Training a puppy to accept a collar and leash is probably the single most important thing that you can work on when you start his training. Puppy leash training can begin almost as soon as you get him settled in his new home.

When you train your puppy to become used to a collar and leash, you are establishing the idea that you are in control. This is a really important point for your dog to understand if your training is going to be successful.

As soon as you can get your puppy to live with his collar and lead, you will be able to start focusing on other areas. Here's how to train him to accept his collar and lead.

Be sure to buy a collar that is puppy size. Don't get one that you think he will grow into. If it's too loose he won't keep it on. But on the other hand, it should be big enough that you can adjust it for awhile. The rule of thumb for sizing is that you are able to fit two of your fingers comfortably between the collar and his neck.

At first when you put his collar on he'll need lots of affection and attention to stop him from thinking about the strange thing around his neck. It will take some time for him to get used to it. After he is used to the feel of the collar you will be able to move onto the next step in your training of your puppy. Leash training becomes much easier if you give him time to just get used to wearing his new collar before trying any other training.

Next, attach a short but very light leash to the collar. Make sure the leash is not any more then about three feet. Let your puppy drag the leash around for short periods of time. You want him to get used to how it feels to have something attached to his collar.

Keep a close eye on your puppy while he is wandering around with his lead attached. If he happens to get stuck while you are not around, he may become agitated and frightened. You want him to see how it feels to be restricted for a brief period of time, but you don't want him to become upset when it happens. Quickly free the lead when it gets stuck.

It won't take long before he gets used to the feel of his leash. When this happens, instead of letting the leash drag freely, attach one end of the lead to you. Allow him to explore and get himself stuck like before. But this time, do not go to him to untangle his leash.

Instead try to help him get rid of his distress by crouching down and calling his name. Entice him to get himself unstuck and to come to you by offering some toy or treat. Give him his treat and lots of praise when he does come to you. Be sure to continue with this every day for short periods. After a few successes each day, remove the leash from his collar, but leave his collar on at all times.

When he routinely returns to you when called, your puppy leash training has been a success. You can now move onto the rest of the training program knowing that it will be much easier.

After working with your new puppy teaching him to accept a collar and leash, he will be ready for a rest. Why not provide him with a cozy heated dog bed for inside. Even in summer, he'll find his bed a warm spot in an air conditioned home. For outside, help him keep cool with a coolaroo dog bed. Coolaroo dog beds sit off the ground allowing for air flow underneath.

Choosing the best bird feeder is not as simple to do as you may think. Certain factors must be considered by the bird feeding enthusiast in order to make an informed choice. The types of birds you wish to attract (small, medium, songbird, ground feeder or perch feeder ), ease of cleaning and filling the seed container, quality, capacity, types of material the feeder is made of (metal or plastic), durability, and most importantly of all the ability to thwart squirrels and larger unwanted birds.

The spot you select to place your bird feeder also determines the kinds of birds that you will see dining on the feast provided. Perch feeders for example prefer to feed from platforms or from feeders hanging from a tree limb or the eave of a porch and ground feeders like to feed from sources closer to the ground.

Squirrels are considered such an enemy to the bird feeding enthusiast that a whole technology has been developed with thwarting them in mind. Weight sensitive perches that close the feeding ports when a certain threshold is reached, collapsing spring loaded perches that drop or fling the offending pest away from their prize, and trays that tip under a certain weight are only a few weapons against the enemy.

The feeder that frequently offers the most effective squirrel proof technology is the tube feeder. Hobbyists keep ease of cleaning in mind when choosing this type of feeder. Special brushes are also available for to aid in cleaning of the tube feeder.

A mesh bag, synthetic or cotton, does not offer much in the way of temptation for a squirrel. He, or she, is not interested in the type of seed, thistle, the bag is used to offer to the smaller varieties of birds.

The traditional method of offering seed to the feathered ones is known as a hopper. Unfortunately, few have the defensive capabilities necessary to defend its contents against the acrobat that is the squirrel.

Another device that has had its problems in the past is the platform feeder. Now though squirrel, and larger bird, thwarting measures have been added, which include chicken wire meshes placed over the seed containers.

The best bird feeders are the ones that are specifically designed for the type of bird you wish to attract to your backyard. Quality and durability are also factors as enthusiasts wish to feed their feathered friends a for a long time to come. Most important of all use the technology available to thwart bird feeding enemy number one, the wily squirrel.

An increasing number of dog owners appear to prefer training schools, more than the do-it-yourself strategy. Dog training schools can be very costly. However, in the event you are lacking the needed expertise, or the time to dedicate for this activity, these types of schools can be found to carry out every thing for you.

Training schools for most dogs have begun appearing throughout nearly every town over North America and also Europe. Adding quite a bit of hype as well as pitch to their claims, many actually offer you all your money back if they don't do well. Some of these schools may be the sole option for pet owners, whose lack of experience leaves them no other solution.

Several pet owners assert that the amount of money charged by these schools is excessive and unjustified. Nevertheless, if perhaps you take an instant thinking about the actual expenses, including nutrition, equipment, and also training locale, you'd soon come to realize not all the actual fees go into their - the company - purses. There are essential costs, as well as the job salaries for seasoned dog handlers. Seeing as a background check happens to be performed on the trainer, exactly what better place will there be for your dog to find out to behave?

Be ready to face the consequences with taking your dog to training school. Certain dogs could feel the stress piling up and act accordingly. Equip yourself with a bag and also a scoop, as these will be the most usual indications of tension. Continue to keep your dog on a lead, and notice just what interests him or her and what doesn't. It is likely they might not like some of his fellow schoolmates a lot and would like to do something about it.

Ultimately, never pass on a bad attitude toward the animal, attempt to relax and enjoy your self and the dog should probably do precisely the same. Always keep your pet amused by drawing their focus towards you, at least until he or she has had a chance to become familiar with the atmosphere.

With fresh laws coming forth relating to public behavior regarding dogs, training classes are the final and only useful resource for some pet owners. For breeds for example the Boxer, or the Pit Bull, dog keepers will want to place more caution on their instruction so that it will save their dog from being put to sleep by local authorities should anything terrible happen.

The cat purr; everyone knows exactly what it means. Contentment, satisfaction, comfort and sheer, dazzling delight is felt by the precious little kitty curled up on a warm and squishy lap. Until the moment knife-sharp talons poke through your trousers to your tender thigh, the sound of a cat purring calms any weary soul.

Kittens learn to purr from a very early age; around two days old. It is likely that their communicative purrs are limited during their first weeks so when kittens suckle and purr at the same time, the likelihood is they are purring out of happiness and satisfaction. Don not be fooled however, because all these positive emotions are not the only reason cats purr. Primarily purring is a form of communication and the ability appears in a large number of big cats and wild cats, too.

Kittens are playful and curious creatures, which really suggests they are deceitful and manipulative, luring you in with their big blue eyes and telltale purring, waiting for the moment you move to stroke them so they can sink their tiny fangs into your hand. They will purr as they tear the flesh from your bones, indicating just how happy they are.

As a cat matures, the reason they purr changes. When the cat becomes older they may purr to indicate that they are happy or content with their lives. However, this is not always the case as sometimes a cat may make this noise if they are extremely frightened of something or if they are not very well. In fact, when it comes to these cats (including the feral types) they may purr to show that they submit or will not act aggressively towards others.

Also you may find that when a female is giving birth to a litter of kittens she may purr as they are being delivered. They may use this as a way of helping them to relieve some of the tension and pain they are feeling. Plus it may also provide them with reassurance and comfort. When it comes to cats purring, studies carried out have shown that it is quite common for those cats who are close to death to begin to purr as well. They feel that this type of purring is helping to create a more euphoric state in the animal or is as a result of the anxiety they are feeling.

Recent theories suggest that when cats release endorphins (also found in humans), they start to purr. Endorphins are released both when the cat is happy and when the cat is in pain, making it difficult to determine the precise reason a cat may be purring.

They need them to have the best care possible and be content. Part of providing the best care incorporates providing the best nourishment. All the different sorts of dog food produced can make deciding what's best hard for owners. There are lots of selections that are highly healthy and nutritive, while others are very unhealthy with almost no nutritive value.

The most nutritive foods seem to be those offered by the bigger companies, in part, because they often test for food quality and nutritive worth. Out of all the differing sorts of food available, dry food has an inclination to be the least dear. Many owners like dry food because they've got one or 2 dogs and it costs noticeably less to feed them. Having the facility to store the food also helps the wallet, should you purchase it in quantities when it is on sale. Dry food is also faster to make arrangements for your dog, as all you do is pour it into a bowl.

The semi-moist dog foods are occasionally made of about twenty-five p.c. water and beef products, making them intensely well liked by many dogs they don't seem to be surprisingly good for the dog's teeth as they can are high in sugar content. They're also high in additions and additions, which most owners would rather avoid. Semi damp food is often the costliest food to get.

As with the dry food, it all varies with each manufacturer, ingredients, nourishment, quality, taste, are all different from brand to brand. Canned foods win the commend bonus hands down. Canned foods supply a full meal in one can, which is often handy for owners of pets. They typically are made from animal by products, and contain more moisture than other dog foods.

They frequently contain the least chemicals, and are the most simple food for dogs to digest. Purchasing canned food can be dear, particularly if your dog eats a lot, or if you have two to feed. As with purchasing any food, it is always commended to read the labels, so you know what the ingredients are.

You don't have to buy the costliest food for it to be nutritive, you just need to be a smart buyer. It's essential not to feed your Pit Bull too much, and to be sure he gets heaps of exercise. If you are still mystified about the sort of food that'll be best, your vet should be in a position to help.

To start we will discuss the negatives of using homemade kitten food and then go to positives of using homemade kitten food.

Making homemade kitten food can be time consuming. Lets face it; there is nothing easier then opening a bag or can and pouring it into a bowl. When you make your own kitten food you will have to set some time aside every two to three days to prepare the food.

On the other side, the more used to making homemade kitten food you are the less time it will take you to make it and it has been proven that the more your cats diet resembles his natural diet in the wild, the healthier and longer your cat will live.

Making your own kitten food will cost more money in the beginning. A kitten eats uncooked meat and veggies.

It will actually cost you less money in the long run to feed your cats homemade food. When your kitten gets the right amount of nutrition he will be sick less often. That means that you will spend less on vet bills. You still need to get your friend his shots but the sick vet bills will be greatly reduced. Your kitten will also eat less when he is properly feed.

You can't just start feeding your cat homemade food because some of our food is actually poison to him. Make sure you do your homework first and do it thoroughly.

Some of the foods that are poison to cats is onions, garlic, and tomatoes. Your cat should not eat anything that is considered part of those food groups. Cats are also lactose intolerant. Milk will not kill your cat but it will make him feel bad.

Just like everything you do, when you know the rules and follow them, you won't have to think about them. It will become second nature.

Feeding your kitten homemade cat food will allow your kitten to live a long, healthier life. Feed your kitten homemade kitten food.

The myth that dogs are colourblind has been circulating for many years. The truth is that dogs dont just see in simple black, grey and white. In fact they have no problem seeing a list of other colours from yellow to violet. What they do have difficulty seeing is hues of red, green and orange.

Dogs eyes have something called photoreceptors in their retinas. These are divided into two categories rods and cones. Dog's eyes have a high number of rods. Comparatively, human eyes have a high level of cones. They are also missing the fovea seen in human eyes, preventing their vision from being as clear.

Despite this and their inability to see objects in great details, dogs have excellent night vision and a superior ability to track movement.

So, how was it discovered that dogs see in limited colours? Around 100 years ago tests were carried out (purporting to be scientific) to determine just what sorts of colours dogs were able to see. However, the actual tests that were carried out did not help to determine the range of colours that dogs could see, but rather they showed that colour vision does not play a part in a dogs daily life.

It was another 90 years before further tests were carried out to determine whether dogs are colourblind or not. In 1989 the three researchers Neitz, Geist and Jacobs carried out a number of tests on domestic dogs and were able to determine the following. 1 Dogs have two kinds of colour receptors in their eyes and so are dichromatic. 2 In dog's colour receptors, one peaks for the blue to violet range and the other for the yellow to green range. In 1993 and 1995 further research was carried out that again supported these findings.

Dogs in fact suffer from a form of green colour blindness similar to human red-green colour blindness. This particular illness is more commonly referred to as deuteranopia.

The term colourblind can often be misleading. It does not automatically suggest an incapability to see colours. It is a specific condition that some humans are also known to suffer from and though dogs are not capable of seeing a similar level of colours as humans, they can see shades that fall between blue, violet and yellow.

Are you thinking about bringing home a new canine addition to the family? If so, you will want to make sure you are prepared for the proper training and tools necessary to make sure the addition transitions well. While you can opt to train your dog yourself, if you don't have experience it may be well worth taking a dog training course with your puppy.

If you already have a dog, perhaps you have seen the show "It's Me or the Dog" and thought - that sounds like me! If your dog is running your house, perhaps you should consider dog training school. Many times dogs misbehave not because they are bad, but because the owners don't know how to train them properly. Investing in a training program for you and your pooch will create a happy and peaceful relationship.

Often, pet owners get caught in a power struggle with their dog. Learning the right body language, tone of voice, and reward system for your dog are essential to keep you in control. Owning a dog is like being a parent, and some well given advise can save the day.

Dog obedience school provides young puppies and fully grown dogs the opportunity to socialize. Learning to interact with other canines is an important skill when you take your dog out. By going through a dog obedience course, owners will develop friendships for themselves and their dogs.

Dog owners that participate in a class with a formal setting will be taught commands in the premium environment. The instructor will be able to teach the owner to speak so the dog understands, and will be able to model body language needed to get results from your dog. There are tips that while simple, are often not well known to the general public. An instructor will be able to watch you work with your dog and to modify things that need work.

In a classroom setting, the dog will be learning in a busy environment with distractions. This means that the skills should transfer easily to the home environment where there are not other things going on. Unlike teaching skills at home, where they may be quickly forgotten once distractions are introduced, the classroom offers multiple benefits.

By enrolling your dog in a dog training program, you are on the way to a long, satisfying friendship. A well trained dog will ultimately be more secure, well behaved and confident. Being able to trust his owner will give consistent results in behavior. Dogs will also be more predictable around visitors and children when the owner is in charge.

A dog that is trained well will allow you to fully enjoy the benefits of dog ownership. Dogs will also give fringe benefits as well - lower incidences of illness, a source of exercise, and an outlet for social interaction. This benefits both owner and dog!

Keep your dog healthy and happy dogs health

Things That Are Needed in Your Red Eared Slider's Tank

You have to know what equipment you'll need when building your red eared slider tank. To start, your turtle's tank should be from 25 to 50 gallons, depending on the size of your turtle. A good rule of thumb to follow is to have ten gallons of water per inch of turtle. For example, if you have a seven inch turtle you should count on a seventy gallon tank. Following this rule will ensure that you are giving your turtle enough room and will help it be its healthiest.

Your turtle's tank must have water and a "land" area. Make sure the water is deep enough that the turtle can be submersed completely. Keep in mind that your red eared slider is aquatic and spends much of its time in the water. But because your turtle cannot breathe under water, it need a land area to rest on. Do not use organic materials, but stick to things like rocks for the land area. If you include things like wood chips, your turtle may eat them (which is bad for its health) or they may rot and grow fungus.

A filtering system is optional for keeping the water clean. If you do not use one, you will need to keep an eye on your turtle's water to make sure it stays clean. Remember that excess turtle waste left in the tank can make your turtle sick.

As a cautionary note, it is important to keep in mind that if you do have an automatic filtration system, it is not set to suck in water too hard. If your turtle gets caught in the system and stays submerged for too long, it can drown.

The Right Temperature Inside Your Red Eared Slider Tank

It is important to have the right temperature inside your red eared slider tank. One thing that is important for your indoor pet turtle is to try to keep it warm. Ideally, their surroundings should be kept at 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. You can lower the temperature 5-10 degrees at night. You should use a heat lamp to keep the tank at an ideal temperature.

As a side note, you should be careful about sudden shifts in temperature for your red eared slider. This is normally the result of moving the turtle from indoor to outdoor, or vice versa. Turtles are cold-blooded reptiles and can be very sensitive to sudden shifts in their environment. One of the toughest things for a dog owner to deal with is having a dog that is aggressive. Not only is it extremely difficult to deal with an aggressive dog but it can be risky as well.

Before you do anything else you should find out what exactly pushes your dogs buttons that makes him act aggressive.

Do they exhibit dog aggression towards other dogs?

If that is the case with your dog one thing you can do to get rid of some of his dog on dog aggression is to make sure you grab your dogs attention when you are approaching another dog.

If you have done any dog training with your dog then you might be familiarized with the simple command of watch me. This is a great command and what is does is when you tell your dog to "watch me" they need to look you directly in the eye.

If you can get your dogs attention on you then you have a good chance that they will not get aggressive towards the other dog.

You also want to make sure your dog cannot make direct eye contact with the other dog. When dogs make eye contact with each other they are challenging each other to prove who the leader is. This can be a major cause of aggression if both dogs think they are king of the hill.

Another way your dog might be aggressive is with his food. Some dogs will get aggressive when they are eating and get very territorial. If you dog is aggressive when he is eating then you need to make sure children are not around him anytime he has food or a bone.

One thing you can do is make sure your dog does not get to eat his meal until everyone else in the family has eaten and finished their meal. This will let the dog know that he is the low man on the totem pole which is very important when trying to curb dog aggression.

If your dog is exhibiting signs of aggressiveness, for example food aggression in dogs or dog aggression towards other dogs then it is time to do something about it. SafeDogObedienceAdvice.com is a free resource for training your dog.

There are all types of amphibians. Beyond frogs there are axolotls, newts, and more. Once you have seen a few amphibians in your local pet store you will know that they are some of the most colorful creatures out there. This makes them great to watch, and you can also select colorful and attractive plants for their vivariums.

Amphibians were on planet earth before any humans, and in fact before any reptiles, birds or mammals. They truly are the link between man and the creatures of the ocean. Amphi is the Greek word for life, and bios is the Greek word for both. Amphibians derived their name from the fact that the can live on both land and water. Amphibians have two stages to their life cycle - the first in the water, and the second during which they spend more time on land.

Amphibians slough their skin from time to time, and usually then eat it. Their skin comes in a remarkable array of colors, in order to ward off predators, and for the purpose of camouflage. Another strange fact about amphibians is that they are ectotherms. This means that they rely on the external environment in order to regulate their body temperatures. These external temperatures can be recreated in the terrarium by using heat lamps or heat maps. Exotic pets need thoughtful care.

One thing that you may remember from a school science class is that amphibians are vertebrates with a full skeleton. They even have toe bones. They do have teeth, but these are to hold the prey before it is swallowed rather than to chew. The skeleton helps protect the internal organs of the amphibian.

Amphibian reproduction is a hit and miss affair: of the thousands of jelly-coated eggs that are laid in the water, and on the leaves overhanging the water, only a handful will ever make it to the next stage of the life cycle. Often this is less than one percent. The reason is that amphibian eggs are a good source of food for predators.

These are just a few basic pieces of information about these exotic pet amphibians. You will learn more if you decide to keep them. One final interesting fact is that they both breath and drink through their skin. So make sure you provide them with good quality water as this water-permeable skin makes them very sensitive to their environment.

For more details on the amazing world of tropical pets then why not see with site http://www.squidoo.com/amphibians-exotic-pets. Happy reading!

Using your voice to persuade your dog to learn something new is a great dog training aid. Use your dog's name before you state any command, and use a persuasive tone of voice. What is a persuasive tone? It's best to use a low, but pleasant, firm tone when dog training.

Speak to your dog all the time while you're engaged in dog training. Training your dog to retrieve may take some time, and dog training aids can come in useful for this purpose. A very light dumbbell is a good dog training aid to use when training your dog to retrieve. Again, use your voice to effect - immediately your dog takes the dumbbell, praise him repeatedly in a happy voice, and also pet him.

Always keep a happy tone with your dog when training. Becoming angry will never assist in your training efforts. It will only serve to confuse your dog and make him anxious.

Always remember that your dog is trying to please you. This is the case even when he is not following your commands. Your dog may not understand what you want of him. He is not being deliberately disobedient.

Once your dog understands what it is you're attempting to train him to do, he will be more than happy to repeat the action - probably over and over again. One thing you can be almost certain of is that you will get bored before your dog does!

For example, if your dog does not understand what you want him to do with the dumbbell that you have selected as your dog training aid, try gently placing the dumbbell in your dog's mouth and holding his jaws closed around it. Be careful not to graze your dog's teeth on the dumbbell.

Dog training times are a wonderful opportunity for you to spend one on one time with your dog. Dogs love this. They love training with you, but you will need to be patient at times. Your dog will not always understand what you want him to do, but as soon as he does, he will be happy to comply.

Once your dog has become used to taking the dumbbell from your hand, he will probably want to perform this "trick" over and over, because he knows he is pleasing you.

Once your dog understands the taking of the dumbbell, you need to extend the reach of the item. Place the dumbbell on the ground in front of your dog and ask him to "Retrieve" or "Fetch". Then start moving the dumbell further and further away from him. Your dog will soon get the idea.

What are the more important features of dog training? Find out what they are, and discover how dog training aids can assist when training your dog to retrieve, to fetch, and much more.

Nothing is worse than discovering your pet has a serious illness, and finding that if you had gotten attention earlier, it would have been less severe. Sometimes the smallest change in personality or behavior can signal the onset of an illness, so knowing what is and is not normal for your pet can be essential. When you see something abnormal, it can be helpful to know some basic things to watch for.

Always remember that early detection of health problems is a key in successful treatment. To detect things early pay attention to even small changes in personality or behavior. For instance if your pet is normally outgoing and friendly and all the sudden is hiding beneath the furniture or whining when you pet him that is a good indication he may be sick. The better in tune with your pet you are the better health detective you will be. You will also be prepared with times and dates should your veterinarian need them.

Blood in your pets urine or feces is always a serious problem so even though it may seem somewhat gross to inspect it is a good idea to check it every once in awhile. Viruses such as parvo present in bloody stool and bloody urine can indicate kidney disease or failure. When you are talking about these types of illness time is of the essence so do not delay. Your attentiveness and quick action could very well save your pet's life, get her to the veterinarian as soon as possible.

Nausea and vomiting is common in all pets and usually means they have eaten something that does not agree with them. However if the nausea is coupled with fever, lethargy or pain this could be a sign that veterinary attention is required. Repeated vomiting can lead to dehydration and allow secondary infections, which may be fatal. Again, this is where paying close attention to their health and symptoms of common illnesses is vital. Remember too that many times your pet will look fine but be gravely ill they have evolved to be that way.

When thinking about dog health symptoms, you'll find that one thing that you can keep in mind is to check the coat. Remember that a dog's coat, whether it is thick or thin, should be relatively glossy and healthy looking. If you pet your dog and realize that he or she is a lot rougher or that there are some bald patches underneath your hands, you need to think about what might be causing it. In many cases, you may find that there is a problem with your dog's diet or a skin problem.

These a few basic health problems can easily be detected when you know what to look for. In conclusion, take the extra time to interact daily with your pet and pay attention to the little things. You never know when you may inadvertently save your dogs life by noticing symptoms of failing health early.

If you own a poodle, you will find that one of the expenses that will start eating away at your pocket book is grooming them! Many people are finding that grooming poodles themselves can both help them save their money and help them get to know their pet a little bit better as well. While the art of poodle grooming might seem a little esoteric, the truth is, anyone who has a bit of patience and a willingness to help their pet look the best that it can can do a fairly accomplished job.

Grooming standard poodles completely takes about three hours, once you get good at it. While you're still learning, you might have to spread the job out over a few days. This is both to give you a break, and for your poodle. If you're not willing to learn poodle grooming on your own, or are worried about the time it takes, you'll have to choose a professional to do it. Remember to pick this person out carefully. Talking to other poodle owners is a good way to find a good groomer.

Remember that you have a choice of trims available to you when you are thinking of grooming poodles. You'll find that the poodle's curly, stiff hair will allow you to take advantage of many looks. Remember, also, though, that some looks are more care intensive and require more maintenance than others. Show poodles will certainly require more maintenance and a more conservative cut than pet poodles.

If you have a show poodle, remember that it will have a lion cut of some sort. A lion cut has three standard variations, including a puppy cut, an English saddle cut and a continental cut. You'll find that these all have ths ame standard look and they all come from a time when poodles were used to retrieve birds that had been shot into the water, as the long ruff of fur on the chest would protect the lungs and the fur on the legs would protect the bones.

For non-competing poodles, there's a lot more to choose from. You can choose a shorter trim, which is easier to maintain, and especially easier to dry in the winter. longer trims are showier, but they'll require more maintenance. Check some grooming books, or take a look at a few poodles to figure out what you prefer.

When you are considering grooming poodles, you'll find that clipping the fur on the feet, face and the bottom of the tail very short for hygienic reasons, because it will allow for less food to get trapped there. You'll find that when you clip the that things don't get trapped between their toes, and you'll also find that the shorter the coat is, the easier it is to cut and dry. Remember to wash your poodle before you groom it to keep your tools in good shape, and the better the equipment you get the better off you'll be.

Americans, including American dogs, are gaining more and more excess weight. They may live contentedly with their owners, but a lot of dogs are less active than they should be and eat less appropriate diets than dogs did only 10 to 20 years ago. We see more illness, more vet bills and dogs with much shorter life spans as well. Some people have begun putting their dogs on special diets. First they do the research to find out what their dog should be eating in the way of regular meals and dog treats. Once they know their dog information, they can make sure they are giving their dogs what they need.

Concerned owners have started to use their dog information to cook and/or bake their own dog food and snacks. Use caution! If you make your own dog food the wrong way, you can end up harming your dog more than helping them. For instance, there are certain meats and fats that your dog might have trouble digesting. There are some foods that are harmful to dogs and can cause illness. Some of these foods are chocolate, grapes and/or raisins, and dough. Like humans, dogs should never eat moldy food.

Some companies will make an all natural dog food for you. These companies have done the necessary research and they know your dog information, especially the vitamins and minerals your dog has to have to survive and be healthy. They are also aware of what foods your dog should avoid as they make him sick. Some companies, such as Flint River Ranch Dog Food, make human grade dog food, which means a person can eat it without becoming ill.

Today you can buy dog treats that are safe enough for people to eat. Specialist pet bakeries create these snacks and bake them just as if they were cookies or bread. Ask your pet bakery if you can bring your dog in for samples so you may buy the dog treats he loves most. Whatever you decide to feed your dog, make sure that you do your research to give your dog the best possible life. Plenty of water, rest, and exercise are all part of having a healthy pet and keeping him healthy. Remember that we are our pets' best friends and they need us to make wise decisions for them.

Family dogs in America, like their human counterparts, are becoming more obese and less healthy. This is primarily because of diet and decreased activity. Many people research dog information sources to learn what dogs need to eat and how much they should eat. If you are one of the people who want to make your own dog food at home, do the research carefully. If, however, this is not appealing to you, consider a provider such as flint river ranch dog food, which manufactures human grade dog food. Many safe dog treats are also available that are safe for humans to eat.

You'll wish you had pet insurance ... There may come a time when you have to seriously, and urgently, consider the cost of veterinary treatment. This situation happened to me a couple of years ago when I was looking at spending four thousand dollars to save my dog. Although he is a part of my family, I did wonder at the time (I feel ashamed now), if the cost was worth it. Medical science cannot cure everything and pets are vulnerable too. However, no matter the outcome, you will still have to pay for the cost of treatment.

Keeping your pet healthy is a large financial responsibility, and these additional costs can place a person in debt. If your credit card is at its limit then often a bank loan is the only answer.

The financial aspect of looking after a pet is something that must be considered carefully. When money problems occur, temporary or otherwise, this causes further worries. If your credit card is at its limit then often a bank loan or a loan from friends or family may be the only answer.

Pet insurance is not high on most American's agenda despite tens of millions of pet owners; the reason for this remains a mystery. Generally speaking, health insurance is not something that people neglect; should we be forgiven for not caring enough about our pets then?

Although there are a large number of pet owners in the States, most do not see a reason to have pet insurance; the reason for this remains a mystery. The average American will have health insurance; so we should do the same for our pets.

So other than rising costs, what are the main reasons you should consider cover for your pets. Anyone who owns a domestic animal needs to be prepared for health problems occasionally; when this happens, the cost of treatment may even cause financial strain.

The last thing you should have to deal with is the stress over the expense of saving your animal.

Various pet health insurance options are available; perhaps to incorporate more than one pet on the same plan. Pet owners providing a health plan for their pets is not the luxury you may think it is. Perhaps the information supplied here has made things are a little clearer now and you won't delay further. Your pet's life (and your finances) may depend upon it!

Raising a dog is like raising a baby. Like our own children, they look up to us to give them food, shelter, and proper nourishment. As a responsible dog owner, it is our responsibility to give them the best care we can and to make sure they are given proper health care.

Dog urinary tract infections happen at the parts where urine forms and is excreted out of the body. A mild case of infection is not easy to detect. That is why in most cases, dogs are treated only when the infection is already on its advanced stages.

Dog urinary tract infection is a rising health problem in today?s society. Previous studies have revealed that approximately--% of the entire dog population in the whole world is bound to contract canine urinary tract infection.

How can your dog contract UTI? Dog urinary tract infection could arise when any of these types of bacteria get into your dog?s body and overcome its immune system: proteus mirabilis, escherichia coli, pseudomonas, coagulase positive straphylococcus, esterococcus, or klebsiella. These types of bacteria could get into your dog?s system through the food they eat and the water they drink everyday. Likewise, dogs can develop UTI through an instance called ?ascending UTI?, a condition which occurs when the bacteria had gained access into the dog?s internal system through its external urinary openings.

Using natural substances or herbal medicines to help cure urinary tract infection not only works well for humans but for dogs as well. Herbal medicines are as effective as the best antibiotics in the market. A number of herbs that have beneficial properties and effects for dogs and which are excellent natural remedies for urinary tract infections for canine patients are the following: 1. Staphysagris 2. Berberis vulgaris 3. Uva ursi 4. Cantharis 5. Goldenrod 6. Juniper berry

Although dogs are bound to suffer dog urinary problems in any given time of their life, it is still important that owners know how to at least minimize the possibilities of their dog contracting such a disease. Some of the ways to prevent this from happening are the following: giving the dog enough clean water to drink everyday, giving the dog a regular bath and shampoo, giving the dog proper nutrition and diet, bringing the dog to the vet regularly for check-up, and giving the dog citrus juices and vitamin C.

If you notice any of these symptoms in your dog, then chances are your dog has UTI. In such cases, it is best to bring your dog to the veterinarian so that it will be given proper medication. Do not try to give your dog antibiotics from your shelf, which are usually prescribed for humans as such medicines may not be advisable for dogs. It is always best to consult a veterinarian before giving your dog any medication.

Dog urinary tract infections are life-threatening for dogs. However, they are highly curable. The most important thing is that as a dog owner, you are able to suppress the growth of the infection by knowing its different signs and symptoms.

Trying to find a solution to urinary tract infection in dogs or searching for a remedy for incontinence in dogs, look to the experts.

Most dog owners never consider dog insurance until they're faced with a large veterinary bill. And the fact is that you can never foresee when you'll need to seek veterinary care, or how much it will cost. Not infrequently, a visit to the vet to treat an injury or an unexpected illness can cost hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. Ouch!

How easy would it be your dog or puppy to break his leg? It happens every day, regardless if these pets stay indoors or are allowed to roam free in the yard. And can you guess how much it will cost you out-of-pocket? The average veterinarian costs for a broken bone is around $900. The monthly premium for dog insurance is pennies compared to such an expense for medical care.

Dog Insurance Options

As with any type of insurance, dog insurance types vary from company to company. Some label their products as pet assurance, as opposed to pet insurance, but it's pretty much the same type of cover. Either way, you can expect most dog health insurance plans to provide coverage for the following:

Spaying and Neutering: As you know, all dogs (except those being professionally bred, or shown) should be de-sexed. Many dog insurance policies cover the entire cost of spaying and neutering, which is great, because those procedures cost at least a couple hundred dollars for a straightforward operation - never mind if your dog experiences expensive complications, which can happen with any surgery.

Prescription Flea Control: Most dogs remain flea-free with Frontline and similar flea control products that are available over the counter at your veterinarian (or at pet stores or online). But a few dogs have ongoing problems with fleas such that prescription flea meds may be required. Most dog health insurance plans cover these prescription flea control meds.

Annual Veterinary Examination: This is essential for all dogs, even if you think your dog is in peak health. The annual checkup can identify illness and disease before it progresses into something much worse, so that treatment can start at the earliest opportunity. Many dog insurance policies cover the annual veterinary examination costs.

Heartworm Medication: Should your dog be diagnosed with heartworms, the medication needed may also be covered by most dog insurance plans.

Lab Fees: Blood tests and other lab work should also be covered by most dog health insurance plans. Such tests may include blood work for worms, diseases, and abnormalities with pregnancy.

Teeth Cleaning: If your dog suffers periodontal disease, or you are unable to keep his teeth clean by other means, surgical teeth cleaning is often required. And because it's performed under anaesthetic, it's pretty expensive. Good news - your dog insurance should cover this, too.

Hospitalization Fees: Accidents and illnesses do have a habit of occurring when you least expect them. And they can be very expensive, as already noted. There is also the possiblity of complications of other procedures, such as de-sexing procedures or even teeth cleaning. Complications of surgery may require that your dog have blood transfusions or be monitored in intensive care. Now that's a big expense. So instead of being landed with an exorbitant vet bill, your dog insurance will cover you.

For dog insurance advice and its alternatives, choose a dog health insurance for every financial circumstances.

Holistic dog health care is becoming a natural way for pet owners to provide a dog health diagnosis so their cherished pets are always at their healthiest.

Nutritional needs are perhaps the most important aspect of dog health, and of course a dog's nutritional needs are completely different to members of the human species. Dogs need a certain balance of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to make sure their digestive systems as well as the skeletal system, joints, and organs are kept as healthy as possible. Holistic dog diets usually require proteins, vegetables, and a small amount of grains. They do not need fillers and over-processed foods that are so often a feature of commercial dog foods.

Using a variety of essential oils, plant extracts, herbs and flowering essences, people have treated numerous ailments and conditions over the past thousands of years. Ancient healing practices have found their way into the field of pet healthcare in the recent times, to keep up with the increasing demand for a more natural approach to dog health diagnosis and treatment.

Calendula and chamomile may be recommended for promoting the healing of wounds, with the latter often being used for the treatment of respiratory ailments also. If your dog is suffering from constipation or a bowel disorder, crushed flaxseed mixed with plenty of water may be helpful. Dry, itchy skin, can be soothed with oats, and if your dog is having trouble sleeping, you may well find that lavender essential oil may help your to relax fall asleep just as well as it will work for yourself if you suffer from insomnia.

Your vet can provide valuable input and recommendations in relation to holistic dog health care, but if you have a vet who is not interested in discussing alternative health methods with you, you should do your own research, as well as consider finding another vet who is willing to listen to your views about the use of alternative treatments for your dog.

In recent years, thousands of veternarians have made holistic dog health diagnosis a greater part of their practice. A vet practicing holistic pet medicine cares for the whole animal instead of just finding a specific problem and prescribing a single therapy for that particular trauma or disorder.

For example, your dog has suddenly come down with a red, irritating rash and has started losing some fur. A "regular" vet would most likely prescribe a topical ointment and an antibiotic medication to stop the infection and itching.

A holistic veterinarian will place more emphasis on determining the cause of the rash as the source of the infection before prescribing those two remedies. Before coming to a conclusion or offering treatment, the dog's entire lifestyle are taken into account, incorporating his living environment, nutrition, exercise and all habits.

As many an animal lover would know, dogs are generally a happy, loyal, and lovable breed. Sometimes we hold off adopting a puppy because training her would require too much of an effort. Fortunately, there are simple dog training tips available that cover the basics and help get you started to a colorful and rewarding relationship with your dog.

First of all, you will have to set your leader status in the dog's eyes. Once he recognizes you as his authority he will follow you without much trouble. Establish this daily with regular routine that mirrors the animal world's system. Allow your dog to watch you eat first and feed him only after you're done. Don't walk around him if he is obstructing your path. Gently force him to leave his position by pushing him out of the way. As he acknowledges you to be the leader of the pack, the easier it is to teach him in the future.

Dogs can pick up your emotions even as you handle them. Use a firm and authoritative voice in training. However, it is also important to note that dogs respond well to positive reinforcement. Give him doggie treats every time he correctly accomplishes a command. If he makes a mistake, you have to correct him during the time it happens not after. Train him for ten to fifteen minutes several times a day and be effusive in your praise with his performance.

You will find that all dogs have consistent behavioral patterns that are a reliable index to their state of mind, so to speak. Happy dogs have wagging tails, a joyful bark and an open expression. Angry dogs will bare their teeth, snarl and tense up, ready to attack. Recognizing particular signs and correctly responding to it will help you in training him successfully.

You will need patience in training your dogs tricks. Dogs are best taught at around six weeks of age but if he's been around the proverbial block a few times, there is still hope. Remember, you need to be cool and collected even when he messes up, especially in the beginning. Your patient guidance will see him progress sooner or later. Be consistent in your teaching patterns and training schedules. Confused dogs will forget what you want them to learn.

When teaching your dogs tricks, do so in an area you will least likely be interrupted. A more interesting object may be a better source of entertainment for him than the present training session. You will be hard-pressed to keep his attention when that happens. A backyard free from commotions, or any quiet fenced-in area will be a good classroom for him.

More than anything, keep in mind the reason you got the dog in the first place. Enjoy his doggie company! When training is beginning to seem like a chore, take five and just play around with him. Dogs will lavish you with unconditional love whatever may have happpened to you this week. And at the end of the day, it's not how well he rolled over but how he got you to smile that makes him the perfect pet to have.

The dog is regarded as their best friend by many dog owners but they may not give much importance to the dog food. For dog information, many people turn to veterinarians. Some vets will recommend vitamin supplements or medications, but all that is required is to change your dog's diet as when your dog starts eating healthier, you may see improvements in its overall health.

You could also opt to make your own dog food. Flint River ranch dog food is also advisable as they manufacture their pet foods under rigorously controlled conditions. This is a top level dog food that will make your pet lick his bowl clean.

Many turn to their veterinarian for dog information and advice. Some vets will recommend vitamin supplements or medications. But this might not be necessary. It's possible that just a change to a healthier diet could make the difference in a dog's appearance, energy level and overall health. Lots of dog food products are made with leftover scraps from machines at the food processing plants. That not only sounds unappealing, it also is not the best choice for your dog's well-being.

There are alternatives for those dog owners that are seeking dog information regarding a healthy diet. One option is to make your own dog food. You can use the foods you prepare for yourself and your family. Simply cool the food to room temperature in the refrigerator before feeding it to your pet. However, there are several drawbacks to this arrangement.

The most important one is that unless you are well versed in dog information and nutrition, you will not be able to guarantee that your dog is getting the proper nutrients from your diet. Also, feeding an extra mouth at the table can be expensive and time consuming. It would be far preferable to discover a dog food product made with organic ingredients fit for human consumption. Flint River Ranch manufactures their pet foods under rigorously controlled conditions.

This food is digested easily and contains high degree of important vitamins and minerals. The dog food prepared by Flint River Ranch is of good quality that a person's dog would enjoy eating. Consider Flint River Ranch pet foodstuff if you want to perk up your dog's physical condition, liveliness levels and looks. The owners of Flint River Ranch not only offer superior product quality but also have solutions and give support to pet owners who want the most excellent, healthiest existence for their pets.

Arthritis in dogs can be due to sever different factors, particularly common are injuries, congenital defects and simply getting older, just as in humans. In dogs, even a minor injury can lead to arthritis later in life. The conditions to which some breeds of dogs are predisposed, such as hip dysplasia can also mean a predisposition to developing arthritis as the dog ages. Even dogs who have never suffered an injury in their lives may well develop arthritis as they age.

The most common dog arthritis is osteoarthritis which is a degenerative disease in the joints where the cartilage will need remodeling, and then the new bone causes the arthritis. The dog arthritis symptoms are usually a gradual onset of limpness in the limbs. In other words lameness will result to where the dog finds it difficult to walk. Most often a dog will also be less likely to be active such as walks, playing, or even going up stairs.

The stiffness of the limbs will be more pronounced in the mornings or after long naps, but by working with the dog and encouraging exercise the stiff appearance will disappear through the day. There will also be pain in the joints felt when you touch their limbs or the area suffering. The last sign can be seen in a swelling of the limb around the joint. While it may not be noticeable when you feel the area, you should be able to notice a difference between joints.

An arthritic dog will usually experience pain when their legs are touched near the inflamed joint. The will usually be swelling in this area, but it may not be visible to an unaided eye.

Arthritis medicine is available for dogs who suffer from the condition - this can treat the inflammation. Many dog owners instead opt for more natural methods of treatment for their pet, finding them more helpful in many cases. Glucosamine and MSM are two popular natural dog arthritis treatments (they are also used in humans with arthritis). A lot of experts in the field think that arthritis is best treated by a combination of MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

Depending on the cause of the arthritis in dogs you may need to have medication for your pet. Some types of arthritis can be taken care of with a healthy diet and exercise. Obesity in dogs is one cause of arthritis. By helping the dog to maintain a natural weight for their size and eating a healthy diet you can eliminate the pain of arthritis. The joints may still experience some lasting effects; however this is minimal damage that can be treated with more glucosamine in the diet as well as other herbs.

Another natural treatment for arthritis in dogs will be acupuncture. Acupuncture is known for its healing properties. The method will reduce inflammation based on where the needles are placed and allowing the dog to feel pain free. There are other natural methods of treatment not mentioned in the article, but they do have as much help as these methods.

For some dogs, arthritis remedies must be used in conjunction with a change in the animal's diet to best treat the symptoms of dog arthritis.

Despite the vast number of pet owners in the U.S., a huge percentage of them, believe it or not, do not have any form of pet insurance; these animals are, however, generally considered a part of the family - a family for whom every other member has insurance. We don't hesitate to purchase health insurance for ourselves; should we be forgiven for not caring enough about our pets then?

Contrary to the belief of many, pet insurance is an important monthly expense; pet owners soon learn how costly it is when they require treatment if they haven't taken out any pet insurance. No area is immune for price increases and vets fees are no exception.

So other than rising costs, what are the main reasons you should consider cover for your pets? Anyone who owns a domestic animal needs to be prepared for health problems occasionally; this invariably happens at the worst times, financially.

When you find yourself in this predicament, a decision may have to be made; obviously this is something you would prefer to avoid especially if it is based on cost.

I remember a few years ago when the vet told me that it would cost in the vicinity of $2,500 dollars to save my dog; all I could think about at the time was whether he was worth the cost, that's awful, isn't it? Medical science cannot cure everything and pets are vulnerable too; operations on animals can go wrong sometimes.

The average person does not always consider the costs involved with owning a pet; this is even more relevant if you are experiencing financial difficulties. You may have other pressing financial commitments to attend too so raising further capital can sometimes be a problem.

Ensuring that your pet receives the treatment it requires should be every owners aim; this situation can be avoided if a pet insurance policy is set up. Although pet care insurance costs are rising they are not going to break the bank; the average monthly premium will be less than forty dollars. And there are other options that can be paid yearly and are even less expensive - as little as one hundred dollars a year.

Various pet insurance options are available, including vpi pet insurance among several others. If you have more than one pet, discounts are often available should you decide to place all your pets on the one policy. All pet owners should think carefully about what type of pet health insurance provision they have made for their pet; do not leave it until it is too late!

Discover more about the kinds of pet insurance choices that are available. You may be pleasantly surprised by the variety of reasonably priced pet insurance plans there are.

Arthritis in dogs can be due to several different factors, particularly common are injuries, congenital defects and simply getting older, just as in humans.

There are many forms of arthritis in dogs that can create pain. As in the case of humans, dog arthritis is an inflammation of a joint or joints. Anywhere a dog has a joint they can have arthritis. The cartilage in the joint may be inflamed, but it can also be joint fluid causing the issues within the bones. The main types of arthritis in dogs are osteoarthritis, immune mediated, infective, and idiopathic arthritis.

Arthritis in dogs is usually first manifested as a slow and gradual limpness in the limbs. Lameness will be the result and may reach the point where the dog has a hard time walking. This will lead in most cases to the dog being less active in play, walks and even moving about the home. Stiffness is likely to be more severe in the morning or after a nap but the stiffness is often minimal in the daytime, however.

A dog afflicted with arthritis will tend to feel pain if their limbs are touched near to where the joint is inflamed. There is usually swelling as well, and you may be able to feel this.

There is arthritis medicine for dogs that will help treat the inflammation. However, many dog owners find that natural treatments for arthritis in dogs are more helpful. Glucosamine for dogs and MSM for dogs are two popular natural ingredients for dog arthritis treatments (and arthritis treatments for humans, as well). In fact, many experts are of the view that there are three essential ingredients for an effective natural arthritis treatment - glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM.

Glucosamine is an amino sugar which occurs naturally in the body ? but part of the effects of aging is the loss of the ability to produce enough of this sugar for the body's needs. Glucosamine is not found in any significant food source, but can be obtained from the shells of shellfish. The anti-inflammatory effects it offers are very useful in the treatment of arthritis, in humans and in animals alike.

Depending on the cause of the arthritis in dogs a change to a healthier diet may be all that is needed. Some types of arthritis can be taken care of with a healthy diet and exercise. Obesity in dogs is one cause of arthritis. By helping the dog to maintain a natural weight for their size and eating a healthy diet it is possible to eliminate the pain of arthritis.

However, arthritis remedies of various sorts may be needed along with a change of diet in order to manage the pain and other symptoms of dog arthritis.

Conventional veterinary medicine has limited solutions for treating arthritis in dogs, but there are natural alternatives that can even reverse canine arthritis.

Dogs are very different from cats. A dog will need a lot more of your attention, but when treated right they will love you as much as you love them.

Tip 1 " When you first get your dog, it is a good idea to attach an identification tag to their collar. Many owners do this so if the dog goes missing or runs away the dog can be easily returned.

Tip 2 " Different countries have different laws regarding registering your dog. You will be required to register your dog in most countries. The general practice is to insert a microchip into the shoulder blade of the dog. By doing this, the dog is then registered so if lost will be returned.

Tip 3 " When walking your dog it is always best to keep them on the lead until you get to the park or open space. Some dogs are also classed as dangerous and may need a muzzle.

Tip 4 " Leaving your dog outside for periods of time is generally fine, but make sure that there is plenty of shelter for the dog to hide away from the cold and rain. Make sure you still spend time with the dog outside as these animals are pack animals and like being around others.

Tip 5 - Going to the vet should be a regular thing, animals, like humans need checkups from time to time. It may not be cheap going to the vets, but it is cheaper to have regular checkups than finding out later on that your dog has a serious illness that could have been prevented.

Tip 6 " It is always a good idea to have your dog spayed or neutered. It is been proven that by doing this your dog will lead and longer and healthier life. If you do tend to use your dog a stud, then it is best not to!

Tip 7 - It is important that you provide your dog with a well balanced nutritional diet and make sure that they can easily get to fresh water when they need. This is especially important if you intend to feed your dog only dried food. When it comes to which food to give your dog as there are so many different kinds available it may be advisable to discuss the issue with your vet first. Certainly many owners today prefer to feed dried dog food simply because it is must easier and also contains the right balance of nutrients, minerals and vitamins that dogs need. The other choice you have and if you have the time is actually to prepare fresh meals for your dog which you can then freeze and give to them each day.

Tip 8 - If you have never owned a dog before then it is worth your while enrolling them in some obedience training classes. This way you can learn the most humane and safe ways to control your dog and provides you with a chance to bond much more closely with your animal. Your vet should be able to recommend a class for you, plus there are plenty who advertise in local newspapers and dog magazines. Before joining such classes go along and check them out first and speak with other dog owners who attend them.

Tip 9 " Dogs love to be out in the open, so taking your dog for walks once or twice a day is vital. A trip to park or around the local block is all it needs to keep your dog fit and healthy.

Tip 10 " It is important to look after your dogs appearance, make sure you regularly groom the dog so that their coat is clean and shinny. You can also buy dog teeth brushes to make sure your dog has nice clean teeth.

Above we have given you 10 top ways to keep your dog in shape. If you follow the guidelines you and your dog will soon be on your way to a great partnership.

You should definitely consider using holistic cat food for your cat. Holistic cat food is food that has no artificial ingredients in it.

One of the reasons cats live such a short time is because most cat food produces don't make nutritious food.

The natural life span of cats is actually twenty five to thirty years but the average cat only lives to be seven to ten years old. The nutritional value of most commercial food for felines is equivalent to Twinkies.

Just imagine what would happen to you if you ate nothing but junk food for the next nine years.

When you have food that is free of everything that is not found naturally then you have holistic food. The problem with cat food being holistic is that you never know what is actually in it. The cat food company's only have to claim the ingredients that are put into the food after it reaches their plant.

Basically, the law states that if the meat gets preservatives put into it at a processing plant before it reaches the cat food manufacturers then they can turn around and claim that it is preservative free.

What they consider meat for cat food is another problem. Animals put down at the pound, parts of cows not usable for us, and road kill are all used for the meat and meat byproducts.

When an animal is euthanized at the pound they use poison. Unfortunately for your cat the poison does not cook out when they process the meat. You might unknowingly be poisoning your cat when you feed him.

But what are your options?

Well if you want your four legged family member to live a long and healthy life you might want to consider using a combination of homemade food and safe commercial food. With homemade food you don't have to wonder what's in it because you put it their.

Giving your cat homemade cat food is a great way to make sure your cat is living his life to the fullest. Don't forget about your puppy either. Make sure he is getting homemade puppy food!

Whether you are concerned that your cat may have gotten pregnant or you are thinking about breeding your cat, you will be amazed about the information you need to know to help your cat stay healthy.

While older cats get pregnant easier then younger cats, you will find that the cat pregnancy length, how long a cat is pregnant beginning with mating to actually having her litter, is fairly standered.

For the majority of the time, you will find that a cats pregnancy length is anywhere between 57 to 70 days. The average for most cats though is around 64 days which is about 9 weeks.

There are many signs to keep a look out for when you are trying to figure out if your cat is pregnant. The first and most likely sign you will notice is the absence of your cat going into heat. An unspayed female cat will generally have a cycle she will follow for going into heat and it will be from between ten to fourteen days.

If all of a sudden she is not going into heat any more then there is a great chance that she is pregnant. As for the first physical signs to look for, you will likely notice that her nipples are slightly tender looking, pinker in appearance, or a bit swollen.

You will notice that your cat will start to get hungrier as her body begins to need more resources to nourish her unborn kittens. Along those lines, you cat may start to vomit, however if this happens more then 3 or 4 times you might want to take her to the vet to get her checked out.

In the fifth week of pregnancy, around 35 days, your cats stomach will begin to get swollen from her kittens growing larger. From here, her stomach will continually get bigger until she has her litter.

It is in you and your cats best interest to take some time to learn about the changes to your cat during her pregnancy.

If you are wondering how to tell if your cat is pregnant then chances are good you have a pregnant cat on your hands and you will need to get information on how to care for her. One thing you should consider is giving your cat homemade cat food. Learn how to tell if your cat is pregnant and how to feed your cat homemade cat food.

Even if your cats food has not been recalled that does not necessarily mean that it is safe cat food. The majority of the cat food on the market today might not only be nutritionally void but it may even be dangerous to your cat.

Not only does some of the major brands of cat food contain no nutrition but they may even contain poison. Animals that are put down at the pound by using poison are on of the many meat sources that are found in cat food.

The problem with this is (other then the obvious that your cat is not a cannibal) is that the poison they use to put the animals down does not cook out when they cook the meat.

Anything that is on the dog or cat is also considered fair game to use as a meat source. This includes any metal id tags, flea collars, and even hair and teeth. Another meat source that is used is road kill that is to big to dispose of by digging a hole in the ground.

When processing meat for human consumption a big barrel is placed nearby. Anything that they cannot sell to humans goes into this barrel and it then goes on to be used in cat food. This could include cancerous tissue or even a puss filled cyst.

So that leaves us with dead, dying, or diseased animals for the meat source and the meat by products are even worse. It's no wonder that most cats don't even live half of their natural life expectancy.

The more research I did on cat food the more shocked I became. I did not even want to touch my cats food let alone feed it to him.

There are some safe, nutritious foods out there for cats. To give your cat optimal health and a long life expectancy it is recommended to feed your cat a combination of safe cat food and healthy homemade food.

Get additional information on natural cat food to allow your cat to live his life to the fullest. Find out if natural cat food is the right direction to go for your cat.

If you are like me, you love your pet and want the very best for them. We provide them with wonderful homes, groom them well and feed them with what we think are the best dog food in the market today. Well, the home and grooming is great; but did you know that homemade food may be a better alternative to most of the goods you see on grocery aisles? That?s right; give the best by giving homemade pet food to your beloved pet.

Let?s not make a mistake though - homemade dog food is not the scraps and things you see on the dinner plate when everyone else is done. Seed, stems and large pieces of hard bone should not be handed out to canines for their meals. If your family cuisine are of a healthy and low sodium fare, then it?s alright to give them these leftovers. Other than that, plan and prepare meals specifically for him.

Take care in avoiding certain kinds of food from the canines. We sometimes do not realize that some food in our cupboards and refrigerator are actually harmful to them. A few examples of these are cheese, spicy food, chocolate, grapes and ham. Put instead healthy grains such as oatmeal, rice and buckwheat in their meals. Include chopped up pieces of chicken, beef or liver. Make an effort to ensure that all meals are thoroughly washed and cooked before serving.

Fresh vegetables like carrots, broccoli, seaweed and bananas finely chopped and mashed will make for great additions to the meals you are preparing for him. The main purpose and goal with homemade pet food is to provide your dog with the right and appropriate nutrients that will make him as healthy as possible right? You can also read up on special supplements to fill in the essential vitamins he may not always get. As always, consult your vet first before proceeding with any diet changes.

It is recommended that dog owners do not combine serving homemade and processed meals to their pets. This will oftentimes lead to indigestion. If you have always given him certain pre-packed food but want to try nourishing him with homemade fare, do so slowly. Start by feeding him small bites and light snacks of the healthy nosh in between his regular fare. If the dog seems to have no untoward physical reactions to it, introduce the new food plan gradually. Decrease the amount of regular dog food and increase the volume of fresh food being provided.

The good news is, you don?t have to worry about the bother of preparing your dog?s food every day. What you can do is to take the healthy leftovers from the family dinner table the past few days and convert it to a week?s worth of tasty canine snacks. Change the menu frequently to lower the risk of your pet acquiring food allergies. Also, this will make mealtimes more interesting to the animal as well.

Not only will you be giving your pet a healthier lifestyle; you will also save more money when homemade dog food is prepared and planned well. Use the extra savings to buy doggie toys or other entertaining treats with. Now that?s something to wag your tail for!

In this article, we'll look at why it's important to choose the right animal hospital for your pet and what criteria you may want to base this important decision on. When you have an idea of what to look for and what kind of questions to ask, you'll be able to make an informed decision about your pet's health care.

The first step is to ask family, friends and colleagues where they take their pets for veterinary care. It can be a challenge to find the right animal hospital for your pet; if you live in a rural area, there may not be a lot of choices. In a large city, you may have dozens of different animal hospitals to choose from. In both cases, this can make it difficult to decide on the right hospital. The opinions of other pet owners who have had their pet cared for at a particular animal hospital are the best source of information about the level of care given. Both positive and negative views are good to know; after all, you don't want your companion animal being given anything but the best possible care.

You should make sure that the veterinarian's license (if there is only one licensed vet at the hospital) is valid and ask if the hospital has a registered veterinary technician on staff. You want to be certain that the staff at the hospital has the right skills and has been certified to provide veterinary care in your state.

Next, you should have a meeting with the veterinarian. Other than making sure that their license is valid, you should ask what their experience in veterinary care is and what animals they are skilled in treating. Having many years of experience in the field is a plus - though exactly how much experience you want your vet to have is, of course up to you.

Check to see if their veterinary license is a permanent license or a temporary one. You probably don't want to entrust your beloved pet's well being to a vet with a temporary license - it means that they are still undergoing their training! You should also take this opportunity to ask what the responsibilities of the veterinary technicians who work at the hospital are, since it's important to know exactly who is providing your pet with health care services and how experienced they are.

Fourthly, when you first visit the animal hospital ask to see the veterinarian's services beyond routine maintenance make these mental observations and ask yourself these questions: do they have an Urgent Care? (If so, what are the hours?) Do they perform surgeries and complicated interventions? Do they offer educational services such as puppy classes and trainings? Do they provide nutritional services and dietary supplementation and information for your pet's elderly care needs? Do they have a website? What does it say about them and their staff? Do not assume that just because an animal hospital states in it's name that it's an ?animal hospital' that they are legitimate or top notch or comprehensive for pet health care needs. This is especially important if you are at the animal hospital for an emergency medical procedure. If you don't have someone to recommend a good animal hospital to you, you can ultimately come to a discussion by taking a tour of the facilities.

Getting a quick tour after your Vet interview/meeting is a good idea. Knowing what to look for in an animal hospital's examinations room and surgery area is important and a simple observation can say a lot, start with how clean are these two areas: work surfaces and examination rooms. For example, vet work surfaces should be clean and sterile (think hospital). It is okay to take a quick peek directly underneath the edges of tables without offending anyone. Also important, the floor should be free of pet hair and any debris. Sanitary conditions are just as important for your pet as for you during medical procedures; thus are the examination room and surgical areas organized? Organization is key while taking care of the health of a pet, especially in an emergency. How does the animal hospital smell? This can say a lot more than what you see, check out operating rooms and examining rooms beyond the waiting room--it can be an indicator because this is where the actual medical care will take place-a bad odor, beyond the usual pet smell, is a sign that something is not right (such as a mishandling of animal bodily fluids can crate an unhealthy environment for both you and your pet).

The above tips are all good ways to help you get the information you need to make an informed decision about the right animal hospital for your pet. If you can, get a referral from a family member of acquaintance. You need to make sure that the veterinarian and other staff are properly licensed, find out what work is performed by the hospital's staff and of course, you should tour the facility and interview the veterinarian in order to make the right decision and choose the best animal hospital near you to provide your pet with the excellent care they deserve.

Blend the mixture well and scoop into bite sized treats onto cookie sheets. Bake them for 20 minutes in 350?F and you have yourself the keys to Fido?s heart.

Anyone up for delectable oatmeal chews? Take ? cup of whole wheat flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 3 cups oatmeal, 2 Tbsp honey and mix it all together. Fold in 2 egg yolks and 1 cup of cold water to bind it all together. Ensure the smooth consistency of the batter. Bake this for 15 minutes in a 350?F temperature. Once these chews are sufficiently cooled; cut into bite size pieces for your dog?s snacking pleasure.

For older dogs with a less than sturdy set of teeth, you can serve them these soft cookies as snacks. In a bowl, mix ? cup dry milk powder, ? cup wheat germ and 2 ? oz jars of flavored baby food thoroughly. Roll into coin sized mounds and bake in a pre heated oven for 15 minutes at 350?F. Now you are armed with several mouth watering doggie treats?there is no excuse not to have a loving and happy pet waiting to welcome you home.

On the whole though, young hamster owners need to be monitored to ensure that the pet is properly taken care of and that important worries are addressed. In order to provide a safe environment for your baby ferret, he will need a home of his own. Ferrets like lots of space, so it's important to provide a spacious cage. You should also take care to line the cage with a non-porous material to make cleaning a breeze.

A hard material such as linoleum is great because of its ease in cleanup. You want to make sure that the baby ferret's toes won't get trapped in the grill of the cage, and linoleum will prevent that. The cage will need to be cleaned often, because ferrets have sweat glands with a distinctive odor.

If the linen for sleeping is not cleaned at least once a week, it may become too smelly for the owner. Even if the ferret is given a bath, the stink would be back on its fur if the bedding is not washed thoroughly.

Baby ferrets can be trained very early on to use a litter box. You want to litter train them as soon as possible to avoid any waste management problems. It's a pretty simple process of putting litter boxes in areas that both the ferret and the owner will find convenient.

Once they are introduced in a specific spot, it should be permanent. If the owner would keep on moving the litter box, the ferret might have a hard time remembering where to go when they need to.

Introducing baby ferrets to their litter boxes is as simple as putting a small amount of waste in the litter box. After that, their instincts would tell them of what to do. It would also be ideal if the litter box is not completely cleaned or the ferret would be confused.

Ferrets are so much fun because they just love to play. Baby ferrets need a lot of regular exercise, so you should take them out of their cage to play at least twice a day, more whenever you're able. There are lots of ferret toys that you can buy to amuse them.

Always carefully examine the toys that you provide to your ferret. You should stay away from toys that are made out of materials such as rubber, fabric or latex. Because ferrets like to chew on their toys, you wouldn't want your ferret accidentally eating a piece of latex.

Ferrets just love to hide, and putting tunnels both inside and outside of the cage would stimulate and excite your ferret. There are also quite a few ferret toys that make sounds. Baby ferrets are drawn to toys that make a noise of some type. You might also want to invest in a harness and leash so that you can take your ferret for a walk.

Cats can contract a urinary infection much more frequently than their owners would like to imagine. Most often, vets will conclude that the condition is idiopathic in nature, which is simply another way of saying they have no idea what might have caused it. As a result, a common symptom of a cat's urinary tract infection, such as urinating outside the litter box, is generally (and erroneously) assigned to behavioral causes, like stress.

However, it's far more likely that a cat's urinary tract infection is due to physical rather than behavioral problems. The condition is one among several urinary problems, including an obstruction in the urinary passage and inflammation of the bladder, known as Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD).

This is a very unpleasant and painful situation for the cat, as it will strain to urinate but cannot do so. If you've ever suffered from a UTI of your own, you'll have some idea of what your poor kitty is going through. You can best help if you become familiar with the reasons behind the condition, and learn and follow some basic rules of care for your afflicted feline.

As a cat owner, you've probably noticed that your kitty usually does not spend a lot of time at the water bowl. This infrequent consumption of water is natural behavior for cats. They originated in arid, desert areas, and over time and through evolutionary changes learned to derive the necessary liquids to sustaining life from their food. The animals they preyed upon provided most of the fluids cats needed to maintain good health. There was little need to drink water from a separate source, and that instinct is still in operation today. Unfortunately, this reluctance to take in water is a major factor in the increased prevalence of cat's urinary infections.

Your vet, of course, can determine a specific treatment for your cat's urinary infection based upon a review of the results of a urinalysis, among other avenues of investigation, but you can help keep your cat's urinary tract in tip-top health, as well as cut down on vet bills, by putting into practice some proven methods of prevention.

1. water is the most important thing.

Using clean, hot water, wash your cat's water bowl - daily. If you use soap, make certain the bowl is thoroughly rinsed to prevent any harm as a result of the chemicals in the detergent.

Make finding water easy for your cat. Put a number of water bowls around the house, and make them big enough that your cat can drink from them without their whiskers touching the sides.

If you are providing your cat with dry cat food, mix in a little water to moisten it. To make it even more attractive, try adding something tasty, such as chicken broth.

If you can afford it, invest in a free flowing water drinking fountain. Cats love moving water and their curiosity may encourage them to imbibe.

2. Do not serve your cat food that is high in magnesium; i.e., oily fish, heart, pork, or beef.

3. Select foods that are natural, rather than prescription diets. Buy organic when possible. consult your vet to be certain the food you give your cat will create the proper pH level in their urine.

4. Adding a tablespoon of vinegar to the water once a day will keep the urine pH a little acidic, and helps prevent the formation of bladder stones. Bladder stones can often lead to your cat's getting urinary infections.

When you follow these basic rules of health maintenance, you have done a great deal to ensure your cat lives a long, happy, and healthy life, untroubled by feline urinary tract infections.

As a means of sustaining the health of your cat's urinary tract, food is the easiest and best means of avoiding medical intervention. But just like humans, cats have foods that will do them harm, often very great harm, and it is a good idea to know what the detrimental foods are as well as learn those that are helpful.

Often when there is a dog present in the home, cats will want to eat the food that is meant for them. But while dog food is perfectly adequate to meet the nutritional needs of canines, it is lacking in many essentials for optimum cat health, like sufficient taurine and protein. If your cat continues to eat this food, the result will be a sick and undernourished kitty.

Dogs have nothing on cats when it comes to begging for scraps. It's tempting to let your kitty have a taste of whatever you're eating, but just like with dog food, the incorrect balance of nutrients will guarantee that your cat isn't getting what it needs to maintain optimal health.

Just as chocolate is toxic to dogs, the same applies to cats and you should ensure that you never give your cat chocolate to eat otherwise it could become very ill and even die.

Don't give your cat bones as they can splinter and get caught in their throat and intestinal track. This can cause a lot of damage or serious injury.

It is well worth investing your money in your cat's health by giving it a recommended and nutritionally balanced diet that will have the right proportions of protein and other vitamins and minerals that are required for it to stay healthy.

Not only does your cat's urinary tract food choices play a part in maintaining their urinary health, water is a significant factor as well. If your cat predominantly eats dry food, it is vital that the lost moisture be replaced by drinking water. Be certain you cat has access to a supply of fresh water at all times.

4. Of course the other thing that is important when training dogs is that you work with their natural drives and instincts. This will again make them trust and respect you more.

There are many training tips, tricks and techniques for getting your dog to obey your commands. Below we take a look at some of the most important.

Rule 1. When your dog does as you ask, you should praise and reward them for doing so. However, if they do not, then you need to correct them immediately as this will help them to understand where they have gone wrong. Unfortunately a dogs concentration span is not that long and if you fail to correct any problems immediately then they will simply carry on.

Rule 2. A dogs concentration level is not a high as a humans so do not expect your dog to know what you are teaching them straightaway. It is only through repeating the commands time and time again they will start to learn. You also need to believe in the training you are giving your dog and remain focused on achieving your goals with them.

Rule 3. Make sure you provide feedback whatever the outcome when teaching your dog new commands, this will let the dog no whats acceptable and what is not.

Rule 4. Be realistic when teaching new obedience skills not all dogs are the same, some are going to take longer to pick up the commands. What you should never do is punish your dog if they are wrong in the initial stages.

Rule 5. As well as making sure that each training session does not drag on, make sure that it is fun and sharp. This will help them understand what is required from you.

Rule 6. Start off slow when teaching you dog new commands, because this is all new to them it will take time. Teach your dog new trick and techniques one at a time, this will save confusion and able the dog to learn faster.

Rule 7. Its important that you incorporate the obedience training into the dogs everyday life and not just in training sessions. This will allow your dog to learn at a faster rate, as an example " when feeding your dog make them sit and wait before you give them their food.

Rule 8. Correcting your dog should only be done if they have done wrong. Never correct or punish a dog that is not out of line, if you do this will cause confusion and lack of respect for you.

Rule 9. Always treat your dog with a reward every time they get a command correct, this will please the dog and let them know that they have done the right thing, making them aware for the next time.

Rule 10. If you do find it difficult teaching your dog obedience, then there are plenty of dog training classes all over the UK, attending these once a week will pay dividends. Have a look for the nearest class in your area!

Hamsters are great pets, especially for kids. A Hamster is a pet that is really easy to look after, they are quite happy to be with people and most of them are good for handling. They are as well fun to keep and do not need a lot looking after like many other animals do. But before you purchase one it is better to know if it is the right pet for you.

Even if hamsters are ideal for children, for people living in small houses and for those individuals who do not have a lot of time for pets, caring for hamsters still requires commitment on you behalf. Otherwise, the pet may end up abandoned in a rescue home.

To evaluate whether a hamster is good for you as a caged pet, here are several things that you must consider:

Hamster species are not all the same and come in quite a few varieties. And every variety has a different temperament, behaviour, characteristics, appearance and suitability as your pet. Some hamsters are aggressive and others are timid. Some of them though seem to have been made suitable for pets. There is also a species of hamster that like the company of hamsters of the same breed, own gender and own age. Several of them, nevertheless, tend to become aggressive towards other hamsters as they get older, whether of their own breed or not; therefore requiring them to be kept apart from the rest.

Age of the would be owner- Depending on the age of the child a hamster should work well with them. On the whole though, young hamster owners need to be supervised to assure that the pet is correctly taken care of and that important concerns are addressed. Several species can get easily irritated when handled in not the right manner and this may cause them to nip. To stop this happening, young owners should be advised on a regular basis with regard to their care of their pets. Among adult owners however, particularly for those who are busy during the day, hamsters make really good pets as they are happy to wait until evening for activities with the owners.

Availability of space- Hamsters, in general, are suitable for small spaces. This is why they are popular among apartment renters and people who live in small houses. But it should be noted that there are some species of hamsters such as the Chinese hamster that need large cages to satisfy their need to exercise.

Individual preference- The hamster species variations range from colour to behavior. Each breed is unique, consequently it is in the owners best interest to know his own preference when it comes to the type of pet they will keep.

Your cage- It is always advisable to buy a large cage. Why? Well the larger the cage, the happier your hamster will be and a happy pet is a healthy one.

We humans have so many different ideas and beliefs when it comes to animal training. There are the old school methods, which recognises that us humans are far better than animals. This way can be aggressive as the animal must do as they are told.

Then we have the I love my animal so much that it does not matter what they do, even when the animal is showing very disturbing behaviour.

Of courses there are many stages between the two, so what is the right balance? Where can we find the place where both the animal and the human are happy and well behaved?

So to get a better understanding lets look at these two extremes and what is happening on an emotional level.

This hard approach has the animal responding through a fear aspect. They will do what is being asked in the fear of the consequence of not doing it. You can clearly see this in the repressed overly submissive behaviour.

When we train horses in this way they are not relaxed and their movement is jumpy, there minds are far too busy thinking of what might go wrong to be able to full concentrate on what is being asked.

Now lets look at the opposite, here is an animal with way too much responsibility. The person is not teaching the animal and this produces a lack of confidence. Dogs with no guidance can become fearful and even over protective. In extreme cases they resort to aggression because they literally don't know any other way forward.

This animal is also racing in their minds producing too much emotion to find their own confidence.

I would like to show you a way of finding the right balance! Have a look at the video below. This is showing clearly that we can help an animal to be peaceful and this in turn creates the one true element needed in a good relationship, trust.

The special balance needed between an animal and a human is developed through trust. Then the dominant ways are completely pointless as there is a far stronger relationship. This moves the focus from telling the animal to truly teaching the animal.

When you are trust worthy in the eyes of your animal then they naturally listen to you for guidance and are ready to learn.

There is a big shift in animal training, it is becoming increasingly obvious that there are better ways that are so much more rewarding. to make this happen it is not the animal who need to change, it is us!

If you see your cat slurping water from the bathroom sink or out of the toilet, don't get angry with her. She simply is showing you how much she appreciates fresh, cool water. Perhaps you are the naughty one, not providing enough fresh water for her on a daily basis. Your cat's nutrition and cat water availability have a key role in her general health.

You want to be sure your cat's nutritional requirements are met and cat water is often left out of this equation. You check the cat food labels, making sure meat protein is the first thing on the list - not all corn or soy meal. But are you as concerned with how much water your cat drinks each day?

To be sure, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and taurine are vital to your cat's health, but don't be satisfied that you've provided her a sound nutritional framework with just cat food. The one ingredient that doesn't have to be listed in the ingredients label is the most important one of all. Water.

Think about it. You can live for years with insufficient calcium in your diet before showing any clinical signs of calcium deficiency. Try going without water for a few days and you are in big trouble.

Your Cat's Health and Cat Water Intake

Your cat's body can't process all those vitamins and amino acids just by swallowing a cup of cat chow. Water acts as a solvent and help dissolve these chemicals in order for your cat to benefit. Nutrients can't be digested and brought into the cells...Waste can't get transported out of the body...Your cat's temperature can't be controlled because the heat his body generates isn't dissipated...His organs start to fail.

When your cat doesn't drink enough water his body attempts to conserve what fluids it has in it already. He doesn't urinate or eliminate stool. His body is dying while trying to conserve his water resources.

Feline urinary tract problems, cat bladder stones and kidney problems are often linked to poor water intake. So nutrition and cat water are very much linked together.

How Much Water?

The domesticated cat lineage goes way back and originate in the African desert. Their body adapted to the dry, arid climate. That doesn't mean a cat needs less water than a dog. Individual water requirements depend on factors like: Activity level, age, environmental conditions and air temperature.

The rule of thumb is to estimate one milliliter of water for every food calorie consumed. For an adult cat, this means about 250 - 350 ml each day or 9 - 12 fluid ounces.

Depending on your cats diet, he may get a portion of this daily requirement from canned cat food. Canned cat food typically contains 78% water. A 6 ounce can of cat food might provide 130 ml of water. So if you cat eats canned cat food, he requires less supplemental water. However, dry food contains much less water so your cat's water intake should be more.

Brazilian mastiffs are large dogs, male and female both. The males stand upwards of thirty inches at the shoulder and weigh more than 100 pounds, while the females are usually just a few inches shorter and tend to top out at 90 pounds. They have soft, short fur and their necks are very thick. They resemble bloodhounds in the face and their coat color comes in various hues and might range through yellow, brindle, reddish tan, and black. They are quite a lovely dog to look at!

The Brazilian mastiff was bred to run fast and to have a bone structure that could support an attack if need be. Their courage is known to be intense, and they are also known to be an alert dog. While they can be quite savage and hostile to strangers, they are considered to be very loving with children.

There are several qualities of the Brazilian Mastiff. Well be looking at both of the breeds, you see the hunting instinct from the Bloodhound. Add that with the guarding instinct of the Mastiff. There are well known for looking out for cattle. They seem to be a great well rounded dog. They were also trained to attack and then waiting on their master. Some were able to even keep wild jaguars away from cattle.

Another one of their unique tasks were to track down slaves that had run away. The word 'Fila' means 'to hold' in Portuguese. Along with their great hunting and holding skills, the Brazilian Mastiff can even run extremely fast and are able to gallop to the fullest.

Remember that when you are dealing with this dog that it is never so keen on strangers. They are suspicious of people that they do not know, and though this might be a good thing if they are guard dogs, it might be as good if you have visitors. In many cases, they will undergo character testing to see whether they can be trusted to only attack when they are instructed to. It is important to keep this mind when you are thinking about purchasing a Brazilian mastiff. During dog shows, they maintain this aloof and wary quality and judges are often instructed not to touch the dog.

Despite the fact the breed is fairly hostile to strangers, also keep in mind that the Brazilian mastiff is quite warm and loving towards his own family. The breed, when well trained, shows an impressive loyalty to the home and the master of the house. Do keep in mind that they can be quite fierce strangers.

If you are thinking about adopting a Brazilian mastiff puppy, look for a good breeder. Consider going to the shows and going to the homes of private breeders. Do not stop at looking at just one breeder. Ask every question that you think of and see whether the breeder is someone who really feels for their dogs. Remember that they should be able to answer any questions that you throw out at them. Remember that you can always check out pictures of the breed online as well.

This dog is quite adorable, with its rectangular body, its droopy hound dog ears and its flabby lips. Remember that any dog that you do not know well should be regarded with caution and this breed is no exception. Though they have a reputation for being fierce, they are also known to be wonderfully gentle with their own families and particularly with children.

The American Bandogge Mastiff is one of the newer breeds. It's been around for less than 50 years but has already managed to make a lot of friends. These dogs were first bred by veterinarian John Swinford, who bred an American pit bull terrier with a Neapolitan mastiff; and the rest is history in the making.

Swinfords efforts were soon followed by breeder Joe Lucero and the breed has been gaining in popularity ever since. Other than the pit bull/Neapolitan mastiff mix, there are also Bandogges which are pit bull/English mastiff crosses. As with any other crossbred dog, the animals whose parents are genuine purebreds of their respective breeds are the healthiest, most attractive and have the best temperaments. Of course, the Bandogge Mastiff is definitely a handsome dog itself. These dogs are very well muscled, something they get from the pit bull side of the family. Like pit bulls, brindled coats are the general rule with black being the most common. However, you'll also see tawny, red and even blue show up in their coats.

With their quiet nature, they also tend to have separation anxiety. They get lonely quickly and do not like for their owners to be out of their sight. Despite the lack of barking at intruders as they come about, these gentle giants will howl when their owners are absent. Just like most dogs, if they are raised from a puppy around other animals, even kittens, they can get along with them just fine, despite their large build.

Bandogges are very friendly and sociable, meaning that they tend to get lonely easily when their human family isn't around and are known to need some coaxing to get over their separation anxiety. These imposing but loving and loveable animals may not do a lot of barking, but they might howl when they miss you. Like any other dog, they can get along with other dogs, cats or any animals if they're introduced while young.

Like other large breeds, a Bandogge likes to get plenty of exercise and has lots of energy for running and playtime and is always game for a good long walk. You'll want to give them a couple of daily walks and any other outdoor activity time you can spare. These loveable animals form close bonds with your family and any other pets in the household quickly and are extremely loyal. Their friendly, playful nature and calm temperaments make these gentle giants one of the very best breeds for families with children too! American Bandogge Mastiffs can sometimes have slightly dry skin, but they are an all around low maintenance pet where grooming is concerned. Their short coats are easy to brush and keep looking their best.

Gentle, playful, intelligent and loyal; a true member of the family who has the physicality to protect your family and your home, but so loving that they'll cry when you're away; a great pet for kids which they'll watch over as if they were their own pups. The American Bandogge Mastiff is all of these things and more. They're a new breed but one which is certain to win you over. If you're looking for a bigger dog that has a lot of love to give, then meet the Bandogge; mans new best friend!

Testing of water in a fresh water aquarium involves two steps, the first is when you first start an aquarium and the second stage is when the tank has already been established and you have fish in them.

Fish thrive or die, depending on the water quality, so it is imperative for their health that you understand the sort of conditions and the quality of water that your fish need to live healthily. This is not uniform for all fishes, so a bit of study is necessary.

Procedure for a new fish tank:

You first need to establish that the nitrogen cycle has taken place. This is important because after this cycle has occurred it is safe to add fish. Fish waste and undigested food lead to an ammonia spike. This is the first stage of the nitrogen cycle and you can detect this by an Ammonia test. After this friendly bacteria called Nirosomonas start to breed, causing a nitrate spike. This is the second stage of the nitrogen cycle.

The third stage occurs when nitrospira bacteria breed converting the dangerous nitrite into less harmful nitrates. Once this occurs it is safe to add fish. Add the fish gradually, testing the water every couple of days, partially changing the water if there is too much ammonia or nitrite in it. This cycle takes place over a few weeks so it is important to keep testing the water so that you know which stage of the cycle you are on.

There are three test kits that are a must for any fish tank owner, to monitor the nitrogen cycle, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate testing kits. You also need a pH testing kit to check the water for acidity. This is important because if there is too much of a difference in the acidity level of the tank they lived in before you bought them, they may die of stress or shock.

Once your tank is established you do not need to keep on testing all the time. However, you still need to check the water for nitrates. Even though nitrates are not as harmful as the nitrites and ammonia, too much nitrate can also be detrimental to the health of your fish. To avoid any kind of problems, make it your habit to check the water quality and carry out regular water changes so that your fish are healthy and active. You can control the nitrate build up by adding plants and nitrate eating fish to your tank and monitoring the quality of water.

A grown up dog in a house that has not been to in any kind of puppy house training, would spell disaster for the owner of the dogs. That it is only logical to train a dog while it is still young in order for future pet related problems to be avoided. Problems that include no less than expensive furniture and designer shoes ruined, torn, and dirtied. If you love your dog and also love to keep the things I have mentioned intact, then you should agree that such is a necessary step.

Before you try to think of negative thoughts on how difficult such a task could be, know that this bridge has been crossed a lot of times before, meaning that tons of training kits and guides are available at your disposal. Just keep in mind that not all of the tips and tutorials they give will work for a hundred percent since dogs have different personalities and levels of tendencies depending on a lot of factors. But just keep in mind that you can choose not to be alone in raising up your puppy.

A way to get started with the puppy house training is to put the puppy into a box to take naps in. You should make sure that the puppy sleeps in that box for the first couple of weeks, guide it to do so. You will observe that the cute little thing would always want to get out of the box first before doing any of nature's calls if it could be helped. This is so because dogs do not want to dirty the place where they sleep on. So if you could just let the dog realized this in relation to the house, then you would not have to deal with this type of problem later as you live with your dog.

Regardless of which guide you want to teach your canine friend. Do not forget that one of the strongest point of getting a dog to do just the right things is so that you will experienced what you wanted to experience from adopting or buying that cute pup in the first place: good companionship. Thus beginning with as well founded puppy house training should be the choice for dog lovers.

Having a puppy for a pet is not having a regular thing. Simple care begins when you make sure that he is feed properly, given regular bath and certainly provided with puppy house training. It takes a wonderful experience to be able to share with him the tricks that he just learned and that you need not worry about a thing. Yes, he is disciplined and thanks to the training you provided him.

Are you loving your dog only until he plants another bomb in your immaculate living room carpet? It seems that your home can benefit greatly from some potty training dogs tips. Here are some simple techniques that will keep you and your pet's love fest undisturbed in a few short weeks.

Hearing the obligatory chores in house training dogs is enough to make the best of us cringe. Some don't even bother to make an effort. As a result, many dogs have never learned the basics on toilet training. It may be easier to teach puppies good habits, but adult dogs can still learn to do their business outside properly.

It will be helpful to know that it is easier to train older canines to do than to don't. What this means is that if he is not taught how to go out to eliminate; you will find it almost impossible to undo this learned behavior. You will need to teach him a new habit. In this scenario, it is going outdoors to do his business.

Find a suitable spot outside your house to use for his toilet needs. Bring him out for a walk fifteen minutes after he finishes eating. Walk around the designated spot saying 'go potty' or 'get pooping' whatever word or phrase you want him to associate with the activity. Repeat it until he finally does and praise him profusely right after. This will let him know that this particular code word is a signal to eliminate. Do this for a few weeks using the same pattern you have started out with. In house training dogs, patience and consistency are fundamental.

When accidents do happen in the midst of your training plan, don't throw in the towel just yet. Potty training sometimes takes a while. If you see the poop but not the dog, do not look for the culprit and start yelling. He will not understand why you are getting mad. If you catch him in the middle of the crime, startle him and bring him quickly outside to finish. Reward him with a treat and praises right after. Be extra attentive to your pet post meal to avoid future accidents.

When the accidents do happen inside your home, make sure you clean up the mess thoroughly with a deodorizing antibacterial solution immediately. This will get rid of stains and more importantly, any smell it will leave behind. The principle in potty training dogs is that they will return to their spot to do it again and they will find it by sniffing the place out. Make the canine's cage as small as comfortably small as possible to avoid more accidents to occur indoors.

Do not bring food and water to your pet two hours before sleeping or else you might find yourself sleepily leading him out at night for toilet breaks. Take him out to walk early morning or right after he finishes nap time. When you have successfully accomplished training him to go potty outdoors, ensure that going outside is accessible and convenient for him. An open back door will encourage him to continue his newly found talent in discharging outside.

Potty training dogs is every responsible pet owner's priority. This will keep your dog disciplined and mentally stimulated- a good preparation for other obedience tasks. More than that, your home will welcome the change and thank you for it.

The aerosol dog repellent can be in canister sprays while the electronic type is used to emit high sounding frequency. The aerosol type and the electronic gadgets are very useful as resisting agents against chasing or attacking canines. This electronic device is effective for training canines.

The electronic watch dog can operate simply as when a dog is approaching within 20 feet, it barks like an enormous irate canine. This special device is an alarming device that can scare this four-legged animal. It is a product of mans ingenuity applying the microwave technology.

Generally, dogs have poor visions particularly at night but their ears are quite sensitive. If you are holding the device, they can mistake you as a huge creature much bigger than them. The closer they get to you the more horrifying is the bark coming out of the gadget.

The next gadget has an effective range of up to 15 feet away from you. This is the dog chaser which is also an effective tool for dog trainings. The device gives out an annoying high-frequency sound audible only the ears of this animal. The irking noise is too much for their sensitive sense of hearing that makes the creature run away from you. This is another product of the advancement of science employing ultrasonic technology.

Typically, canines are intelligent creatures. They can be easily trained by means of association. The spray is the most common dog repellent and very affordable that is why it is very popular. It has an effective range of at least 5 feet. It emits a discomforting smell that is very repugnant to the nose of this animal. Most often they equate discomfort and unpleasant smell to pain like a dog repellent.

These products available in the commercial markets come in packaging styles that can suit to any users needs and adapt to any personal taste of the buyer. These animal-resisting products are aerosols which can be fired at an effective range of five feet to thirty five feet away from you. The purpose is to immobilize the attacker whether humans or animals.

The firing distance carefully calculated based on the animals speed to run and attack. The animal-attacking speed is often faster than humans. Thus the firing distance is designed to be far enough away from you to deter the attacker to get near you. It is generally a safe distance. These animal repellents are formulated specifically for different types of attackers.

These come in several models with corresponding distinct different features to suit to your specific needs. They also come in different sizes and colors with corresponding accessories of your choice. There are likewise refills available for some product models.

Animals have rights too and they must be protected as well since they cannot express the way humans do.

For more information, you can visit web sites which can readily address your needs and concerns about these products. The sizes of the canisters and particular models have corresponding firing distances. These are designed and formulated relative to the animals sizes.
