It is wise to determine what kind of mange your pet has; demodectic mange or sarcoptic mange before you decide on a mange treatment. Another factor when deciding on a mange treatment depends on how severe your pets mange symptoms are. Beware... There are many mange home remedies on the internet, there are also traditional very toxic mange dips and oral medications such as ivermectin and there are also very effective topical non toxic mange treatments.

Finding a good Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange and Sarcoptic Mange is basically a two step process. You treat the infection if it is present and your treatment should kill the mange mites that are causing your pet to itch and tear its skin. This can be a pretty daunting task if you don't know how to accomplish this task easily and quickly.

Lets talk about a Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange. Demodectic mange, sometimes also called Demo or Demodex mange most often includes infection. You can usually tell if your dog or cat has infection by just smelling your pet. If it has a septic smell, then it is most likely that your pet has infection. The skin is usually red and perhaps even raw.

You want to get control of the infection right away. You can most likely do that by using non toxic topical products currently on the market by people who specialize in mange treatments. Your pets immune system can't fight the infection at this point and it needs help by using non toxic products such as medicated body washes made of benzalchonium chloride. Beware of toxic products or mange treatments that is so strong, it will burn your pets already inflammed skin! You want to stop the infection as quickly as possible and not cause more skin problems. If the infection is bad enough, the infection could get into your pets blood stream and your pet would then have to be treated orally with antibiotics.

The trick to a good and effective mange treatment is finding one that is a non toxic topical product. You don't have to make your pet sicker by applying toxic dips or giving him oral toxic medications such as ivermectin. Why treat the entire pet when you only have to treat him topically? Why bring his immune system down? These toxic dips and oral products reduces your pets immune system even more and it can't fight bacl. Your pets immune system is usually shot by this time and it is already compromised; that's why it can't fight back the mites. So why make it worse?

Sarcoptic Mange does not require a lengthy Mange Treatment and it can usually be corrected within a couple of weeks. The Sarcoptic mites burrow themselves just below the top layer of the skin and they are much easier to reach. In many cases, infection is not present and the dogs immune system is not compromised. There is no need to use harsh toxic dips or oral medications as a Sarcoptic Mange Treatment.

You normally want to continue The Mange treatment several weeks after symptoms stop, the skin has healed and/or hair has started to grow back. It is also recommended that you give your pet vitamins to boost its immune system; this way he will be stronger to fight a future mange infestation.

Pets with mange symptoms are required to be isolated away from other pets to avoid cross contamination. Wash your pets bedding daily and keep your pet out of your own bed. Thoroughly clean a good Disinfectant Spray. Do not reintroduce the bedding, toys or any other items that the pet usually uses until the infestation has been contained and treated. If your pet gets reinfested with mange mites or the pet is not treated, the bed cleaning will have to be repeated again and again until the pet is mange-free.

Mange is a skin condition that includes scabies, red mange, ear mite infections and cheyletiella which is caused by mites in mostly dogs and cats. The veterinarian can offer the right advice and provide the correct Mange Medicine for your pet.

Some of the more severe manifestations of Mange, Sacoptic Mites, Demodex Mites and Ear Mites, need to be closely checked by a veterinarian otherwise your pet may face severe health issues. Although these cases are the most severe, there are many other types of Mites that can be dangerous to not only dogs and cats but livestock as well.

One of the first symptoms that a dog with Scabies will present is a crusting of the skin on the ear. Intense irritation can be caused by the Notoedres Mite and Sarcoptic Mange can also affect humans. With all of the intense itching it is possible for the mites get transferred to humans and cause them to itch as well, however, the symptoms will disappear in a couple of weeks if the pet is disinfected.

It is important to treat these conditions as quickly as possible, as the discomfort can become quite severe. Seepage, scabs or boils may begin to appear as well as balding skin patches. If that happens, the vet will likely have to do a biopsy to check for other types of infections that may have developed.

The vet will need to give the pet periodic injections of Ivermectin for a up to four weeks. Bath your pet with dandruff shampoos and dab the affected area with insecticides recommended by the pet. The steroid cortisone and antibiotic creams would relieve the redness and itching.

The Demodex variation of the infection is not contagious, but you still want to get it checked out and treated as quickly as possible, because you run the risk of causing a secondary infection in your pet if you don't. With Demodex, your pet will experience the same itching, irritation and discomfort as with the other types of Mange, so of course you want to relieve your pet from that in the fastest time.

Not all dogs and cats are affected by this mite but some of them are severely affected and this is caused by hormonal changes, suppressed immunity system or a genetic disorder. This disorder is seen mostly in pups going through hormonal changes and most animals recover from it without treatment.

Baths are excellent for treating and soothing a pet who is afflicted with Mange. You should also use any tonics or vitamins that you get recommendations about from your veterinarian. There are several vitamin choices that will help boost your pet's immune system and make him less likely to suffer for too long.

Ear mites cause intense itching and discharge in the ear in dogs and cats. Cats are more sensitive to chemicals hence it's important to consult the vet in how to safely treat the feline.

Homeopathic treatments are a popular choice for many pet owners and they can be a good choice for pets that have sensitivity to certain medications. But, again, the first course of action is to talk to your vet. Of course the most important thing is the proper care, nutrition and cleansing of your pet to help prevent him from getting any of the varieties of Mange ever again.

If your dog has mange and needs a remedy or medicine to help, you should find a mange spray. There are tons of mange medicine that you can find on the Net that could help.

The most common cat health problems could have your cat in his or her death bed. As you know, when your feline friend has a problem, you need to get them to a vet as fast as you can. If you want to be considered a good pet owner, you should find the best vet that is recommended for the health problem your cat is having. There are many problems that you can run into when you have a cat and in this article, you will know more about the bad health problems your feline can have.

The first problem you need to handle when you get your cat is to get them their shots and spayed or neutered in order to stop some of the problems that will be talked about in this article. You will find that cats are very delicate animals and using the best products will ensure they get the healthy body they need. The foods you buy them will also play a role in helping them live a long healthy life.

For those cat owners that don't know what types of food to purchase, they will need to give their cats the right type of diet. This will reduce the number of health problems they can have later in their life. The other thing to make sure of is that they do not eat human food. Human food can increase their chances of getting parasites from food that have been in the trash or even food that have been out for a few hours.

The health of your cat will be your responsibility. This means that you will need to know about what problems they can get. Many diseases and parasites can infect your cat. So you must find the proper medications to keep him or her healthy.

What do I mean by medicine? I mean prevention for heartworms. Heartworms eat at the heart which can shorten the life of your cat. Heartworms can be fatal within several years. There are many products you can find that will help fight and protect against heartworms. They can help stop the worms from getting into the heart. The medicine that's right for your cat is the medicine that is recommended by a reliable veterinarian. The vet can give you the right ideas such as when to adminster the heartworm prevention and how much to give.

There are actually some foods that can result in heartworms. So if you want your cat to avoid heartworms, you need to make sure they eat the right foods. Prevention can also help here. Watch your feline outside and clean out the litter box each night. You should visit the vet on a regular basis.

Are hairballs a problem for your feline? If your cat has problems with hairballs, you may be able to help her by purchasing the correct foods. There are plenty of foods available in a pet store that can combat hairballs and reduce the amount of hairballs they have to put up with.

Tick and flea prevention should be set up for your feline when you get her. Your pet's health can be negatively affected by parasites such as fleas and ticks. Ticks can do harm to the body because they can cause many diseases. They can cause your pet to suffer through some detrimental health problems.

Having fleas is another pest problem for felines and can cause them to have bad health as well. The prevention of fleas will be a good idea if you have a cat because fleas can very well kill your feline if you don't get this problem treated. There isn't much you can do when your cat is young, but there is some powder you can use that helps cut down on them.

If fleas and ticks are a problem for your fluffy feline, then you must take your cat to a vet to see if all is well with their health after being exposed to them. Your feline needs a medication that can eliminate the fleas and ticks. You can speak to a vet to get this information. The vet will help you find a reputable brand that can assist your cat in eliminating this problem.

You will have a healthy feline if you are able avoid most cat health problems. But you have to know about the other health conditions that your feline can get. A condition that is common among many cats is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). You should be careful about the litter that you purchase because your cat can get a UTI if you use the wrong litter.

The chemicals in some types of litter can harm the urinary system which can result in a UTI. If you want to avoid problems with a UTI, you must find the type of litter that helps prevent UTIs. The litter that you purchase should be safe for your feline to use. The vet needs to see her in order to make sure she gets the right medications that can help her eliminate this problem. UTI occurs often with males and rarely with females. Your cat can die from a UTI if your cat does not get looked at by a vet.

Another bad health problem that cats can get is feline leukemia. This is the most common cause of cancer and may harm your cat's immune system. It can cause the death of your furball at home. That's why it's important to get your cat the proper vaccines to prevent this problem. The problem with feline leukemia is to make sure that there are no other cats around because it is very contagious and can cause the death of many cats.

The responsibilities you have as a pet owner is to make sure you give your pet the right care. Taking your bundle of joy to the vet can prevent him or her from suffering any prolonged problems with their health. Cat health problems can be handled easily when you get to it before the problem starts. In order to find additional information on how to help your kitten avoid the health problems mentioned in this article, you should check out the Internet for more information that pertains to these health problems. The pet you have at home needs to be in perfect health and needs to be loved by you.

The most important step in pet care lies first in mealtime, especially since the teacup yorkies stomach is extra temperamental. Most owners will tell you that many find foods exist on the market today that cater specifically for the breed. However, owners find that the care associated with yorkie mealtime is just as important to their pet's health and satisfaction.

Yorkies love to be stroked and encouraged during mealtime. This method is often recommended by top breeders, especially for young puppies. Teacup yorkies are very loyal to their owners and love to feel a part of the pack.

Yorkie food comes in many forms. You may want to mix or match your pet's food depending on many factors. Some examples are cost, availability, and pet preference.

Some canned foods contain all meat, but they are not complete. Others are mixtures of meat and grains. Such foods have been fortified with additional nutrients for a more complete and balanced diet.

Dog owners may want to serve dry food "as is" or mix it with warm water or broth. Or perhaps you'll choose to combine dry food with fresh or canned preparations. Either way, your yorkie will appreciate just a touch of variety without upsetting their regular diet.

You must help develop your teacup yorkie's eating habits, too. Try to serve your dog his meals at the same time each day and in the same location. He will get used to his daily routine and develop good eating habits.

Be sure to read the labels carefully before you make your dog food purchase. Most reputable pet food manufacturers list the ingredients and the nutritional content right on the can or package. Instructions are usually included so that you will know how much to feed your teacup yorkie to keep him thriving and in top condition.

Many teacup yorkie owners find supplements to be an additional preferential treatment for their pet. Liquid or powder vitamin and mineral supplements, or those in tablet form, are available. These supplements may be given if you need to feel certain that the diet is balanced.

Yorkie puppies sometimes require special care. If you are thinking about adopting a yorkie, you may want to take into consideration important facts about common skin diseases among Yorkie puppies.

Yorkie puppies are susceptible to two types of skin diseases; parasitic and general skin conditions. Parasites are tiny little bugs or worms that may bite your poor pup and create nasty marks, rashes, and redness or swelling; some yorkies may even develop an allergic reaction.

Major parasites are worms, roundworms, hook worms, and tapeworms. Most puppies have roundworms and they should be treated at least twice before they are taken into another home, and it is wise to do so every ex weeks for the first year.

When applying treatment always follow the exact instructions with modern insecticidal dressing and wear rubber gloves and protective clothing where advised to do so. Do not forget to treat the yorkie puppy's bedding and collar, too.

Worms if not properly extricated from a home can infest children in some circumstances. In the worst scenarios, worms can make children blind.

Yorkie puppies may also suffer from one of the unfortunately common general skin conditions that so often can be inflicted. Some common skin conditions that yorkies may be infected with are allergies, dermatitis, or eczema.

Because a common skin disease form is allergies, yorkie owners should pay special attention to household items that may cause an allergic reaction. Allergies due to foods, household textiles, especially the man-made fiber carpets, and inadequately cured skin rugs, disinfectants, and washing powders are quite common in yorkies.

In the case of a surefire allergic reaction, treat the yorkie puppy's skin with a soothing ointment or cream prescribed by the veterinarian. Then do not forget to remove all sources of the allergy from the yorkie's environment to prevent future reactions.

Believe it or not, cats can get diabetes just like people do. It is just as life-threatening and requires just as much care. This is not to say it's hard to care for a diabetic cat; it isn't.

You may not notice the symptoms at first but as soon as you do, get him in to see his veterinarian right away. The first thing you may notice is excessive water consumption with frequent urination. He will also have an increased appetite, yet dramatic weight loss. You may also see lethargy.

After time, he may also develop neuropathy. This is a common side effect of diabetes. With neuropathy, a cat will walk on his haunches instead of his paws. This will distort his posture and give him a hunch back. He will also have difficulty making what used to be simple jumps.

In essence, what is happening with neuropathy is that the signals being sent from the brain to make the muscles move do not make it back to the muscles. So, your cat will begin his jump but the muscles will fail before the jump is complete. He will miss the target and fall. It is scary to witness. If you have not noticed other symptoms of diabetes but see this behavior, get to the vet as soon as possible.

The good news is that once the diabetes is under control, the neuropathy will correct itself. Controlling diabetes will require giving the cat insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas. A failing pancreas raises blood sugar levels. Insulin is usually given via injections twice per day. There are insulin pills available but most cats will not respond to these. There are different types of insulin that use certain types of syringes. Your vet can determine which type is best for your cat.

Type and amount of insulin is determined with a series of tests. First there is an initial 'glucose curve.'This is just testing the blood every four hours to monitor the blood sugar throughout the day. Different insulin doses will be given and more curves will be done over time to establish which dose keeps your cat's blood sugar stable throughout the day.

Once the right dose is determined, the injections must be given regularly, usually twice a day. Missing a dose is not generally an issue, although several missed doses will cause sugar levels to stay elevated. The most important thing to keep in mind regarding insulin is that too much is even worse than too little. Too much insulin is extremely dangerous. Seizures and even death can occur instantly. Keep a record of shots given to ensure that he is getting his insulin an also that he isn't inadvertently given shots by two different people.

Be sure to keep up with regular check-ups recommended by the veterinarian. This is always important but it is especially important in the case of diabetes. Unlike humans or even dogs, the pancreas of a cat can actually 're-learn' to function properly over time. What this means is that a cat's pancreas may actually start to produce insulin on its own. If you continue to give insulin, your cat will get too much and overdose. Again, this can lead to death.

Living with a diabetic cat is not complicated. It just takes care and dedication to proper care. In most diabetes cases cats may not even require a special diet. Just stay on top of the situation. A little ear scratching will be appreciated too.

It is critical to be aware of what you should look for regarding diabetes symptoms and the impact on your health. The Diabetes Advice Online services gives you information and details on the steps you should take when you might have diabetes.

Many dog owners are faced with bad behavior in their dogs, and if you're dealing with dog behavioral problems, it's advisable to act as quickly if possible. If bad dog behavior is tolerated, you may end up with a bigger problem on your hands. Thankfully, there are many no-brainer ways to adjust dog behavior issues in a humane and loving way.

Dog behavioral problems can range from adorable, but annoying little problems, to full on threatening issues such as a dog attack. Though there are various causes of behavioral problems, the solutions are pretty consistent. The old saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks," isn't a plan you should rely on and with consistent training, you can beat dog behavior problems. Let's look at a few user-friendly dog training tips.

1. Keep it Up. This is the non-negotiable piece of advice when training any pet. You may be tempted to let them slide every once in awhile, but this will only serve to undo your efforts. Be consistent with praise as well as with corrections and your pet will begin to understand that you are indeed the pack leader.

2. A System of Reward is Non-Negotiable. While many older dog training techniques, like putting your dog's nose in their mess, may appear initially effective, they may actually produce more problems later on. Building up and praising your dog helps your dog associate good behavior with positive results, and is a very effective means of addressing even the toughest dog behavior problems.

In brief, positive reinforcement means that you reward a dog when he or she does what you are training him or her to do, and hold back the reward when they don't. Even the most stubborn pet will begin to respond to these methods, when they are applied consistently.

3. You NEED a Crate. One of the easiest ways to stop destructive behavior is to provide your dog with clear cut boundaries. Crating them while you're away, or when you just want some space is an effective and humane training aid. You may need to introduce them to the crate slowly, and allow them time to get used to being confined. Remember, be consistent and reward them for good behavior in their crate. A crate should never be used as a punishment, insted as a safe place for them to go and be at ease.

4. An additional cautionary note for you and especially your loved ones. Once the dog behavioral problems are addressed, and the corrective training has started, it is imperative everyone who deals with the dog use the same-exact training techniques. Everyone must be consistent in the handling of the dog. If not, your poor pooch will become very uncertain and may act out even more than before the positive reinforcement training was initatied.

Once you have these methods in place, you can easily begin to solve dog behavioral issues without undue stress to you or your pet. A well behaved pet is a happy pet and you'll appreciate the lack of destructive and potentially harmful dog behavioral problems.

If you are a pet owner and your pet is either a cat or a dog you probably already know these things. Most of the time pet owners tend to forget how important these things are so I am here to remind you.

* Movement: Both a pet cat and a pet dog will need for you to make them use their physics. Their body need exercise to function and the larger the pet's body is the more exercise will be required.

* Way to exercise: If your cat is a stay at home cat you will need to take it out into nature. If you live in a big city you must take it for daily walks. All dogs (even the smaller ones) will need at least one daily walk and for larger breeds you need two or three walks a day of at least 30 minutes.

*Excess for is bad: Be sure not to overfeed your pet. Most cats and smaller dogs will only eat when they are hungry will many larger breed dogs will eat whatever you put in front of them and they can't stop until the food is gone.

* Healthy ingredients: Be sure to feed your pet with high quality food. You will find that you'll have to pay a little extra for the food but your pet's health condition will be improved drastically if you do.

* Love: Just like humans a pet will need love from you and from anyone else in your family. Without love a pet will lose the will to live just like a human would. Talk to your pet daily using happy words and make sure to keep a physical contact as well.

* Insure your pet: Every day thousands of pets get hurt by cars and there is nothing we can do about it. But instead of hoping that it'll never happen to your pet be sure to get an good pet health insurance that will cover everything if bad luck strikes.

* Keep a schedule: To make things easy on yourself be sure to use some kind of schedule. Feeding your pet should be obvious but things like medical checks and vaccinations might not be. For an optimal health condition of your pet youll need to remember these things as well.

The amount of persons that are showing an interest in pet health insurance is growing. In actual fact, a recent survey revealed that one out of three American households own an animal of some kind.

The greater part of these households have a cat or a dog that they take care of. These animals especially, will benefit enormously from a health insurance plan. And, believe it or not you can get the plan for an incredibly small fee.

Really, you avidly pay for this insurance for your pet in the same manner that you pay for your own health care. Pet health insurance can help you save a lot of money if your pet ever comes down with a cold or is injured in any way.

There are many individuals that aimlessly spend thousands of dollars each year taking their animals to the vet. With the decline of the economy these charges can build up fast. Besides, over the past year the amount of folks that used to take their animals to the vet has declined.

Individuals have not ceased bringing their animals to the vet due to the fact that they don't care for them. Roughly, persons have ceased conducting vet visits for their animals because they simply cannot afford it.

The current economic decline has already caused a plethora of animals to suffer. These animals are not suffering because their owners do not care about them, they are suffering because their owners cannot afford to care for them properly.

Pet health insurance will help owners to be able to afford the monotonous vet visits. Owners will submit a small monthly fee, which depends on the age of your pet and their health conditions and then everything is generally paid for.

Owners will receive peace of mind when they enroll their pets onto their own insurance plan. In the event that your pet gets sick or is hurt in anyway, you will not have to question taking them to the vet to get them looked at.

A lot of people avidly view their pets as a part of their families, almost like their children to an amount. Would you desire your child to suffer with ailments, and not be able to take them to the doctor? Then why would you want your pet to suffer with a problem that they may have?

There are many different types of plans that you can choose from that will meet your pets immediate needs. The plans are affordable and can fit into anyone's current budget. Protect your best friend from the worst with pet health insurance.

Health insurance is time and again something that folks ignore because they hope that nothing will ever happen to them. However if you want to take out any sort of health insurance, you should read helpful advice on buying health insurance at OCC Health News.

There are quite a few different things that your doctor will advise you not to do while you are pregnant, just to ensure the safety of both you and your unborn child. One of the most major however, and that they want you to take in all seriousness, is to stay away from any cat litter while you are pregnant.

The reason that your doctor will ask you to stay away from the cat litter box while you are pregnant is because cat feces can carry a parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, this infection would be potentially life threatening for your developing baby, but not so for you.

So while you a pregnant you are going to want somebody else to clean your cat litter box. Although the odds of you catching toxoplasmosis while you are pregnant are quite low, of course in this case it is a great deal better to be safe than sorry, which is the reason why doctors usually recommend that you just do not go near cat litter while is are with child.

Some More Tips

There is a few other things that you need to avoid also while you are pregnant, besides cat litter. As most people already know, smoking is very bad for your health, but never more so than if you are pregnant.

Smoking while pregnant will do much more harm to your unborn child than it ever will to you, even if you were a smoker before you got pregnant, you should cut back as much as possible or hopefully discontinue altogether, in order to guarantee the best health of your child.

Smoking is a major health problem, but at least if you do smoke when you are not pregnant you will not have the worry about harming your baby. The more that a woman smokes whilst she is pregnant, the greater chance that she has of having a low-birthweight child. This will greatly affect the health of the baby, and particularly if they are premature they may not be able to make it through.

Research suggests that any woman who smokes at anytime during the month before pregnancy to the end of the first trimester are more in all probability to have a baby with birth defects.

I hope you will see from this, staying away from cat litter and other things that are going to be perhaps risky to your developing baby is really important, and will ensure that they stay in the best possible health.

One solution to this is to buy a Automatic Cat Litter Box, so for further free information visit Automatic Cat Litter Boxes.

Some dogs are not easy to train. Some people believe that such dogs are often stupid and dumb. This is not the truth. Such a dog may actually be more intelligent than others. There are many reasons why a dog may be hard to train.

Some dogs are too intelligent and dominant too. These traits make your training tasks a bit difficult sometimes. They are good in hunting and fighting from their birth time. Some of them can even guess our moods and change their actions according to our mood.

Some dogs have a high level of dominance. Once they have their attention onto something, they do not give up easily on that. So you should not stop them from doing something. They will stop when they feel like.

Dogs can not be easily stopped when they are doing things like digging up soil or chewing things. If they are hard to persuade, it show their high level of dominance and determination. You have to find new ways to persuade them.

If you are trying to get your dog to exercise and he comes upon something that interests him, you should better let him do it no matter how long it takes. Once he is done, you can continue the exercises.

The dog training sessions have to be interesting. You can get him to find hidden toys or do innovative exercises that stimulate his brain. You can do things that your dog likes the most as he responds better to interesting things.

Consider becoming a member at a local kennel club. You will be able to go to various dog shows and even find more information about dog training. Pet owners often have a lot to gain from such club memberships.

Thus you can have a well trained dog. One thing that you must not do is the use of violence to teach your dog a lesson.

You should train your dog to eat anywhere. You should train him to eat indoors, outdoors and in any room. Doing this will help you in future when you take the dog with you anywhere.

You should train the dog to settle in the crate from the time he is very young. Thus you can take him to any place and he will settle down easily in the crate. It is better if the dog goes potty on a leash. You may consider buying a flexi leash.

The dog should be trained to stay quiet when you are driving the vehicle. He should sit quietly. You can then reward him by giving him his favorite thing to eat. So he will follow your order every time and not make a lot of noise when you are driving.

The dog training sessions are useful in getting your dog to respect you and accept your orders. You can control him and not worry about your dog getting out of your control for any reason

It is highly recommended that you should not use any violence with your puppy. You can warn him by saying just "No". You can carry him to the toilet place. If he does not use the toilet sometimes, the place should be cleaned immediately.

Some dogs love chewing the furniture. The reason can be that he just likes chewing things. You can stop him from doing so. You can buy some good chewing toys that will catch the interest of your puppy and not make him feel bored.

You can also paint some objects with substances that taste foul. Such substances are available at pet stores but you should make sure that these are not toxic. You can also use the Aversion therapy.

Obedience training has to be done carefully. Do not use complex commands that will only confuse your dog. The training sessions must not be very long and boring. You should also not use force on your puppy.

In this article, we'll look at why it's important to choose the right animal hospital for your pet and what criteria you may want to base this important decision on. When you have an idea of what to look for and what kind of questions to ask, you'll be able to make an informed decision about your pet's health care.

The first step is to ask family, friends and colleagues where they take their pets for veterinary care. It can be a challenge to find the right animal hospital for your pet; if you live in a rural area, there may not be a lot of choices. In a large city, you may have dozens of different animal hospitals to choose from. In both cases, this can make it difficult to decide on the right hospital. The opinions of other pet owners who have had their pet cared for at a particular animal hospital are the best source of information about the level of care given. Both positive and negative views are good to know; after all, you don't want your companion animal being given anything but the best possible care.

You should make sure that the veterinarian's license (if there is only one licensed vet at the hospital) is valid and ask if the hospital has a registered veterinary technician on staff. You want to be certain that the staff at the hospital has the right skills and has been certified to provide veterinary care in your state.

Next, you should have a meeting with the veterinarian. Other than making sure that their license is valid, you should ask what their experience in veterinary care is and what animals they are skilled in treating. Having many years of experience in the field is a plus - though exactly how much experience you want your vet to have is, of course up to you.

Check to see if their veterinary license is a permanent license or a temporary one. You probably don't want to entrust your beloved pet's well being to a vet with a temporary license - it means that they are still undergoing their training! You should also take this opportunity to ask what the responsibilities of the veterinary technicians who work at the hospital are, since it's important to know exactly who is providing your pet with health care services and how experienced they are.

Fourthly, when you first visit the animal hospital ask to see the veterinarian's services beyond routine maintenance make these mental observations and ask yourself these questions: do they have an Urgent Care? (If so, what are the hours?) Do they perform surgeries and complicated interventions? Do they offer educational services such as puppy classes and trainings? Do they provide nutritional services and dietary supplementation and information for your pet's elderly care needs? Do they have a website? What does it say about them and their staff? Do not assume that just because an animal hospital states in it's name that it's an ?animal hospital' that they are legitimate or top notch or comprehensive for pet health care needs. This is especially important if you are at the animal hospital for an emergency medical procedure. If you don't have someone to recommend a good animal hospital to you, you can ultimately come to a discussion by taking a tour of the facilities.

Getting a quick tour after your Vet interview/meeting is a good idea. Knowing what to look for in an animal hospital's examinations room and surgery area is important and a simple observation can say a lot, start with how clean are these two areas: work surfaces and examination rooms. For example, vet work surfaces should be clean and sterile (think hospital). It is okay to take a quick peek directly underneath the edges of tables without offending anyone. Also important, the floor should be free of pet hair and any debris. Sanitary conditions are just as important for your pet as for you during medical procedures; thus are the examination room and surgical areas organized? Organization is key while taking care of the health of a pet, especially in an emergency. How does the animal hospital smell? This can say a lot more than what you see, check out operating rooms and examining rooms beyond the waiting room--it can be an indicator because this is where the actual medical care will take place-a bad odor, beyond the usual pet smell, is a sign that something is not right (such as a mishandling of animal bodily fluids can crate an unhealthy environment for both you and your pet).

The above tips are all good ways to help you get the information you need to make an informed decision about the right animal hospital for your pet. If you can, get a referral from a family member of acquaintance. You need to make sure that the veterinarian and other staff are properly licensed, find out what work is performed by the hospital's staff and of course, you should tour the facility and interview the veterinarian in order to make the right decision and choose the best animal hospital near you to provide your pet with the excellent care they deserve.

Ok so what are dog allergies and why you should be concerned about them. For one, they can cause problems for your pets to the extent that they can be suffering quite a bit from it. This means you'll have to take them to the vet and that costs money and time.

Usually these problems arise from the fact that dog owners do not take remedy actions in the early stages of dog allergies. By the time the dog allergies have become serious, it usually takes quite a bit more to solve the allergies. So take heed. Here i will share a few quick tips on how to spot early signs of dog allergies so you can do something about it right away.

Alright let's look at food allergies. The most usual sign for dog food allergies is that your dog will scratch a lot. If you see your pet scratching, licking or even chewing themselves constantly, it is a pretty sure symptom of dog allergies. Some possible triggers for this kind of reactions can be the food they are eating. A quick way to test this out is to systematically remove each dog food ingredient until the symptoms disappears. This helps you to isolate the cause of the dog food allergies.

Another common type of dog allergies is something called Atopy. This is caused by allergy due to their surrounding environment. Certain dust mites, pollen or molds can trigger such kinds of allergies. Again, some of the symptoms are chewing and scratching themselves, specifically the paws and face. Some remedy actions you can take is to remove your dog from these environmental triggers.

If they are allergic to dust mites, be sure to take them out of that area where it is full of dust mites. Now, this may not be possible in some cases, where the allergens are in the house itself. For this situation, you can clean your dog by giving them more frequent baths with medically-approved shampoos. Boosting their immune system is also another feasible way to fight against the allergies. Feed your dog with an omega three rich diet.

Those are just a few quick tips and tricks you can utilize to help alleviate your dog of allergies. Remember the golden rule: Detect early and treat it when possible!

Natural dog shampoos come in a variety of scents. All of the scents are derived from natural compounds. Many scents come from citrus fruits and you can also find natural scents from aloe vera, jasmine, coconut and other essential oils.

Even though the natural ingredients are better for your pet, sometimes the main ingredients in the shampoo will cause your pet to break out. This does not happen often, however rest be assured that the ingredients are not harmful to your dog or cat like regular pet shampoos.

There are many benefits of using organic dog shampoo for your pet. Using natural treatments are less harmful than their counter parts. All natural products tend to be much milder than traditional shampoos. The harsher the product is, the more chances that your dog's skin will break out into a nasty rash. The positive aspect of using organic dog shampoo is that your dog's skin will not be damaged by any of the harmful chemicals contained in regular shampoo. Also, it is recommended that you test your dog's skin for different types of food allergies. This is the best way to determine which organic shampoos are suitable for your pet.

You should also choose a dog hair care product that is 100% USDA certified. That way you will have no doubt as in the quality of your organic dog shampoo. There might not be anything wrong with your traditional dog shampoo, but when your dog starts scratching like crazy, you might want to consider buying a natural dog shampoo.

Although you will have a deep love for animals ; often you could develop pet allergies after coming into contact them. In fact, it's also common for some folk to develop pet allergies even after having kept pets for several years.

The downcast part is that your love for animals can be put to severe test if you develop pet allergy and this allergy in turn will make you suffer from sick health. Some of the common symptoms of pet allergies include irritation in the skin, panting as well as having eyes that water constantly.

Part With Your Pet

If a pet allergy treatment doesn't work in controlling evidence of your pet allergy you may even be forced into parting with your pet. However, some people are so keen on their pets that they won't consider giving away their pets. A solution for such folks is to guarantee reducing dander in the home and to also remove allergens in the home so the chances of developing pet allergy are significantly reduced.

There are however a few easy natural pet allergy treatment options worth testing out. For one, you must ensure that your pet is not allowed anywhere near your sleeping area and to also ensure that the pet is not allowed on to your furniture. These are relatively simple natural pet allergy treatment options and should be followed exactly to stop pet allergy from influencing you.

Another natural pet allergy treatment possibility is to wash the pet each week and when brushing the pet to remember and do so outside of the house and on a daily basis too. These measures will help in reducing the amount of dander that the pet carries within the home. In a similar vein, another simple natural pet allergy treatment possibility is to convert your pet into an outside pet and to not let him stay indoors with you.

You may also need to vacuum your carpets on an everyday basis and also damp out dust at least once in a week. Other than this, you need to ensure washing your hands with a good soap each time you have played with or touched your pet.

Other straightforward pet allergy treatments include installing air purifier in the home that may remove pet dander from the air and to have wooden floors rather than carpeting the floors which will only trap the allergens and that will mean raising the risk of pet allergies.

Allergy asthma is very often spotted among children and also in teens and to prevent and treat this condition needs finding out about effective allergy asthma treatment such as becoming physically active and enjoying sports and games.

You may also need to consider another pet allergy treatment option and that is that when selecting your pet to look to bring home a pet that is regarded allergy friendly? This means that small birds as well as small dogs are known to carry fewer amounts of dander and so will therefore pose less of a threat regarding risk of pet allergy.

There are many reasons why a dog barks, boredom, anxiety, excitement as well as many other reasons. Regardless of why they are barking, one thing still remains the same. Whoever has to listen to the barking can easily be driven crazy with the barking. This can and does often lead to the dog be taken away from the owner, which is horrible, but can happen.

Every year hundreds of dogs are taken away from their families all because of excessive barking. Yes you can train your dog to stop barking, this can be a great way of actually training them to stop, however, if your dog is only barking when you are at work, then its really hard to train them. Anti Bark collars are great, as you can use corrective action without having to be there yourself.

There are two main types of anti bark collar, the first is a static collar, this anti bark static collar has a little box attached to the collar, this is activated with the barking sound and vibration of the bark. Once its activated, it provides the dog with a vibration. There is no electricity in the anti bark collar, so its not harmful to the dog, its only unpleasant.

Citronella collars are the other type of anti bark collars on the market. If you can not imagine using the static collars, then this is the one for you. When your dog barks, it emits a citronella spray in his or her face. Dogs naturally hate the smell of citronella, so its a great way to stop them from barking quickly.

Another anti bark collar is the citronella collar. The citronella collar is the best type of anti bark collar if you really do not like the idea of the static collar. How the citronella collar works is that it sprays a burst of citronella near the dogs face when he or she barks. Dogs naturally hate the smell of citronella so it will prompt them to stop the barking very quick.

While most pet owners would pick a dog over a bird to provide companionship, love, and entertainment, the truth of the matter is that birds are equally good at providing all three and can even take the place of man's best friend if given the chance. Birds are so easily overshadowed by the stereotype cast upon Polly by Hollywood that their emotional and intellectual attributes are often disregarded in favor of a fluffy, tail-wagging puppy. Yes birds happen to sit and squawk in their cages for most of their lives, but that's only if the owner neglects to take the time and create a bond with their pet bird. Birds, like all pets, can create strong bonds with their owners and can even be trained and enjoy having fun if given the chance. Remember, the owner is the one keeping the bird in the cage. Given the chance to fly, your bird will spread its wings and soar.

Before one can turn that feathery puzzle into the perfect pet, there are a few behaviors that we as owners should be aware of. The quickest way to get on good terms with our pet is by understanding each other and birds, like dogs or cats, have unique behaviors that may seem confusing to a new owner but shouldn't be cause for alarm. Keep in mind that birds are living, breathing, and most importantly feeling creatures. In order to keep a relationship with your bird healthy, remember that birds don't necessarily have to talk in order to express their feelings. There are many other obvious signs that you will see over time that will tell you how their feeling or what they need.

If a bird becomes excited it doesn't always mean that it's upset or angry. However, there are a few behaviors to be aware of and if it does seem your bird is either agitated or exceedingly excited, it's never a bad idea to keep your finger out of its' face. Eye pining is when the eye of a bird dilates in and out repeatedly and quickly. This is often a very obvious sign of excitement, as is the flaring of tail feathers. When your bird starts clicking its beak, it is most notably a warning to keep your distance. Wait until the bird has stopped clicking or has been left to calm down over a period of time before attempting to stick your hand in the cage.

Some other movements may not indicate any excitement and rather serve functional purposes. Feather fluffing occurs when birds have finished cleaning themselves in order to rid of the excess debris that's collected within the folds of the feathers. Feather fluffing is also done to keep a bird warm, though, so if your bird seems to be doing an excessive amount of it, it may be ill. Birds may also wipe their beaks on a perch or on the cage after their done eating to rid of extra mess.

Some behaviors are bird-specific. If your bird has a feather crest atop it's head, it may flare it when it's experiencing certain emotions whether it be agitated or happy. Take note of when it happens and try to understand what triggers it. Other birds, such as the Quaker, are named for their unique behavior. Quakers shake frequently for no apparent reason, and some birds will bob their heads out of anxiousness, excitement, or agitation. Most birds will shake after a bath regardless, due to an involuntary muscle spasm in their chest, but take note if your bird seems to do it when in a particular mood.

Other normal behaviors of birds include the grinding of their beak right before they fall asleep, which indicates contentment, or the preening of feathers to keep them neat and clean. Preening is only worrisome when it turns into over-preening and the bird is constantly plucking out or chewing out feathers. Birds also regurgitate food to younger birds and those they care about. So if you and your bird are close enough, you may find that it will regurgitate for you as a sign of affection. Don't be alarmed. There is a distinct difference between regurgitation and vomit; vomit will stick to the feathers and beak of the bird.

Keep in mind that your bird was not bred to live in a cage, ergo the tight confined environment might bore your pet after a while. Give your bird space to fly free and equipment to play with. Like all pets, birds enjoy some free time and the occasional good toy. If you see your bird attempting to lift off in the cage or shuffling uneasily, it's a good bet that it's bored or needing some open air. Consider blocking off a room and letting the bird go. It will appreciate it in the long run and the exercise will relieve a lot of pent up energy. Birds will also nap frequently throughout the day. Birds will usually sleep on one leg, and if the bird looks fluffed and is sleeping on two legs it may be ill.

Your bird may also become possessive of either you or the cage, and may even show signs of jealous aggression if you get another bird or pet. Birds also have extremely obvious behavior such as hiding when they are scare or freezing in place. They may even beg for food or attention if their being deprived of either, but if it becomes an issue don't be afraid to figure out what triggered it to begin with and change it. Like all pets, birds adapt well to the wishes of an owner that is willing to take the time to work with them and understand them.

Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic have treated cancer in dogs, and this may lead to a new strategy on how to fight cancer in people as well.

Joseph A. Bauer, PhD at the 237th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, presented research on just this topic. The research built on more than 60 years of effort toward developing a B12 based attack for cancer.

The story begins with a "miracle dog" by the name of Oscar, a ten year old Bichon Frise who had a very aggressive type of cancer known as anal sac adenocarcinoma.

After the standard chemotherapy and radiation, and with no improvement, poor Oscar was left unable to walk and with only three months to live.

As a last hope, Bauer and his colleagues gave the super sick pooch a cancer killing medicine known as nitrosylcobalamin (NO-Cbl for short).

Within 14 days Oscars cancer had improved significantly and he was back on his feet again.

This compound has now been given to other dogs with equally promising results and no negative side effects. This drug targets cancer cells like a "Trojan horse", delivered by being hidden inside something that looks harmless or beneficial.

The compound is made with nitric oxide that's attached to vitamin B12. Researchers know that receptors on the cancer cell surfaces will attract the vitamin and so help it getting into the cell.

The compound works because cancer cells have extra B12 receptors. Once inside, the nitric oxide is released and the cell dies. Genius, pure genius.

Bauer's team is using ultrasound and MRI imaging to keep an eye on tumor size in all three of the dogs currently under treatment.

After 9 months of NO-Cbl the spinal tumor of a 6 year old golden retriever, Buddy, has been reduced by 40%, and the inoperable thyroid cancer of a 13 year old female giant schnauzer by 77% in just ten weeks of treatment.

Also, Haley, a golden retriever, is being treated for a spinal tumor. Once the team treats ten dogs with the drug, they'll go for FDA approval to test the medication in people.

Mice aren't the only good subjects to use for such research.

He points out that people and dogs are genetically similar - enough to make a successful case for approval from the FDA.

Interesting to know that the National Cancer Institute has data on pets.

After all, they breathe the same air as we do; drink the same water as we do and eat processed foods just as we do.

"We are one of the few research groups that is offering to treat dogs with cancer that otherwise have no hope," Bauer makes clear. "With no other options available, most people in this situation opt to euthanize so that their pets don't go through the pain of disease and trauma of surgery."

The good news for dog owners is that this treatment also offers hope for a faithful friend who may be one of the estimated 6 million dogs in the U.S. alone diagnosed with cancer each year.

It's a rare thing for research to uncover a treatment that can be used for animals, and yet holds realistic promise for people as well.

Guinea pigs can make great pets - they're not too big, they don't bite and are generally very calm and friendly: perfect for those who don't want the responsibility of a dog or a cat. But they still need a good amount of space and certain other supplies before you take them home. Just use this article as a guide to what you can expect from your new pet!

Gathering Your Supplies

Before you buy a new pet guinea pig, make sure that you understand just what care its going to need. The great news is that these make relatively inexpensive pets, but youll still be making a long term commitment (most guinea pigs live between 5 and 7 years). The basics youll need include food, a water bottle, a chew toy, a spacious cage (see below), bedding and a covered sleeping area.

Making Your Pet Guinea Pig Part of The Family

If you give your guinea pig the comfortable home it deserves then it won't try to escape. It's going to need space to move around in, and guinea pigs also generally prefer company. When it comes to just how much space they will need, it's a good idea to have at least 2 square feet per animal. That way, you'll make sure they're a really cared-for part of the family.

Guinea pigs will also need the space to hide away - especially if you have more than one. Give them a covered area to sleep and hide and they'll be happy.

Getting Used to Your New Pet

Guinea pigs have always been famous for how easily they scare - but this doesn't mean it will be impossible to form a bond. All it means is that you should try to appear friendly to them at all times. For example, when you want to watch them, make sure you kneel and don't lean over the cage.

To build a bond with your new pet, gently start to pet them. It might take a little while, but when they do get used to you they are extremely friendly animals. Eventually you'll be able to pick them up and cuddle them, but just make sure to support their whole bodies and hold them gently - they're very small and delicate creatures.

Guinea pigs won't bite, which makes them great creatures to get close to. Just remember that it can take time, but once you have that bond it will never be broken!

Birds can sometimes be a little more difficult to comprehend than a cat or a dog, and sometimes that can lead to serious issues. Health concerns in a bird could be respiratory infections, or even excessive molting just to name a few. If you take care of your bird properly however, a lot of said issues can be avoided. Some things that you should do to keep your bird in good health is feed it the proper foods and go to the veterinarian on a regular basis. This article will outline a few more methods of keeping your bird healthy, so keep reading.

First, it's important to realize that every kind of bird will require different care. Birds don't have the same needs any more than dogs, cats, and hamsters all respond to the same diet and care. They may all be mammals, but they need different things. That's why you'll have to be careful and take the time to learn what's appropriate for your particular bird.

You should also be aware that many pet products on the market are not only not what's best for pet birds, but actively harmful. There's little regulation in this area, so it's legal for companies to produce and sell cages, toys, food, and medication that could be bad for your pet bird's health. The good news is that not every product is like this, and if you take a little time to find out how to care for your bird correctly, you can quickly rule out products that could cause harm.

Make sure that your bird has a proper diet that features the right nutrients. In most cases you will find that this is pretty easy because there are food packets that have the right nutrients for your particular bird. Sometimes though the seed packets are of low quality and you will need to add a few supplements in order to get the desired effect. That doesn't mean that all of them are inadequate but there are definitely a few that are so you'll need to keep an eye out for that.

A poor diet can make your bird more susceptible to infections, cause overgrowth of the beak and nails, or cause feather loss, among other conditions. Birds can be very fragile, but they may not look ill until their problems have progressed significantly. This is why it's important to make sure that you have a good veterinarian with experience working with birds already lined up, so that when you see something out of the ordinary, you can find the problem fast.

A change in your bird's attitude as well as fluid discharge in odd places such as nostrils or beak, will probably indicate that the bird is ill, or may even have a diet issue. If you find that your bird is sick, then know that the other birds in the cage will probably begin to bully it. This is something that you want to take care of immediately because it could result in death unless you take action.

Be willing to take your vet's advice when you bring your pet in, even if it means changing something major about the way you take care of your pet. It's possible that your cage has been too small, the environment wrong for your bird, or that something else is wrong. If you aren't willing to correct this problem, you're not going to be able to keep your pet bird in good health. Even if someone else has told you that your setup is fine, take the time to try and correct it, for the sake of your pet.

Being observant and willing to learn are the things that are most important if you have a pet bird. Once you take the time to find out the best way to keep your pet, you'll have a much easier time keeping him or her in good health.

Pets are there for you whenever you feel down and will love you unconditionally. Their playful nature will make us forget about our problems and will put a smile on our face. Even Psychologists agree that caring for animals will bring good mental health.

One thing about pets is that they offer you companionship like no other. If you have a dog for instance, you will find that it will tag along with you no matter what you do and what kind of mood you are in. They are also not demanding in terms of attention and they are not very hard to satisfy.

Just petting an animal's fur can be a good means of reducing stress. The feel of the fur can awaken in you memories of simpler times, when your stress level was much lower. It's possible that having a pet around could even reduce your heart rate or your blood pressure.

Owning a pet is not hard work at all. You may even have experienced it when you were young. All you need to do provide food and shelter. You will also need to spend a little of your time playing with them and keep them healthy by paying the occasional visit to the veterinarian. For instance, if you have a dog, the daily walk can put both you and your dog in a state of relaxation. It can in turn help you to think clearly about your problem.

When looking for a pet, you want your search to be as stress-free as possible. Talk to friends and neighbors and see if they know of anyone who's selling or giving away a pet. You might also consult your local newspaper for ads for pets for sale. You might also consider rescuing a pet from a pound. It can be quite rewarding, knowing that you helped to save a life.

If you don't have much time to care for a pet, you might want to consider pets that require less attention such as cats, canary or goldfish. Just because you opt for a fish, doesn't mean your house will be boring. Just about any pet will have positive effects on your home. You can still feel the joy of having a pet once you spend time caring for it and watching it grow.

For those who have never experience taking care of pets before; you will have to educate yourself first on how to be a good pet owner. You can find many books in the library about pet care. You can also check out your local humane society and see if they offer any informational packets or guides in becoming a pet owner.

If however, you are unable to have a pet of your own due to constraints such as the apartment you live does not allow pets, you can always go for pet-sitting. By doing this, you can spend a couple of hours per day to be with a pet and doing an activity together. One good example is walking someone else's dog. Not only will you be able to relieve your stress, you also get to make new a animal friend.

In time, you might find that your pet becomes a part of your family-a treasured companion in good times and bad. You'll learn to recognize your pets' likes and dislikes, and you'll probably forge a strong bond. In time, you might decide to add another dog or another cat to the family. Holiday time and other celebrations can become more festive with a pet in the house. In addition, you should find that your stress level decreases a great deal, having a pet around to keep you company. Just having a creature there to entertain you can be quite therapeutic. You may be amazed at the changes you'll undergo, as you become accustomed to being a pet owner.

Looking for reasons to grab your dog and perform some quality Doga? Well, there's certainly no shortage of reasons; Doga, like yoga provides a variety of advantages and benefits to both the human and canine participant. From physical benefits to toxic cleansing, Doga provides those who participate with a wide range of benefits that other workout and meditation routines fail to do.

Here's something you may not know about Doga; Doga can greatly aid in increasing flexibility for not only you but for your dog too! When correctly performing Doga and traditional Yoga poses your body enters into positions that it rarely finds itself in. Because of such, joints and muscles that are infrequently used are exercised and acted upon resulting in increased strength and greater flexibility in these joints that are infrequently used.

Here's something you may not about Doga; when Doga positions are properly performed the lubrication to the joints, tendons and ligaments in your body and your dog's body is increased. Because Doga positions cause both your body and your dogs body to enter into positions that are unfamiliar, joints, tendons and ligaments which have infrequent use are forced to be lubricated thus causing increased fluidity and reduced joint pain.

Did you know that with Doga, bodies that are very rigid often become very smooth and flexible even when not all parts of the body are intentionally exercised or stretched? This is the case for both you and your dog. Many dogs experience joint problems as they increase in age, Doga can aid in the prevention or treatment of your dog's joint problems.

Here's a reason to grab your dog and do some doga; both humans and dogs who introduce doga poses to their regular schedule often find that their sleep patterns are improved. Doga poses lend themselves to the improvement of meditation and relaxation. These principles can be introduced to a sleeping cycle creating better patterns of sleep.

Here's a reason to grab your dog and do some doga; introducing a doga routine to your regular schedule can aid in sexual activity. Doga poses along with the meditation and relaxation suggested when properly performing the poses can lead to better sexual control, endurance and satisfaction in the bedroom.

Here's something you may not know about Doga; Doga can assist in the reduction of hypertension. Hypertension, commonly referred to as "high blood pressure," heightens your chances of heart disease, stroke or many other serious medical issues. Incorporating a Doga routine into your life can help to prevent hypertension and the problems it can cause.

Here's a reason to grab your dog and do some doga; the poses found in a doga routine have been correlated with the improvement of memory. As individuals adjust their bodies to properly perform the Doga positions blood circulation is improved. With improved blood circulation, more blood is reaching the brain resulting in improved focus which then can result in improved memory.

The gigantic and black-eyed St. Bernard was primarily the Swiss Alps' search and rescue dog. In fact, countless heroic stories can attest to these events and many people have lived to tell their stories about how valiant the St. Bernards are. Today, however, not only is this dog considered as the ultimate hero of the Alps but a loyal and reliable companion of many families as well.

The St. Bernard's ancestors are said to be the Molossoid dog breeds of the ancient Roman soldiers and the Sennenhunds, which are known as the great Swiss Mountain Dogs or Swiss Cattle Dogs. The present St. Bernard, however, is just an inexact remnant of the classic St. Bernard. Most of the original St. Bernards got killed in avalanches trying to rescue humans and so to preserve their breed, Newfoundland dogs were used but this did not quite preserve the outstanding characteristics of the original St. Bernard.

The name St. Bernard came from the hospice at St. Bernard Pass in the Western Alps, a region between Switzerland and Italy. This pass is dangerous and travelers often seek shelter with the monks in this hospice. The dogs of this community, which are used for search and rescue, were named after the pass and this pass was named after Bernard of Menthon, an 11th century monk who founded the place.

Aside from St. Bernard, this breed was also known before as the Saint Dog, Noble Steed, Alpenmastiff and Barry. Barry is also a name of a very famous St. Bernard because of its courageous efforts that saved 40 to 100 people from certain death. Today, the remnant of this dog was preserved at the National History Museum at Berne and a monument was established in his name at the Cimetiere des Chiens.

This massive dog weighs a whooping 160 to 260 pounds and stands at 27 1/2 to 35 1/2 inches in height. The tail of this breed is long, heavy and low and turns up lightly. The eyelids open a little and the face and ears are colored black.

This dog's coat can be smooth or rough and that the smooth coat fairly fits the body and is flat. The rough textured coat is flat and dense especially around the neck and legs. The coat colors for this breed are red with white and mahogany brindle with white.

As a house pet, the St. Bernard is reliable, hardworking and eager to please. It is also understanding and patient with children and if it is properly socialized when small, it can be tolerant with smaller animals too during adulthood. This breed is also not so hard to train because it is intelligent and obedient.

This dog, although large, is not as energetic but instead gentle and affable. It does not need a wide space to live on and so an apartment and a small yard would suffice him. Daily exercise for this dog is only comprised of a long walk and this will make him stay healthy mentally and physically.

Everyone recognizes the St. Bernard as that massive and chinky-eyed rescue dog of the Alps. Many stories surround this breed about its heroic efforts to search and rescue trapped humans during avalanches. But moreover, not only is this dog recognized for this courageous cause but for being a dependable working dog and loyal family pet as well.

This breed is said to have come from the massive ancient Molossoid dog breeds and Sennenhunds, a herding and hunting breed of the Swiss. Today's appearance of the St. Bernard however is not exactly of the classic St. Bernard because there came a point when this breed almost vanished because avalanches swallowed many of the dogs. With the use of the Newfoundland breed the St. Bernard was saved from extinction.

The name of this dog was given by travelers who sought refuge at the hospice at St. Bernard Pass, a treacherous pass in the Western Alps. The travelers saw these massive dogs that were used on many rescue operations and so to identify them, they called them St. Bernards. The breed's and the pass' name was of an 11th century monk named Bernard Menthon who is also the founder of the hospice.

Before being called St. Bernard, this dog was known as Saint Dog, Noble Steed, Alpenmastiff and Barry dog. Additionally, a St. Bernard named Barry became very famous when he rescued 40 to 100 people from certain death. Because of this, he was founded a monument at the Cimetiere des Chiens and his body was preserved and displayed at the National History Museum at Berne.

The St. Bernard weighs heavily at 160 to 260 pounds and towers at 27 1/2 to 35 1/2 inches of height. The tail is long, hanging low and heavy but turns upward slightly. The eyes of this dog are tight lid, masked in color black including some parts of the face and both ears.

The St. Bernard's coat can be smooth or rough. The smooth one is flat and fits fairly to the body while the rough one is flat and dense especially around the neck and legs. The common colors of the coat are red with white and mahogany brindle with white.

The St. Bernard is a dependable household companion as it is hardworking, eager to please, and extremely loyal. It is patient and tolerant with little children and with additional good socialization during puppyhood, it can also be as tolerant to smaller animals. This dog is fairly manageable so long as it is trained early on and it should also help that this dog is intelligent and obedient.

The St. Bernard is not rough nor excessively active but actually very gentle and affable. It is not very active indoors and so an urban type of dwelling would suffice him. To keep his mental and physical health fit, daily walks should be done for this dog.

The desire for healthy, organic food appears to apply just as much to animals as to humans, since a lot of animal owners prefer to buy organic foods to feed man's best friend. One could be forgiven for being surprised at the large amount of organic dog food on offer on the market. Just like for humans, there are a lot of pet illnesses that one could cure or even prevent completely by the use of organic pet food.

For instance, organic dog food could reduce the risk of the dog getting skin diseases and allergies. The explanation for the positive health impact is the absence of additives, chemicals, colourants and pesticides. Instead there are just grain extracts and high quality proteins as ingredients in organic dog food. Organic dog food also contains more nourishment, which is reflected in the higher levels of energy and the normal weight of the dog.

Healthy, organic dog food contains more nutrients, which is reflected in the higher levels of energy and the normal weight of the dog. Furthermore, regular dog food can cause diabetes and excess weight with all the other problems that accompany these illnesses: back ailment, organ failure and decreased mobility. How can organic dog food help here, then? Well, simply because organic pet food does not contain bulk filler; they are nutrient-packed products that create energy not fat. Moreover, it is far better and definitely a lot easier to prevent health issues than try to treat them afterwards.

A more efficient digestion and a stronger immunity system are the other main benefits that come with the feeding of organic pet food. Due to the absence of chemicals normally present in ordinary pet food, your dog will no longer vomit or experience wind or diarrhea. A healthier metabolism is what will result from a healthy diet. Furthermore, the quality of the nutritional substances in organic dog food, boosts the immunity functions, thereby reducing the risks of infection and all sorts of specific diseases that affect dogs on an everyday basis.

Many veterinarian experts claim that organic dog food significantly increases the life span of any animal, not to mention the fact that it will go through old age a lot better. It is quite common that pet owners who choose organic dog food, are also interested in applying the same health rules to their own diet, sticking to clean natural products that enhance bodily functions and avoid toxins and disease.

Ask your dog food provider about organic dog food and if there is none available in your local shop, try to order it online. There are plenty of web sites that offer such foods at fairly good prices.

One last bit, be very, very careful with dried dog food like biscuits, no matter what it says on the packet. A few years ago, I had a dog called Becky that remained at home alone during the day, while I went to work. I didn't like to leave her tinned food, because of flies, bacteria and vermin, so I bought dry food, which would not deteriorate during the day. However, within six years she had gotten diabetes, which meant that I had to inject her with insulin every morning. Sometimes, she would have a fit. The veterinary said that it was very common for dogs fed only on dry biscuits to get diabetes, so check the food with your vet first or feed organic tinned food.

Walking the dog is so last season! Playing fetch with your dog is yesterday's news! Now dog lovers are turning to Doga to get exercise with their dogs! Doga, the very unique act of performing yoga moves with your dog has been bubbling under the surface for years now but recently word has spread and thousands and thousands of dog lovers and yoga enthusiasts are turning to this fun exercise! And perhaps rightly so, it's good for you, it's good for your dog and its fun!

As more and more people hear of Doga, they become anxious to get their dogs as well as themselves in on the fun. Originally this proved to be difficult because individuals had to rely on classes to receive the instruction. Or occasionally and article would be written about Doga but these often acted as teasers only. And classes frequently proved to be just to distracting with so many dogs.

In the summer of 2008 a young woman with a background in Yoga and dancing teamed up with partners to create the first Doga DVD! Amy Stevens and her Yoga4Dogs DVD have been finding their way into homes across the US ever since. "With a DVD" Amy says; "those wishing to perform Doga with their dogs can perform the poses on their own schedule in the comfort of their own homes. It's really the ideal way to make sure you and your dog are both exercising some."

So in addition to strengthening the bond that exists between individuals and their dog, what are some of the benefits to performing Doga? Because many of Doga focus of breathing, it has the potential to improve the breathing patterns and lung capacity. Additionally, Doga can decrease stress levels and help participants to live calmer lives. Doga can also help participants learn to develop deeper concentration.

Among the many benefits of Doga, it has the known to assist in helping individuals slow their heart rate and lower their blood pressure. This is certainly beneficial to those with heart disease or hypertension. Doga, like yoga also has the potential to reduce the symptoms of asthma, arthritis and back and body pain. Some studies even suggest that many traditional yoga poses, like those in Doga routines can assist with insomnia.

Besides offering many benefits for human participants, Doga offers many things to the dogs that are lucky enough to participate in the routine. Doga has the potential to help dogs with weight loss which in turn can help with joint pain, hip dysplasia, heart problems and a variety of other health problems. Doga can help dogs to become more obedient.

Majority of dogs who have had the opportunity to participate in Doga have seemed to really enjoy it. Amy Stevens, host of her own Doga DVD says; "Ginger, my dog, always gets excited when she can see I'm getting ready for a Doga workout." Amy goes on; "besides all of the health benefits, I think Ginger just likes the attention!"

Introduce your dog to an exercise routine unlike any other with Doga! Classes are held in select cities across America and Amy Stevens' Yoga4Dogs Doga DVD is available at the Yoga4Dogs website.

Organic shampoos are great for your pets as well as for you. Just like humans, your pet can develop skin irritation and allergies. The source can be caused by dust mites, dry skin, bugs, however, the majority of the time skin irritation is caused by chemicals in pet shampoo. You will do you pet a favor by switching to organic dog shampoo.

Natural dog shampoos come in a variety of scents. All of the scents are derived from natural compounds. Many scents come from citrus fruits and you can also find natural scents from aloe vera, jasmine, coconut and other essential oils.

The benefits of organic shampoo outweigh the cost. Moreover, the cost of organic dog shampoo is not that different compared to regular dog hair care. Some of the dog hair care products cost as much as natural shampoo for humans. However, there are many varieties of shampoo and you will not held prisoner to one type of shampoo.

The benefits of using organic shampoo for your pet are that it provides a less harmful way to clean your pet. All organic dog shampoos are much milder than industrial shampoo. Dog's skin and hair can be affected the same way as human skin. The harsher the product, the easier it is for your dog to be damaged. You will be able to bathe your dog more often and give the attention that your pet needs.

If you have no idea what type of shampoo is right for your pet; you should try talking to a veterinarian for advice on the best organic dog shampoo. Also, while you are at the vet, you should perform a skin test so that you know what type of plants irritate your pet's skin. This way you can determine which organic product is suitable for your dog.

Having a Parrot is not as easy as just teaching it to talk or feeding it. You also need to realize this will take time, money and patience too. It is a big responsibility.

Parrots can live as long as a human. With the right effort and care buying a baby parrot can be well worth it. Think hard about it though it is a big responsibility, weigh up the positives and negatives. If it is still yes then go to a parrot breeder to buy your baby parrot.

Although most breeders go out of their way to make sure you know everything you need to know about your new parrot, beware as there are some unscrupulous breeders out there. Parrot breeders that are only in the trade for money usually don't raise their parrot babies with the same level of care and love as a good parrot breeder especially one who hand rears and feeds their baby parrots. Ask around and do some research to lessen the odds of dealing with unscrupulous parrot breeders.

When you buy your parrot there are several things to check out and verify first. Like the parrots age which can be verified on its leg band. Also, another really important thing to know is if your parrot was raised and fed by hand. A good indicator is if the parrot will take food from your hand.

The best parrot breeders raise their parrots by hand feeding them so they are happy, healthy, well adjusted loving birds. Obviously a hand fed parrot will command a higher price. Some breeders cut corners and do not hand feed their baby parrots, yet they might claim they have. You will notice the difference.

Good breeders are poles apart from those who are not. They will answer your questions and show you how they raise and hand feed their parrots. They will usually show you their aviaries too. The affection they have for their baby parrots will be self evident.

Parrots are highly intelligent birds that will certainly attract the eye and become the focus of attention in any room. It is so important to know about parrot care as it can mean the difference between having a relationship that is fulfilling and having a problem child with the terrible twos to deal with.

As a member of your family your parrot will require effort on your part to learn how to train them and make them a part of the family without which you may find this could become difficult.

Putting your parrot in its cage when you get home from the parrot breeder is only the start as tempting as it may be to think otherwise. You need to handle your parrot correctly and spot signs of boredom, upset, irritability and stress. Otherwise you are in for a rough time. By learning this you will have many happy years together simply because you put in the hard work up front.

Parrot care including diet and exercise will lead to a long life as your parrot could live 20, 30 or more years. Noticing what your parrot does when it is happy and healthy will hold you in great stead if you notice any changes such as lethargy, loss of appetite, discharge from eyes or diarrhea. These are symptoms you need to bring to the attention of your avian vet. Get to know and pay attention to your parrots well being.

Help your parrot live a long time. The more immediate your detection of anything being wrong and getting it treated, the better.

The benefits or organic shampoo can be passed on to your pets. Animals can develop skin irritation from harsh dog shampoos. Your pet will appreciate your kindness by switching a gentle organic dog shampoo.

Natural dog shampoos come in a variety of scents. All of the scents are derived from natural compounds. Many scents come from citrus fruits and you can also find natural scents from aloe vera, jasmine, coconut and other essential oils.

Another similarity is the cost of the shampoo. Organic dog hair care shampoo has virtually the same cost as regular dog shampoo. There are many different types of shampoo to choose from and the important factor is that you have an assortment of products to best fit your dog's beauty. Not all hair care products are the same and the same goes for your dog's skin. Even though organic products are better and milder than traditional shampoos; they can still make your dog's skin break out into a rash. This might be caused by your dog being allergic to specific ingredients in the shampoo. However, since all ingredients are natural, the skin irritation is probably due to an allergy from a plant.

Sometimes dog shampoo can irritate your pet's skin. The reason may be that your dog is allergic to some of the essential oils that are contained in the product. The important factor is that the ingredients are not harmful to your pet.

Lastly, make sure that the shampoo is recognized by the USDA for being 100% organic and that it meets the organic food standards. Although there might not be anything wrong with an unaccredited shampoo, are you not willing to give the best organic shampoo to your pet?

The benefits or organic shampoo can be passed on to your pets. Animals can develop skin irritation from harsh dog shampoos. Your pet will appreciate your kindness by switching a gentle organic dog shampoo.

Organic pet shampoo comes in different scents and even though this product is targeted to a niche audience, there is still enough variety to choose the right scent for your pet. Most scents come from citrus fruits and your pet will also enjoy the natural scents of aloe vera, jasmine, coconut oil as well as many other natural smells. Shampoos come in different prices and brands. Some are just as expensive as natural shampoo for humans. The key point is that you're not going to be limited to selection when it comes to choosing the right product for your pet.

If you are confused on what type of natural shampoo treatment is best for you dog, go see your local veterinarian for recommendations. Also, it is recommended that you test your dog's skin for food allergies. That way, you can determine which shampoo works well for your dog without irritating its skin.

Lastly, make sure that the shampoo is recognized by the USDA for being 100% organic and that it meets the organic food standards. Although there might not be anything wrong with an unaccredited shampoo, are you not willing to give the best organic shampoo to your pet?
