It is very frustrating when a dog doesn't respond to the come command. I hate it when he stands there just looking at me. In fact it's even dangerous with cars running by and children playing around. At time he just wanders of, or chases a squirrel and I have no means of controlling him. I know I shouldn't take him off leash until he obeys the command perfectly, but how will I know if that moment has arrived when I never let him off the leash?
I did some research on the internet. I found many tricks and I tried them all, without much success.
So I tried lying down on the cold and wet ground in an effort to get him to come. It actually worked the first couple of times and I used every occasion to put him straight on the leash. Big mistake. He knows now that the leash is his "reward" for listening.
I tried running the other way. Initially this worked well, but again, as I always put the leash on him he stopped coming. Besides I looked rather silly when running away from my dog like a madman. Someone actually thought I had a drinking problem.
I used to get furious when my dog wouldn't come when called. At times I was so frustrated that I would punish him when he finally arrived, which is the worst thing one can do.
It was time for a change. I decided that I should start training him the right way. Since then, in just two little 15 minute daily training sessions he has made a lot of progress. I make sure I reward him instead of punishing him and I don't leash him every time he comes.
The funny thing is, we get along much better these days. I give him a treat randomly for showing up when he's called for. I found out that I just needed to invest some time and use the correct reward system to motivate him.

If your dog is not listening to your commands, may be your training is not the cause. It could be that your dog has an alpha personality and he is challenging your position as a leader. Learning how to manage the alpha dog may take time but is worthwhile in order to establish a lasting and caring relationship.
What is an alpha dog? In any dog or wolf pack, the leaders are known as alphas. There are two alphas, an alpha male and an alpha female. They tend to be the most aggressive and dominant and the other dogs follow their lead. All animals within that pack know their position relative to the other dogs.
The position any animal in the pack establishes everything from eating order to the right to mate. In a dog pack, the alpha female is the one who has the puppies and all other females take care of the puppies. In a wild canine pack, the more dominant dogs eat first and the less dominant dogs eat after them.
A human family becomes the surrogate pack for a dog. Therefore, a dog will take a position within the family pack. If a dog is less dominant he will be easier to discipline and will be more inclined to allow you to take the lead. If the dog is an alpha however, he may try to challenge your position as leader of the pack. Keep in mind that if you're female, a male alpha dog may take more work than a female dog. This is because even if you show alpha behavior, he still may think he should lead, just because he is male.
Because canine behavior is so deeply ingrained, you may want to train your dog taking this into account. You can educate him much quicker by communicating in his language. This does not mean you need to learn how to bark or replicate animal behavior, it simply means that you combine dog communication with standard obedience techniques.
Feed your dog last since lowest pack members eat last. Feeding the dog teaches it that it must please you in order to earn its meals. Lastly, petting it on top of the head shows that you are in charge because that is what a dominant dog does to other dogs lower in the hierarchy of the pack. You can also teach your dog to shake a paw. Submissive dogs will raise their paws and stroke the air to show they understand they are less important. And last but not least, teach your dog to roll onto its back so that it is forced to show its throat and belly to you. That is the most submissive gesture a canine can make.
By combining these tricks, you may find that your dog relaxes and accepts that you are in charge of the pack. Hopefully this starts a new era with your companion, now he listens and obeys you.

The absolute easiest way to stop your dog from begging food of the table is to never ever give him any food from the table. The second easiest way is to examine why he is doing so and then address the problem. There can be dietary issues in play when it comes to food begging, but usually it's because he's got food that way before and he simply likes to get some more.
Check his diet and make sure that your dog is eats enough proteins in order to stay well. Avoid food with the word "byproduct" on the label. If you do give him this kind of food, chances are that he is receiving too much wheat and not enough protein. Changing his food to a higher protein based dog food may help solve the problem. This applies to grass and fecal eating as well.
Many people let their dog lick the plates clean. You can train your dog to be the best dishwasher in town without ever coming close the table. When you sit down to eat, everyone in the family has to agree that the dog needs to stay elsewhere. Agree on the restricted area as a family so that you can enforce the new rule as a family.
Delimit the area where you eat and make it off limits for your dog. Every time he enters the room and crosses the line you will have to stand up and use the command for "back" or "out" while using your body to block further entry. It is best if each family member takes a turn so that your dog knows that everyone is serious about this issue.
Every time your dog breaks in to the restricted area one of the family members walks toward the dog and executes the "back" command. Once the dog is back beyond the boundaries he can be rewarded usually with a simple pat on the head. Every time he tries to follow you into the eating area, you simply repeat the command.
If your consequent, he'll quickly learn that it makes no sense to beg food from the table. Until he has learned this routine and also obeys voice commands, each person in the family will need to practice this routine with him.
I don't recommend you to feed your dog any type of table scraps. However, most of us do. If you really want to stop your dog from begging of the table, you need to be sure no one gives him anything while your eating. One exception will ruin weeks of training and will worsen begging behaviour.

Excessive barking can be quite annoying. If you are experiencing neighbors that have dogs that bark all night, talk to them about it. Excessive barking can keep a person up all night. And that is never good. Loss of sleep inhibits work performance. If you own a dog that will not stop barking so much, do something about it. Do not ignore it. It might become worse.
Certain breeds automatically bark a lot, more than other dogs. For example, Chihuahuas are famous for their excessive barking. They bark at the bigger dogs, at strangers, at cars passing by. They are just a breed that bark more than what is considered a normal amount of barking. If you have a Chihuahua, you might consider keeping him inside and away from the windows at night.
Excessive barking may be an indication that its emotional or physical needs are not being met. If too cold, a dog will bark. When it is too hot, a dog may bark. Always make sure that your dog's thermal level is comfortable. Barking is its way of communicating to you that he is not happy. He will expect you, the owner to do something about it.
If he is not given sufficient food or water, he will bark. Barking is his way of getting your attention. Check and fill his doggy bowls on a regular basis.
Keep your dog healthy. It is important to talk with people that know dogs. Talk with your veterinarian or professional dog trainers of any concerns you have with your dog. It is important to find out what is causing the barking and find a way to limit the barking. Dogs bark. It is a natural thing for a dog to bark. But too much barking can be a problem.
With our busy schedules, it is easy to forget about our four legged friend. But remember that he needs love, mental, emotional, and physical stimulation as well. Taking him for a walk regularly is a great way to reduce barking level at night. He will be tired from the calories he has burned
If you cannot take care of the problem on our own, consult with an expert. They will be able to help you handle the problem. But it is important that you have the problem taken care of. If it becomes worse, you will not have a happy dog. And you will not be a happy owner. And your neighbors will not be happy either.

As a dog owner, you have the duty to train your dog and teach him new things. A trained dog is always happy, because he knows how to make you trust him. Love alone isn't enough for the health and well being of your pet. He needs to understand your commands and be part of a team. Your dog will be happier if you treat him as your partner. Dog training is about establishing a strong relationship between you and your pet, a relationship based on trust and not on competition.
Your dog will never be part of your family if you don't train him. Although training can be done at any age, the best is to do it when your dog is still a puppy, in his first months of life. This will help him understand you better.
Dogs have their own language. If you learn the meaning of your dog gestures, it will be much easier to know what he has to tell you. Although they can not speak, dogs have unique ways of telling us what they expect. Communicating with your dog properly is extremely important. For example, when you talk to your dog and he barks, it means that he wants something from you. If are able to listen carefully and understand him, the changes to have a strong relationship with him will increase greatly.
Start by learning more about your dog's gestures and behavior. When the dog holds his head high and his neck arched, it means that he wants to show his superiority. The leaning of a dog's head to the right or to the left expresses curiosity and interest. When he is obedient, he holds his head down.
A simple tail wag means excitement, playfulness and self-confidence. However, it also expresses anxiety, reassurance, submissive placation and reconciliation after an aggressive interaction. When the tail is held high, your dog is suspicious and ready to attack. Fast wags of the tail express happiness and excitement. A slow wag of the tail is a sign of uncertainty.
The way in which your dog holds his ears expresses the dog's level of attention. If your dog is very attentive and focused, he holds his ears erect facing forward. When he holds his ears laid back, he is scared. Some dogs can't use their ears to transmit clear signals, because they have drop ears.
Pets begin to socialize from their first days of life. It is recommended for a pet to spend at least 8 weeks with his mother, in order to learn what obedience is. But once he is adopted by a human family, the socialization process must continue. Expose the pet gradually to external stimuli. Help him get used with all family members. Allow your puppy to interact with children and mature dogs. Socializing will be more intense if you begin to walk the dog in the park where he has the possibility to interact with people and new situations.
To have a beautiful and long lasting relationship with your dog, it's necessary to train him. Don't treat the dog like an object! Make him feel loved even when you don't agree with his actions. In general, a dog must learn some basic commands: "Come here", "Sit", "Lay down", "Wait", etc. It's very important not to punish your dog when he refuses to listen to you. During the training session, you and your dog are a team, so you shouldn't compete with him. Never forget that dog training must be fun both for you and your dog,

When you bought your new Boston Terrier you may not have realized what it would entail. There is dog walking, periodic feedings, and lastly the dreaded Boston Terrier puppy training. Thankfully, this particular breed is one of the easiest trained dogs available. They are highly intelligent and have the uncanny ability to pick up on the moods of those around them.
An important thing to remember about this breed is that you need to practice socialization from the moment that they come home. These dogs can become very hostile around people if they are not used to being around a crowd. The more you introduce them to new people the friendlier they will be.
Training your puppy should start immediately. The best tip that anyone can be given is to be stable. You need to teach them certain commands and stick with the very same commands each time you train them. They are creatures of habit and will quickly get confused if you are all over the place with your instructions.
Training your puppy
Puppy training can seem frustrating at times, but you need to be patient if you want your puppy to listen. If you get easily angered or fed up you will surely upset your new pet. Staying calm is the best way to get the training to work. The next thing that you need to do is choose the methods of training that you are going to use. There are several kinds to be considered with each one offering something different.
Crate training: This type of training is the best way to house train your new Boston Terrier puppy. You will need to find a crate that is big enough for your puppy to stand in and move a bit, but not large enough that the dog can comfortably use a corner without having to lay in it. Take the dog out to use the bathroom before placing them in the crate. Make the puppy completely comfortable while in the crate. Leave your dog there in gradually increasing increments until they are able to stay there during the night without stress. The moment you take the dog out you should go outside. Eventually, they will learn that the only place they go is in the great outdoors.
Obedience training: This is the most important training since it is so important that your dog listens to what you say. By using words like good and bad when your dog follows commands you will teach them right and wrong. When they do follow your instructions, and be ready with a healthy treat to encourage them to keep up the good work.
Behavior modification: Having a dog that jumps all over people or barks all of the time is miserable and can even be embarrassing at times. Behavior modification is the most effective Boston Terrier puppy training there is to control how your dog is acting. You can do this much similar to the obedience training including the treats and rewards.
Training your new Boston Terrier puppy is not difficult providing that you stick with the exact same routine each day. It will make the training easier and your puppy will be more well adjusted.
