A new puppy brings to mind lots of wrestling, romping, and playing with an energetic ball of fur. It also makes people think of chewing, jumping, and little messes about the house that need to be cleaned up. Training a puppy takes time and lots of patience. Being repetitious in your actions and reinforcing good behavior is going to be the quickest way to teach this little guy the proper way to behave. The puppy training tips listed below should help you get started.
Housebreaking: This is probably the most trying form of puppy training that will take place. There is a lot of one on one time needed to make this process as effective as it can be. People who are able to monitor their puppy all day long will use the method of watching for when the pup's nose goes to the ground.
This generally means he is searching for a place to go to the bathroom. As soon as the pup looks like he is looking for a good spot to relieve himself, pick him up and take him outside. Remain outside until he does his business and praise him after he is finished.
People who use this method watch for signs of bathroom searching and immediately take the pup outside. As soon as his nose goes to the ground, you might only have a few seconds before he starts to leave a puddle.
Dogs don't usually make a mess where they sleep, so this area should be relatively safe from being used as a bathroom facility. Taking the puppy out of the crate every hour to go to the bathroom outside is often very effective. It's a good idea to not leave him in the crate for longer than two hours at a time. Once he's done his business outside, then he can romp around the house for a bit before he is placed back in the kennel.
Chewing: Problem chewing can be solved by having plenty of chew toys available for your new puppy. Sometimes sore gums is an issue and is why chewing starts. Having a clean sock in the freezer that is filled with some crushed ice is a great treat for soothing sore gums.
Excessive chewing usually means that his gums are feeling a bit sore. A great remedy for sore puppy gums is by providing a sock with crushed ice in it. This can be placed in the freezer when he isn't using it.
A daily routine is going to help a lot with housebreaking; taking him outside as soon as you get up, right before bed, and 20 to 30 minutes after he eats, will be times that he will become familiar with. Once he knows that these times are set, his body will adjust to them as well. Consistency with chewing issues, as well as housebreaking, is going to make these puppy training tips much more valuable. Don't let frustration get the better of you and think about how well-adjusted this little guy will be in the future, form all your hard work.

It's important for all dogs to be properly trained. This is not only going to mean a better, easier life for dog and owner but also prevent the dog from getting in fights or being put down as a result of a situation in which they were disobedient. For anyone who's interested in getting into the dog training business there are a few important steps they'll need to follow to have the best chances of success. First you need to decide how large you want your business to be, whether you want to rent out a space or just run the business from home.
One of the most common problems that house dogs have is they go to the bathroom inside of the home. This is a very common problem among dogs and although it can be frustrating you need to have patience. Especially if the dog is quite young, six months or less, the problem could just be temporary. Puppies actually don't have full control of their bowels until they are over six months so this may be a very simple problem and you'll just have to continue working on it with them.
It's important to have the right supplies on hand if you're going to be a dog trainer. This means everything from dog treats to dog squeaky toys so you have things to use for the dogs to play with and items to use as positive reinforcement. It's always important to use effective marketing techniques when you own a business and the same goes for any dog training business. You could design some flyers and post them up around your city or create a website that people can visit online.
In order for any business to have success, effective marketing strategies must be enforced. You can even get business by word of mouth when you visit your local dog grooming stations, vet clinics and even parties or get togethers of your friends and family. Always treat every dog special and be nice to them. Some dogs are going to present more of a challenge than others, so patience is another quality you must have.
Anxiety in a dog can be hard to deal with and especially if you're training them for a competition. With these dog training aids you can teach them how to be a well behaved dog. The Homeopet Anxiety formula is completely natural and safe for your dog so you don't need to worry about any unpleasant or otherwise unfavorable side effects. It's important to take a look at your options and figure out which training aids are going to be suitable for your dog and situation.

Although some dogs are natural swimmers, not all are, which makes it important that you take the time to teach your dog to swim. Not only is it good for bonding but can be fun for both of you. Here are some useful tips on teaching your dog to swim.
1. Making use of a life jacket.
Using a dog life jacket serves two main purposes. Firstly it will give your dog buoyancy. This buoyancy will help your dog to float and make learning to swim a lot easier for him. It will also reduce the amount of fatigue your dog experiences and keep him warm in the water. Most dog life jackets also have a carry handle at the top. This enable you to grab the handle and help lift your dog out of the water. This is vital if your dog gets panicked or becomes fatigued.
2. Getting in the water with your dog.
Being in the water with your dog helps you with keeping a close eye on him whilst in the water. it very much the same way as if you were teaching a young child to swim. Being in the water at the same time allows you to encourage your dog more and guide them. It also enable you to quickly lift him out of the water if he runs into difficulties. Large dogs may need more than one of you in the water at the same time to help lift him out.
3. Start small initially.
If you have your own swimming pool, then this is an ideal way of introducing him to water. He can go in feet first and slowly move out until all his body becomes wet. Throwing your dog into water and hoping for the best is a very bad idea. This can lead to a life long fear of water in your dog.
4. Short periods of time.
When swimming, a dog uses a lot of energy and also loses a lot of heat in the water. Dogs that are bred to spend a lot of time i water usually have thick fur and a large. This minimizes their heat loss. To prevent your dog from developing hypothermia, keep swimming sessions short, dry your dogs fur afterwards and follow up by wrapping in a blanket.
5. Have fun.
Dogs love nothing more than joining in with his family, jumping and playing about in the water. Make the whole water experience fun. This can be achieved by playing games in the water, giving encouragement and even giving treats. This will encourage him to spend time in water as he will associate the experience with having a good time.

Housetraining is usually the first thing that a new puppy owner thinks about. Few puppies have received any training on housetraining before they go to their new homes. There are two simple methods that you can use to housetrain your puppy and you can use either one of them or you can use both of them at the same time.
The first way to train your puppy is to be very attentive and watch his behavior. Puppies will crouch to urinate and defecate. You must watch your puppy very attentively and as soon as he starts to change his stance then scoop him up and take him to his selected spot. If you happen to fail to notice the sign and he has an mishap, you should never reprimand him as he is still just learning and he does not know what is expected of him yet. Scolding him will just terrify him unreasonably.
If you happen to miss the signs fully and you come across an disaster soon after, do not discipline him. Dogs can only connect to what is happening at this moment and he will not know why he is in trouble if you reprimand him after the fact. This will just serve to confound your puppy and that will cause you more problems in the future.
The second approach to housetrain your puppy is to use a newspaper method. Start by covering the whole floor of the space where your puppy runs around. He will learn that the paper is an okay place to do his business. In stages reduce the newspapers in the room, making it smaller and smaller until there is only a small spot left. Then you can take that small piece of newspaper outside to his designated spot and he will start going there.
Either of these methods can work well. You may want to use both methods at the same time by using attention during the day and the newspapers at night. When you are active or preoccupied by other things, the paper system may work better.
Occasionally a puppy will go through a stage where he seems to "unlearn" all that you thought he already knew. This is a regular incident even though it can be very maddening. Do not penalize him for it.
You can use his own intrinsic dog behavior to get him back on track. A dog will not foul in his own space. Use a crate and make it comfy for him. Let him nap in his crate and when you let him out, straight away take him to his chosen spot. He will have to relieve himself straight away and he will quickly learn that this is the only suitable spot to do his business.
Housetraining does not need to be frightening or intimidating. Either or both of these two methods along with some persistence can have your new puppy housetrained before you know it.

If there exists something that most puppy owners will relate to it will be the experience connected with attempting to potty train a new puppy who has no clue with regards to the appropriate place to use the bathroom and also teaching the pup to become a dependable pet to make use of the bathroom in the proper area and at the appropriate times.
Potty training a puppy is also the most frequent area when lots of dog owners initiate the wrong kinds of teaching practices. It is this situation whereby people can use a few common sense ideas to get their puppies swiftly presented to the proper way to use the bathroom.
The very first thing you will need to be aware of is that most dogs possess a normal instinct to avoid messing the area where they sleep and also eat. Obviously brand new puppies may not get it right away, but it really isn't going to require much time for them to understand that they do not need to pee or produce stools where they live and play.
Let us discuss a few housebreaking strategies that you may utilize today which will help get your puppy on his way to getting effectively trained whenever he has to use the bathroom:
1. Whenever you rise each day, refrain from praising or greeting your puppy before he has used the bathroom. This will develop into a new habit for him as soon as your dog realizes that he will get lots of nurturing attention and also praise following using the bathroom every day, this routine should remain in his brain and he is going to recognize what to do in order to get precisely what he needs, and that is your praise!
2. When preparing to take your puppy outdoors or wherever it is you wish your pet to use the bathroom, adhere to applying only one command any time you guide your pet towards the potty place. For example, I utilize the phrase "Go pee pee".
3. Whichever way you are taking whenever you direct him from your household to his potty location, make use of this exact same path each and every time you take your pet to make use of the bathroom. This will help to develop a pattern so he knows that it is time to go to the bathroom when you're walking your pet through the same route.
4. Of course, it should go without stating you'll want to utilize plenty of encouragement and supportive caresses whenever your dog properly utilizes the bathroom inside the specified spot. It's essential to guide him to associate housebreaking with a positive experience plus showering him together with love and affection is the correct way to do it.
Should you keep to the above guidelines, potty training a puppy ought to become a beneficial experience for both you and the pup.

Puppies and dogs are inborn pack animals and most of their conduct reflects that fact. The most notable thing to do when you get a new puppy is to set up your control. You are the "pack leader" and you must always make sure that your puppy knows that.
Puppies will expend a significant amount of time trying to figure out where they fit into the pecking order. They usually do this by trying to create their own authority. Some breeds are more assertive than others, for case, the terrier breeds. Some of the other breeds tend to be more dutiful naturally.
Immediately when your puppy comes home he needs to have his status in the chain of command established. He needs to be discerning that you and all of the individual family members in your home are domineering over him. This is not a matter of punishment but it is something that must occur if he is to become a contented and obedient member of your household.
In order to institute the dominance you must stick to a few easy rules. If not your puppy will be getting mixed signals and it will be more demanding for you to train him and he will be bewildered as to what you really want.
The leader must always eat first. Do not let your puppy eat before you eat. If you are planning on eating about the same time as you plan to feed your puppy, you need to make your puppy wait until you are done. Or you can have your puppy eat at a complete separate time than you eat. In the beginning you may want to call your puppy to you to get his food and make him wait before you give it to him. You can teach him to sit and then give him his food.
Grooming your puppy can send potent signals about who is in charge. At the beginning your puppy may whimper and wail when you touch him for basic grooming however you must take no notice of him and be firm on finishing. Every time follow through on what you start because puppies understand very rapidly if you really mean something or not.
When puppies are little they use their mouths to nip and bite at things. You must stop this behavior at once by giving him a sharp "No" and a tap if required. The leader of the pack never allows nipping and you are the leader of the pack.
It is critical with a new puppy to show him that you are dominant so try to avoid games like "tug'o'war" where he can get forceful and show too much control. Make sure that you reward his good behavior with praise and treats but just pay no heed to his bad behavior as you start obedience training. Keep these easy rules in mind and you can immediately train your puppy to be a good and obedient dog.

So you have a dog with a little bit of a problem. You've seen these guys on TV pushing their products and they make it look so easy, so now you're wondering: is a dog training DVD a good way to learn? Well, the answer is yes, if you are willing to put in the time and patience.
There are many reasons that people don't want to go to a trainer. First, and foremost is the expense. A good trainer will not be cheap. If they're cheap they can't be that good, and this is an area that you don't want to skimp on.
If you are considering taking classes, think it through. There is the drive time (hopefully, your dog's problem doesn't involve car rides), and the loading and unloading no matter what the weather. If you're unlucky, it will rain on class night and you get to smell wet dog in your car, plus after they get out. And remember, if you go to class you are on their time then, not yours. If you can't make a class, will it throw you behind? How fast can you get in? What if one of the dogs there transforms into a demon when your dog enters the room? And if the class doesn't work out you will probably not be eligible for a refund.
Another great thing about doing your dog training by DVD is that it will save you time and money. As far as time goes, you won't have to drive back and forth to see a dog trainer and spend hours of your time away from home. It will save you money because you won't have to pay for private trainer to help you with your dog.
Another great thing about training DVDs is that you can go back and review the material as often as you wish. We all know that training and all practice and repetition, so having the DVDs on hand will allow you to run through the motions of each session in the time you wish.
So, if you want to know if a dog training DVD a good way to learn, it really depends on what you consider a good use of your time. You can either spend it carting your canine back and forth to class, or you spend that time more wisely in the comfort of your own home.

Your dog wants to be trained. He will be much happier and greatly more at ease the better trained that he is. You will as well enjoy him more. Dogs are pack animals and they obtain pleasure from following the leader of the pack. You just need to make sure that the boss or the "alpha dog" is you.
Dogs that are not trained for obedience are commonly much more edgy and rambunctious because they do not know precisely what it expected of them. A dog is tends to be much happier and more contented when he knows accurately what they need to do at all times. A subservient dog is not just happier but he is safer, too.
You can take advantage of various ways to train your dog. There are loads of books and videos out there and you can also find some impressive online courses. Just about every city also has proficient dog trainers and dog obedience programs that you can go to also.
All dogs need to embark on their training as soon as they come home. Even older dogs need to start training, as the old myth; "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is not accurate. Every dog will act in response to constructive reinforcement and every dog will want to please the boss or the "alpha dog".
The most victory in dog training comes when you include education in playtime and just have fun. You are still teaching vital lessons but you both are enjoying the time you spend and you are not placing stress on your dog by forcing things. All dogs are different and your dog may learn some things very quickly while other things take more time. Just get pleasure from the process and both of you will profit.
Affirmative reinforcement for sought after actions from your dog is critical. Employ both praise or treats but make positive that you acknowledge your dog when he does something right. Timing is also imperative. You must give the praise immediately after the performance so that he will link the good feelings with the good actions. The same holds true for any type of reprimand also.
A dog cannot reason and he can only associate positive or negative reinforcement with what is happening at the moment. If you reprimand your dog now for something that he did an hour ago, it is absolutely futile and it will only serve to scare him pointlessly because he won't realize your reasoning.
The very most imperative thing that you need to be attentive of when you are training a dog is that you and all of the human being members of your family need to outrank him in the pack order. You must be the chief or the "alpha dog". You can promptly bolster this in his mind if you rub his belly as soon as he turns over. He will have to surrender to you and he will then consider you as the leader. All of your teaching will be easier if you are established in his mind as the leader.

Housebreaking a puppy often takes a lot of time. It is important to understand that the learning skills of your puppy can be very different from the skills of another; therefore, training should not be rushed.
It is thought that the best approach to housebreaking a puppy is to set, and stick to, a simple routine. If you are consistent with your training methods, you will find that your puppy will learn faster and better; soon enough he will defecate and urinate on his own.
The next step you need to take to housebreak your puppy is to determine the area of your yard that will become the dogs potty area. This is where your puppy will do all of its training as this is going to be your puppy's comfort zone.
What you need to do is take your little dog to the potty area every day. When it begins to urinate or defecate, give the puppy a treat, or show it some love. This is necessary to give your pet the cue that it is doing what you want and that you are pleased with its behavior.
Talk to your puppy as much as you can whilst its in the potty area, using phrases like 'go pee' and 'go poo'. Keep the phrases short and simple, and use a consistent tone, and your puppy will quickly learn to recognize what you are saying.
Another important consideration to take into account is the puppy's feeding schedule. Housebreaking a puppy can definitely be made easier if he has a consistent feeding schedule.
Feed your puppy according to a schedule so that you can start to learn its bowel and urine habits. You decrease the likelihood of your puppy defecating or urinating inside the house if you know when it is going to have to relieve itself.

An increasing number of dog owners appear to prefer training schools, more than the do-it-yourself strategy. Dog training schools can be very costly. However, in the event you are lacking the needed expertise, or the time to dedicate for this activity, these types of schools can be found to carry out every thing for you.
Training schools for most dogs have begun appearing throughout nearly every town over North America and also Europe. Adding quite a bit of hype as well as pitch to their claims, many actually offer you all your money back if they don't do well. Some of these schools may be the sole option for pet owners, whose lack of experience leaves them no other solution.
Several pet owners assert that the amount of money charged by these schools is excessive and unjustified. Nevertheless, if perhaps you take an instant thinking about the actual expenses, including nutrition, equipment, and also training locale, you'd soon come to realize not all the actual fees go into their - the company - purses. There are essential costs, as well as the job salaries for seasoned dog handlers. Seeing as a background check happens to be performed on the trainer, exactly what better place will there be for your dog to find out to behave?
Be ready to face the consequences with taking your dog to training school. Certain dogs could feel the stress piling up and act accordingly. Equip yourself with a bag and also a scoop, as these will be the most usual indications of tension. Continue to keep your dog on a lead, and notice just what interests him or her and what doesn't. It is likely they might not like some of his fellow schoolmates a lot and would like to do something about it.
Ultimately, never pass on a bad attitude toward the animal, attempt to relax and enjoy your self and the dog should probably do precisely the same. Always keep your pet amused by drawing their focus towards you, at least until he or she has had a chance to become familiar with the atmosphere.
With fresh laws coming forth relating to public behavior regarding dogs, training classes are the final and only useful resource for some pet owners. For breeds for example the Boxer, or the Pit Bull, dog keepers will want to place more caution on their instruction so that it will save their dog from being put to sleep by local authorities should anything terrible happen.

Do you have to put your dog away when visitors come to your house in the fear of your dog jumping on someone? Do you get greeted at the door with sharp paws and a slobbery wet kiss everyday after a long day at work? No matter how ofter you scold or punish your dog, does he keep jumping up on you and others when you walk though the door? A dog jumping up on you and your visitors is a very common problem and one that can be eliminated rather quickly if you know what to do.
Unintentionally you may have encourage this behavior for the start. You see when a new puppy comes into our lives they are cute and cuddly, they meet us with excitement and come running. And what is our natural reaction to this? Well, we bend down and pet them or pick them up.
You have just taught your puppy a very important lesson, "when I jump up on my owners leg he/she gives me love!" Fast foreword a few months and now that once small little puppy is 3, 4, maybe 5 times the size he once was. He doesn't understand the difference, he just wants the love that he knows how to get by jumping on you.
Before we move on to how to stop dogs jumping on you, let me make it clear that there are two main reasons why a dog may jump on you.
The first being out of extreme excitement. Usually rejoicing after a long absents from you.(come home from work)
The second and much more serious reason why some dogs jump on people is to show dominance. Dominance issues are a more complicated problem of communication and attitude. Dominance, If let unchecked for too long could really be difficult to over come. If you feel that you may be dealing with a dog that is jumping on people to display dominance, I suggest that you brush up on your alpha dog skills.
Your success in stop dog jumping will depend greatly on how you react to this problem. You must make a committed effort as with any dog training to be consistent. You have to make it clear to your dog that jumping on people is no longer allowed what so ever.
What this means is you are going to fallow though with the same training all the time every day until he masters this new behavior. You can't expect your dog to know the difference between nice cloths and play cloths, muddy paws and clean paws or play time and greeting time. If you let him jump in one situation he will think it's ok to jump when ever he feels like it.
Most professional trainers agree that the most effective way is also the easiest way to stop unwanted behavior (such as jumping) in your dog is to ignore him whenever he jumps. No need to yell or correct, although that is usually the first thing that comes to mind when your dog just ruined another pair of nylons or scratch one of your children. You must ignore the bad behavior.
When your dog goes to jump on you, turn your back on him right away. Dogs understand body language much more than the spoken word. So, what you need to do here is use your posture to get your message though loud and clear. As soon as he gets his paws are back on the ground, reward him with praise. If he gets excited again and goes to jump, turn your back, head and eyes away from him (the cold shoulder). You can repeat this cycle several times in a matter of seconds. Don't concern yourself with confusing your dog because they can only comprehend your reaction to their given behavior at that moment. Continue this training technique for the next several days and soon your dog will stop jumping on you.
Like people, dogs have personalities and every dog has a different personality. Training a dog can be a challenging and frustrating experience. It doesn't have to be. It is always exciting to get a new puppy but you will want to be prepared to guide your puppy and teach him to be a cherished part of your family. Before you bring your new puppy to your place there are a few items that you will need to consider. It is easier to have the stuff that you will need on hand rather than to try to get them later on.
There is an large quantity of things that you can get for your new puppy. Some of these things are practical and helpful to have and others are not really required.
The most important item that you need to have is a crate. All of your training will go better if you use a crate. Also dogs like to have their own space that is pleasant and comfortable for them. Make sure that you get the appropriate size, not too huge and not too little. You may want two if you take your dog in the auto very often.
A collar and a leash are also crucial. Get one everyday collar that fits well and save any special training collars for later. One six-foot, perhaps retractable leash that is comfortable for your hand is also necessary.
Try to find out what your puppy is used to eating and get enough of that for a couple of weeks. All dietary changes should be made little by little. Get a food and water dish also. Stainless steel is typically the best.
For training purposes, you will need some type of aversive, or something that you can use do dissuade unmanageable behavior. An aversive is something that your dog does not like and will work to stay away from but something that will not hurt him. A clicker that makes a noise or a squirt bottle will act as an aversive. You will also need some soft treats that you can use as a reward in training.
Young puppies need to chew until they get a tad bigger so you will want to have some chew toys on hand. Start out with just a few until you know what your puppy likes. Same with other toys do not load up on toys until you know your puppy's personality.
The first few days after you bring your puppy home will be easier if you have the things that you need on hand. You will want to start training right away so it will be easier if you are geared up.

Are you ready for Puppy Training 101? To begin with, you will need three specific pieces of accessories to be able to properly teach your puppy: a training dog collar, a leather training leash, as well as a 15-foot length clothesline rope.
If you're already considering that your puppy's current leather dog collar will work, and that his 4-foot chain lead will probably be all you need, you may as well end reading this article and save yourself as well as your puppy weeks of uncomfortableness plus hardship. There basically is no substitute for the right training equipment. A training collar is really a slip-chain type constructed of metal. You should not substitute one that's made of nylon.
One of the numerous things an individual's puppy will almost certainly understand is to have assurance in you. However he will never develop that feeling of trust in the event you substitute inappropriate training products that are not efficient. When there's no confidence there can be no respect, and no respect means no want to please. No need to please indicates no enthusiasm to learn. Add them all up and you have got an unmanageable puppy which will never realize his rightful place in the human world.
The Proper Leash
Your leash should be of the regular five to six foot leather type with a hand loop at one end. Training dog collars and also leather training leads can be purchased from pet specialists and also via online catalogs. Training collars are sometimes called choke-chains, which is incorrect. While it's true that a training collar can choke, if it's worn on the puppy correctly and used properly, there's no way it can be a choke-chain and cause harm to your pet.
The Right Collar
The collar should be large enough to slide over the puppy's head comfortably, but not so large as to fall over the ears if the puppy should lower his head. A good rule of thumb to follow is to place the collar on the puppy and cinch it up tight for a moment and observe whether you have three inches of chain left over. If so, you have a fairly good fit. It is better to have a training collar that's slightly too large than one slightly too small.
Final Puppy Training Necessities That You Cannot Find In A Store
The remaining equipment that you'll need cannot be purchased at any store, but without them, you cannot successfully train your puppy.
You must love and care for your puppy! You must have patience and exercise patience while your puppy is learning. A shallow persistence put together along with a short temper could assure total and utter failure
To lose your cool and blow up means the end of training, so here's a little tip that might help you keep your cool:
It takes 4 to 5 days for an average puppy to learn the average thing. Do not expect your puppy to perform like a professional the first few days of teaching him something new. It just doesn't happen that way. If you lose control of yourself, you have lost control of the situation. When this happens, your puppy loses confidence in you.
I hope you have enjoyed the first lesson in Puppy Training 101!

Spaying or neutering your dog is not only a wise way to avoid litters of puppies, but it is positive for your puppy's health. Also, it will eradicate many aggression complications and you will have less behavior difficulties.
To be able to keep your dog's attention you can do things that he enjoys but you must also reward him for small successes. Do not proffer a food reward every time, however, because intermittent reinforcement is actually much more effective than constant reinforcement because he never knows when he will get the treat so he will keep doing the behavior on the hope that he will get the food reward. Also too many food treats can be bad for your dog's health and weight. However, love and attention should be consistently given.
A treat does not essentially have to be food. It can be a walk in the park, playing in the yard, riding in the car or even just a hug and pat on the head. Love and affection should not be withdrawn, as your dog will do just about anything for that alone. This is a great way to sustain your dog's motivation to satisfy you.
Be watchful of distractions during your training sessions. Your dog must learn to pay no heed to the distractions and obey your commands. Give love and attention and rewards when his attention is only on you. As your training progresses you should go to more and more locations where there are probable distractions so that he learns to put his attention where you want it to be.
You can get started training your dog right now. Take a look at the many dog-training programs and find the one that you feel the most at ease with, then just sign up, download it to your computer, and start training your dog right away.
Dog training will take time, patience and energy. But there is no way to get out of doing it and still have a well-mannered and well-adjusted dog. If you can't do it yourself you should probably go ahead and employ a expert, but do be aware that that option will end up costing you quite a bit more money.

If you are thinking of buying a dog cage, I am sure you have probably found it quite confusing. The reason for this is that there are so man available for the small, decorative, cute models, that look more like a piece of furniture, to the larger, heavier duty travel dog cages.
The folding wire cages are one of the most popular and usually cheapest models around. They are very useful for crate training your dog and for travelling. They are open on all sides which can be a disadvantage as it does not provide a quiet area for your pet to retreat to. This can be remedied though by simply placing a blanket over the cage.
Another type to consider is the increasingly popular soft dog cage. They are durable but may cause a problem if your dog is a chewer or is going to get much bigger than his current size. They look cute, often come in bright colors and are more ideal for the smaller breeds of dog.
The next type is the wicker dog cage, which is one of my favorites. It will often blend in with the furniture at home and so is ideal if you plan on keeping the cage indoors. As with the soft type of cage, these types are best suited to small dogs.
The most common type of cage used for transporting dogs is the plastic dog cage, which has a door at the front and air vents on the top and along the sides. These types are often a little more expensive than the other models available. Therefore, it is worthwhile buying one that is also an airline approved carrier, in case you decide to travel by air at a later date. I would advise this type of cage over the wire variety for travelling in a car.
When finally going out and buying your new dog cage you also need to consider the size of your dog, his tendencies and habits. If you have a large dog or one that is a chewer, especially if he is going to spend a lot of time in the cage, I would recommend a plastic one.
Whichever type of cage you decide to buy, it is important to remember that this is your dogs new home. He should see this as somewhere that provides him with security and somewhere quiet to rest.
Fran writes many articles on car dog cages and about training your dog with small dog cages.

It is a immense choice to make when you come to a decision to get a new puppy. Most of the dog breeds live between 10 and 15 years so your new pet will be with you for quite awhile. That is why the decision should not be taken frivolously.
Before looking at puppies you should try to spend some time with an adult dog of the chosen breed. Talk to breeders, local dog obedience trainers and other owners.
Your puppy will develop up to be an grown-up dog so as you decide on a breed make sure that you spend some time with some grown dogs from that breed. Talk to people who have possession of that breed or are familiar with the breed such as breeders at dog shows and local dog obedience trainers. If doable spend some time with some grown-up dogs of the sort.
Unique breeds have diverse distinctiveness that you will need to take into consideration. Some dog's shed and some dogs make a big noise called "baying". Make sure that the breed you choose has qualities that you can live with. If you cannot stand dog hair on your furniture or you or a family member is allergic you will want to think about a dog that will not shed. If your family is laid back and easy going you may not want to get a energetic and rambunctious little terrier.
Those who work with animal's day in and day out like veterinarians and the people who work in their office can usually give you quite a bit of helpful information on the breed that you are considering. If there are latent health tribulations that tend to show up in the breed it is nice to know that before you see the puppies.
You will also need to do some investigation into breed particular ailments. Certain breeds are prone to different genetic problems such as cleft palate, hip dysplasia or in the case of the lovable little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, heart mitral valve disease.
If you want some really invaluable and fair-minded information talk with one or more dog obedience instructors. They usually have a abundance of great information that they can give you on the diverse breeds and what to look for when choosing a puppy.
For a lot of years to come your new puppy will with any luck be a much-loved member of your family. You need to amass some sound information and use that to choose your puppy and not just the "puppy love" that we all tend to go through around sweet little puppies. Every puppy will grow out of that really cute state and the adult dog is the one who will be your pet for years to come.

Training your new Golden Retriever should be considered an absolute must for your new pet. Goldens, of course, are naturally affectionate, but an untrained one can be difficult to manage. Keep in mind that once fully grown, a Golden Retriever can be upwards of 80 pounds, enough to knock an adult down.
Goldens are natural jumpers, of course. In fact their preference is to greet newcomers face to face, and this is where basic training comes in. A good dose of repetitive training helps instill good habits in your Golden Retriever early on.
Golden Retrievers are very receptive to training. But owners should plan on dedicating the time and patient effort to make training permanent. Golden Retriever training can be a great experience and will pay dividends in the long run. Your dog wants to please you, after all, so the training experience, while taxing at times, should be a rewarding one.
Here's a quick technique for training puppies that love to chew. Golden's are retrievers, after all, and spend lots of time "sampling" everything from your new sandals to your unprotected arm. Designate some specific chew toys for your Golden early on. Also, be sure to trash toys that have become damaged during play. You don't want your Golden Retriever swallowing the actual squeaking part that come out of those toys. A firm "No!" will usually stop inappropriate chewing. Be sure to then replace the inappropriate item with a designated toy. Be consistent with this training and always lavish praise on a Golden Retriever that has done well.
Pay special attention to your Golden's exercise needs, which are ample. Golden Retrievers need lots of room to run. Without this crucial exercise time your Golden will surely find other means to unwind, and your personal belongings will most certainly be victimized by a dog who just needs to get out and run around. And unless you can get them outside to run every day, Golden's really aren't meant for the type of cramped conditions that most apartments offer.

It is always an exhilarating stretch when a new dog joins your family. Whether you get a new puppy or an older dog this is the time when you want to make sure that you are doing whatever you can to socialize your new family member. It is better for everyone if you do what you can to socialize your new dog because he is likely to come upon several new and uncommon situations during his life and he needs to realize early on how to respond in healthy and suitable way.
New puppies can start off getting socialized as early as 2 to 3 weeks after birth. Most adopted puppies join their new family at about 7 to 8 weeks of age. The socialization of a puppy should commence as near the beginning as possible. However puppies tend to be more afraid and tentative until the time that they are 14 weeks old so during the initial days make sure that you are gentle with them.
Socialization is a ability that should be trained throughout a dog's life. Different situations and circumstances can affect a dog and he can change from warm and outgoing to nervous, afraid or even threatening. That is why it is essential to train in socialization skills throughout your dog's life. Permit him to experience a range of situations, different people and other animals.
Let your dog become familiar with other dogs and other animals. You can take him to a park or a doggie daycare or even just go to see friends who have pets. Be sure that your dog has had all of his shots first but it is critical for his socialization to meet up with others.
People who appear to your dwelling frequently should all be familiar to your dog. That would include the mailperson. Introduce them and let your dog get familiar. If it is feasible make sure that you take your dog around many diverse people, as it will increase his social skills immensely.
Dogs are natural pack animals and they will reconstruct the pack in their new home. This means that it is critical that humans are always seen as the prevailing member of the pack. When a human speaks the dog should mind, every time, no matter what. The dog is the follower and the humans are the leaders.
Socialization should carry on throughout the life of your dog. Your dog needs to frequently come across new situations and new people and animals. He will be less prone to develop troubles like biting and fighting if he is well socialized.
Your dog training will be more successful and you and other people will like your pet more if he is correctly socialized and well-behaved in the majority of situations.

Undoubtedly, there is nothing quite as cute as a new puppy. But let's face facts. Not everything about a puppy is cute. As is true with a human toddler, puppies have to be potty-trained, or house-broken, if you will. If you want to make sure to properly house-break your new puppy, you have to do the job the right way from the very start. The first thing you should do is to take your puppy out to the back yard, if you have one, and let him stay there until he does his business. Let him know how pleased you are with the good job he's done. This should be done about every two hours.
When house training, it is important to remember to feed the puppy in its crate and then carry it outside shortly after eating to let it go to the bathroom. It is very important that you remember to carry him or her and then set them in the grass.
When you carry him outside, make sure to set him on the grass. The puppy should feel grass under him so that he can get used to the idea that this is the proper place to do his business. If you think he's taking too much of his own sweet time in doing what he has to do, try walking around a little so that the puppy will follow you. Walking sometimes loosens him up and makes it easier for him to go.
Remember also to take your puppy outside again just before bedtime. If he cries during the night, it may be that he needs a bathroom break. Take him outside if that's the case.
If you take the puppy out in the middle of the night, put them back into the crate after. Do not get it too excited because it may not want to go back to sleep. Give it a few days and soon the puppy will start to sleep through the night.
One common trick when house training is to have a piece of newspaper down on the floor if the puppy does go inside. Try and help the puppy to associate the newspaper with a place to go to the bathroom if it can't make it outside. Slowly move the newspaper closer and closer to the door, and eventually the puppy will get the trick.
Finally, it is very important to reward your puppy for being good. If your puppy does his business properly outside, show him how happy you are or give him a treat for a job well-done.
Remember to only reward the puppy only when they have been good. After time it will come natural to them and they will know what needs to be done for a treat.

If you are trying to find the right dog training book, you might not really know where to begin with all of the options that are available. The unfortunate fact is that many people write books by just throwing together rehashed information instead of coming up with something new. However, there are some books which are full of valuable information if you know where to look.
One of the best places to find a dog training book is by looking online. E-books contain the most up-to-date information because they are so easy to edit. Physical books can go out of date quickly, so finding an online e-book can provide you with instant information that you're looking for.
Before choosing a dog training method, it is important to consider the type of breed you are trying to train. Dog breeds have specific characteristics that are ingrained in them due to their genetic heritage. Therefore, it is advisable to find a dog training book that is specific to the breed you are working with.
As an example, Jack Russell terriers were bred to chase foxes which means that their noses sometimes take precedence over their brain. Beagles suffer from the same issue. Therefore, it makes sense to use training methods that are specific to these kinds of dog breeds and can overcome their intuitive sense of smell.
Before you purchase any kind of a dog training book, you want to first be sure that you have read over the material and know whether or not you will be comfortable with the training style being suggested. It is important that you can follow through with the training methods in the book.
Another thing to consider is who actually wrote the book that you are thinking of buying. You want to make sure that the author actually has experience with what they are writing about and is not simply putting together information in book form.
No matter what dog training method you use, you want to make sure that it does not include punishment. Disciplining a dog is a good idea, but punishment is not. It breaks down the relationship between the owner and the pet. You can find the right dog training book if you keep these tips in mind.

How crucial is a dog's own disposition and personality when it comes to dog training? Well, dogs are similar to people in that they may react differently to different training techniques based upon their personalities. Also, some dogs will be more difficult and some dogs will be easy going and that is just their own personality. But there are a few basic dog-training concepts that will remain the same regardless of the dog or the training technique.
The most crucial idea when it comes to training a dog is timing. Dogs are not human and they do not comprehend human ideas. All corrections and reinforcements of behavior must be completed instantly. When your dog poops on the floor you need to catch him in the act if you want to fix that behavior. If you don't he will not know why you are correcting him and your correction will go unheeded.
You must be consistent when you are training a dog. Dogs do not comprehend the concept of "sometimes". If you do not want your dog to jump on you when you are wearing your nice business suit then you must never let him jump on you when you are wearing your jeans. If you do not want your dog to chew on your beautiful new and expensive pumps you cannot allow him to chew on your old ratty tennis shoe. With a dog you must be consistent with everything, every time.
Confirm that you offer both praise and correction. Most dogs will learn much quicker and easier when they have praise so make sure that you let him know when he does something right. Correction is also necessary so balance the two.
You ought to be decisive and firm with your dog. When you give him a command he must obey. If he does not follow through then show him but when you speak he must obey every time. A dog does not understand the concept of "sometimes".
Make training fun. You can always play games and have some fun while you are teaching and he is learning. Both of you will appreciate and enjoy it and the bond between you will deepen.
It is critical to be reasonable with your dog. When he clearly comprehends what you are wanting from him he is more likely to comply. If he does not seem to understand you can take more time with him and split your training up into smaller times. Work with him and show him the behavior that you want. Use praise and corrections as required.
As the dogs owner, you have the responsibility of making sure your dog is well trained and well behaved. Take into consideration his own temperament and work with him as necessary.

There are over 160 breeds of acknowledged purebred dogs that the AKC recognizes. There are the popular breeds that are well-known to nearly everyone like the Labrador Retriever or the Cocker Spaniel and there are some very little known breeds that are much more uncommon like the Borzoi or the Petit Basset Griffon Venden.
The accepted breeds are further broken down into groups, which connote a grouping that fits the distinctiveness of the breed. These groups often point out the intent of the dog and what it was bred for in the past, whether it was for hunting, herding or even just for enjoyment.
The breeds in the sporting group include pointers, retrievers, setters and spaniels. These breeds necessitate regular and revitalizing exercise. They are good at hunting and other field activities and they have many natural instincts for water and woods.
Hounds were bred for hunting in the past. They tend to have enormous resilience and an sharp sense of smell to hunt down their prey. This group would take in Beagles, Basset Hounds and Bloodhounds.
The working group of dogs was originally bred to labor at pulling sleds or performing water rescues. The Terrier Group includes dogs that were originally bred to hunt and kill vermin. Terriers tend to have very spunky and feisty personalities.
The one group that was bred generally as a pet and just for delight is the toy group. Just as their name suggests they tend to be tiny but full of life. Every group has small dogs however so a small dog is not necessarily part of the toy group. Some popular breeds from the toy group are the spunky Chihuahua and the cute and placid Cavalier King Charles spaniel. The non-sporting group is the next group and it includes such breeds as the Dalmatian and the Chow-Chow. The ever-popular Poodle is also part of the non-sporting group.
The herding group is the newest classification that just came about in 1983. These breeds were once part of the working group. These dogs were bred to herd other animals such as cattle or sheep. These include the Corgi and the Shetland Sheepdog. Each group of breeds has their own individual distinctiveness and you need to check them out to see which one appeals to you.

One of the great pleasures of owning a dog is being able to go for a walk. A dog that is well leash trained makes a walk relaxing and pleasurable but if your dog is not leash trained that same walk becomes an exercise in frustration and it can even be dangerous.
Begin training your puppy for leash training when he is very young. The younger he is the more success you will have. The first thing to do is get him used to wearing a collar. He will likely fight it at first so make sure that you make him wear it even if he starts whining. Be sure to remove the collar when you crate him though so you can avoid any mishaps.
After your puppy has grown used to the collar you can start getting him used to the leash. Attach it to the collar and just allow him to drag it around the house. Make sure that you are there to supervise him as he could cause some chaos if the leash gets tangled with anything. Pretty soon you can take the leash and practice walking around in the house with him. It may seem odd to walk your puppy around in the house but you will have success earlier if you start out in a place where he is comfortable and as far as that goes there is no place like home.
When he gets comfortable with the leash in the house you can take him out in your yard. He should still be comfortable but he will have a few more distractions. When you are walking him make sure that you discourage any bad behavior and encourage the better behaviors.
If you puppy is pulling at the leash, just stop walking. Stand still. He may still pull for awhile but if you stop every time he pulls he will soon learn not to do that. Make sure that you are speaking with him and giving him commands, this is a good time for communication.
Another technique you can use when your dog is pulling is to turn and immediately walk the other direction. He will be confused but if you do it every time he will soon learn that pulling is something that you will not put up with. Repeat these techniques until he completely stops pulling on the leash.
Sometimes your puppy will stop himself. If he stops and won't go along on the walk you can use treats as encouragement. Don't call him to you but rather drop the treat by your feet and make him come to it. It may take a few times but soon he will be walking with you instead of sitting behind.
It doesn't take very long to properly leash train a puppy and it is really nice when they walk obediently beside you with a slack leash. This is the behavior you want to reinforce so make sure that he gets ample praise and attention when he starts doing this well. Stop all bad behavior early on and you will soon be enjoying walks with your dog for a long time to come.

Children need to be potty trained and so do dogs. However, a dog's potty is the great outdoors. There are many different methods that you can use to house train a dog. The one that you use will depend on your own dog's personality and how comfortable you feel with the method as their owner.
Some people use puppy pads as a way of getting the dog to know where to go. They move the puppy pads closer and closer to the door until the dog finally figures out that they need to go to the door when it's time to use the bathroom. However, these kinds of methods don't always work for every dog.
When it comes to potty training a dog, finding just the right method is crucial. There many different online programs that owners can use to potty train their dog. Doing some research to find a method that will work is important because you wanted to be something that you will stick with until the dog is trained.
Physical punishment should never be a part of your training method as dogs do not respond well to physical punishment. It does not create a good relationship between the owner and the canine if the dog is always fearful. Also, dogs respond well to praise because they want to please their owners so it makes sense to use that kind of a method.
One of the most important parts of training a new puppy is taking them outside on a regular basis. If the dog learns that they go to the bathroom at certain times of the day, they will be much more likely to retain the information and keep that same schedule. You can also start using a word such as potty to let them know that when you say that it is time to go outside. There are so many tips and tricks on dog potty training that you can find, but the key is finding the one that you feel will work for your situation.

Most dogs just love to dig around in soft dirt. You want to have a nice yard and a nice garden and your dog comes along and ruins it all. It is a big mess that you can hardly keep up with. You want a nice yard but your dog wants to have fun digging around. What is the best way to handle this problem?
Dogs are actually diggers by nature. Some breeds are even bred to be diggers as they hunt and dig out specific prey. It may be more challenging if your dog is a natural digger but you can still contain his digging behavior with a few training methods.
It is important for your dog to engage his curiosity, learn about and explore his world. But most people want a nice yard too. You must control his digging or even halt it entirely if you want to keep your yard nice.
Dogs sometimes dig because they are bored. They crave entertainment. He may be suffering from separation anxiety because you are away. Maybe he isattempting to dig out an escape route so he can get out of the yard. He may even be digging for something as simple as controlling his own temperature. He may be too hot and trying to cool down or he may be too cold and trying to warm-up.
You can get your dog to reduce or even halt his digging patterns. First make sure that he has enough time with you and gets plenty of exercise and playtime. You can also make sure that he has toys that he enjoys. Often dogs will try to bury bones so if you give your dog bones to chew on make sure you replace them with chew toys or rawhide bones.
Clicker training often works well to stop digging. Watch and see when your dog starts to dig then click the clicker to distract him, engage him with a command that means "no digging" and give him a treat. With some persistence and consistency, clicker training can be very effective.
You can also try to stop your dog from digging by filling up his hole with undesirable items. Dogs like to dig in clean dirt so if you fill up his hole with rocks or twigs and even his own poop he won't want to dig more. You could also try to bury a balloon that will pop when he begins digging. The balloon will scare him but it won't hurt him and it will probably stop him from digging more.
You should try to designate a spot in your yard specifically for his digging. This will take the most time and patience but it may be the best solution if your dog is just a natural digger. You can reduce your dogs digging tendencies with some time and patience but be gentle because he is just being a dog.

Dogs are smart, making them easy to train. Whether training a puppy for the first time, an adult dog new to your home, or revisiting training with your resident dog, getting back to basics is the most efficient approach to assuring you have a well-adjusted, well-behaved pet.
Those of us who have learned a second language know all too well, if you don't use that second language regularly, you will eventually forget the language. Training your dog is the same as teaching him a second language. Without consistent reinforcement throughout the dog's lifetime, even the smartest of dogs will forget even the best training. When this happens, it is best to go back to the basics. Training commands are a form of communication. If your dog is forgetting to listen, go right back to ground zero. Start training as if your dog has never been trained before.
For instance, if your dog is no longer coming when you give him the command, dust off the long lead and start over. Use a 40' lead (available at your local pet or feed store). Tie knots in it at 2' and 5' before the end. Add a tied handle and you have your training lead. Begin by calling your dog: name and come. While saying the command, quickly begin by running backwards After about 5 feet, stop once the dog has caught up to you. Reward with a snack. Repeat a few times.
After about 5 or 10 minutes of training, do a bit of agility, play with your pup. It is very important to remain cheerful, and get excited when they perform the behavior correctly. The dogs forget the repetition. Many breeds get bored with repetitive activities such as ball chasing. So it is important to play a little bit, do about 10 minutes of training and play some more. Puppies especially have a low attention span and get tired after about an hour of training. Also, when training a dog to come, you should never ever ask the dog to come from a sit-stay command. This will contradict the stay command.
When teaching a dog the sit-stay command, hold a favorite treat out in your fingers and have the dog sit. Reward with a small piece of the treat. With the dog still in sit, make a stop hand signal and simultaneously say the word stay. Once the dog has performed the command correctly, take a few steps back to the dog to reward him with the treat. Never have the dog come to you to retrieve the treat once you have put him in a sit-stay. The simpler, the better; back to basics dog training will do the trick.

There have long been mixed breed dogs that contrast quite a bit in looks, size and disposition. They are often referred to as "mutts" and they tend to have strong health and they make terrific pets. You can customarily locate a wonderful mutt to adopt from the local shelter.
A mutt has an unspecified inheritance. The parents are not ordinarily purebreds and the family is basically unknown. There are no records of their genetic line and their inheritance is dubious.
On the other hand a purebred has two parents of the identical breed. Many times there are lengthy and well kept records on the topic of the ancestry of these dogs. Breeders are sensible in their breeding actions to make sure that they bring into being the strongest qualities in their dogs.
Some people may favor to have a mixed breed or a mutt for a pet as they more often than not have great health and they make great pets while others may desire to have a purebred dog. Still, there is one more option that can be considered and that is the hybrid dog or the "designer dogs".
A hybrid dog is the offspring of two purebred parents from two distinctive breeds. They are unlike a mutt because their genetic roots is known. Each of the parents of the designer puppy have a genetic line that can be traced back a few generations.
These days' hybrid dogs are becoming quite popular. They can be found in dog shows, pet stores and even the movies. The hybrids usually have the best personality of each breed and they blend the best attributes from both breeds.
These designer dogs usually have cool names that are a combination of the two breed names such as puggle, for a pug and beagle mix, poogle for a poodle and pug mix, cockapoo for a cocker poodle mix, goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle mix and the list goes on and on.
Hybrids are wonderful pets and if you are having a difficult time deciding on a breed a hybrid can get you the best of two breeds. They generally have fantastic health and they are clever and fun dogs to own.

There is nothing better than getting a new puppy. But with that comes the task of training. And when done properly you will have a well behaved dog that you can be proud of. There are many techniques of dog training and the one we will discuss first is Recall Training.
Recall means that the dog responds when called. If your pet is going to come when called you have to make sure they are paying attention. To begin with you have to make sure that the dog "checks in" with you periodically and to pay attention when you ask for it.
Reward plays a big part in this type of training, reward every time they pay attention. Every time your pet stops what it's doing and comes over to reward them with a treat.
When outside reward him when he comes up to say hello. And reward him when he responds to his name. Repeat his name several times before you feed him in his dog dish or give him a new toy to play with. If you say his name and he looks at you give him a treat. One of the hardest places to train is outside where there are a lot of distractions. When your pet is outside there are a lot of other things to be interested in other than you. For this reason, begin puppy training in the house, maybe select a room like the kitchen or the bedroom.
When you call your pet and he comes reward him. Make it enticing to come when called, have him check in with you often even if you haven't said a word. This will reinforce the habit that coming translates to mean good things will happen every time.
Make sure you choose the right treat to use for training. You could use little pieces of cheese, chunks of hot dog or sausage. You want the dog to think that you are the best choice when they have many things to choose from. That you are the better choice over everything else that is going on outside. If your pet is the type that likes to play fetch you might reward him with a game of fetch for coming when called. Know your dog and understand what is the most rewarding thing you can offer. Make the experience a positive one.
House training is another thing you want to get a handle on right away. If you allow bad habits to develop they will be very hard to break later on. Untrained dogs should never be let to roam around the house, you should employ the crate training method and contain them when you are not in control. Don't put much in the crate except for newspaper, a water bowl, a bed and a toy.
When you have established an area of your house to keep him in spend a lot of time with him there and keep all of his things in this one area. After your dog gets used to this area you can move him around to other areas. By moving his bed he will get the idea. Once your dog is trained you can let them go into other rooms but make sure you keep an eye on him.
It is always a good idea to invest in puppy training for your dog. A reputable place is not hard to find, and there is dog training Kelowna. Dog biting is probably the most serious of all dog behavioral problems. Peeing on the carpet, going on the couch or any other behavioral problem will not raise such dire results as biting, as many communities demand to put down a dog if it bites someone seriously. If your dog exhibits biting tendency then it might cost his life, which makes it vital to train your dog to not bite anyone ever.
On the other hand, biting problems are common and quite normal in case of puppies. This problem arises mostly during their teething period when they have an uncontrollable urge to chew and bite on anything and everything. Though a puppy bite might break your skin it will not pose any other serious problems. However, this is the right time and age to train your puppy not to bite ever again
You do not have to be cruel or give harsh punishments to train your puppy. They are very sensitive creatures and all you need to make them repent is a firm No! or a censorious Bad Dog, whenever they try to bite you. When your puppy bites you, pull your hand away and repeat the firm phrase again and again which will make him realize that he is hurting you.
Most often, biting problems in dogs are caused due to psychological problems. Mostly, dogs do not bite just to hurt someone. They try to bite when they want to hold on to something or they bite to warn someone of something. They also take a bit just to play. If you do not take the effort to correct the biting problem when your dog is still a puppy, then this problem might escalate to cause grave problems
But then, some dogs are naturally aggressive and bite because they are inherently temperamental. To take care of such dogs you have to send them to an obedience school.
You have to take this problem very seriously and take steps to find the best help. Getting help from professional dog trainers are probably the only option to solve this problem.
In case your neighborhood has a dog with biting problem, your defence is to keep a pepper spray handy. Do not hesitate to use the pepper spray when a dog tries to bite you. If you are squeamish about using a pepper spray, then try to make friends with that particular dog with the help of a beef jerky.

While you are going to need some stacks of newspapers to house train your puppy, other items are needed as well. Paying attention, patience, consistency and commitment are a part of it as well.
A guide for training your puppy is listed below. Remember that accidents will happen even if you have a full grown dog.
Be patient and consistent when training your puppy as this training period can last a couple of weeks or more.
Develop a routine.
As with babies, puppies learn faster with normal schedules. This helps the puppy learn that there is a time for going to the bathroom, playing and eating.
Normally, a puppy can control their bladder one hour for each month of age. If the puppy is four months old, he can hold it for about four hours. To keep accidents to a minimum, be sure to take your puppy out on regular breaks. For those who do not work from home, hiring a dog walker may be necessary.
Your puppy should be taken outside after or during playing, after he eats or drinks and as soon as he gets up. Find a spot outside that will be the designated bathroom area. Use a leash and take him to that area. Using phrases or words like go potty while he is using the bathroom will teach him that this means go to the bathroom.
Rewards are one way to teach your puppy. When he has finished using the bathroom praise him or give him a treat before he goes back into the house.
Using a regular feeding schedule will help with the bathroom schedule. Normally, puppies will eat three or four times a day. Feeding him at the same time every day will make him more consistent when potty training.
To keep your puppy from needing to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, put his dishes up about two hours before bedtime. If he does wake up in the middle of the night, stay calm, so he won't think it is time to play. Don't turn on a lot of lights or play with him. Take him outside and then go back to bed.
Supervise.
Keep an eye on your puppy when he is inside so he will not soil in the house.
When the puppy is not being trained or played with, have him on a six foot leash beside you. If he begins sniffing, barking, circling, scratching at the door or becomes restless, he may need to use the bathroom. Take him outside immediately if you notice this behavior. Use praise or treats to reward him when he is done using the bathroom.

Most every has seen excessive aggression in dogs. It can strike fear into small children and adults alike. Some breeds are more prone to aggression than others but there are usually underlying causes of excessive aggression in dogs and your training efforts will be more effective if you take these underlying reasons into consideration. A well-behaved dog that you can trust in most situations is something that most pet owners prefer.
If you dog wishes to establish his dominance he may act aggressively. Dogs are naturally pack animals and there is always a hierarchy in the pack. When you are training your dog you need to establish yourself as the alpha dog. If your dog thinks he is the leader you will constantly have difficulties. Your dog may still act aggressively towards other dogs or animals if dominance issues are the reason why he is being aggressive.
Territorial aggression is also a frequent form of aggressive behavior. Your dog will tirelessly protect the things he perceives to be "his" including you, your home and your family. This can be a good thing but it needs to be contained or it can cause problems with neighbors and visitors. A dog that is excessively aggressive because of territorial issues is difficult to own.
Sometimes a dog will be aggressive out of fear. Your dog lashes out because something has frightened him and he does not know what else to do. Something triggers it and your dog starts growling, pulls his ears back and tucks his tail between his legs. This type of aggression is often misunderstood and thought to be direct aggression but the dog is just acting out of fear rather than meanness.
Aggressive behavior can sometimes occur for no apparent reason. However this aggression is usually misdirected. Something happens that triggers anxiety within the dog but he is not able to react to the actual reason so he lashes out on something else. This may be a reason for some inexplicable dog fights between 2 or more animals. The dog is just not able to act on the real cause.
Sometimes aggression can be caused by a biological or medical reason. For example, we all understand that a mother dog may become aggressive in an attempt to protect her litter. Less understood though is that sometimes aggression can be brought on by a medical reason. That is why it is important to take your dog to the vet for a complete examination to rule out any medical issues.
Spaying your female dog and neutering your male dog will usually help calm excessive aggression. Your training efforts will also be easier and more effective. If you are not planning to breeding dogs, spaying and neutering is the responsible thing to do.
Your training efforts to curb aggression will be more efficient if you take into consideration the reasons why your dog is being aggressive. Understanding the reasons for your dog's aggressive tendencies can help you to tailor your training methods to his needs.

As any dog fan knows, dogs like to express their love. And, as any dog fan also knows, a dog's means of doing this isn't always appropriate. Some breeds keep it simple with tail wagging. Golden Retrievers, most notably, tend to go overboard and jump up on their owners and guests, among other things. Applying the correct golden retriever training can stop and prevent your dog from going this route
Don't push your Golden Retriever down or away when he/she jumps. Your pet thinks this is playing and he's keep it up. You'll find that he'll do it over and over again.
Next, raise your knee when he jumps. The dog should get back down naturally.
If this is the first occurrence, keep consistent and do it whenever the dog jumps on you until he learns.
As the dog gets down, try rewarding him with praise and an occasional treat. This helps your pet learn that not jumping up on people is a reason for a reward.
You may also try to "ignore" your Golden Retriever when he jumps. When it gets down give your pet praise. Your dog should begin to associate jumping with a lack of attention.
Move on to these techniques is the above aren't working:
If your dog isn't responding to the raised knee alone, try a gentle tap on the nose in combination with the raised knee. When used consistently this should prove effective.
When your pet doesn't jump up, you'll want to reward this behavior with praise and, every once in a while, a treat.
Some have used a squirt gun with success. A little squirt on the snout is usually enough to stop the jumping behavior, when uses consistently.
Golden Retriever training is an ongoing process, one where patience and consistency are rewarded. Any of the above techniques done once and forgotten will not be effective. Apply the training consistently for best results.

When it comes to getting and raising a puppy, there are a few crucial things you need to do so your puppy grows up to be a well-behaved dog. Too many people let their puppy get away with things because it's 'cute' when they're little. But they don't think about the fact that they're forming habits that will stay with them even as grown dogs, and when they're grown, it's not cute anymore.
First of all, you should never take a puppy away from its mother and litter mates before it is 8 weeks old. Taking the puppy before 8 weeks can lead to behavioral problems down the road, because they missed that crucial developmental period with their litter mates.
Second, begin housebreaking your puppy right away. Don't wait. Even if it's only for a few days, your puppy can develop some bad potty habits that are hard to break. Also, avoid paper training if possible. I recommend teaching them to go potty outside right from the start (if that's where they'll be going potty in the long run.)
Third, don't allow play biting. This is a very common mistake, and one that owners will regret later. You should never let your puppy bite your hands or feet, even playfully. Not even underneath a blanket or other surface. You need to always use toys when playing.
Fourth, teach your puppy right from the beginning that you are the alpha dog. Also known as the 'pack leader'. Even though dogs are domesticated, they still have natural instincts. They still expect to be part of a pack, and every pack needs a pack leader.
If you don't show them you are the pack leader from the beginning, it can cause serious problems down the road when they begin to believe 'they' are the pack leader. If you're unfamiliar with what any of this means, do an online search on the topic and read up on it. It's very important to know and practice.
Lastly (but definitely not least), your puppy needs to be gradually and carefully exposed to new, unfamiliar people, sounds, things, people, and so on. Do whatever you can to ensure these experiences are good ones. Bring along delicious treats and be prepare to give them lots of enthusiastic praise during the process.

A well trained dog is like a well-behaved child. They are wonderful! The same applies the other way round ' an untrained dog is like a disobedient child. They can cause havoc! That's why it is important for every dog owner to do some simple dog training.
Every dog can be trained, despite the fact that many believe that some dogs are beyond training. Sure, some dogs are harder to train because they may have deep-rooted bad habits, while other dogs take to training like a fish to water. In actual fact, it depends on how good the trainer is.
A dog that is trained will be happy, relaxed and secure. All dogs instinctively like to follow commands, and they will always turn to one person as their leader. This is how they behaved when they used to live and hunt in packs. One dog was always the leader, or the 'alpha'. You will need to take on this role with your dog.
The first step is to teach your new puppy or dog their name. When a dog knows his or her name, they will react each and every time you call. This will form the foundation of subsequent training.
Next it will be the 'come' command. While dangling a treat in front of the dog's nose, call out as follows: 'Snoopy, come!' Little Snoopy will quickly rush up to get his treat. Repeat the process several times, but each time move back a little further from the dog. Each time Snoopy obeys, shower him with affection and praise.
The SIT and STAY commands can be taught in the same manner. Be sure to speak in a firm manner when giving the commands. Your dog needs to learn how to differentiate the varying tones of your voice. He needs to understand when you are addressing him in a serious manner.
Don't get too carried away with treats. They are necessary tools in the early phases of training, but too many treats may cause the dog to obey your commands just because there's a treat to follow. The dog will learn that if you are obeyed, his or her reward is praise and love. Never give your dog treats outside of training sessions. This can cause confusion.
If you want to enter your dog in shows or training competitions, you should seek some professional help. Join a training clinic where you can learn all the formal requirements that go with dog shows. You can get lots of information online about this form of dog training.

Pets respond to their owners because they want love and praise. If you are interested in dog training for your beloved pet then there are a few things you should know before you get started. One of the main things to keep in mind is that you need to be consistent with your animal to get the results you want.
Rewarding a dog for good behavior is a great way to start. This can be done with praise or a special treat. You may get better results with a combination of both. Rewards let your dog know that it has done well and you are pleased with its behavior.
One common mistake is that people actually reward their pest for bad behavior. They give a treat to get their pet to stop doing something they shouldn't be doing to begin with. This confuses the dog and says that the behavior is alright even though it isn't. Scolding your pet after or during giving a treat only adds to the confusion. Don't let yourself fall into this trap.
Pets don't respond just to treats, they also get a lot from the tone of your voice. If your tone is firm then they will know you are correcting them. If you are gentle and encouraging then they will consider the behavior acceptable and know it is alright to do as you ask. How you speak can mean a lot more to a dog than what you actually say.
In the beginning praise may not be enough of an incentive to get your pet to do as you ask. They may need to actually see the treat before they will follow the command. The treats let your pet know they will be rewarded for doing as you ask. Eventually you won't need the treats and can just use the commands and words of praise.
Some actions may require more than one command. It may be easier for you and your pet to teach one command at a time. Give treats throughout for each command followed. If the command is not followed then withhold the treat. This will help to prevent confusion for more complex commands. Remember to take everything one step at a time.
You can develop a great bond with your dog. There are many books and videos available for more detailed training practices. Dog training can be a wonderful experience for you and your pet.

We've all seen excessive aggression in dogs. It can strike fear into small children and adults alike. Some breeds are more prone to aggression than others but there are usually underlying reasons for excessive aggression in dogs and your training methods will be more effective if you take these underlying causes into account. A well-behaved dog that you can trust in most circumstances is something that most pet owners prefer.
Aggressive reactions can be caused because your dog wants to establish dominance. Dogs are pack animals and there is always a leader within the pack. Your dog may want to establish himself as the alpha dog. However, you need to be the alpha dog so let your dog know that you are the leader of this pack. He may still act aggressively towards other animals or other dog's as there is a hierarchy to the pack. This may be one reason why your dog acts aggressively.
Another common type of aggression in dogs is territorial aggression. Your dog will relentlessly protect everything that he considers to be "his" including yourself, your home and your family. While this can be a good thing if you are threatened at some point, it can cause many problems in regular circumstances. It is infrequently that a family is truly threatened and if your dog's territorial aggression is out of control it can cause problems with visitors and neighbors. Excessive territorial aggression is unacceptable behavior.
Fear can cause a dog to act out aggressively. Something happens that frightens him and he does the only thing he knows how to do which is to begin growling, pull his ears back, tuck his tail between his legs and act fierce. This is just a protective mechanism that is often misunderstood as being direct aggression but the truth is that something triggered the fear, which in turn triggered the aggressive behavior.
Aggressive behavior can sometimes happen for no obvious reason. However this aggression is usually misdirected. Something happens that instigages anxiety within the dog but he is unable to react to the actual reason so he takes it out on something else. This may be a reason for some inexplicable dog fights between 2 or more animals. The dog is just not able to act on the real cause.
There may also be medical or biological issues for aggression. A mother dog will often express aggression when she is nursing her litter of puppies. This type of aggression is understandable however sometimes a medical issue could be causing excessive aggression so it is always wise to have your vet give your dog a thorough examination.
Spaying your female dog and neutering your male dog will usually help calm excessive aggression. Your training efforts will also be easier and more effective. If you are not in the business of breeding dogs, spaying and neutering is the responsible thing to do.
If you consider the reasons why your dog may be acting aggressively you can tailor your training efforts and curb the aggression. You can work with your dog's own specific needs and be more successful.

Training your dog is an important step at the start of your dogs life to ensure proper behavior, or later in life to correct bad habits. Before training starts it is best to research the dog's breed(s) to get an idea of its personality ingrained traits or any specific quarks the breed(s) may have when it comes to training.
Training your dog humanely is the key to establishing a healthy relationship with your dog. Good behaviors need to be rewarded, while bad ones should be ignored or corrected.
Strong physical reprimands and devices such as choke chains can cause much more harm than good in the long run. Repeated use of physical force can cause a dog to become extremely skittish around all people and afraid of its master. Using a stern voice, withholding a reward, and physically relocating a dog painlessly can all cause the desired training effect without physically hurting the dog.
Common commands such as sit, heel, stay, and come are generally easiest to teach through reward-based training early in life. This early learning can be important, since otherwise a dog might develop bad habits that will be significantly harder to unlearn later on. Much like their human counterparts dogs develop personalities over time that are the result of their experiences and what they are allowed to get away with. When possible, teach your dog basic commands early to avoid this sort of problem in the future.
Remember, your dog does want to please you. With a little patience and a lot of consistency, it's not that hard to teach dogs what behaviors you like and what definitely isn't allowed. Retain a position of confident leadership and you shouldn't have any problem having a happy, well-adjusted dog as a result. Maintaining cruel but humane leadership will help ensure that your dog will be able to learn from it's mistakes.

Perhaps the dog in your own life is a little disobedient, he does not pay attention to you whenever you direct him to do something. Are you searching for a way to rectify this poor behavior?
A dog training collar of some sort could be the answer to your difficulty. They come in loads of diverse types. There are martingale collars, type of choke chain design without the chain, they tighten up a bit if the dog drags too much.
There are collars that work by way of a remote command device that gives a mixture of noise and pulsation or shock correction. These more often than not have a large quantity of settings of noise and vibration so between the two you have a massive quantity of improvement options.
If your animal is horrendous to take for daily walks for the reason that he runs after cats, different dogs, individuals, cars in truth everything and anything which moves then he positively requires schooling.
Walking with a dog like that is wearing and quite honestly I do not believe the animal obtains much out of it whilst you are all the time needing to scold him.
Are you aware of your dog's breed for definite? Maybe he is purebred and in this instance there could be no uncertainty concerning it, nevertheless if he is a mix, can you identify a mix of whatever?
Are you aware that it is possible to get a DNA check done on your own animal, taking around a week to sort out, which will tell you just what breeds are in your dog.
This could be a great assistance to you to be aware of what type of schooling procedure would suit the dog best.
Perhaps you have a gun dog who you use for recovery whenever you have been shooting. This variety of dog has to be perfectly under control.
These type of combination noise and vibration dog collars are customarily totally watertight so that is fine news for dogs that require to be in water from time to time.
If your animal problem is that the dog pulls badly when walking there is an alternative innovative appearing dog training collar that I have lately seen. This comprises of a section of lead that reaches over the muzzle of the dog and joins under the chin to an additional section that adjoins the lead but at the rear the head, not the neck.
Vets, trainers and individuals like the RSPCA all believe that animals respond more rapidly to this kind of curative restraint than other types of dog education collars.
As with any merchandise there is a massive variety of these type of dog collars to select from. You only have to determine which facet of the dog's conduct you would like to alter then launch your search.

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks." A popular saying, and very true when trying to teach your dog something new. It seems to be especially true when trying to train a dog to walk on a leash.
It is far easier to train a puppy than an adult dog. Teaching your dog while they are young will help them avoid bad habits, and save you a lot of frustration in the long haul. A good way to train a puppy is to use a dog harness.
A dog harness will give you control because it is placed around your dog's torso. This will allow your puppy's entire body to learn how to walk, instead of just moving the head. A harness allows you more control because you can pull back on your dog with little fear of hurting your dog.
Dog collars, if not put on correctly, can actually do more harm than good. When you are teaching a puppy to learn to walk with a leash you may have to pull and tug on the leash to get them to pay attention. Pulling hard on an ill-fitted collar can damage your dog's throat.
That is why a harness can be so helpful. The best training technique is one that is pain free. A dog harness keeps your tugs from potentially harming your dog's throat.
Starting out slowly helps your dog learn to not pull or push against you. Once they start walking slower and at your pace, walk a little faster and see how your dog does. When they are able to walk your pace and keep slack in the leash, you have succeeded for the most part with your dog leash training.
Keep a strong grip on the leash when you are training. Start out with a short leash and slowly give them more and more of the leash as they learn to keep slack in the leash. Eventually you won't have to worry about the length of your dog leash.
Training a puppy can be hard work, but it is a lot easier than training an adult dog. If you do have a dog, not a puppy, that needs to be trained read our previous article written about training a dog not to pull against a leash. We also have tips for adult dog owners training dogs on a leash, and reasons why a training collar could be a more appropriate choice than a full body dog harness.

When you acquired your new pet dog, did you inquire about it's barking? I wouldn't assume so. You decide first by the measurements of the dog, after that by the appearance of it and does it seem to like you, nevertheless I will bet you by no means considered to ask regarding barking.
A lot can be put down to your own living situation. Do you have to go away from home to work and leave the dog by itself? That might provoke parting anxiety in your dog.
Possibly the animal is merely basically bored which could be why it woofs to receive some type of response from somebody, anyone might do.
Even when a pet dog is being scolded for barking it doesn't distinguish between different kinds of attention. He probably doesn't worry that you are scolding him at least you are at hand and you are speaking to him, that's all that is relevant.
It is not all that matters though. He needs to be taught that this is just not the way to behave. He cannot expect to simply yap and all is going to be as he wishes.
You understand how animals in general bark at anybody who comes to the house, not of the family? Your pet dog will normally woof at the mailman, but when he was small how did he start to do that? I imagine that he did it once since he didn't know who it was and subsequent to that he considered that the mail delivery man went away once more because of himself. He could have it set in his mind that he could be responsible for getting rid of strangers.
Somehow you need to get it across to him that the mail delivery man is never a danger to his family. Naturally you do not require to control his protective instincts. After all, in a quantity instances this is the reason individuals use dogs, especially if they have to leave their residence unattended all through the day.
If you owned a remote control device you have the ability to give him a slight shock whenever the mail delivery man arrived, of course you would need to be home to achieve that. If you aren't in the house you ought to have an automatic shock collar which could simply make out that he was barking and instruct him not to, regardless of why or who he was woofing at.
It is an unfortunate thing but it would appear that complaints concerning ceaseless dog barking to the police force is the second most frequent story, this is second merely to alarms going off.
If your own barking dog is described to the law incessantly then you are liable to receive quite expensive fines and this will be painful to the wallet. At the very least it can lead to awkward relationships between you and your neighbors this may be very unpleasant and entirely pointless.
You just have to get down to sorting out this yapping trouble and maybe purchasing one of the anti bark collars on the market.

Most all dogs bark sometimes. It is their chief mode of communication but when a dog barks excessively it is annoying for everyone. Some breeds bark more than others but all dogs bark at times.
There are generally a couple of reasons why a dog will bark excessively. One of the main reasons why a dog barks is because of boredom. Dogs are pack animals, they enjoy daily exercise, interacting with others and social stimulation. If they are spending most of their time being cooped up in the house or even outdoors in the same yard everyday they may need more stimulation. Try taking your dog for more walks around the block or institute some structured playtime every day. This may help to keep your dog from excessive barking if he barks out of boredom.
Dogs will bark when they are nervous or scared. Some dogs are never properly socialized and therefore the smallest thing can frighten them. While you are training your dog take him to many different places and take him around a variety of people. Reward him when he is quiet and well behaved. A food treat will do wonders to keep him contained in different places and different situations. Soon he will start associating being quiet and well behaved with the treat and this will work wonders towards his excessive barking under these conditions.
Dogs will bark to get your attention and this is one way to communicate. However, if you respond to barking every time you are just teaching your dog to bark more. Attempt to get him to communicate in different ways and reinforce that behavior with praise and treats. He can rub on your leg if he wants to go outside just as easily as he can bark at you!
Sometimes your dog will bark excessively because you have left home and you are not with him. This barking from separation anxiety is disturbing to the neighbors and others so it is wise to try to eliminate it. Start when he is a puppy and crate him when you leave so he learns to be content in his own space. Also never make a big deal out of leaving home but rather just sneak away quietly. He may never know that you are gone and if he does he will not be so loud about it.
Dogs bark to protect you and there are situations when we all would appreciate that. However, every single day when the mailman or mail person! delivers the mail is not one of those times! This is atime when socialization and training can really pay off. Go with your dog to meet the mailman, let them become acquainted and hopefully your dog will not bark at him everyday. Another way to get him to stop barking at inappropriate times is to distract him with a game or a treat. But when your dog barks to protect you remember that there may come a situation when you will appreciate that so limit your training to people you know.
You can train your dog not to bark excessively. A dog trainer can offer you some tips but usually more socialization and more playtimes do wonders to stop excessive barking. Your dog is barking for a reason though, so it is wise to figure out the reason why and adjust your training to that.
Dogs who only bark at appropriate times are much less annoying than dogs that bark excessively. Start training your dog away from excessive barking while he is still a pup and when he is all grown up you will know when he barks that there is a good reason.

Normally, cats are content as well as proud to be the favorite pet in the family and will purr and play with their owners. They are generally the best behaved of all pets, surpassing even dogs as far as favorite pets go. The fact of the matter is that cats have their own special personalities that endear them to their owners including being very good at taking care of themselves. If only there were no cat behavior problems to contend with, cat owners could not have asked for more from any pet.
Impulsive and Strong
Cats are known to be strong as well as excitable and if they are not properly cared for it could cause them to develop cat behavior problems and that may make them turn into wild creatures rather than are the docile pets you wanted. In fact, every cat lover is aware of this and they also know that cats possess certain instincts that affect their behavior. Thus, as a cat owner you need to learn about cat behavior problems and know how to handle your cats so that they do not scratch or bite you - even accidentally.
Most of the behavioral problems of cats are acts resulting from their natural behavior. For example a kitten shows natural aggression by biting, clawing and wrestling while playing which is an important preparation for hunting and killing for their sustenance.
A cat brought up at home does not have the need for hunting food and hence this behavior becomes a valid reason for treating it a possible behavior problem. Therefore in order to avoid such behaviors cats even when they are at a very young age must be trained to retract their claws and not get into scratching even while they are playing. Cats should be trained from a very young age and with just a little bit of perseverance one can get their cat to overcome its instinct for attacking and killing.
The benefits of catnip playthings and the use of fake mice are plenty. Do take your cat for some kind of exercise as this occupies its mind and the aggression of the killer instinct in them can be reduced and gradually it can pass away. Much depends on the distraction that helps the cat to overcome their aggression and help to make them docile.
When it comes to spraying, a most disgusting cat behavior problem, you need to control this behavior through use of sprays and through proper behavior training as well as through neutering your cat.
In some cases, cat behavior problems can indicate a health issue and so it is a good idea to take them to the vet in order to get the trouble treated at an early stage. It only needs understanding that cats are naturally descended from predatory animals.
The most common behavioral problems of a cat is because of their survival and hunting instincts which can be conquered with some determination and effort and as a result you would be to spend some good time with your cat without having to fear about its errant behaviors.

If you haven't brought your new puppy home yet, then be sure to start housetraining them from the very first day you bring them home. A common mistake that's made with housebreaking is not starting immediately and not being consistent. It's too easy to be wrapped up in their adorable little faces and ignore their training those first few days. It is important to start them off with good habits though.
Several potty training techniques are available to you, but they're not all effective. For example, one method that is taught is paper training. With paper training, your dog learns to go potty on newspapers or puppy papers you keep inside your home. Once they've learned to use the papers, you then teach them to go potty outside. It works better to skip right to having them do their business outside from the very beginning.
One other method is crate training. Crate training is very popular and very effective. Basically you get a crate from the pet store that is about the size of your dog's bed. Dogs will typically not go potty in this area when they are in it because it is such a small space, they would be forced to lay on it or very close to it.
You put your puppy in the crate anytime you cannot be supervising them to make sure they don't go potty inside. This could be when you leave the house, when you're cooking, when you're working, etc. This teaches your puppy that when they need to go potty, they are able to hold it. They don't have to immediately relieve themselves.
It's important to get the right size of crate. If it's too large, they may potty in it because of the extra space. If it's too small, they will not be able to lay down and it will be very uncomfortable for them. They need to be able to lay down comfortably.
Here's an excellent tip that you'll really like. You can teach your puppy a 'potty word'. No, I'm not talking about profanity! A 'potty word' is a word/phrase you tell them when you want them to do their business quickly, instead of just goofing off in the yard. It doesn't matter what your phrase is, it can be anything. I'd suggest using a word that's exclusive to that though, not something you may say on a regular basis. Make sure you use this phrase consistently every single time.
When your puppy is outside going potty, you will say the 'potty word', then praise them and give them a treat. This will teach your pup to go potty when you take them outside for that purpose.
Be sure that if you take them outside to play games or go for a walk, you don't say this potty word. It needs to be something exclusive to them going to the bathroom, not a commonly used phrase you may accidentally say at some other time. Over time, you will be able to tell your dog the phrase and they will do their business immediately and rush back to you for their treat, rather than leisurely strolling around in the yard while you sit around and wait for them to potty.

Choosing a Corgi puppy is hard to do, as they make loyal and caring companions. Whether you choose a Cardigan or a Pembroke Corgi, remember these tips. Corgi puppies are a good companion for a child. Their guarding and herding instincts help to keep the child safe, and their kind, gentle disposition makes them a great best friend.
Researching a good, responsible breeder is the first thing you should do. Make sure to visit the kennel you plan on purchasing your Corgi puppy from to insure it is clean. Play with the puppies for a while and see if they are well socialized and well taken care of. The adult dogs should also have a good temperament, and are a great gauge as to what the puppies will turn out like. Ask the breeder any questions you have, if it is a good breeder he should be able to answer your questions, and offer a guarantee on the puppies.
You should look for a healthy looking puppy (no runny eyes/runny nose, clean ears and skin, etc.) that is active, and likes people. Although the corgi is happy to lie by the fire, or hang out by your feet as you read a book, it is an active breed and enjoys playing ball ,Frisbee, and tug-o-war, sometimes to the point of exhaustion.
One of the most readily available reasons to take care and research the breeder you buy from is disease. Corgis are known for hip dysplasia and other joint problems. It is vet recommended to have your Corgi x rayed to check for these problems. Hip dysplasia is not the only problem to be on the lookout for, progressive retinal atrophy, spinal disc problems, autoimmune diseases, and cataracts can crop up. Always have your Corgi checked by a vet on a regular basis to get on top of these problems as the come up, if they do.
A Corgis weight can be a problem. If you are not careful they can put on weight very fast. They love food and if they do overeat the risk of joint problems increases. Make sure to feed a balanced diet at routine times.
