A lot of people have the wrong conception when it comes to dog crates. They may believe that crates are a punishment for dogs, and therefore they won't use them, or they use them in the wrong way. Don't immediately take him out if he starts to whine but instead talk to him and put your fingers through the door and wait for him to settle down.

Even though it may take some time, crate training is great for your Golden. When you have family over, or you need to leave, or if your dog has a medical condition like diarrhea, then you can use the crate. Your Golden should catch on to the crate quickly if you're patient and never use it for punishment.
