you can expect from your new pet!

Gathering Your Supplies

Before you buy a new pet guinea pig, make sure that you understand just what care its going to need. The great news is that these make relatively inexpensive pets, but youll still be making a long term commitment (most guinea pigs live between 5 and 7 years). The basics youll need include food, a water bottle, a chew toy, a spacious cage (see below), bedding and a covered sleeping area.

Making Your Pet Guinea Pig Part of The Family

If you give your guinea pig the comfortable home it deserves then it won't try to escape. It's going to need space to move around in, and guinea pigs also generally prefer company. When it comes to just how much space they will need, it's a good idea to have at least 2 square feet per animal. That way, you'll make sure they're a really cared-for part of the family.

Guinea pigs will also need the space to hide away - especially if you have more than one. Give them a covered area to sleep and hide and they'll be happy.

Getting Used to Your New Pet

Guinea pigs have always been famous for how easily they scare - but this doesn't mean it will be impossible to form a bond. All it means is that you should try to appear friendly to them at all times. For example, when you want to watch them, make sure you kneel and don't lean over the cage.

To build a bond with your new pet, gently start to pet them. It might take a little while, but when they do get used to you they are extremely friendly animals. Eventually you'll be able to pick them up and cuddle them, but just make sure to support their whole bodies and hold them gently - they're very small and delicate creatures.

Guinea pigs won't bite, which makes them great creatures to get close to. Just remember that it can take time, but once you have that bond it will never be broken!

Terri has been the proud owner of pet guinea pigs for years. Take the absolute best care of your pet guinea pig by visiting her guinea pig blog for more tips, reviews, and care information. Birds can sometimes be a little more difficult to comprehend than a cat or a dog, and sometimes that can lead to serious issues. Health concerns in a bird could be respiratory infections, or even excessive molting just to name a few. If you take care of your bird properly however, a lot of said issues can be avoided. Some things that you should do to keep your bird in good health is feed it the proper foods and go to the veterinarian on a regular basis. This article will outline a few more methods of keeping your bird healthy, so keep reading.

First, it's important to realize that every kind of bird will require different care. Birds don't have the same needs any more than dogs, cats, and hamsters all respond to the same diet and care. They may all be mammals, but they need different things. That's why you'll have to be careful and take the time to learn what's appropriate for your particular bird.

You should also be aware that many pet products on the market are not only not what's best for pet birds, but actively harmful. There's little regulation in this area, so it's legal for companies to produce and sell cages, toys, food, and medication that could be bad for your pet bird's health. The good news is that not every product is like this, and if you take a little time to find out how to care for your bird correctly, you can quickly rule out products that could cause harm.

Make sure that your bird has a proper diet that features the right nutrients. In most cases you will find that this is pretty easy because there are food packets that have the right nutrients for your particular bird. Sometimes though the seed packets are of low quality and you will need to add a few supplements in order to get the desired effect. That doesn't mean that all of them are inadequate but there are definitely a few that are so you'll need to keep an eye out for that.

A poor diet can make your bird more susceptible to infections, cause overgrowth of the beak and nails, or cause feather loss, among other conditions. Birds can be very fragile, but they may not look ill until their problems have progressed significantly. This is why it's important to make sure that you have a good veterinarian with experience working with birds already lined up, so that when you see something out of the ordinary, you can find the problem fast.

A change in your bird's attitude as well as fluid discharge in odd places such as nostrils or beak, will probably indicate that the bird is ill, or may even have a diet issue. If you find that your bird is sick, then know that the other birds in the cage will probably begin to bully it. This is something that you want to take care of immediately because it could result in death unless you take action.

Be willing to take your vet's advice when you bring your pet in, even if it means changing something major about the way you take care of your pet. It's possible that your cage has been too small, the environment wrong for your bird, or that something else is wrong. If you aren't willing to correct this problem, you're not going to be able to keep your pet bird in good health. Even if someone else has told you that your setup is fine, take the time to try and correct it, for the sake of your pet.

Being observant and willing to learn are the things that are most important if you have a pet bird. Once you take the time to find out the best way to keep your pet, you'll have a much easier time keeping him or her in good health.

Testing of water in a fresh water aquarium involves two steps, the first is when you first start an aquarium and the second stage is when the tank has already been established and you have fish in them.

Fish thrive or die, depending on the water quality, so it is imperative for their health that you understand the sort of conditions and the quality of water that your fish need to live healthily. This is not uniform for all fishes, so a bit of study is necessary.

Procedure for a new fish tank:

You first need to establish that the nitrogen cycle has taken place. This is important because after this cycle has occurred it is safe to add fish. Fish waste and undigested food lead to an ammonia spike. This is the first stage of the nitrogen cycle and you can detect this by an Ammonia test. After this friendly bacteria called Nirosomonas start to breed, causing a nitrate spike. This is the second stage of the nitrogen cycle.

The third stage occurs when nitrospira bacteria breed converting the dangerous nitrite into less harmful nitrates. Once this occurs it is safe to add fish. Add the fish gradually, testing the water every couple of days, partially changing the water if there is too much ammonia or nitrite in it. This cycle takes place over a few weeks so it is important to keep testing the water so that you know which stage of the cycle you are on.

There are three test kits that are a must for any fish tank owner, to monitor the nitrogen cycle, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate testing kits. You also need a pH testing kit to check the water for acidity. This is important because if there is too much of a difference in the acidity level of the tank they lived in before you bought them, they may die of stress or shock.

Once your tank is established you do not need to keep on testing all the time. However, you still need to check the water for nitrates. Even though nitrates are not as harmful as the nitrites and ammonia, too much nitrate can also be detrimental to the health of your fish. To avoid any kind of problems, make it your habit to check the water quality and carry out regular water changes so that your fish are healthy and active. You can control the nitrate build up by adding plants and nitrate eating fish to your tank and monitoring the quality of water.

Age and heredity can be factors in causing kidney failure in cat. A kidney failure in cat can be caused by fungal or bacterial infections. Overdoses of Vitamin D and rodent poison can do heavy damage to your cats kidneys, but there are a number of other everyday things around your home and yard that can lead to a kidney failure in cat.

While young cats may get kidney failure, senior cats, that is, cats around 5 years old and older, are prone to chronic renal failure. So be wary for the symptoms of a kidney failure in cat. Your cat has a better chance for a long life with you with an early diagnosis of a kidney failure in cat.

Recognizing the symptoms of a kidney failure in cat. Your cat will drink a lot of water. A lot. Then she will urinate massive amounts in a single session. At the same time she many stop eating or even begin vomiting. Her coat will loose its glossiness. She may hide away in a dark place and seem to be very sleepy and lethargic. She is not feeling very good at all.

Watch out for products made of Vitamin D like calcitriol and calcipotrien. Just a small amount of these can cause the calcium level to spike in your cat. The symptoms don't appear for about 24 hours, but your cat may well be on the road to a diagnosis of a kidney failure in cat.

Japanese showy lilies (Lilium speciosum and Lilium lancifolium), Easter lilies (Lilium longiflorum), tiger lilies (Lilium tigrinum), rubrum and various day lilies (Hemerocallis species) can cause kidney failure in cats and even death. All parts of these plants, including the flowering parts are toxic. If your cat consumes as little as a single leaf you better both get on the road to the vet.

A couple of popular human remedy that can cause feline renal failure is ibuprofen or naproxen. These are also called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. In effect, the kidney failure in cats occurs because these drugs are poison to her kidneys. Cats are extremely sensitive to these drugs and can experience stomach ulcers along with the kidney damage.

If you feed your cat table scraps, lay off the onions. Onions contain thiosulfate compounds that damage the red blood cells in your cat. These damaged cells clump together and form a mass called Heinz bodies. These Heinz bodies destroy the red blood cells leading to anemia and kidney problems in cats.

Consider giving violets or Easter daisies instead of Easter lilies during the Spring holiday. Make sure you keep vitamins and drugs in the cabinet and not laying around for your cat to eat accidentally. Check the garage for open containers of antifreeze, rat poison and anything with arsenic in it.
