If you are getting ready to purchase a guinea pig cage, there are some things that you want to keep in mind. Your guinea pig will spend a great deal of time in his cage. Therefore you want to make sure he has plenty of space. Following are some other tips purchasing a guinea pig cage.
One of the most important things is size. Your guinea pig will need approximately 6 ft. at the minimum. And even if that, you want to let him out to run for exercise some at least each day.
Okay now we know how big the cage should be, let's talk about the structure of the cage. never use a fish aquarium for your guinea pig. It is very important that the guinea pig fresh air, so you want to be sure to find a cage that has wire sides, so that air can circulate freely.
The top of the guinea pigs cage should also be wire. You do not want the cage to be open especially if you have other pets in the home. Guinea pigs do not climb, but you'll want to keep other hazards out of the cage.
Now, for the bottom, you do not wire. This will make it difficult for your guinea pig to walk on it may hurt his feet. Ideally, the bottom should be a smooth plastic material that is washable. Wood is not recommended as it will absorb water, and will begin to have an odor over time.
If you shop in a place like PetSmart, you'll find a great assortment of guinea pig cages to meet all of these criteria. The national chain pet stores have done research and know what is best for each type of animal, and carry the best supplies for them.
Just as important as choosing the cage, is deciding upon a place to put the cage in your home. It's best not to leave the cage on the floor where there may be drafts. If positioning the cage on a table or counter, be sure there is plenty of room for the entire base.
We have discussed all of the things that you need to keep in mind when purchasing your first guinea pig cage. All of these guidelines will help you to pick just the right one, and you'll be well on your way to a happy healthy guinea pig.

Its critical to seek immediate veterinary treatment when you notice the signs of a problem kidney in a cat. The earlier your cat gets treatment the more chances she has for a longer life with you. While chronic renal failure arrives over a long period of time, acute kidney failure is an emergency. Here's some tips to recognizing the symptoms of kidney failure in cats.
Feline kidneys are vulnerable to a number of life-threatening disorders that can lead to a failing kidney in a cat or chronic renal failure. Your vet would probably agree with the statistics that they see more cats 7 years and older that are showing signs of kidney failure in cats.
The risk for feline kidney disease may be inherited. Some long-haired breeds like Angoras and Persians and short-haired cats like the Abyssinian are more genetically predisposed to kidney problems, either acute or chronic renal failure.
The main difference between chronic and acute kidney failure in cats is that acute renal failure is a very severe situation that occurs relatively suddenly - over a week or a month. Chronic renal failure creeps up on your cat over a longer time, years even.
The most common cause of kidney failure in cats occurs when your cat swallows a toxic substance like antifreeze, pesticides, cleaning fluids and human medications. Common causes of acute renal failure include blockages that prevent a good flow of blood to the kidney in a cat or stones and inflammations blocking the flow of urine from the kidney into the bladder.
Signs Of Kidney Failure In Cats
Occasional vomiting Increase in water consumption Increase in urination Weight loss Loss of appetite
Your vet may refer to some of these symptoms with the terms "polydipsia" or "polyuria". Polydipsia means that your cat is drinking a lot of water - lots of it. On the other end, In fact, you this may be the first sign your recognize of a problem kidney in a cat. When you clean the litter box you find numerous pee-balls of cat litter, or unusually large ones.
If your vet suspects kidney failure in a cat she will evaluate your cat's BUN. BUN stands for blood urea nitrogen, as well as the creatinine levels. When these are elevated it means your cat's kidneys aren't working right and need extra help.
Traditionally, treating renal failure in cats is determined by the disorder causing the condition. If acute kidney failure is caused by a urinary tract blockage the stone must be removed immediately. Treating chronic renal failure is done with a more conservative approach. This may include intravenous fluid therapy and changes to diet.

This information has been created to aid you in recognizing a number of symptoms that pertain to Guinea Pig Health. It's not intended to substitute the advice of your veterinary. If you think that your pet is ill or injured please seek the help of your resident licensed vet. The best medicine is always prevention. This is your key to success. Be prepared to give your Guinea Pig the proper diet, exercise and daily attention, and the result will be good Guinea Pig health.
I must mention that most guinea pigs are not fond of bathing (much like their feline friends cats). Only when it becomes absolutely necessary should you subject them to the stress of immersing them in water. A clean and sanitary living space free of feces, urine and unwanted food will add years to your guinea pigs health. Spot clean the litter material daily and disinfect the entire cage once every ten days.
Guinea Pigs or (Cavy's) are more susceptible to disease and injuries compared to other pets. One Idea for this is the size of the homes, in comparison to say that of a cat or dog for example. To stay on top of your Guinea pigs health, you will need to examine him from day to day for signs of illness and wounds.
Frequent sneezing and sniffling. The bedding material in the cage can cause allergies. Often times new places and objects like plants, carpet and even the fibers on your sofa may be to blame. Substitute the bedding and stay clear of suspect areas. Constant nose irritation is a sign to make a Vet visit.
Coughing or gasping. When your guinea pig has difficulty breathing and is coughing or wheezing, a respiratory infection may be to blame. Seek immediate attention from a Vet as these disorders can quickly become fatal.
Watery or cloudy eyes. Small particles like, dust, dirt and pollen can affect the eyes adversely and cause tears to form. A liquid solution from your Vet or local pet store can be used safely to flush out the irritants. If trouble persists see your Veterinarian.
Excessive hair loss. Normally when a guinea pig gets a minor cut or is bitten, the hair around the wound will fall out. This is a natural process of guinea pig health. The discovery of bigger bald spots is cause for alarm. Lice, mites, fleas and other parasites including ringworm can be the source of the trouble. Consult your Vet and remedy the problem before it gets out of hand.
Diarrhea. If you learn your Cavy has diarrhea, you need to fix this trouble right away. An overabundance of fruit and vegetables may be to blame. If left Alone this can destroy your pet quickly! Insert a little lactobacillus acidophiles, in capsule form from your health food store or pharmacy.
Red pink or dark colored urine. Blood coming from the urinary tract is a grave condition. Consult your Vet immediately.
Scratching and itching. Parasites and fungus can invade your pet without warning. Examine your Guinea Pig's coat frequently. You can obtain a medicated hair shampoo that fights most parasites and fungal infestations from your Vet or local pet shop. If the trouble remains look up your Vet.
Convulsions and tilting the head. A dangerous condition that requires immediate examination by a qualified Vet. Severe and painful ear infections lead to these symptoms. Wounds caused from parasites have been linked to brain and nervous system abnormalities. Symptoms such as body curling, shaking, stiffness and erratic behavior can result from parasites.
In Conclusion. The most significant aspect of bringing up a healthy Guinea Pig and the key to sustaining the life of your little fur ball is by keeping his/her cage clean. Change the litter material regularly and sanitize the cage frequently. Doing this will prevent some of the unfortunate symptoms discussed in this report and ensure good guinea pig health!

The Golden Angelfish (centropyge Aurantia) is a stunning dwarf angelfish that commands a high price and is fairly difficult to find. The golden angelfish is a difficult angel to keep alive and should only be attempted by those that can properly see to its needs. Normally listed under "experts only", if you're looking for a relatively hardy dwarf angel like the Flame Angelfish, stop reading. If you still want to try a golden angelfish then read on.
The golden angelfish is a stunning red/bronze all over its body with vertical stripes on its sides. They are collected from Palau, New Guinea and especially around Indonesia where they are most common.
They are a deep water species in the wild that can be found living at depths as deep as 180 feet. They cost around $80 to $100 USD and they are hard to find. Hobbyists usually snap them up quickly if any are for sale. This is a deep water angelfish so look for any swim bladder damage. The fish should be able to maintain a leveled buoyancy and should not be tilting inexplicably.
Like most of its deep water brethren, the golden angelfish is a painfully shy fish that does not do well in tanks with too much activity or when housed with very aggressive tank mates. Despite its passive nature, they do not get along with conspecifics. Two dwarf angelfish will fight in an aquarium.
The golden angelfish needs large tanks with plenty of live rock to do well. Provide plenty of shaded areas and caves for shelter. It spends most of its time within shaded areas and is rarely seen out of such areas at all. Nothing smaller than an established 75 gallon aquarium for the golden angelfish. Aim for 150 gallons or larger aquariums. Since there is very little light at the depths it lives at, it must be given time to properly adapt to aquarium lighting conditions.
This is one area where things get pretty tough. It is very difficult to feed a golden angelfish simply because it is so shy. You cannot feed what you cannot see. If you cannot get it to accept prepared foods, it will simply feed off your live rock. This is the reason i recommended large established aquariums with plenty of live rock. They will need enough live rock for food or suffer a slow starvation.
This next part assumes it is accepting prepared foods :-
In the wild, dwarf angelfish are all grazers. They constantly scan the rock for food items throughout the day, much like surgeonfish. They feed on detritus, tiny crustaceans and a wide variety of algae.
They should be given a balanced diet in a saltwater aquarium. They should be fed a wide range of foods for variety. Feeding them a specific food for too long can be detrimental to their health. Although there are some hobbyists that feed them new life spectrum pellets for prolonged periods of time with no ill effects. They were all very healthy in fact.
A good pellet like those by New ife Spectrum should be offered along with algae/nori sheets plus a balanced frozen food (Formula One, Formula Two).
A very good food for dwarf angels is the Pygmy Angel Formula, produced by Ocean Nutrition. Ingredients such as kelp, krill, squid, squid, vitamins and minerals and much more are used in this frozen food. All these ingredients are mixed up, frozen, then formed into cubes. Unfortunately Pygmy Angel Formula is only available in frozen form.
I don't like feeding brine shrimp as they don't offer much nutritionally. Frozen adult brine shrimp contain mostly roughage, which is nothing more than fiber. Foods that are far superior like krill or mysis shrimp also have fiber.
Should you insist on feeding your dwarf angelfish brine shrimp, choose a type that has been enriched beforehand. Enriched artemia that were fed a nutritious food prior to freezing are known as enriched brine shrimp. They are used as vessels housing nutrition.
Newly hatched brine shrimp are also quite nutritious, as long as their yolk sacs are still in place. They turn back into garbage once their yolk sacs have been used up.

The Mandarin Dragonet (Synchiropus Splendidus) are one of the most breathtaking fishes found in the hobby. Its entire body is made up of blue, orange and green alternating line. They commonly go by the name, mandarin goby, despite not being a true goby at all. The mandarin dragonet is its true name.
The mandarin dragonet is heavily collected from the Indo-Pacific. Despite its common appearance at marine pet stores all over the world, it has an abysmal survival rate in our aquariums. I will address this problem later in the article.
They are a very peaceful fish. They are aggressive only towards other members of the genus such as the scooter dragonets. If you're interested in a pair of mandarin dragonets, buy a female and a male (elongated first dorsal spine) and introduce them together in the tank.
Mandarins can grow as long as 4 inches. Technically, they require a tank no smaller than 30 gallons, that is, if they're feeding. Getting them to eat prepared foods is a real challenge. This is because they only feed on live copepods. Therefore, it is my recommendation that the minimum sized tank for these beautiful fish be no less than a well established 75 gallon tank with plenty of copepods. You'll never have to feed them in an established tank that large. The tank will feed it so to speak, with its copepod populations.
You can also train them to eat prepared foods.First, you need adult live brine shrimp. They are receptive to live brine shrimp so getting them to eat it is a task that will take care of itself. Next, introduce some frozen artemia with the live ones during your next feeding. Once they start taking frozen artemia the task is half done. Since brine shrimp is nutritionally poor, we need to get to feed on something like mysis shrimp or krill.
As before, introduce some mysis shrimp with the frozen brine shrimp when you feed them. The deed is done once they start taking mysis shrimp. You should try and get them other foods such as a good pellet and krill.
But wait, there's another problem you will likely face with mandarin dragonets. They are among the slowest eaters you will ever have. It cannot compete with other tank mates for food, its that slow. This problem can be solved in three simple ways. You could blast food into the tank to ensure the mandarin gets some. Or, you can spot feed it with the use of a pipette. Lastly, you can find a plastic soft drink bottle that has a hole only the mandarin can fit through and put some foods there.
Its up to you to choose one or all of these methods.

GPS technology has come a long way in the past few years. It has also become much less expensive. Now the units are affordable for keeping track of pets that may wander away from home. Man's best friend is no longer helpless and lost when he leaves the yard.
Dogs are lost for many reasons. Whatever the reason, it often brings heartache to the families to which the pet belongs. Kids and sometimes Mom and Dad shed tears as a family member has gone missing and no one seems to know where he has gone. Posters with Fido's picture are placed around town and rewards are offered. The sad fact is that many times, Fido is never found. He is left to fend for himself, and may die due to hunger, injury or disease. Until now, with a GPS dog collar. With the touch of a button you can find Fido and bring him home again.
The idea is very easy; all you have to do is to attach a GPS receiver to your dog's collar. When the dog turns up missing, you activate the GPS system installed to your cell phone. The system sends a simple SMS to the dog GPS receiver through the mobile network. The dog's SIM card located on the receiver sends back the pup's location information to your cell phone. This process takes only seconds to complete. And even more, you can set a parameter in the GPS system settings, when the dog crosses that parameter, you get alerted.
There are two types of this kind of GPS systems. The first is bought with an expensive upfront cost but with no monthly fees. The second is with a cheap upfront cost but requires monthly fees. The cheap system only notifies you when the dog is far away.
You will find these devices available in many differing brand names. This allows you to choose the system that works best for you and fits in your budget.
There are many brand names and companies selling these devices. That is a good thing as customers will have the option to choose the best deal available that they can afford and suits them the best. The thing is there are two parties involved in developing and providing customers with the dog tracking systems.
Before purchasing a GPS dog collar, here are some factors to consider. The weight of the GPS unit should not hinder the dog since he or she will be wearing the unit at all times. It should be compact enough that the dog cannot reach the unit to chew on it rendering it useless. The accuracy of the unit is also very important since it will lead you to your dog.
We love our pets and treat them as part of the family. Why not make the investment to be sure that they are always safe and will be safely found.

In 17th century, the Gypsies and tinkers are well-known to have with them in their travels a dog that's dependable and amusing. This dog is called a Lurcher and it is not a breed but rather just a type of dog. This dog resulted from the crossbreeding of several sightsounds with Greyhound, Terrier or Collie.
During this century, the Lurcher is most known as a hare, rabbit or other small animals poacher. In fact, its name is derived from the Roman word lur, which means "thief". Today, however, the Lurcher is best known as a dependable and fun-loving pet.
Usually, a Lurcher is made up of three fourths sighthound but this also varies depending on the way of breeding. The most common combination of the Lurcher, however, are Greyhound/Collie and Greyhound/Terrier. The most favored size and form of the Lurcher today is similar to a Greyhound.
Since there is no set type for the Lurcher, this dog can then grow as little as a Whippet or as big as a Deerhound. This dog's coat can be like the Greyhound which is short and smooth, longer and thicker like the Collie, or rough and broken like the Terrier. Gypsies, however, are said to have loved the short-haired Lurcher most.
The Lurcher has a smooth undercoat which thickens in the winter season and can be a heavy or light shedder depending on its inherited traits. The legs of this creature are long and straight, and the chest is deep that provides better lung capacity for endurance. There is no set color for this dog because it varies greatly according to the sighthound with which it was crossed.
There is no fixed temperament for the Lurcher too because it also varies depending on breeds used for crossing. Some Lurchers may have temperaments similar to a Greyhound and there are some that have temperaments like that of the herding breeds or terrier breeds. Most Lurchers, however, possess strong hunting instincts that they got mostly from the sighthhounds.
This dog loves to have fun, loves to be surrounded by loving people and likes to be affectionate itself. It is a docile dog that learns commands quickly and trains highly, too. This creature is very energetic therefore it will appreciate being taken in by a family that shares its love for activities.
Being confined in an apartment will not suit the Lurcher because it needs to be outside and be active often. It needs daily walks and running everyday that's why a house with a wide yard is ideal. This dog will always want to chase and catch small animals and run freely so keep him in a fenced area all the time.

Do you know what a dog GPS is? Are you willing to learn about a system that will allow you monitor your dog 24 hours every day so that your dog can no longer go out of sight? No more fear of losing your dog, and you have the assurance of recovering it even when it is stolen. Just read on and know more about it.
GPS when expanded reads Global Positioning System. The dog GPS is a system that is electronically designed to monitor the movement of dogs. Many dog owners have faced the challenge of losing their dog or the dog may come back home late. You can easily locate the where about of your dog with the electronic tracker. The dog GPS consists of two parts; the GPS collar that is usually fastened to the dog, and a receiver that displays information for the dog parent or owner. There are various types of dog trackers in different sizes and prices. The Dog GPS produced earlier are bulky but more recent ones are lighter and portable.
Modern dog trackers have different mechanisms of operation. In some types, information or alerts sent from the collar attached to the dog are transmitted to the dog owner through GSM, fax or e-mail. In many others, a separate screen held by the dog owner displays information.
The Dog GPS has many advantages over the manual tracker, which was in use earlier. The manual tracker consists of a collar containing some vital information like, dog name, owner's name, and the contact information. In situations where, a particular dog strays to areas that people cannot see it, the manual tracker is no longer useful.
The dog GPS will send alerts indicating the geographical location of the dog. When your dog goes astray beyond the stipulated boundary, the alerts will enable you to know on time. You can then follow the data to track the direction of the dog. You now know where to go and find your dog.
The dog GPS also allows you to know the places your dog visited when it comes back. This is interesting, as it will give you information on the activities of your dog. Dogs could display certain habits such as visiting a particular place more often. Dogs do this either in connection with food availability or a companion dog is present.
The Garmin is an example of Dog GPS. It is designed in such a way that it does not need GSM to work. It can work anywhere on earth and in places which do not have GSM coverage. It does not also require monthly payment or additional communication fees. Some have special advantages. With Some you can set up a GPS fence which makes the device to produce audible alarm whenever your dog goes beyond the defined perimeter. It includes an LCD screen which displays information about your dog's location, direction and velocity. It does not require installation and it can track up to three dogs at a time.
The Gamin Astro dog GPS is another example. This one works differently from the Romeo tracker in that information from the dog to the dog owner is transmitted through radio signals. It is made up of a transmitter, the part attached to the dog (also called CD 20) and a portable colour screen GPS device which is held by hand. Firstly, the system has to be activated. This is done by taking them out doors and turning them on to acquire satellite signals. You can now attach the transmitter to your dog. This device can monitor as many as 10 dogs at a time.
The GPS technology has found application not only in tracking of dogs; it can also be used to track vehicles, animals and human beings including children.
