Dog Training & Puppy Obedience Instructions

Whether or not you choose to train your dog yourself or enlist the help of a professional, you want to make sure that the energy and patience that is required is there. You also want your dog to be taught with love so that your dog achieves the highest outcomes.

Dog training will take time, fortitude and energy. But there is no way to get out of doing it and still have a well-mannered and happy dog. If you can't do it yourself you should probably go ahead and engage a specialist, but do be aware that that alternative will end up costing you quite a bit more cash.

A few items to keep in mind when schooling your dog:

1. Pick up your dog's most desired food. The treat is to reward her whenever she does what you say successfully.

2. How can she know what to do? By voice and hand commands.

3. Choose one sort of training on a daily basis.

When you hire a expert dog trainer as opposed to doing it yourself, the quality and price of training will vary. Also there is a large divergence between training philosophies as some trainers may utilize more forms of physical punishment while others concentrate only on positive rewards. It is up to you to settle on what is best for you and your dog.

While selecting a professional dog trainer you should solicit for advice from folks that you admire and you should also shop around by asking questions and comparing. You may choose a trainer and then change your mind, but be wary of this because most dogs need consistency in order to make positive progress.

Your timetable is critical when it comes to training programs for your dog. Some meet just one time per week, while others may even convene every day. Some plans at kennels require that you leave your dog at the facility for the period of the training phase. As a loving dog owner, you will almost certainly be happiest and have the most success if you and the connection with your own dog is a significant component of the program.

There are "boot-camp" type training plans where your dog stays at a special kennel for a few weeks for the duration of the most thorough training. At the end, the owner comes in and participates in order to make sure that they can deal with the dog as comfortably as the trainer.

A dog will do anything to please you but he needs to clearly realize what you want. You must be the established "alpha dog" and you must be firm and patient and each time follow through. It will not take too long if you are consistent. Your puppy will work hard to delight you if he clearly understands what is expected of him.

How much training your dog requires is dependent upon what you are needing. If you are wanting to enter your dog in shows, of course, he will need much more training than if you are only needing a disciplined and well-mannered member of your family. Training requirements also vary with breed, age and temperament.

In the past couple years there have been well over a dozen different dog food recalls. The dog fod industry has been under a lot of heat as it has become quite clear that commercial dog food is produced with such low quality standards that it has the ability to cause extreme illness in your pooch.

The pet food industry did not just taint themselves, they also caused concern and heartbreak among many dog owners that will never be able to regain the faith that most of us all took for granted with this industry.

Unfortunately many people didn't just see their dog get sick - thousands of dog owners lost their pets because of tainted dog food that they had purchased. It's not surprise that more and more people are starting to look into what exactly goes into commercial dog food.

Beyond tainted dog food, the large dog food companies have always been in the practice of providing food for dogs that is not healthy for our pets to begin with. This has always been a problem and still is today. There are hidden dangers in dog food many of us are not aware of.

The trend recently has been for us humans to eat better. The more nutritious the food is that we consume means we live healthier lives. Paying attention to diet and avoiding foods that have excessive fats and processed sugars, especially in the processed foods we buy, helps us to maintain bodies that are fit and trim.

It's easy not to think the same way when we are choosing out food for our dog. Many people are so used to just grabbing a bag of food whenever they run out. However, food plays just as important of a role in a dog's life.

There are some ingredients in dog food that we should flat out avoid. They are not healthy or reliable in quality for pet consumption. They are also used heavily in the dog food industry by the larger companies.

As an example, corn gluten is a by-product that is found in dog foods. This is used because it is an incredibly cheap filler. However, not only is it an extremely poor source of protein, but it is one of the most common causes of allergies in dogs.

One of the worst ingredients found in commercial dog food is something called 'chicken by-product meal'. This is a combination I hate describing - it's nothing but ground up chickens feets, necks, bones, intestines etc. The companies use it because it's cheap but it has the potential of being toxic or tainted. It sure doesn't do your dog any good!

Soybean meal is an ingredient that is used in order to provide a source of protein. It's cheap and is found in many dog foods. The problem is that soybean is the number one cause of allergies in dogs. It annoys me that they would include an ingredient that they know so many dogs will have a reaction to.

These are only three of the ingredients - there are many more that I could list. However, I'm sure you get the idea. The dog foods on the store shelves have the potential to make your dog very sick.

When you do your research about feeding your dog the right foods, you will be amazed at the changes you see. Your dogs mood, energy levels, skin, bathroom habits and even their behavior will improve. It's amazing what a change in diet will do.

Does this mean that you can't ever use store-bought dog food? Of course not, but you absolutely must know what to look for. We included a link at the bottom of this article where you can find more information.

Once you understand the dangers of certain commercial dog food and which ingredients to avoid, it's incredibly easy to make sure your dog is being fed nothing but the best food possible. Not only will you have the happiest and healthiest dog on the block, but you might just save its life! All the best!

Click Here to find out the dog foods you must avoid and how to keep your dog strong and healthy. It's important to know how to find healthy dog food to make sure your dog lives a long and healthy life!

Training a puppy to accept a collar and leash is probably the single most important thing that you can work on when you start his training. Puppy leash training can begin almost as soon as you get him settled in his new home.

When you train your puppy to become used to a collar and leash, you are establishing the idea that you are in control. This is a really important point for your dog to understand if your training is going to be successful.

As soon as you can get your puppy to live with his collar and lead, you will be able to start focusing on other areas. Here's how to train him to accept his collar and lead.

Be sure to buy a collar that is puppy size. Don't get one that you think he will grow into. If it's too loose he won't keep it on. But on the other hand, it should be big enough that you can adjust it for awhile. The rule of thumb for sizing is that you are able to fit two of your fingers comfortably between the collar and his neck.

At first when you put his collar on he'll need lots of affection and attention to stop him from thinking about the strange thing around his neck. It will take some time for him to get used to it. After he is used to the feel of the collar you will be able to move onto the next step in your training of your puppy. Leash training becomes much easier if you give him time to just get used to wearing his new collar before trying any other training.

Next, attach a short but very light leash to the collar. Make sure the leash is not any more then about three feet. Let your puppy drag the leash around for short periods of time. You want him to get used to how it feels to have something attached to his collar.

Keep a close eye on your puppy while he is wandering around with his lead attached. If he happens to get stuck while you are not around, he may become agitated and frightened. You want him to see how it feels to be restricted for a brief period of time, but you don't want him to become upset when it happens. Quickly free the lead when it gets stuck.

It won't take long before he gets used to the feel of his leash. When this happens, instead of letting the leash drag freely, attach one end of the lead to you. Allow him to explore and get himself stuck like before. But this time, do not go to him to untangle his leash.

Instead try to help him get rid of his distress by crouching down and calling his name. Entice him to get himself unstuck and to come to you by offering some toy or treat. Give him his treat and lots of praise when he does come to you. Be sure to continue with this every day for short periods. After a few successes each day, remove the leash from his collar, but leave his collar on at all times.

When he routinely returns to you when called, your puppy leash training has been a success. You can now move onto the rest of the training program knowing that it will be much easier.

After working with your new puppy teaching him to accept a collar and leash, he will be ready for a rest. Why not provide him with a cozy heated dog bed for inside. Even in summer, he'll find his bed a warm spot in an air conditioned home. For outside, help him keep cool with a coolaroo dog bed. Coolaroo dog beds sit off the ground allowing for air flow underneath.

A positive connection with your pet can be guaranteed by brushing their coat. Another advantage is that your pet's total health improves. If you learn expert dog grooming steps, your dog will keep in good shape.

Time spent fostering your dog ensures that you and your pet will have a strong friendship. This is complimented by the fact that he will be content and fit for most of his lifetime.

The more regularly your dog is groomed, the healthier his coat will look. Clipping and brushing his hair and/or fur will make his coat look sleek and shiny. There's nothing better to give your dog that special healthy gleam.

If a keeper devotes plentiful attention and exhibits fondness, your puppy develops more courage and is proud. Dogs enjoy being neat and primped like people do. Your pet will be happy and demonstrate appreciation if well groomed.

Frequent brushing also helps in improved blood circulation. This is very helpful in avoiding several diseases. Older dogs which cannot get up and walk, need to be paid more attention and if frequently brushed, they feel revitalized and healthier.

By adhering to expert dog grooming steps, you uncover why it is important to follow the right steps when combing their fur. Also, trimming a dog's hair keeps it from matting. Matting looks sloppy and can cause discomfort.

One way to deal with this matted hair is to use a comb or a brush to remove the knots. If the hair is too matted and the knot cannot be removed by combing or brushing, then you need to cut or shave off the matted hair.

Don't wait until your dog's hair is matted or dirty to start grooming. The best way to handle grooming is to make it more of an exercise in fun or play rather than tedium. This is the key, for you don't want to have your puppy associating grooming with unpleasantness. Instead, it should be made as fun as possible and should be another form of affection that will strengthen the bond between owner and dog.

If you'd like to know more about this, then you have to check How To Traing A Dog To Fetch.

There is no doubt that a puppy offers a lot of Johnny to any new household. They will bring in a fantastic level of energy and will be extremely cute to stroke and to play with for all of the members of the family. However, they can also be quite difficult at times as well and can cause a lot of problems and mayhem within the house. As such it might be a good idea for you to instead get an adult dog instead of a puppy. Here are a few tips on rehoming an adult dog.

So what reasons are there and why you should get an adult dog instead of a lovely cute little puppy? Well, the most obvious reason to think awful be because they will be a lot easier to manage than a puppy would be. As said, puppies can be a real pain sometimes, and as such getting an adult dog might be a far better way to integrate a new animal into the family.

Adult dogs have grown out of the high energy craziness that puppies will offer. They are calm and far more easy to deal with. You do not have to be watching them at all times of the day to see if they're going to be eating the furniture and dashing around all the time, but can simply let them get on with it and enjoy life at their own leisure.

The most part adult dogs that you bring into a new home will have already been trained. They would have been trained by their previous owners, and will have kept up their training in kennels or pound that they were staying at. The most part they will also have been neutered, and fully vaccinated. This will help you save money and hassle as the animal begins to get older.

When it comes to actually integrating the new dog into the house, for the most part you should not have any problems. If you have animals already in the home then you will want to allow them to spend some time together so that they get used to each other. They may well start fighting at the beginning, but will gradually start to get to know each other well.

You need to be patient but also clarify the house rules that are set out by you. If your new dog ends up having an accident in the house, they will need to be punished fully. It is possible that they will need to be housebroken again if they have forgotten their training was in kennels, but this should not be too difficult to do.

If you do all this you will soon be able to enjoy all of the attention of your lovely new dog.

Have your pet's most desired food!

At the moment is a good time to be an aspiring dog trainer because of all of the excellent online resources presented on the Internet. There is content accessible on every part of dog training and there is also some excellent data about how to best go about the process of actually training your dog yourself. Most of these online dog-training courses can be downloaded simply to your own computer.

You can start with training your dog immediately. Take a look at the numerous dog-training programs and find the one that you feel the most happy with, then just sign up, download it to your computer, and begin training your dog at once.

You will have to be constant in training your puppy. Your will need to go over commands and tricks that you teach your dog over and over again as repetition is essential for your dog to retain the knowledge long-term. If you do not repeat the commands and tricks until your dog absolutely understands and gets it you will be wasting your time.

Throughout training you will need to repeat things over and over again, however, after your dog is trained he will rarely need extra instructions. He will be well behaved and compliant and easy to take in public, which is what any conscientious pet owner really wants.

Whether or not you choose to train your dog yourself or enlist the aid of a professional, you want to make sure that the energy and patience that is necessary is there. You also want your dog to be trained with love so that your dog achieves the highest outcomes.

If you employ a professional trainer you should make sure that the trainer you pick has philosophies that you agree with and whose training methods make sense to you. Some dog trainers are authoritative and the command respect and obedience, while others may be more loving and permissive with a bigger focus upon the emotional connection between trainer and dog. Both methods can be successful so you need to choose which one feels right to you.

Although there are a range of distinctive training methods and you can pick the one that you think will work for you, there are some constant principles when it comes to dog training. Consistency, patience and persistence and the absolute need for the human to be in the "alpha dog" role are consistent in every good program.

Your timetable is critical when it comes to training programs for your dog. Some convene just one time per week, while others may even convene every day. Some programs at kennels require that you leave your dog at the facility throughout the training phase. As a loving dog owner, you will most likely be happiest and have the most success if you and the relationship with your own dog is a considerable component of the program.

What you don't know could be bad for your dog, causing illness and even death. Most of us don't pay a lot of attention to what we feed our pets, trusting manufacturer labeling to be accurate and regulations to be followed. The truth is that there really aren't very many rules about what can and can't go into dog food.

Unfit For Consumption

Did you know that the average dog food could contain meat from diseased animals, bones, nervous tissues, skin, organs, hair, ligaments, and even spoiled meat and the bodies of other pets?

Even the good meat that ends up in cat and dog food has undergone heavy processing, losing most of the value it once had. Ingredients like "poultry broth" and "animal meal" are far removed from the meat we imagine.

Animal meal, for instance, is what's left after fat and meat have been processed out of a carcass. What's left is dried and ground, resulting in a meal similar in texture to cornmeal. Broths are made up of processed carcasses from many different animal types, in just about any condition.

Not Illegal

Unfortunately, none of this is against the law. We're used to fairly good rules about what can and can't go into human food, and we're used to those laws being reasonably well enforced. The regulations about what can be put into pet food are much looser, and may not be enforced at all.

That means that almost anything could end up in your dog's food, and that the labels on the package that claim it's "healthy and balanced" have little to no meaning. All that those words mean, in a legal sense, is that those foods contain a particular percentage of fat, protein, and added minerals and vitamins.

Preservatives and Additives

We've all heard of recent pet food recalls caused by wheat gluten poisoned with melamine from China. However, that's not the only additive that's in pet food, and plenty of them are extremely dangerous as well. Preservatives that aren't allowed in human food and cause serious illness in workers exposed to them are extremely common in dog food. Over time, they can cause cancer, illness, liver and kidney failure and many other problems. The food you give to your pet could be causing him or her to become sick.

Not Only Cheap Brands

This is happening in cheap dog foods, but there's no way to tell if the expensive ones are affected, too. these pet foods are often higher in quality, but sometimes they're not. That means that even if your vet recommends it, you have to do your research.

Solutions

You have a number of choices when it comes to improving your pet's food. First is to learn how to read the labels. Ingredients that come first are there in bigger percentages, so look for named meats far up on the list instead of generic terms.

You can also learn about the additives and preservatives that can hurt your pets, and look for the foods with the lowest percentage of grains. There are also a number of excellent recipes out there that can help dedicated pet owners make their own foods. Just be sure to do something, since most foods are actually dangerous.

Being able to train your dog on your own is one of the most rewarding experiences any dog owner can have. Not only will you get your dog to be the "good boy" (or girl) you want, but you will also strengthen the bond between you and your pooch.

It's important that you remember that with any dog training program you want to approach it as though you are a teacher to your dog. You don't want to be a ruthless enforcer just as much as you don't want to let your dog think that he or she is in charge! Remember - you are teaching your pooch how to behave and become a well-behaved dog that will make any dog owner jealous.

Who's the best person to train your dog? You of course! It's a great way to strengthen your bond and make your pup the best behaved dog on the block.

Effective dog training requires a battleplan. I included a link at the bottom of this article so you can get a full dog-training program you can use at home, but for now here are a few tips to keep in mind when starting to work with your pooch.

The first thing to always keep in mind is that you want your dog to be in the right frame of mind before you start any "training session". Make sure they have gone to the washroom so they aren't distracted. You also shouldn't start training right after they have ate - it's easy to get sleepy after eating.

By doing this you are eliminating a few potentials distractions that could stand in the way of training.

Another tip is to have a little play time before you jump into training. This makes your dog relaxed and more receptive towards you.

Make sure that you have some treats ready for your pooch so you can reward him - just like humans dogs will continue to behave a certain way when there is something in it for them! Of course you don't want to give away too many of these as this can confuse him. Reward your dog only when appropriate.

It's normal for your dog to run off every now and then during your training. Don't go in a frenzy and chase after them. Simply call him back using an authoritative tone to call him back and keep working on your training when you have his attention again.

One important thing to keep in mind is to not become frustrated if your dog seems to be clueless about what you are expecting from them. If you simply get upset with your dog you aren't helping the matter. Instead you need to learn how to better communicate with your pup.

You may have to help him out and physically show him what you want him to do. There are times that it might be frustrating, but this will get a whole lot easier over time. It will pay off in the long run!

Starting a dog training program with your pup is an incredible way to make your dog the best behaved pooch on the block and build an amazing relationship with your dog. Once you get started you will see just how rewarding it can be. All the best!

Go to http://www.easyathomedogtraining.com to receive a proven, "on your own" dog training program that will cut your dog training time in half! It's an effective dog behavior training program that makes dog training both easy and fun!

Mange is caused by infestation of mites. And it's nothing like simple flea infestation, as they dig beneath your pet's skin and live there. It's important to control its spreading and treat it, as it can be life-threatening. The following are some common home-made mange treatment for dogs and cats.

Mix 1-2 tablespoons of borax to 500 ml of water, with a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. Apply this mixture thoroughly all over you pet's body to keep mites from proliferating. However, do not towel dry your dog or cat; simply leave it on until it dries naturally. Do this about once a week.

Use warm water and soap for bathing them. It will keep your pet clean and fresh smelling. Also, it can help in keeping proliferation of mites under control. If pets scratch too frequently, giving them a bath daily or even twice a day is good enough. When using shampoo, opt for something that has almond or lavender oil.

Slice a lemon and place them in a boiling cup of water. Remember to include the peel as well. Let it steep overnight, then apply on affected skin areas using a sponge or cotton ball. You may also use honey to achieve the same effect. However, use a local or pure one, and not the type you usually find at grocery stores.

There are other things which you may apply topically, usually already found in your kitchen. Unsweetened and unflavored yogurt has acidophilus which is great for killing mites. Application also helps get rid of irritation and itchiness. Cooking oil is just as effective in killing those parasites. It will also soften and remove those waxy deposits on your pet's skin and coat. The antibacterial properties of garlic oil diluted in water also works great in preventing infections of affected skin areas.

But before problems arise, it's best to perform some preventive measures early on. This way, intensive mange treatment for dogs and cats won't have to be necessary. You must know that even healthy ones already got some mites in them. However, their numbers may go out of control, and that's when it becomes a problem.

As much as possible, regularly wash or clean their beddings, or any other article they sleep on. Likewise, cleanse areas in the house where your pet frequently stays. Using soap and water will suffice. Give your dog or cat frequent bathing as well. This is a great way to keep the number of mites in control.

A weak immune system and poor nutritional intake are some causes of mange. Ask your trusted vet on which food is best for your dog or cat. You might try adding chopped green and leafy vegetables to their regular food to boost its nutritional contents. A teaspoon of fish oil or echinacea tea will help in improving the natural immunity of your pet.

Homemade mange treatment for dogs and cats is best paired with regular trips to the veterinarian's clinic. But still the best way to put off the infection is to take them to the vet right away as soon as some signs and symptoms are noticed. Keeping your dog or cat hale and hearty will stave off mange.

It is really not nice for our pets when they become infected with all sorts of mites. It affects their well being and makes them depressed, because they are constantly itching and scratching. If not treated the infections become worse and then expensive oral medication like antibiotics will have to be administered. To find a good Non Toxic Mange Treatment for Pets is thus important and should not be treated lightly.

There are two common mange types found on cats and dogs, namely demodex canis and sarcoptes scabiei canis. Although the secondary skin infections are the same, the way that infestation happens is different. Hence the product which will help clear up the mange is also different. There are many different names for the diseases, so let's briefly discuss them.

Look out for areas on the body like the face, on the corners of the mouth and around the eyes. They also live on the paws and forelimbs. Your dog or cat will also have a rather septic smell on it's skin which is sure sign of gross infestation.

The other mange mite, sarcoptes scabiei canis or canine scabies, is also found naturally on the skin, but can be transmitted more prevalently. These mites will actually burrow into the skin to lay eggs. Extreme itch is the result with constant scratching until the skin is punctured. Infected ears and elbows are the first sign of scabies mange mites. You will also find this condition in severe cases where animals are not fed proper diets and become malnourished.

The answer is to change your animal's diet so as to strengthen it's immune system. This will help him fight off the infection better and will be able to live a long and healthy life from thereon. Also get an effective treatment for the mange outbreak by sourcing only non-toxic products which are proven to work.

Once you have bought the correct treatment solution, you can now apply it as directed. Also get non toxic creams which you can apply on the open wounds. If these are bad, then you would need to visit a vet and get him to give your pet a dose of antibiotics and immune booster to stop the infection from spreading.

It would be wise to try the non toxic treatment first because after all you don't want to harm your animal more than you should. Products like ivermectin can cause further damage to their immune system, rendering healing long and arduous.

There are several products on the market which will want you to treat your dog or cat until the signs of healing has returned. Things like redness disappearing from the skin, a better appetite and hair growth coming back are all goods signs that your pet is on the road to recovery.

While your animal is being treated, make sure that he does not come into contact with other members of the family just yet. Keep him away from your children and their bedding and ensure that his living area is clean. A Non Toxic Mange Treatment for Pets is thus the sensible thing to do for your four legged companion.

Discover the right Mange treatment by going online. Several mange spray choices are out there to pick from. Go online for the right one now.

If you've got a dog at home suffering from a condition called 'mange' you know the true meaning of the word 'irritation'. The dog is irritated by the condition and you're irritated at his constant scratching, biting and digging into his skin. Read on for a little bit about this problem and some information on mange symptoms.

Mange is primarily a problem with younger or older dogs. Most adult dogs have a sufficiently strong immune systems to fend off an attack of mites, which is basically what mange is. Puppies who haven't yet developed a strong immune system are most susceptible. Also, older dogs whose immune systems may be compromised in one way or another.

The first type of mange is known as demodectic mange and is caused by a tiny, eight-legged spider-like creature that burrows into the skin of the host. They're invisible to the human eye. They will cause the dog to want to scratch all the time because they're constantly irritating him. The dog's hair will commonly thin out around the eyes and mouth and maybe the front legs. This condition might go away on its own after a while, but not necessarily. This dog may require treatment.

Next is Cheyletiella mange, which comes from a larger mite (magnifying glass-sized) that causes symptoms recognized as dandruff flakes. These flakes will appear on the head, neck and back. There will also be mild itching. This condition is contagious, but not very long-lived. Once removed from the host, these mites will die. Brush your dog!

The worst type is Sarcoptic mange, also known as scabies. This is caused by a microscopic mite that burrows under the host's skin and lays her eggs. Then, three weeks after the eggs hatch, a new cycle begins with both groups now laying more eggs. This condition will literally drive a dog bonkers, and you too, probably.

Dogs suffering from scabies will scratch till they bleed and dig and bite at themselves continually, trying to relieve the irritation these mites are providing. Chances are good the sores they cause will become infected, too. This means you'll have to not only treat for the mites but for the infection too.

Some symptoms of sarcoptic mange include intense itching and hair loss. Crust on the ears, hairless patches on the elbows, legs and face (in the early stages)will all be apparent. Later on the hair loss may spread throughout the body. It's contagious to both other dogs and to humans. This one needs to be taken care of right now. Take your dog to the Vet. It's the best idea.

It's possible for other conditions to appear as mange because of similar symptoms. This can be a difficult condition to properly diagnose because the mites are so small and any sores or infections will obscure the affected area from thorough observation. Gather some more information on mange symptoms. Knowledge is power!

Find out more about ways you can identify and treat dog mange using simple ingredients that can give you the fast results you want. When treating mange dogs can begin feeling better and healthier quickly!

Dogs are a great deterrent to crime. I had one actually save my life once, or at least save me from being attacked by an early morning would-be intruder. I like to believe she saved my life.

Criminal trespassers will not venture into a home if they hear a dog barking inside. In this situation, you would want your dog's bark to be worse than his bite. You want it to be enough to scare off the intruder before he gets inside.

Criminals don't want to have attention directed at them. A barking dog is a little too much attention when they are trying to quietly enter a home.

Dogs provide so many services to us. I think God was mighty generous when He gave us dogs to be our companions - to love us, comfort us, guide us through our blindness, but especially to protect us. My German Shepherd, Venus, was the one who protected me with her bark in the early morning hours so long ago.

But not everyone is suited to own a dog. Maybe your lifestyle just can't support the needs of a dog, but you would like unwanted visitors to think you have a dog in the house. There really are devices out there that will do just that.

One such product is called a Barking Dog Alarm System. It uses an electronic radar-wave sense control, which lets it detect motion through wood, brick, glass, even cement. When it detects an intruder within it's range, it begins barking like an angry dog! No intruder is going to hang around to see if it is a real dog or not.

The biggest advantage to owning an electronic barking dog over a live dog is how much it will cost you in the long run. You only make one payment for the barking dog. You avoid having to pay for food, medical bills, grooming, boarding, or stuffed toys. And you don't have to worry about leaving it home alone without food or water while you're out of town on business or fun.

You will have to buy back-up batteries after the initial cost, but that's a small price to pay for peace of mind. You also don't have to take it for walks, or pick up poop or buy new plants that have been dug up. So all in all, if you are not a dog lover or just can't have one in your life right now, this may be the way to go. In these trying times when some people are looking for illegal ways to acquire money, it is smart to have whatever means you can find to protect your home, your loved ones and yourself. It also can be switched to announce visitors by way of a chime or alarm.

I still think dogs are the best deterrent of all. But then, a German Shepherd named Venus did save my life once.

Dogs are just about the most intelligent of domestic pets. If you take the time to look, you will see that they have the ability to communicate with humans, other dogs and even other animals. They do this with body signs and voice. Their signs are made with the their eyes, ears, eyebrows, head, mouth and tail.

Their voice is obviously not the same as ours, but they use pitch in their barks, whines, whimpers, pants, growls and howls and their gestures are made with their whole body and every part of it.

You can always tell a confident and therefore higher ranking dog, because they hold their tails high. Dogs, like all other animals, including we humans, have an inborn sense or their place in society. This is because dogs evolved in packs in the wild, just as we evolved in communities. which is why they integrate well into our human society.

There is a pecking order within their group, as within human society. The subservient dogs submit themselves to the stronger dogs, which is why dogs lower their tail when they feel insecure. When dogs fight for dominance, the fur on their tails stands up and they have this trait in common with other animals. They do it to show that they are being serious in front of their enemy.

A dog that is unsure what to do will wag its tail slowly. A bit like you or I might give a weak smile, unsure whether to smile openly or glower. They are in a process of working out whether they should recognize the status quo or fight. Excited dogs wag their tails very fast and if the dog's hip moves along with the tail, it means that the dog is in submissive mode to a higher ranker. A pet should do that to its owner, as you have become the leader of its surrogate pack.

When dogs get aggressive they show their fangs, the same as humans. If all of the teeth are visible, it indicates that the dog is prepared to bite or attack. We do the same unconsciously. People often bare their teeth and snarl insults, before a fight. However, they also show teeth when they smile but this is an indication of submissiveness, again as we do - compliance here meaning a recognition that a fight is unnecessary.

With a dog, the number of teeth on display shows the difference between a smile and a snarl. In a smile, a dog only shows the front teeth, but in a snarl the dog reveals all his teeth and gums and makes an aggressive sound.

Ears are a good indication of the dog's degree of attention. When the ears are vertical and forward facing, it means that the dog is concentrating. But if the dog is relaxed, its ears will lie flat. However, some breeds do not have as much control over their ears.

Dogs bark to protect their territory, which comes to mean their boss' territory, which should signify your property. However, barking is their usual language so you will have to learn the difference between friendly play barking and aggression in your dog. It is pretty apparent though.

Study of your pet is the key, because, although all dogs are the same as in all humans are the same, there are small differences. They are not difficult to learn, just spend some time with you dog and keep your mind open and it will become very obvious to you.

A new puppy brings to mind lots of wrestling, romping, and playing with an energetic ball of fur. It also makes people think of chewing, jumping, and little messes about the house that need to be cleaned up. Training a puppy takes time and lots of patience. Being repetitious in your actions and reinforcing good behavior is going to be the quickest way to teach this little guy the proper way to behave. The puppy training tips listed below should help you get started.

Housebreaking: This is probably the most trying form of puppy training that will take place. There is a lot of one on one time needed to make this process as effective as it can be. People who are able to monitor their puppy all day long will use the method of watching for when the pup's nose goes to the ground.

This generally means he is searching for a place to go to the bathroom. As soon as the pup looks like he is looking for a good spot to relieve himself, pick him up and take him outside. Remain outside until he does his business and praise him after he is finished.

People who use this method watch for signs of bathroom searching and immediately take the pup outside. As soon as his nose goes to the ground, you might only have a few seconds before he starts to leave a puddle.

Dogs don't usually make a mess where they sleep, so this area should be relatively safe from being used as a bathroom facility. Taking the puppy out of the crate every hour to go to the bathroom outside is often very effective. It's a good idea to not leave him in the crate for longer than two hours at a time. Once he's done his business outside, then he can romp around the house for a bit before he is placed back in the kennel.

Chewing: Problem chewing can be solved by having plenty of chew toys available for your new puppy. Sometimes sore gums is an issue and is why chewing starts. Having a clean sock in the freezer that is filled with some crushed ice is a great treat for soothing sore gums.

Excessive chewing usually means that his gums are feeling a bit sore. A great remedy for sore puppy gums is by providing a sock with crushed ice in it. This can be placed in the freezer when he isn't using it.

A daily routine is going to help a lot with housebreaking; taking him outside as soon as you get up, right before bed, and 20 to 30 minutes after he eats, will be times that he will become familiar with. Once he knows that these times are set, his body will adjust to them as well. Consistency with chewing issues, as well as housebreaking, is going to make these puppy training tips much more valuable. Don't let frustration get the better of you and think about how well-adjusted this little guy will be in the future, form all your hard work.

Many dog owners wonder if you can make dog treats that include peanut butter. I imagine that this question is frequently asked because several people have become aware that nuts are not acceptable for dogs. It has been reported that many groups of nuts like Macadamia and walnuts are quite harmful.

Some problems with nuts include the levels of toxicity they can produce over time and the excessive phosphorus content which may cause kidney failure, bladder issues and even death. The same would hold true for chocolates including nuts.

There is important news for those of us that like to use peanut butter as an aid in administering medicine, rewarding our dogs with peanut butter dog treats or just sharing a bit on the tip of our finger. Peanuts are not really nuts! In fact, peanuts are really a species in the legume family (Fabaceae) to be specific. In other words, peanuts are really a type of bean!

Like many items is life, there is good and bad in most things. Initially you should feed only a small amount since dogs can have food allergies just like people. If you believe that your dog has an allergic reaction, stop feeding them peanut butter immediately. One of the best features of peanut butter is the fact that it is high in protein, just keep in mind that it is also high in calories. Organic brands can be evaluated if you are worried about preservatives and sugar.

To conclude, peanut butter has not been found to be bad to dogs. Since many products include other ingredients it makes sense to review the label. Although we think our dogs are almost human, they really can't make reliable decisions when it comes to their nutrition. My dogs are excited since they love peanut butter dog treats.

Although some dogs are natural swimmers, not all are, which makes it important that you take the time to teach your dog to swim. Not only is it good for bonding but can be fun for both of you. Here are some useful tips on teaching your dog to swim.

1. Making use of a life jacket.

Using a dog life jacket serves two main purposes. Firstly it will give your dog buoyancy. This buoyancy will help your dog to float and make learning to swim a lot easier for him. It will also reduce the amount of fatigue your dog experiences and keep him warm in the water. Most dog life jackets also have a carry handle at the top. This enable you to grab the handle and help lift your dog out of the water. This is vital if your dog gets panicked or becomes fatigued.

2. Getting in the water with your dog.

Being in the water with your dog helps you with keeping a close eye on him whilst in the water. it very much the same way as if you were teaching a young child to swim. Being in the water at the same time allows you to encourage your dog more and guide them. It also enable you to quickly lift him out of the water if he runs into difficulties. Large dogs may need more than one of you in the water at the same time to help lift him out.

3. Start small initially.

If you have your own swimming pool, then this is an ideal way of introducing him to water. He can go in feet first and slowly move out until all his body becomes wet. Throwing your dog into water and hoping for the best is a very bad idea. This can lead to a life long fear of water in your dog.

4. Short periods of time.

When swimming, a dog uses a lot of energy and also loses a lot of heat in the water. Dogs that are bred to spend a lot of time i water usually have thick fur and a large. This minimizes their heat loss. To prevent your dog from developing hypothermia, keep swimming sessions short, dry your dogs fur afterwards and follow up by wrapping in a blanket.

5. Have fun.

Dogs love nothing more than joining in with his family, jumping and playing about in the water. Make the whole water experience fun. This can be achieved by playing games in the water, giving encouragement and even giving treats. This will encourage him to spend time in water as he will associate the experience with having a good time.

Ran writes reviews on the larger dog life jacket and many dog life jacket review articles.

If your dog is like many others and suffers from allergies, it may seem like treating the symptoms is an ongoing and often expensive process. Though curing a dog's allergies isn't really possible, there are a handful of treatment options that can really help make sure your dog is comfortable.

One of the best and easiest ways to alleviate your dog's allergies is by feeding him a well balanced and healthy diet. Premium dog food brands are often preferable to low-end commercial dog food, greatly improving skin and fur conditions to help deal with allergies. Premium dog foods contain ingredients that are of much higher quality, and they will improve your dog's overall health and well being.

Ensuring that your dog's diet contains plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids is also important. These fatty acids not only improve brain function and stimulation growth and development, but they also have a natural anti-inflammatory effect. This anti-inflammatory effect helps reduce or prevent allergies. Fish oil capsules contain plenty of Omega-3 fatty acids, so you might consider supplementing your dog's normal diet with these, especially ones that also contain vitamin E.

Regular bathing is also important, especially for dogs that suffer from allergies. Always use a specially formulated dog shampoo to ensure that it does not further irritate skin. Hypoallergenic and anti-itch shampoos specifically designed to lessen allergy problems can really help your dog, as can any dog shampoo containing oatmeal. In addition to the soothing effects of specially formulated shampoos, regular bathing also removes irritating allergens from your dog's coat. It is also essential to be certain that you rinse your dog's coat completely. Leftover soap residue can worsen itching and cause severe irritation.

If bathing and changes in diet do not improve your dog's condition, a trip to the vet may be in order. Allergy shots and medications can often clear up problems that even the best diet and bathing can't always help.

Taylor writes on a variety of other subjects, including how to select a large dog bed.

Housetraining is usually the first thing that a new puppy owner thinks about. Few puppies have received any training on housetraining before they go to their new homes. There are two simple methods that you can use to housetrain your puppy and you can use either one of them or you can use both of them at the same time.

The first way to train your puppy is to be very attentive and watch his behavior. Puppies will crouch to urinate and defecate. You must watch your puppy very attentively and as soon as he starts to change his stance then scoop him up and take him to his selected spot. If you happen to fail to notice the sign and he has an mishap, you should never reprimand him as he is still just learning and he does not know what is expected of him yet. Scolding him will just terrify him unreasonably.

If you happen to miss the signs fully and you come across an disaster soon after, do not discipline him. Dogs can only connect to what is happening at this moment and he will not know why he is in trouble if you reprimand him after the fact. This will just serve to confound your puppy and that will cause you more problems in the future.

The second approach to housetrain your puppy is to use a newspaper method. Start by covering the whole floor of the space where your puppy runs around. He will learn that the paper is an okay place to do his business. In stages reduce the newspapers in the room, making it smaller and smaller until there is only a small spot left. Then you can take that small piece of newspaper outside to his designated spot and he will start going there.

Either of these methods can work well. You may want to use both methods at the same time by using attention during the day and the newspapers at night. When you are active or preoccupied by other things, the paper system may work better.

Occasionally a puppy will go through a stage where he seems to "unlearn" all that you thought he already knew. This is a regular incident even though it can be very maddening. Do not penalize him for it.

You can use his own intrinsic dog behavior to get him back on track. A dog will not foul in his own space. Use a crate and make it comfy for him. Let him nap in his crate and when you let him out, straight away take him to his chosen spot. He will have to relieve himself straight away and he will quickly learn that this is the only suitable spot to do his business.

Housetraining does not need to be frightening or intimidating. Either or both of these two methods along with some persistence can have your new puppy housetrained before you know it.

If there exists something that most puppy owners will relate to it will be the experience connected with attempting to potty train a new puppy who has no clue with regards to the appropriate place to use the bathroom and also teaching the pup to become a dependable pet to make use of the bathroom in the proper area and at the appropriate times.

Potty training a puppy is also the most frequent area when lots of dog owners initiate the wrong kinds of teaching practices. It is this situation whereby people can use a few common sense ideas to get their puppies swiftly presented to the proper way to use the bathroom.

The very first thing you will need to be aware of is that most dogs possess a normal instinct to avoid messing the area where they sleep and also eat. Obviously brand new puppies may not get it right away, but it really isn't going to require much time for them to understand that they do not need to pee or produce stools where they live and play.

Let us discuss a few housebreaking strategies that you may utilize today which will help get your puppy on his way to getting effectively trained whenever he has to use the bathroom:

1. Whenever you rise each day, refrain from praising or greeting your puppy before he has used the bathroom. This will develop into a new habit for him as soon as your dog realizes that he will get lots of nurturing attention and also praise following using the bathroom every day, this routine should remain in his brain and he is going to recognize what to do in order to get precisely what he needs, and that is your praise!

2. When preparing to take your puppy outdoors or wherever it is you wish your pet to use the bathroom, adhere to applying only one command any time you guide your pet towards the potty place. For example, I utilize the phrase "Go pee pee".

3. Whichever way you are taking whenever you direct him from your household to his potty location, make use of this exact same path each and every time you take your pet to make use of the bathroom. This will help to develop a pattern so he knows that it is time to go to the bathroom when you're walking your pet through the same route.

4. Of course, it should go without stating you'll want to utilize plenty of encouragement and supportive caresses whenever your dog properly utilizes the bathroom inside the specified spot. It's essential to guide him to associate housebreaking with a positive experience plus showering him together with love and affection is the correct way to do it.

Should you keep to the above guidelines, potty training a puppy ought to become a beneficial experience for both you and the pup.

All dog training throws up many challenges along the way and none more so than when training a German Shepherd. There are specific techniques needed, but the good news is that they are easily learnt and the whole process can be incredibly rewarding.

The German Shepherd is one of the most intelligent and loyal of all breeds of dog. They love children and a well trained dog makes a wonderful pet, as well as an excellent guard dog.

A well trained dog always makes a better pet than an untrained animal, and much easier to control. Here are a few suggestions to get to your German Shepherd pup to that stage.

The Alpha dog will always be instinctively sought out by the German Shepherd. This instinct came in very useful in their original roles when they were used to herd their owners' sheep.

You need your dog to take their lead from you and to do this you must become the alpha dog. Don't hold back when remonstrating them, they really need the discipline.

Authoritative is one thing, but you must never be physically abusive. They are one of the most sensitive breeds and react badly to being disciplined physically. They can suffer long term mental suffering due to being struck.

Think of your puppy as a small child, they will always push you to see how far they go. This is just a puppy's nature and you should expect nothing else. Stay firm and stern and they will soon know right from wrong without losing their character.

The other side of this is that you must reward your German Shepherd when he does well. As much hates being in trouble, they love to be praised and if they know there are kind words or a treat, they will try even harder to please you.

Puppies and dogs are inborn pack animals and most of their conduct reflects that fact. The most notable thing to do when you get a new puppy is to set up your control. You are the "pack leader" and you must always make sure that your puppy knows that.

Puppies will expend a significant amount of time trying to figure out where they fit into the pecking order. They usually do this by trying to create their own authority. Some breeds are more assertive than others, for case, the terrier breeds. Some of the other breeds tend to be more dutiful naturally.

Immediately when your puppy comes home he needs to have his status in the chain of command established. He needs to be discerning that you and all of the individual family members in your home are domineering over him. This is not a matter of punishment but it is something that must occur if he is to become a contented and obedient member of your household.

In order to institute the dominance you must stick to a few easy rules. If not your puppy will be getting mixed signals and it will be more demanding for you to train him and he will be bewildered as to what you really want.

The leader must always eat first. Do not let your puppy eat before you eat. If you are planning on eating about the same time as you plan to feed your puppy, you need to make your puppy wait until you are done. Or you can have your puppy eat at a complete separate time than you eat. In the beginning you may want to call your puppy to you to get his food and make him wait before you give it to him. You can teach him to sit and then give him his food.

Grooming your puppy can send potent signals about who is in charge. At the beginning your puppy may whimper and wail when you touch him for basic grooming however you must take no notice of him and be firm on finishing. Every time follow through on what you start because puppies understand very rapidly if you really mean something or not.

When puppies are little they use their mouths to nip and bite at things. You must stop this behavior at once by giving him a sharp "No" and a tap if required. The leader of the pack never allows nipping and you are the leader of the pack.

It is critical with a new puppy to show him that you are dominant so try to avoid games like "tug'o'war" where he can get forceful and show too much control. Make sure that you reward his good behavior with praise and treats but just pay no heed to his bad behavior as you start obedience training. Keep these easy rules in mind and you can immediately train your puppy to be a good and obedient dog.

So you have a dog with a little bit of a problem. You've seen these guys on TV pushing their products and they make it look so easy, so now you're wondering: is a dog training DVD a good way to learn? Well, the answer is yes, if you are willing to put in the time and patience.

There are many reasons that people don't want to go to a trainer. First, and foremost is the expense. A good trainer will not be cheap. If they're cheap they can't be that good, and this is an area that you don't want to skimp on.

If you are considering taking classes, think it through. There is the drive time (hopefully, your dog's problem doesn't involve car rides), and the loading and unloading no matter what the weather. If you're unlucky, it will rain on class night and you get to smell wet dog in your car, plus after they get out. And remember, if you go to class you are on their time then, not yours. If you can't make a class, will it throw you behind? How fast can you get in? What if one of the dogs there transforms into a demon when your dog enters the room? And if the class doesn't work out you will probably not be eligible for a refund.

Another great thing about doing your dog training by DVD is that it will save you time and money. As far as time goes, you won't have to drive back and forth to see a dog trainer and spend hours of your time away from home. It will save you money because you won't have to pay for private trainer to help you with your dog.

Another great thing about training DVDs is that you can go back and review the material as often as you wish. We all know that training and all practice and repetition, so having the DVDs on hand will allow you to run through the motions of each session in the time you wish.

So, if you want to know if a dog training DVD a good way to learn, it really depends on what you consider a good use of your time. You can either spend it carting your canine back and forth to class, or you spend that time more wisely in the comfort of your own home.

Your dog wants to be trained. He will be much happier and greatly more at ease the better trained that he is. You will as well enjoy him more. Dogs are pack animals and they obtain pleasure from following the leader of the pack. You just need to make sure that the boss or the "alpha dog" is you.

Dogs that are not trained for obedience are commonly much more edgy and rambunctious because they do not know precisely what it expected of them. A dog is tends to be much happier and more contented when he knows accurately what they need to do at all times. A subservient dog is not just happier but he is safer, too.

You can take advantage of various ways to train your dog. There are loads of books and videos out there and you can also find some impressive online courses. Just about every city also has proficient dog trainers and dog obedience programs that you can go to also.

All dogs need to embark on their training as soon as they come home. Even older dogs need to start training, as the old myth; "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is not accurate. Every dog will act in response to constructive reinforcement and every dog will want to please the boss or the "alpha dog".

The most victory in dog training comes when you include education in playtime and just have fun. You are still teaching vital lessons but you both are enjoying the time you spend and you are not placing stress on your dog by forcing things. All dogs are different and your dog may learn some things very quickly while other things take more time. Just get pleasure from the process and both of you will profit.

Affirmative reinforcement for sought after actions from your dog is critical. Employ both praise or treats but make positive that you acknowledge your dog when he does something right. Timing is also imperative. You must give the praise immediately after the performance so that he will link the good feelings with the good actions. The same holds true for any type of reprimand also.

A dog cannot reason and he can only associate positive or negative reinforcement with what is happening at the moment. If you reprimand your dog now for something that he did an hour ago, it is absolutely futile and it will only serve to scare him pointlessly because he won't realize your reasoning.

The very most imperative thing that you need to be attentive of when you are training a dog is that you and all of the human being members of your family need to outrank him in the pack order. You must be the chief or the "alpha dog". You can promptly bolster this in his mind if you rub his belly as soon as he turns over. He will have to surrender to you and he will then consider you as the leader. All of your teaching will be easier if you are established in his mind as the leader.

Is your dog barking excessively and you would like them to quit? A loud pet will disrupt your family life, create tension with the neighbors and frustrate even the utmost patient of people. If your pet has a barking problem that's making you crazy, here's how to remedy matters and recoup some peace and quiet in your life.

When it comes to excessive barking, the answer is like any ordinary deterrent for undesirable behavior in your dog. There are a variety of dog bark control techniques that you'll be able to use to stop your pet's unwanted vocalization. Basic training ways can be used to regulate a barking dog and to show your pet when enough is enough. Eventually your dog will be trained to respond to hand signals or voice commands that permit them to know it is time to stop. This methodology takes time and regularity on your behalf but works for most pets and many sorts of problem habits.

If your pet does not respond to ordinary coaching, there are training aids like dog bark control collars that you may buy and use to teach your pet what is expected and to stop barking. Nowadays's bark collars are safe and effective. In addition to the typical and somewhat controversial static collars, you'll choose from collars that use sound or bursts of air (with or without citronella) to dissuade barking. Collars activate themselves when the dog barks rendering them helpful for controlling this habit even when you're not home.

Shock Collars

A shock collar operates by delivering a little static jolt to the dog when it detects a bark. This shock has been likened to the intensity of a static shock you may feel when walking across carpet and touching metal. It may be unpleasant, but it will no actual harm to the pet at all. Most models of shock collars have a user adjustable setting to work out how much static to deliver to the dog.

Citronella Collars

Dogs simply plain loathe the scent of citronella, thus these collars work by releasing a small burst of this smell directly within the direction of the pet's nose once they bark. Soon, a dog begins to associate the barking with "that repulsive smell" and the dog will avoid creating noise to avoid the scent.

Sonic Collars

A dog has more touchy ears than an individual does and they will hear frequencies that we tend to will not. A sonic collar works by delivering an inaudible sound that is unpleasant for the dog when it detects them barking. This sound will do no more injury to their ears than their barking is doing to yours, but it is likewise not enjoyable for the dog. In an effort to avoid the sound, a dog learns not to bark.

Before going to these lengths it can be helpful to strive and perceive precisely why your pet is acting up. Thus, what causes some dogs to bark excessively? A dog will vocalize for a number of various ordinary and perfectly natural reasons. They could bark to provide you with a warning of danger or to get your attention. Some also persevere out of boredom or excitement. While they do not do it just to bother you, overzealous barking can be downright frustrating for a pet owner who simply desires a flash of peace. Luckily with a bit of coaching and time, you'll be able to successfully rein in this practice and recoup your sanity.

Housebreaking a puppy often takes a lot of time. It is important to understand that the learning skills of your puppy can be very different from the skills of another; therefore, training should not be rushed.

It is thought that the best approach to housebreaking a puppy is to set, and stick to, a simple routine. If you are consistent with your training methods, you will find that your puppy will learn faster and better; soon enough he will defecate and urinate on his own.

The next step you need to take to housebreak your puppy is to determine the area of your yard that will become the dogs potty area. This is where your puppy will do all of its training as this is going to be your puppy's comfort zone.

What you need to do is take your little dog to the potty area every day. When it begins to urinate or defecate, give the puppy a treat, or show it some love. This is necessary to give your pet the cue that it is doing what you want and that you are pleased with its behavior.

Talk to your puppy as much as you can whilst its in the potty area, using phrases like 'go pee' and 'go poo'. Keep the phrases short and simple, and use a consistent tone, and your puppy will quickly learn to recognize what you are saying.

Another important consideration to take into account is the puppy's feeding schedule. Housebreaking a puppy can definitely be made easier if he has a consistent feeding schedule.

Feed your puppy according to a schedule so that you can start to learn its bowel and urine habits. You decrease the likelihood of your puppy defecating or urinating inside the house if you know when it is going to have to relieve itself.

Do you have to put your dog away when visitors come to your house in the fear of your dog jumping on someone? Do you get greeted at the door with sharp paws and a slobbery wet kiss everyday after a long day at work? No matter how ofter you scold or punish your dog, does he keep jumping up on you and others when you walk though the door? A dog jumping up on you and your visitors is a very common problem and one that can be eliminated rather quickly if you know what to do.

Unintentionally you may have encourage this behavior for the start. You see when a new puppy comes into our lives they are cute and cuddly, they meet us with excitement and come running. And what is our natural reaction to this? Well, we bend down and pet them or pick them up.

You have just taught your puppy a very important lesson, "when I jump up on my owners leg he/she gives me love!" Fast foreword a few months and now that once small little puppy is 3, 4, maybe 5 times the size he once was. He doesn't understand the difference, he just wants the love that he knows how to get by jumping on you.

Before we move on to how to stop dogs jumping on you, let me make it clear that there are two main reasons why a dog may jump on you.

The first being out of extreme excitement. Usually rejoicing after a long absents from you.(come home from work)

The second and much more serious reason why some dogs jump on people is to show dominance. Dominance issues are a more complicated problem of communication and attitude. Dominance, If let unchecked for too long could really be difficult to over come. If you feel that you may be dealing with a dog that is jumping on people to display dominance, I suggest that you brush up on your alpha dog skills.

Your success in stop dog jumping will depend greatly on how you react to this problem. You must make a committed effort as with any dog training to be consistent. You have to make it clear to your dog that jumping on people is no longer allowed what so ever.

What this means is you are going to fallow though with the same training all the time every day until he masters this new behavior. You can't expect your dog to know the difference between nice cloths and play cloths, muddy paws and clean paws or play time and greeting time. If you let him jump in one situation he will think it's ok to jump when ever he feels like it.

Most professional trainers agree that the most effective way is also the easiest way to stop unwanted behavior (such as jumping) in your dog is to ignore him whenever he jumps. No need to yell or correct, although that is usually the first thing that comes to mind when your dog just ruined another pair of nylons or scratch one of your children. You must ignore the bad behavior.

When your dog goes to jump on you, turn your back on him right away. Dogs understand body language much more than the spoken word. So, what you need to do here is use your posture to get your message though loud and clear. As soon as he gets his paws are back on the ground, reward him with praise. If he gets excited again and goes to jump, turn your back, head and eyes away from him (the cold shoulder). You can repeat this cycle several times in a matter of seconds. Don't concern yourself with confusing your dog because they can only comprehend your reaction to their given behavior at that moment. Continue this training technique for the next several days and soon your dog will stop jumping on you.

Like people, dogs have personalities and every dog has a different personality. Training a dog can be a challenging and frustrating experience. It doesn't have to be. If your having trouble with potty training, chewing, digging, leash training or any number of problems. I can help! The animal control facilities are full of misunderstood pets. Before you give up please use every resource possible. Most likely I have a tip or method to help you. If I haven't covered your problem in one of my articles than I know some how has. It is always exciting to get a new puppy but you will want to be prepared to guide your puppy and teach him to be a cherished part of your family. Before you bring your new puppy to your place there are a few items that you will need to consider. It is easier to have the stuff that you will need on hand rather than to try to get them later on.

There is an large quantity of things that you can get for your new puppy. Some of these things are practical and helpful to have and others are not really required.

The most important item that you need to have is a crate. All of your training will go better if you use a crate. Also dogs like to have their own space that is pleasant and comfortable for them. Make sure that you get the appropriate size, not too huge and not too little. You may want two if you take your dog in the auto very often.

A collar and a leash are also crucial. Get one everyday collar that fits well and save any special training collars for later. One six-foot, perhaps retractable leash that is comfortable for your hand is also necessary.

Try to find out what your puppy is used to eating and get enough of that for a couple of weeks. All dietary changes should be made little by little. Get a food and water dish also. Stainless steel is typically the best.

For training purposes, you will need some type of aversive, or something that you can use do dissuade unmanageable behavior. An aversive is something that your dog does not like and will work to stay away from but something that will not hurt him. A clicker that makes a noise or a squirt bottle will act as an aversive. You will also need some soft treats that you can use as a reward in training.

Young puppies need to chew until they get a tad bigger so you will want to have some chew toys on hand. Start out with just a few until you know what your puppy likes. Same with other toys do not load up on toys until you know your puppy's personality.

The first few days after you bring your puppy home will be easier if you have the things that you need on hand. You will want to start training right away so it will be easier if you are geared up.

Are you ready for Puppy Training 101? To begin with, you will need three specific pieces of accessories to be able to properly teach your puppy: a training dog collar, a leather training leash, as well as a 15-foot length clothesline rope.

If you're already considering that your puppy's current leather dog collar will work, and that his 4-foot chain lead will probably be all you need, you may as well end reading this article and save yourself as well as your puppy weeks of uncomfortableness plus hardship. There basically is no substitute for the right training equipment. A training collar is really a slip-chain type constructed of metal. You should not substitute one that's made of nylon.

One of the numerous things an individual's puppy will almost certainly understand is to have assurance in you. However he will never develop that feeling of trust in the event you substitute inappropriate training products that are not efficient. When there's no confidence there can be no respect, and no respect means no want to please. No need to please indicates no enthusiasm to learn. Add them all up and you have got an unmanageable puppy which will never realize his rightful place in the human world.

The Proper Leash

Your leash should be of the regular five to six foot leather type with a hand loop at one end. Training dog collars and also leather training leads can be purchased from pet specialists and also via online catalogs. Training collars are sometimes called choke-chains, which is incorrect. While it's true that a training collar can choke, if it's worn on the puppy correctly and used properly, there's no way it can be a choke-chain and cause harm to your pet.

The Right Collar

The collar should be large enough to slide over the puppy's head comfortably, but not so large as to fall over the ears if the puppy should lower his head. A good rule of thumb to follow is to place the collar on the puppy and cinch it up tight for a moment and observe whether you have three inches of chain left over. If so, you have a fairly good fit. It is better to have a training collar that's slightly too large than one slightly too small.

Final Puppy Training Necessities That You Cannot Find In A Store

The remaining equipment that you'll need cannot be purchased at any store, but without them, you cannot successfully train your puppy.

You must love and care for your puppy! You must have patience and exercise patience while your puppy is learning. A shallow persistence put together along with a short temper could assure total and utter failure

To lose your cool and blow up means the end of training, so here's a little tip that might help you keep your cool:

It takes 4 to 5 days for an average puppy to learn the average thing. Do not expect your puppy to perform like a professional the first few days of teaching him something new. It just doesn't happen that way. If you lose control of yourself, you have lost control of the situation. When this happens, your puppy loses confidence in you.

I hope you have enjoyed the first lesson in Puppy Training 101!

It is wise to determine what kind of mange your pet has; demodectic mange or sarcoptic mange before you decide on a mange treatment. Another factor when deciding on a mange treatment depends on how severe your pets mange symptoms are. Beware... There are many mange home remedies on the internet, there are also traditional very toxic mange dips and oral medications such as ivermectin and there are also very effective topical non toxic mange treatments.

Finding a good Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange and Sarcoptic Mange is basically a two step process. You treat the infection if it is present and your treatment should kill the mange mites that are causing your pet to itch and tear its skin. This can be a pretty daunting task if you don't know how to accomplish this task easily and quickly.

Lets talk about a Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange. Demodectic mange, sometimes also called Demo or Demodex mange most often includes infection. You can usually tell if your dog or cat has infection by just smelling your pet. If it has a septic smell, then it is most likely that your pet has infection. The skin is usually red and perhaps even raw.

You want to get control of the infection right away. You can most likely do that by using non toxic topical products currently on the market by people who specialize in mange treatments. Your pets immune system can't fight the infection at this point and it needs help by using non toxic products such as medicated body washes made of benzalchonium chloride. Beware of toxic products or mange treatments that is so strong, it will burn your pets already inflammed skin! You want to stop the infection as quickly as possible and not cause more skin problems. If the infection is bad enough, the infection could get into your pets blood stream and your pet would then have to be treated orally with antibiotics.

The trick to a good and effective mange treatment is finding one that is a non toxic topical product. You don't have to make your pet sicker by applying toxic dips or giving him oral toxic medications such as ivermectin. Why treat the entire pet when you only have to treat him topically? Why bring his immune system down? These toxic dips and oral products reduces your pets immune system even more and it can't fight bacl. Your pets immune system is usually shot by this time and it is already compromised; that's why it can't fight back the mites. So why make it worse?

Sarcoptic Mange does not require a lengthy Mange Treatment and it can usually be corrected within a couple of weeks. The Sarcoptic mites burrow themselves just below the top layer of the skin and they are much easier to reach. In many cases, infection is not present and the dogs immune system is not compromised. There is no need to use harsh toxic dips or oral medications as a Sarcoptic Mange Treatment.

You normally want to continue The Mange treatment several weeks after symptoms stop, the skin has healed and/or hair has started to grow back. It is also recommended that you give your pet vitamins to boost its immune system; this way he will be stronger to fight a future mange infestation.

Pets with mange symptoms are required to be isolated away from other pets to avoid cross contamination. Wash your pets bedding daily and keep your pet out of your own bed. Thoroughly clean a good Disinfectant Spray. Do not reintroduce the bedding, toys or any other items that the pet usually uses until the infestation has been contained and treated. If your pet gets reinfested with mange mites or the pet is not treated, the bed cleaning will have to be repeated again and again until the pet is mange-free.

Spaying or neutering your dog is not only a wise way to avoid litters of puppies, but it is positive for your puppy's health. Also, it will eradicate many aggression complications and you will have less behavior difficulties.

To be able to keep your dog's attention you can do things that he enjoys but you must also reward him for small successes. Do not proffer a food reward every time, however, because intermittent reinforcement is actually much more effective than constant reinforcement because he never knows when he will get the treat so he will keep doing the behavior on the hope that he will get the food reward. Also too many food treats can be bad for your dog's health and weight. However, love and attention should be consistently given.

A treat does not essentially have to be food. It can be a walk in the park, playing in the yard, riding in the car or even just a hug and pat on the head. Love and affection should not be withdrawn, as your dog will do just about anything for that alone. This is a great way to sustain your dog's motivation to satisfy you.

Be watchful of distractions during your training sessions. Your dog must learn to pay no heed to the distractions and obey your commands. Give love and attention and rewards when his attention is only on you. As your training progresses you should go to more and more locations where there are probable distractions so that he learns to put his attention where you want it to be.

You can get started training your dog right now. Take a look at the many dog-training programs and find the one that you feel the most at ease with, then just sign up, download it to your computer, and start training your dog right away.

Dog training will take time, patience and energy. But there is no way to get out of doing it and still have a well-mannered and well-adjusted dog. If you can't do it yourself you should probably go ahead and employ a expert, but do be aware that that option will end up costing you quite a bit more money.

If you are thinking of buying a dog cage, I am sure you have probably found it quite confusing. The reason for this is that there are so man available for the small, decorative, cute models, that look more like a piece of furniture, to the larger, heavier duty travel dog cages.

The folding wire cages are one of the most popular and usually cheapest models around. They are very useful for crate training your dog and for travelling. They are open on all sides which can be a disadvantage as it does not provide a quiet area for your pet to retreat to. This can be remedied though by simply placing a blanket over the cage.

Another type to consider is the increasingly popular soft dog cage. They are durable but may cause a problem if your dog is a chewer or is going to get much bigger than his current size. They look cute, often come in bright colors and are more ideal for the smaller breeds of dog.

The next type is the wicker dog cage, which is one of my favorites. It will often blend in with the furniture at home and so is ideal if you plan on keeping the cage indoors. As with the soft type of cage, these types are best suited to small dogs.

The most common type of cage used for transporting dogs is the plastic dog cage, which has a door at the front and air vents on the top and along the sides. These types are often a little more expensive than the other models available. Therefore, it is worthwhile buying one that is also an airline approved carrier, in case you decide to travel by air at a later date. I would advise this type of cage over the wire variety for travelling in a car.

When finally going out and buying your new dog cage you also need to consider the size of your dog, his tendencies and habits. If you have a large dog or one that is a chewer, especially if he is going to spend a lot of time in the cage, I would recommend a plastic one.

Whichever type of cage you decide to buy, it is important to remember that this is your dogs new home. He should see this as somewhere that provides him with security and somewhere quiet to rest.

Fran writes many articles on car dog cages and about training your dog with small dog cages.

It is a immense choice to make when you come to a decision to get a new puppy. Most of the dog breeds live between 10 and 15 years so your new pet will be with you for quite awhile. That is why the decision should not be taken frivolously.

Before looking at puppies you should try to spend some time with an adult dog of the chosen breed. Talk to breeders, local dog obedience trainers and other owners.

Your puppy will develop up to be an grown-up dog so as you decide on a breed make sure that you spend some time with some grown dogs from that breed. Talk to people who have possession of that breed or are familiar with the breed such as breeders at dog shows and local dog obedience trainers. If doable spend some time with some grown-up dogs of the sort.

Unique breeds have diverse distinctiveness that you will need to take into consideration. Some dog's shed and some dogs make a big noise called "baying". Make sure that the breed you choose has qualities that you can live with. If you cannot stand dog hair on your furniture or you or a family member is allergic you will want to think about a dog that will not shed. If your family is laid back and easy going you may not want to get a energetic and rambunctious little terrier.

Those who work with animal's day in and day out like veterinarians and the people who work in their office can usually give you quite a bit of helpful information on the breed that you are considering. If there are latent health tribulations that tend to show up in the breed it is nice to know that before you see the puppies.

You will also need to do some investigation into breed particular ailments. Certain breeds are prone to different genetic problems such as cleft palate, hip dysplasia or in the case of the lovable little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, heart mitral valve disease.

If you want some really invaluable and fair-minded information talk with one or more dog obedience instructors. They usually have a abundance of great information that they can give you on the diverse breeds and what to look for when choosing a puppy.

For a lot of years to come your new puppy will with any luck be a much-loved member of your family. You need to amass some sound information and use that to choose your puppy and not just the "puppy love" that we all tend to go through around sweet little puppies. Every puppy will grow out of that really cute state and the adult dog is the one who will be your pet for years to come.

Training your new Golden Retriever should be considered an absolute must for your new pet. Goldens, of course, are naturally affectionate, but an untrained one can be difficult to manage. Keep in mind that once fully grown, a Golden Retriever can be upwards of 80 pounds, enough to knock an adult down.

Goldens are natural jumpers, of course. In fact their preference is to greet newcomers face to face, and this is where basic training comes in. A good dose of repetitive training helps instill good habits in your Golden Retriever early on.

Golden Retrievers are very receptive to training. But owners should plan on dedicating the time and patient effort to make training permanent. Golden Retriever training can be a great experience and will pay dividends in the long run. Your dog wants to please you, after all, so the training experience, while taxing at times, should be a rewarding one.

Here's a quick technique for training puppies that love to chew. Golden's are retrievers, after all, and spend lots of time "sampling" everything from your new sandals to your unprotected arm. Designate some specific chew toys for your Golden early on. Also, be sure to trash toys that have become damaged during play. You don't want your Golden Retriever swallowing the actual squeaking part that come out of those toys. A firm "No!" will usually stop inappropriate chewing. Be sure to then replace the inappropriate item with a designated toy. Be consistent with this training and always lavish praise on a Golden Retriever that has done well.

Pay special attention to your Golden's exercise needs, which are ample. Golden Retrievers need lots of room to run. Without this crucial exercise time your Golden will surely find other means to unwind, and your personal belongings will most certainly be victimized by a dog who just needs to get out and run around. And unless you can get them outside to run every day, Golden's really aren't meant for the type of cramped conditions that most apartments offer.

It is always an exhilarating stretch when a new dog joins your family. Whether you get a new puppy or an older dog this is the time when you want to make sure that you are doing whatever you can to socialize your new family member. It is better for everyone if you do what you can to socialize your new dog because he is likely to come upon several new and uncommon situations during his life and he needs to realize early on how to respond in healthy and suitable way.

New puppies can start off getting socialized as early as 2 to 3 weeks after birth. Most adopted puppies join their new family at about 7 to 8 weeks of age. The socialization of a puppy should commence as near the beginning as possible. However puppies tend to be more afraid and tentative until the time that they are 14 weeks old so during the initial days make sure that you are gentle with them.

Socialization is a ability that should be trained throughout a dog's life. Different situations and circumstances can affect a dog and he can change from warm and outgoing to nervous, afraid or even threatening. That is why it is essential to train in socialization skills throughout your dog's life. Permit him to experience a range of situations, different people and other animals.

Let your dog become familiar with other dogs and other animals. You can take him to a park or a doggie daycare or even just go to see friends who have pets. Be sure that your dog has had all of his shots first but it is critical for his socialization to meet up with others.

People who appear to your dwelling frequently should all be familiar to your dog. That would include the mailperson. Introduce them and let your dog get familiar. If it is feasible make sure that you take your dog around many diverse people, as it will increase his social skills immensely.

Dogs are natural pack animals and they will reconstruct the pack in their new home. This means that it is critical that humans are always seen as the prevailing member of the pack. When a human speaks the dog should mind, every time, no matter what. The dog is the follower and the humans are the leaders.

Socialization should carry on throughout the life of your dog. Your dog needs to frequently come across new situations and new people and animals. He will be less prone to develop troubles like biting and fighting if he is well socialized.

Your dog training will be more successful and you and other people will like your pet more if he is correctly socialized and well-behaved in the majority of situations.

One of the things that most people hate about having a new puppy is the fact that you have to train them. While puppies are certainly one of the most popular and cute pets in the world, trying to teach them everything from stopping biting all the way to potty training can be a difficult task. We are going to explore some of the best options in this article on how you can stop puppy biting the easy way.

One of the very first items that you need to think about is the fact that you are your puppy's pack leader. You are definitely the Alpha dog in this situation and you need to make sure that you state your authority right up front, otherwise your puppy will walk all over you.

One thing that a lot of people do not realize when they are trying to train their puppy not to bite them is that they should absolutely under no circumstances pull their hand away or jerk it away. That will entice the puppy to lunge at your hand and think it is a game and that your hand is a playtoy.

What you want to do whenever your puppy tries to bite you, you want to make sure that you first, simply offer the puppy your fist. That way, they can nibble with their teeth on your hand and when the bite becomes too hard, you want to keep your hand totally still but react with a firm and stern tone in your voice. Give one or two sharp 'Ouch!' sounds and you will notice that the puppy will react to that.

What many people do not know, especially if they have not owned a lot of animals in their life, is that puppies and dogs especially, are affected very much by the tone of your voice. If you sound extremely angry with them, they will not be able to handle it and they will stop doing whatever makes you angry.

Ignoring your puppy whenever they are not listening to your ouches is a great way to ensure that you puppy will stop biting. Puppies hate to be ignored and to be honest, they will do everything to get your attention. So ignoring your dog will honestly be a fantastic option if the tone of your voice is not working.

As you can probably see, there are quite a few things that you need to take into consideration whenever you are dealing with puppy biting. It can be extremely difficult for your puppy to stop biting so you have to practice.

Practice definitely makes perfect and that is the statement that you need to keep stating to yourself every time you think that you are about ready to quit! Remember to keep all of these guidelines in mind. Also the tone of your voice is a huge deal, so make sure that you are stern and firm with your puppy and in the long run, you should have no issues.

Undoubtedly, there is nothing quite as cute as a new puppy. But let's face facts. Not everything about a puppy is cute. As is true with a human toddler, puppies have to be potty-trained, or house-broken, if you will. If you want to make sure to properly house-break your new puppy, you have to do the job the right way from the very start. The first thing you should do is to take your puppy out to the back yard, if you have one, and let him stay there until he does his business. Let him know how pleased you are with the good job he's done. This should be done about every two hours.

When house training, it is important to remember to feed the puppy in its crate and then carry it outside shortly after eating to let it go to the bathroom. It is very important that you remember to carry him or her and then set them in the grass.

When you carry him outside, make sure to set him on the grass. The puppy should feel grass under him so that he can get used to the idea that this is the proper place to do his business. If you think he's taking too much of his own sweet time in doing what he has to do, try walking around a little so that the puppy will follow you. Walking sometimes loosens him up and makes it easier for him to go.

Remember also to take your puppy outside again just before bedtime. If he cries during the night, it may be that he needs a bathroom break. Take him outside if that's the case.

If you take the puppy out in the middle of the night, put them back into the crate after. Do not get it too excited because it may not want to go back to sleep. Give it a few days and soon the puppy will start to sleep through the night.

One common trick when house training is to have a piece of newspaper down on the floor if the puppy does go inside. Try and help the puppy to associate the newspaper with a place to go to the bathroom if it can't make it outside. Slowly move the newspaper closer and closer to the door, and eventually the puppy will get the trick.

Finally, it is very important to reward your puppy for being good. If your puppy does his business properly outside, show him how happy you are or give him a treat for a job well-done.

Remember to only reward the puppy only when they have been good. After time it will come natural to them and they will know what needs to be done for a treat.

Dogs are easy to love, especially for people who like animals. Dogs seem to have unlimited reserves of energy and spend that energy unconditionally loving their owners. Who doesn't like that? Some people can't get as close to their dog, however, due to severe dog allergies. Certain dog allergies can rear their ugly heads and cause real problems. This forces some to find a quick fix, and they end up sending their dog to a new home. While technically this works, it's obviously not the ideal solution to the problem.

Dander (shed skin cells,) saliva, and urine; these are the main villains when discussing dog allergies. When people with sensitive immune systems come into contact with these allergens, reactions can occur. Don't worry about long haired dogs. It's a myth is that hairless dogs will not cause reactions anyway. Less allergens, in the case of skin cells, every dog with drool and urinate. And while annoying, it's good to know that most people will recognize dog allergy symptoms as normal allergy symptoms that they are used to anyway, such as red/itchy eyes, stopped up nose, shortness of breath, and rashes. Of course these are not any fun, but they are manageable.

A clean home is the best defense against dog allergies and allergens. Making a point to vacuum regularly helps, as does using furniture that is upholstered in leather. Changing your air filter to your AC unit will help reduce dander floating around in your house. And since fur can retain allergens, regular bathing is a good idea. Be sure to remember to wash your dog's bedding or cushions, or else anything you gained from giving the dog a bath will be lost quickly.

A much simpler way is to purchase allergen reduction products. Allerpet D for Dogs is an example of a shampoo that reduces the amount of dander in a dog without causing dryness of the skin. Decreasing dog allergies is as easy as adopting good management strategies!

An allergy specialist can give you additional advice as well. They can provide you with certain prescriptions and over the counter, that can mitigate the runny noses and itchy eyes. For reactions that are really bad, they can recommend and perform allergy shots, which are a good idea if you have bad allergies in general. Getting rid of your dog and sending it to another home should not be your first option.

Visit the Hypoallergenic Dog Food Guide for more info on allergies that can occur within dogs.

Mange is a skin condition that includes scabies, red mange, ear mite infections and cheyletiella which is caused by mites in mostly dogs and cats. The veterinarian can offer the right advice and provide the correct Mange Medicine for your pet.

Some of the more severe manifestations of Mange, Sacoptic Mites, Demodex Mites and Ear Mites, need to be closely checked by a veterinarian otherwise your pet may face severe health issues. Although these cases are the most severe, there are many other types of Mites that can be dangerous to not only dogs and cats but livestock as well.

One of the first symptoms that a dog with Scabies will present is a crusting of the skin on the ear. Intense irritation can be caused by the Notoedres Mite and Sarcoptic Mange can also affect humans. With all of the intense itching it is possible for the mites get transferred to humans and cause them to itch as well, however, the symptoms will disappear in a couple of weeks if the pet is disinfected.

It is important to treat these conditions as quickly as possible, as the discomfort can become quite severe. Seepage, scabs or boils may begin to appear as well as balding skin patches. If that happens, the vet will likely have to do a biopsy to check for other types of infections that may have developed.

The vet will need to give the pet periodic injections of Ivermectin for a up to four weeks. Bath your pet with dandruff shampoos and dab the affected area with insecticides recommended by the pet. The steroid cortisone and antibiotic creams would relieve the redness and itching.

The Demodex variation of the infection is not contagious, but you still want to get it checked out and treated as quickly as possible, because you run the risk of causing a secondary infection in your pet if you don't. With Demodex, your pet will experience the same itching, irritation and discomfort as with the other types of Mange, so of course you want to relieve your pet from that in the fastest time.

Not all dogs and cats are affected by this mite but some of them are severely affected and this is caused by hormonal changes, suppressed immunity system or a genetic disorder. This disorder is seen mostly in pups going through hormonal changes and most animals recover from it without treatment.

Baths are excellent for treating and soothing a pet who is afflicted with Mange. You should also use any tonics or vitamins that you get recommendations about from your veterinarian. There are several vitamin choices that will help boost your pet's immune system and make him less likely to suffer for too long.

Ear mites cause intense itching and discharge in the ear in dogs and cats. Cats are more sensitive to chemicals hence it's important to consult the vet in how to safely treat the feline.

Homeopathic treatments are a popular choice for many pet owners and they can be a good choice for pets that have sensitivity to certain medications. But, again, the first course of action is to talk to your vet. Of course the most important thing is the proper care, nutrition and cleansing of your pet to help prevent him from getting any of the varieties of Mange ever again.

If your dog has mange and needs a remedy or medicine to help, you should find a mange spray. There are tons of mange medicine that you can find on the Net that could help.

If you are trying to find the right dog training book, you might not really know where to begin with all of the options that are available. The unfortunate fact is that many people write books by just throwing together rehashed information instead of coming up with something new. However, there are some books which are full of valuable information if you know where to look.

One of the best places to find a dog training book is by looking online. E-books contain the most up-to-date information because they are so easy to edit. Physical books can go out of date quickly, so finding an online e-book can provide you with instant information that you're looking for.

Before choosing a dog training method, it is important to consider the type of breed you are trying to train. Dog breeds have specific characteristics that are ingrained in them due to their genetic heritage. Therefore, it is advisable to find a dog training book that is specific to the breed you are working with.

As an example, Jack Russell terriers were bred to chase foxes which means that their noses sometimes take precedence over their brain. Beagles suffer from the same issue. Therefore, it makes sense to use training methods that are specific to these kinds of dog breeds and can overcome their intuitive sense of smell.

Before you purchase any kind of a dog training book, you want to first be sure that you have read over the material and know whether or not you will be comfortable with the training style being suggested. It is important that you can follow through with the training methods in the book.

Another thing to consider is who actually wrote the book that you are thinking of buying. You want to make sure that the author actually has experience with what they are writing about and is not simply putting together information in book form.

No matter what dog training method you use, you want to make sure that it does not include punishment. Disciplining a dog is a good idea, but punishment is not. It breaks down the relationship between the owner and the pet. You can find the right dog training book if you keep these tips in mind.

How crucial is a dog's own disposition and personality when it comes to dog training? Well, dogs are similar to people in that they may react differently to different training techniques based upon their personalities. Also, some dogs will be more difficult and some dogs will be easy going and that is just their own personality. But there are a few basic dog-training concepts that will remain the same regardless of the dog or the training technique.

The most crucial idea when it comes to training a dog is timing. Dogs are not human and they do not comprehend human ideas. All corrections and reinforcements of behavior must be completed instantly. When your dog poops on the floor you need to catch him in the act if you want to fix that behavior. If you don't he will not know why you are correcting him and your correction will go unheeded.

You must be consistent when you are training a dog. Dogs do not comprehend the concept of "sometimes". If you do not want your dog to jump on you when you are wearing your nice business suit then you must never let him jump on you when you are wearing your jeans. If you do not want your dog to chew on your beautiful new and expensive pumps you cannot allow him to chew on your old ratty tennis shoe. With a dog you must be consistent with everything, every time.

Confirm that you offer both praise and correction. Most dogs will learn much quicker and easier when they have praise so make sure that you let him know when he does something right. Correction is also necessary so balance the two.

You ought to be decisive and firm with your dog. When you give him a command he must obey. If he does not follow through then show him but when you speak he must obey every time. A dog does not understand the concept of "sometimes".

Make training fun. You can always play games and have some fun while you are teaching and he is learning. Both of you will appreciate and enjoy it and the bond between you will deepen.

It is critical to be reasonable with your dog. When he clearly comprehends what you are wanting from him he is more likely to comply. If he does not seem to understand you can take more time with him and split your training up into smaller times. Work with him and show him the behavior that you want. Use praise and corrections as required.

As the dogs owner, you have the responsibility of making sure your dog is well trained and well behaved. Take into consideration his own temperament and work with him as necessary.

The American Kennel Club has been around for a lot of years. They offer registration for dogs and can grant a certified electronic or printed document that displays the family of a dog and all the other critical details of the origin of the dog. The American Kennel Club has been the advocate for dog owners and dogs in this country for many years.

There are over 160 breeds of acknowledged purebred dogs that the AKC recognizes. There are the popular breeds that are well-known to nearly everyone like the Labrador Retriever or the Cocker Spaniel and there are some very little known breeds that are much more uncommon like the Borzoi or the Petit Basset Griffon Venden.

The accepted breeds are further broken down into groups, which connote a grouping that fits the distinctiveness of the breed. These groups often point out the intent of the dog and what it was bred for in the past, whether it was for hunting, herding or even just for enjoyment.

The breeds in the sporting group include pointers, retrievers, setters and spaniels. These breeds necessitate regular and revitalizing exercise. They are good at hunting and other field activities and they have many natural instincts for water and woods.

Hounds were bred for hunting in the past. They tend to have enormous resilience and an sharp sense of smell to hunt down their prey. This group would take in Beagles, Basset Hounds and Bloodhounds.

The working group of dogs was originally bred to labor at pulling sleds or performing water rescues. The Terrier Group includes dogs that were originally bred to hunt and kill vermin. Terriers tend to have very spunky and feisty personalities.

The one group that was bred generally as a pet and just for delight is the toy group. Just as their name suggests they tend to be tiny but full of life. Every group has small dogs however so a small dog is not necessarily part of the toy group. Some popular breeds from the toy group are the spunky Chihuahua and the cute and placid Cavalier King Charles spaniel. The non-sporting group is the next group and it includes such breeds as the Dalmatian and the Chow-Chow. The ever-popular Poodle is also part of the non-sporting group.

The herding group is the newest classification that just came about in 1983. These breeds were once part of the working group. These dogs were bred to herd other animals such as cattle or sheep. These include the Corgi and the Shetland Sheepdog. Each group of breeds has their own individual distinctiveness and you need to check them out to see which one appeals to you.

One of the great pleasures of owning a dog is being able to go for a walk. A dog that is well leash trained makes a walk relaxing and pleasurable but if your dog is not leash trained that same walk becomes an exercise in frustration and it can even be dangerous.

Begin training your puppy for leash training when he is very young. The younger he is the more success you will have. The first thing to do is get him used to wearing a collar. He will likely fight it at first so make sure that you make him wear it even if he starts whining. Be sure to remove the collar when you crate him though so you can avoid any mishaps.

After your puppy has grown used to the collar you can start getting him used to the leash. Attach it to the collar and just allow him to drag it around the house. Make sure that you are there to supervise him as he could cause some chaos if the leash gets tangled with anything. Pretty soon you can take the leash and practice walking around in the house with him. It may seem odd to walk your puppy around in the house but you will have success earlier if you start out in a place where he is comfortable and as far as that goes there is no place like home.

When he gets comfortable with the leash in the house you can take him out in your yard. He should still be comfortable but he will have a few more distractions. When you are walking him make sure that you discourage any bad behavior and encourage the better behaviors.

If you puppy is pulling at the leash, just stop walking. Stand still. He may still pull for awhile but if you stop every time he pulls he will soon learn not to do that. Make sure that you are speaking with him and giving him commands, this is a good time for communication.

Another technique you can use when your dog is pulling is to turn and immediately walk the other direction. He will be confused but if you do it every time he will soon learn that pulling is something that you will not put up with. Repeat these techniques until he completely stops pulling on the leash.

Sometimes your puppy will stop himself. If he stops and won't go along on the walk you can use treats as encouragement. Don't call him to you but rather drop the treat by your feet and make him come to it. It may take a few times but soon he will be walking with you instead of sitting behind.

It doesn't take very long to properly leash train a puppy and it is really nice when they walk obediently beside you with a slack leash. This is the behavior you want to reinforce so make sure that he gets ample praise and attention when he starts doing this well. Stop all bad behavior early on and you will soon be enjoying walks with your dog for a long time to come.

If you have a dog, then you already know that it can be very rewarding. However, you also probably know that dog digging can be incredibly annoying to deal with. This nasty habit has driven every dog owner up the wall. These people will most likely spend several weeks ripping their hair out trying to teach themselves how to stop a dog from digging.

If you have lady luck on your side, then you will not have a difficult time stopping your dog from digging. Unfortunately, there are other people that will go through hell and still fail. If you need some additional help, you should carefully read the techniques listed below because they have helped some dog owners succeed and keep their sanity.

One of the most common reasons why your dog digs is because he is bored. This might be the reason if you look around your lawn and you see random holes. You can prevent your dog from getting bored by spending some of your free time with him every day. You can try alleviating your dog's boredom by playing with him or talking to him. If these two things do not work, you can also try petting or brushing your dog.

Some cases of dog digging can also result from the scents coming from your yard. These scents are used by dogs to interact with the surrounding area. Your canine might dig holes in your flower bed or vegetable garden in order to find out a little bit more about these scents.

If you place a sprinkler in your yard, you might be able to stop random holes from showing up in these areas. Just turn on the sprinkler whenever you see your dog digging in an area that you do not want him digging in and the water should have him running scared. He will eventually give up digging in this area if you shower him with water for a long enough time.

If your canine has a digging problem, do not be surprised if you find holes under your fence. It is very common for canine owners to find holes dug under the fence. There are good reasons why your dog wants to dig under the fence.

The first reason is because your canine may want to just go out for a walk which makes sense because all canines want some exercise. A second reason your canine might want to dig a hole under your fence is because your dog might find something in your neighborhood such as another dog or a smell really appealing and want to get to it.

If the holes under your fence are driving you crazy, you will be happy to know that there are some simple solutions for this problem. The easiest and cheapest thing to do is to walk your dog daily around the neighborhood. By letting him explore the surrounding areas, you will give him the opportunity to satisfy his curiosity about another dog or a certain smell.

Taking your dog out on a walk everyday would be a good idea even if he did not dig just because any dog would benefit from some exercise. These walks will also give the both of you some more time alone so that you two could get to know each other better.

If the previous suggestion does not provide a satisfactory solution, then you could try pouring concrete into the base of your fence. The concrete will make a formidable barrier once it dries. He will have a such a difficult time trying to dig through the concrete that he will give up the digging because he will want to save his nails and eventually realize it is an exercise in futility.

How to stop a dog from digging is a common question that many frustrated canine owners will unfortunately have to find an answer to. If you have read this article carefully, then you realize that there are many ways to stop your canine from populating your yard with holes. If the solutions provided by this article do not solve your problem, you might be able to purchase a hardcover book or ebook that will give you the answers you need. There are many resources out there that might be able to provide you with the correct solution. Whether you find it now or later on will depend on how much time you are willing to spend looking for it.

The Bichon Frise is a captivating dog that looks like a puff ball because of its curly hair. Energetic, this lovable, curly-haired dog is smart, bubbly and even-tempered. Its affable character makes it a winner for anybody, young or old, to have as a companion at home. It is believed to be a cross between the Barbet Water Spaniel and the Poodle. It gained popularity as a circus performer and as the organ player's dog!

Compatibility and Usage: Due to his happy disposition, he makes for a complete family dog. The Bichon Frise is not a guard dog nor is it a popular show dog. He loves being indoors but at the same time will love to take a walk outdoors or at a dog park where he will happily make many friends.

Physical Appearance: Most dogs of the breed have the characteristic non-shedding white coat although there are others that display off-white, beige or yellow-orange with dark shades around the ears. Purebreds have a white coat, black or brown eyes with the clearly identifiable mask around the eyes.

Temperament: its overfriendliness with humans including strangers makes the Bichon Frise a poor choice for a guard dog. Nonetheless, its cheerfulness, warm and loving attitude make it very popular as a family dog especially those with small children. Its temperament makes it easy for the Brison Frise to ingratiate itself with humans and even other dogs.

Although they have a streak of stubbornness but it is rarely displayed. Sudden bursts of energetic display is quite common with a Bichon Frise and most of the time you will end up having a laugh especially when they start running after their tail. They are very good around children and elderly people.

Caring & Health: The average lifespan of the Bichon is approximately 12 years. The male Bichon has a maximum height of 12 inches and the female from 9 to 11 inches. Their weights may vary anywhere from 7 to 12 pounds. The Bichon's non-shedding coat calls for regular grooming otherwise it may lead to an assortment of skin allergies and problems.

The only way you can avoid the tangling of the Brison's coat is through regular brushing which makes the dog's coat puffier and more beautiful. Refrain from feeding your dog with high fat foods as this can lead to pancreatitis, very common with this breed of dogs. Regular daily walking exercise with the right type of dog food is enough to keep the dog healthy.

The breed is also susceptible to skin irritations and allergy if hygienic practice is not done regularly. In their old age, they may also contract eye cataract and senility. Ear infections are also common but a regular bath and cleaning of the ear area is enough preventive measure. The Bichon would certainly make any member of the family happy and contented with its cute and cuddly appearance and playful attitude.

When looking for tips and tricks on dog potty training, it is important to know that you are not alone in your efforts to try to keep your dog from using the bathroom in your house. It can be very irritating to have an animal that simply doesn't seem to learn where they need to go when it's time to eliminate.

Children need to be potty trained and so do dogs. However, a dog's potty is the great outdoors. There are many different methods that you can use to house train a dog. The one that you use will depend on your own dog's personality and how comfortable you feel with the method as their owner.

Some people use puppy pads as a way of getting the dog to know where to go. They move the puppy pads closer and closer to the door until the dog finally figures out that they need to go to the door when it's time to use the bathroom. However, these kinds of methods don't always work for every dog.

When it comes to potty training a dog, finding just the right method is crucial. There many different online programs that owners can use to potty train their dog. Doing some research to find a method that will work is important because you wanted to be something that you will stick with until the dog is trained.

Physical punishment should never be a part of your training method as dogs do not respond well to physical punishment. It does not create a good relationship between the owner and the canine if the dog is always fearful. Also, dogs respond well to praise because they want to please their owners so it makes sense to use that kind of a method.

One of the most important parts of training a new puppy is taking them outside on a regular basis. If the dog learns that they go to the bathroom at certain times of the day, they will be much more likely to retain the information and keep that same schedule. You can also start using a word such as potty to let them know that when you say that it is time to go outside. There are so many tips and tricks on dog potty training that you can find, but the key is finding the one that you feel will work for your situation.
