Pet cats which feed on homemade cat food tend to be healthier then kitties which feed on commercial cat food. That being said though, some of our food is poison to them.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/homemade-cat-food-what-you-need-to-know-first/"></g:plusone>

Pet cats which feed on homemade cat food tend to be healthier then kitties which feed on commercial cat food. That being said though, some of our food is poison to them. Cats cannot have onions, garlic, or chives. Anything in that vegetable family is off limits. It can be poison!

Pet cats may also not have tomatoes, raisins, or chocolate. I have read about a feline dying from consuming just one cherry tomato. Now I'm in no way letting you know this in order to frighten you because your kitty can live a lengthier, much healthier life with homemade food. I simply want you to bear in mind that there will be danger foods.

Did you know that cats are actually lactose-intolerant? Milk won't kill them but it really could make them feel below par. Cats don't have the enzyme to break down the sugar in the dairy. If you'd like to utilize milk in your homemade cat food make use of lactose free milk. Lactose free milk is just milk that has the sugar previously broken down. You can acquire it at any grocery store.

Cats need a lot of Taurine. Taurine is a necessary amino acid that is required for the digestion of fatty acids in the little intestine. Taurine is likewise necessary for a cat's central nervous system to operate, for his or her sight (without enough taurine a cat will lose it eye sight within two years), as well as for their muscle groups to operate correctly. Felines have to get this amino acid from the foods that they eat. Taurine can be found in raw meats. Once again this is just something you need to understand.

As with anything else you do in life, obtaining the proper know-how makes all the difference when you are trying something new. Cats are also like little kids. If you attempt to feed them homemade kitten food they might snub their nose at it the first number of times but keep trying because it will make a world of difference in their health.

Giving your cat homemade cat food is an wonderful way to help your cat live long and healthy but be certain you properly learn how to prepare the homemade cat food before you begin so you know that what you are making is healthy.

One of the only real advantages of feeding your cat commercial cat food is the cost. You can comfortably feed a cat for pennies on the dollar with the low-grade, low-nutrient food you buy on the shelf of your local pet store, or supermarket. What many of us don't know is that most of what comes in such foods are animal by-products, fillers, etc. that your cat doesn't need: While essential nutrients are added to the mixture during manufacturing. Homemade cat food puts a nutritious meal in front of your cat and the best thing about it is you know exactly what they're eating (as opposed to the "mystery mix" that comes in commercial cat food).

Meat

Meat should be the main component of any homemade cat food. Cats have been conditioned over the last couple of hundred years to eat what we give them. Up until the early part of the 1800's; cats ate wild animals that they hunted and ate them raw after the kill. For this reason you should consider feeding your cat raw red meat, supplemented with chicken and fish a couple of times per week. What you put in your homemade cat food might be different, but remember that red meat will give them the bulk of the nutrition they need.

The "Raw vs. Cooked" debate is a no brainer, since many essential nutrients are lost during the cooking process. Humans need to cook meat because our bodies are designed for a vegan diet and can't handle the naturally occurring parasites in raw meat. Cats will thrive on raw meats and may in fact eat much less, since their nutrient intake will be much higher than before.

Vegetables

You can add in some vegetables to put some color to your cat's food. The easiest way to test what they will and won't eat is to give them what you're making here and there to find out their preferences. Oats, rice, barely, wheat and corn are all healthy for your cat, even in large doses -- other vegetables are fine, but your cat may not eat them.

Many cat owners are discovering that they enjoy making homemade cat food for their cats. Some cat owners make their own cat food out of concerns about the contents and nutritional value of manufactured cat food.

When cat owners make their cats food, they can create meals that are more similar to what a cat would eat in the wild. Many manufactured cat foods have much less protein and more carbohydrates than a cat would naturally eat. Some people who make their own cat food claim to save money, which is more likely for those who make several servings of cat food and freeze the bulk of it until it is used.

Raw food diets for pets have become increasingly popular. Some cat owners who make homemade cat food use meat grinders to grind meat and bones as the main component of the cat food.

If someone wants to make cat food without buying a meat grinder, the cat owner can follow a simple homemade cat food recipe. Some easy homemade cat food recipes do not require the purchase of special tools of ingredients that are not readily available.

A simple homemade cat recipe includes the cat owners choices of meat, vegetables, and other ingredients. The meat choices for this recipe are one cup cubed, cooked chicken, 6 ounce can of salmon, one can of tuna, one can of sardines in olive oil, or " cup beef, cooked and shredded. Tuna should not be used too often due to concerns about mercury content.

After the meat is selected, choose at least one vegetable. The suggested vegetable choices are chopped, steamed broccoli, cup shredded, steamed carrots, finely chopped celery, or cup cubed, cooked potato. The cat owner may want to try different combinations of vegetables and meat to find the homemade cat food recipe that the cat likes best.

The vegetables and meat are mixed with a little chicken or beef broth. One or two tablespoons of cooked oatmeal or some cooked rice may be added to the meat and vegetable mixture.

In order to ensure that the cat is receiving a variety of vitamins and minerals, the cat owner should avoid always feeding the cat the same foods. Trying different combinations helps make sure the cat is receiving a nutritious diet.
