You probably just came to terms with the fact that you could buy your dog its own bed. After possibly months or even years of sleeping beside you or on the floor, your dog will finally get its own bed. This means that if your dog is on the large side, it can have its own bed and not just a rug in your living room or a dog house outside your home. Here is an in-depth look at large dog beds:

Why should you go for large dog beds?

If you have a big dog, you need a large bed. You need something that will envelop your pet in warmth during the time it is recharging its energy. Most big dogs are bought not just as companions but also as guard dogs. You can make your dog more efficient if it is well-rested. So, you have to buy it a nice, large bed.

Deciding to go large

Well, if you have a Great Dane, a German Shepherd and the like, you have no choice. You have to buy something that will fit a dog like them.

What are the first things to consider?

When about to buy a bed for your large dog, you have a few things to consider. The first consideration is whether or not you can afford a bed for your pet. If things were fine without the bed and you are struggling financially, it is better not to buy one. If you can afford it, however, go for high-quality large dog beds that will last longer. Another consideration is your dog's actual size. Measure your dog if you cannot bring it along during the day of the purchase.

Types of large dog beds

The type of bed you go for will depend on your dog's size and your preferences. You may want an oblong bed over a donut-shaped one. You may want to go for something that could fit seamlessly into your living room, such as a couch-like dog bed that could pass as additional home accessories.

Design considerations

There are actually designer large dog beds. If you want something posh, then you go for such a bed. Generally though, it is more practical to go for less expensive beds that somehow complement the room they are going to be placed in.

Setting up the large bed

A more important consideration is the size of the bed compared to the room it is going to be placed in. Make sure that you have a space especially intended for your dog. The large bed may take a lot of space. Measure the spot properly even if that spot is a dog house's floor. In that case, the bed must cover all the floor space of the dog house.

Large beds for dogs are absolutely necessary to keep your big dog comfortable and well-rested. Even if it is living in a dog house outside your home, it is recommended that you give it a dog bed fit for its size.

Dog harnesses are used to secure a dog in a similar fashion that a dog collar would. They are a simple, but effective, tool to use with dogs. Collars are meant to be used around the neck, but a harness goes underneath your dog's chest for even distribution.

Dog harnesses are good for dogs that are hyper-active and tend to choke themselves when on a collar. Choking can lead to serious problems, such as gagging, vomiting, damaging their neck, and breathing problems. Switching to a harness will eliminate the choking problem because the harness isn't around their neck but their torso.

Dogs can sometimes get free of collars that aren't tight enough. Dogs cannot, however, slip out of a harness easily. Since a harness is placed around your dogs chest it is very difficult for even smaller dogs to wiggle out of.

Harnesses can be used in more than one way. They are helpful for walking, but also for other functions such as dog sledding. A harness allows the dog to run and pull the sled at the same time, all with out any discomfort.

Harnesses allows you to support your dog while they are walking, standing, climbing stairs, etc. A dog harness can be used to help your dog recover from an injury. Some dog harnesses will let you to lift up your dog's front and the back at the same time to help pets that are handicapped.

Dog harnesses can be used similarly to collars still. For example you can still connect a lead to the back of the harness when you leave them out in the yard. Your dog can still be secured to the lead, and he will be able to move around the yard freely.

Harnesses work well when traveling with your dog. Harnesses can be used as a dog seat belt. Adjustable nylon harnesses can attach to seat belt clips to keep your dog secure during your drives.

There are many options to choose from when deciding on a dog harness. They come in many different sizes, styles, and types. With so many options there is a good chance you will be able to find a harness that works for your dog.

Teaching a puppy will assist them in averting bad habits. A good way to train a puppy is to use a dog harness. Jim Witt is and an accomplished designerof heavy duty dog harnesses and suggestsvisiting Country Brook Design.

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks." A popular saying, and very true when trying to teach your dog something new. It seems to be especially true when trying to train a dog to walk on a leash.

It is far easier to train a puppy than an adult dog. Teaching your dog while they are young will help them avoid bad habits, and save you a lot of frustration in the long haul. A good way to train a puppy is to use a dog harness.

A dog harness will give you control because it is placed around your dog's torso. This will allow your puppy's entire body to learn how to walk, instead of just moving the head. A harness allows you more control because you can pull back on your dog with little fear of hurting your dog.

Dog collars, if not put on correctly, can actually do more harm than good. When you are teaching a puppy to learn to walk with a leash you may have to pull and tug on the leash to get them to pay attention. Pulling hard on an ill-fitted collar can damage your dog's throat.

That is why a harness can be so helpful. The best training technique is one that is pain free. A dog harness keeps your tugs from potentially harming your dog's throat.

Starting out slowly helps your dog learn to not pull or push against you. Once they start walking slower and at your pace, walk a little faster and see how your dog does. When they are able to walk your pace and keep slack in the leash, you have succeeded for the most part with your dog leash training.

Keep a strong grip on the leash when you are training. Start out with a short leash and slowly give them more and more of the leash as they learn to keep slack in the leash. Eventually you won't have to worry about the length of your dog leash.

Training a puppy can be hard work, but it is a lot easier than training an adult dog. If you do have a dog, not a puppy, that needs to be trained read our previous article written about training a dog not to pull against a leash. We also have tips for adult dog owners training dogs on a leash, and reasons why a training collar could be a more appropriate choice than a full body dog harness.

As a dog owner you may be wondering whether the dog collar or dog harness is best. There always seems to be a question of which tool is best for walking, training, etc. They both have benefits, but which one is the superior of the two?

There are several factors when deciding which of these is better. A dog harness and collar can be used in similar ways to compare the two. However, they are also very different so the best of the two really depends on the goal you are trying to achieve.

Dog collars are best to hang identification tags. They also are the best for teaching your dog commands. They are very helpful for training.

For teaching dogs to walk on a leash without pulling on it, harnesses can be the best choice. Dogs are often fitted with a choke collar by owners, and it is used incorrectly. Choke collars can cause a lot of damage to your dog's throat, so if you choose to use a dog collar with training be sure to use a sturdy nylon collar that is fitted to the right size of your dog.

You have little to worry with them pulling on a leash with a harness, however. Harnesses allow the pull to be spread evenly across their chest, so you don't have to worry about damaging your dog's neck on accident. You can find no-pull harnesses made specifically for training dogs to walk on a leash.

Some dog harnesses can be difficult to get your dog in to. Dog collars are easier to put on. If you are turned off by all the straps and clips of a dog harness, invest in a step-in dog harness so all your dog simply has to do is step in to it and you are ready to go.

Dog harnesses can also double as a seat belt for your dog. If you travel a lot, a dog harness can prevent your dog from moving around your car or jumping out the car. Your dog harness can be connected to your car's seat belt to keep them safe and secure.

Both dog collars and dog harnesses can irritate your dog if he has sensitive skin. It is important to find a soft dog harness or collar. Also be sure that you fit them with the right size collar so they fit correctly.

There seems to be some argument about which works best for training your dog. Is a dog harness or a dog collar better? Which dog training and walking tool works best? Jim Witt is an specialist in dog collars and suggests browsing to Country Brook Design for a broad assortment of Dog Collars and Harnesses.

It's a trend that's been developing for some time, which is memory foam beds as the best dog beds for pets who have arthritis or creaky joints, or who are just getting older and less limber. You've heard of memory foam beds for humans, in which polyurethane cells in the mattresses mold themselves to the sleeper's body and return to their original shape when the person gets up. These beds provide support like no other mattress, so they've been recommended for humans with spine or joint problems. There's no reason why dog bed furniture of memory foam can't do the same for pets.

The best dog beds for joint problems like this should provide a cushion that reduces pressure, to relieve the pain of the joints themselves and the accompanying muscles. Memory foam gives that sort of support. This is especially good for larger dogs, because many are prone to hip dysplasia, a degenerative joint disease where hip joints don't always fit properly and the muscles near the rump are weak. Large dog beds made of memory foam can relieve aggravation of the affected limbs when the dog lies down, or ease sore muscles on dogs that have worked hard during the day.

Some people provide heated dog beds for their companions with joint problems, but it's possible that memory foam beds do just as well as those. One advantage of memory foam is its breath-ability. This means that it retains heat in wintertime, but is cooler in the summer when overheating might otherwise be a problem. The extra winter warmth of memory foam beds is what may make them the beds for arthritic animals, because not only would they retain the dog's body heat when it's needed, but they'd also provide protection against floor temperatures that might get a bit too cool at night.

Keep in mind that even if these small memory foam mattresses are the best dog beds when it comes to support and comfort, you'd still have to guard against an over enthusiastic chewer. You'd need a sturdy cover to put over the mattress to keep the dog from chewing on the polyurethane. But memory foam can help provide excellent orthopedic dog beds for older dogs or those with arthritis or other joint problems. It might be worth going that extra mile if it can help your dog sleep more comfortably.

Dog Grooming if you are a responsible dog owner, then you need to pay satisfactory attention to grooming your dog. Right dog grooming guarantees that your dog looks his best and feels good too. While dog grooming embodies a hill of things, there are certain essentials of dog grooming. Let us have a look at a number of them.

The most vital aspect of grooming your dog is correctly brushing its hair. Just like you may have lots of problems if you don't brush your hair for long, the dog will also have similar problems. With regular brushing, the hair of your dog remain well sorted and untangled and look fresh and tidy.

While hair brushing is essential, you need not brush your dog's hair daily. The frequency of brushing that your dog needs will depend on the length of the coat. Dogs with longer hair require more frequent brushing as compared to dogs with shorter hair.

Bathing is another required of dog grooming. You cannot expect your dog to be clean and well groomed if you are not giving him a correct bath. Bathing not just helps remove all the dirt from your dog's coat but also removes any bacteria that may be sticking to your dog's coat. It is these bacteria that finally cause various skin infections in your pet.

You do not have to clean your dog on a day-to-day basis. In most cases, bathing them once a month suffices adequately. if your dog has dirtied himself, he should be given a bath at the earliest. There are certain things to take into account while showering your dog though . One such consideration is the water temperature. The water should be of moderate temperature and neither to hot nor cold. Also, make sure that the hair shampoos you use on your pet are of top spec.

Nail clipping is another significant facet of the dog grooming regime. Dogs with long nails are not just a menace to passers by, they may become indisposed due to a few unwelcome things which are stuck in their paws. Nail clipping eliminates the likelihood of any such problem.

Now, about nail clipping you need to realize a critical thing. There is a possibility that your dog might not 'agree' to the exercise. If you have trained it about clipping part since it was just a puppy, the picture might be favorable. Grown up dogs are a different story. Best path is to give some sedatives to dog before you go about clipping its nails.

So , whether you are more worried about the way your dog looks or feels- grooming can contribute considerably to the overall health and well being of your dog. Simply follow these essentials and your dog will both look and feel good.

If you have pet dogs, you want to look after them at both the physical levels. Caring for your pet dogs physically will also make you feel emotionally attached to them. Physical care for your pets includes frequent exercise and feeding, grooming, and correct veterinary support when the requirement arises. Among these activities, grooming has a special significance and here are some points on the facets of grooming.

Grooming your pet dogs primarily involves bathing and brushing. The frequency of these activities would be usually decided based upon the breed of your pet dogs. If you have a dog like Chihuahua with short hair, you wouldn't need to brush it more than twice a week to get rid of loose hair.

In comparison to this, pet dogs with longer hair will need daily brushing or their coat will get matted. While you are grooming your pet dogs, you should also inspect the skin of your dogs for any other is-sues, particularly their scalp. Obviously that if you find something astray, you should take the dog to a vet. It is extremely important that you find and treat symptoms as early as possible.

It is important to understand how to sweep the dog. Always use the brush in the direction in which the coat of the dog is growing. Use grooming combs that matches with the sort of coat your dog has. There are specially designed combs. If you find tangles in the hair, work gently from the fringe of the tangle to untie. The skin around the tummy of your dog is a senitive area, so while you groom this part make sure that you do it carefully and carefully.

Give your dog a bath regulaurly though how often relies on the type of the dog. There are special dog shampoos which can be had simply from a pet supplies store. Bath your dog with such a shampoo in lukewarm water. Remember, you have to bath your dog only after brushing. After drying, take your dog for a little walk.

It is vital to clip the nails of your pet dogs.Long nails may result in foot problems. One thing to remember is that it's best to clip the nails of a pet dog when it is young because clipping the nails of a grown up dog can be difficult as it can react.

Regular grooming is a must in case you would like your pooch's coat to be all healthy and shiny. Groom your dog so that he not just looks good but feels good as well.

Training is a necessary side of keeping and raising a dog. However, some folks resist their dogs' training whether in the shape of formal obedience classes or at home coaching because they consider it to be a member of the family. Although this may be a popular sentiment, you must realize that you are not doing your dog any favor by withholding it from training.

Contrary to popular belief, coaching your dog will not transform into him into a robotically obedient pet following your commands mindlessly. It'll also not change him into a trifling showpiece that spends his time doing tricks in front of visitors to the house. Dog training can however ; strengthen the dogs' relationship with you while ensuring he gets as much joy out of life as he gives to you.

Irrespective of the size and breed of your dog, he needs training for sure. Without reference to the purpose for which you own a dog, you want to impart him suitable training. It's vital for your dog to know how he is supposed to behave in different eventualities.Coaching helps your dog adapt to different environments and adjust to people comfortably.

Having a dog who is well trained could mean more relaxation and happiness for you. A trained dog will not create any kind of bother. He will not tar down the furniture or eat away your shoes. A trained dog will not jump at your guests and make them nervous. Instead, it will alert you about someone's arrival and behave obediently. A dog who is trained will give you all the rationalizations to be happy instead of disturbing you constantly.

Another benefit of coaching your dog is that coaching can reserve it from several potential perils. You can't recall an untrained dog correctly, if it rambles away somewhere. It might come across any sort of danger while rambling, which might cause it major wounds or even death. On the other hand, if you correctly train your dog you need not worry about it getting lost. Moreover, you can easily protect and control your trained dog in high-pressure situations.

coaching can improve the quality of life of your dog to a great extent. Training teaches your dog how to behave in human company and the make the companionship enjoyable. Sine you and the dog enjoy one another's company, the entire experience becomes enjoyable rather than being a bother. Since your dog behaves as per your wishes, he adds to his own contentment too.

Even with time and money considerations, training a dog to be a good dog citizen always pays off in the long run. What's more, it also helps your pet live his/her life more totally as an active player in your life as well as the surroundings.

there's no denial of the fact that home made food is the best form of food. The same goes for your dog too. The market has diversity of commercial dog foods that you can give to your dog. such foods are often found to be less on the nutrition value. Therefore they are not able to give the required nutrition to your dog. For this reason it is advisable your dog. For Because of that you want to give your dog only home made food. Let's have a look at some of the important things that you need to appreciate about preparing handcrafted food for your dog.

The firstly thing is to keep an eye for the nourishment cost of the food. It is critical that you give your dog only a well balanced diet. The food cooked at home should be such that it is loaded in essential nutrients in satisfactory quantities. Therefore the home made food given to your dog must have proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, minerals and substantial percentage of fat too. This can be made possible if you feed your dog with a varied range of food items in his daily meal pattern.

Though human beings can ingest almost every edible thing, this does not hold true for dogs. There are certain food items that should never be fed to dogs. Some such food items include onion, garlic, grapes, raisins, bread and the like. Thus, you should try to avoid these foods completely when cooking for your dog.

Another thing that you must completely stay away from when cooking for your pooch is salt. Avoid salts at all costs if you do not want you need to shed all his hair. To make when cooking for the absences of salt, you can include different kind of ingredients to give a distinct flavor to the food. For instance, you can include crispy vegetables like bell peppers along with the sweet ones such as carrot so that your dog enjoys the different flavors.

On one hand there are particular food items that are a complete no-no for your dog. On the other hand there are certain food items that are mandatory for your dog. Amongst a spread of obligatory food items for you dog ; eggs are the most important. They are preferable over meat due to their acceptable fat content. Also eggs are a wonderful source of proteins. Your pooche's daily meal is incomplete without a good quantity of vegetables in it. Vegatables are a natural source of the critical nutrients and hence help to contribute to the overall health of your pet.

Home made food is not confined to its ingredients to give beneficial results. It also depends on the way the dog food is cooked at home. Decide solely for healthy cooking systems. This means that over cooked food or fried food is a humorless no-no. Boiling and baking are healthy cooking ways that you can select. Such ways comes in handy if you want to restrict the calories intake of your dog. Similarly such healthy ways of cooking help keep the taste and flavor of food too.

Cooking for your dog keeps it healthy, the best choice for your love and above all it strengthens your love for your pet.

Using your voice to persuade your dog to learn something new is a great dog training aid. Use your dog's name before you state any command, and use a persuasive tone of voice. What is a persuasive tone? It's best to use a low, but pleasant, firm tone when dog training.

Speak to your dog all the time while you're engaged in dog training. Training your dog to retrieve may take some time, and dog training aids can come in useful for this purpose. A very light dumbbell is a good dog training aid to use when training your dog to retrieve. Again, use your voice to effect - immediately your dog takes the dumbbell, praise him repeatedly in a happy voice, and also pet him.

Always keep a happy tone with your dog when training. Becoming angry will never assist in your training efforts. It will only serve to confuse your dog and make him anxious.

Always remember that your dog is trying to please you. This is the case even when he is not following your commands. Your dog may not understand what you want of him. He is not being deliberately disobedient.

Once your dog understands what it is you're attempting to train him to do, he will be more than happy to repeat the action - probably over and over again. One thing you can be almost certain of is that you will get bored before your dog does!

For example, if your dog does not understand what you want him to do with the dumbbell that you have selected as your dog training aid, try gently placing the dumbbell in your dog's mouth and holding his jaws closed around it. Be careful not to graze your dog's teeth on the dumbbell.

Dog training times are a wonderful opportunity for you to spend one on one time with your dog. Dogs love this. They love training with you, but you will need to be patient at times. Your dog will not always understand what you want him to do, but as soon as he does, he will be happy to comply.

Once your dog has become used to taking the dumbbell from your hand, he will probably want to perform this "trick" over and over, because he knows he is pleasing you.

Once your dog understands the taking of the dumbbell, you need to extend the reach of the item. Place the dumbbell on the ground in front of your dog and ask him to "Retrieve" or "Fetch". Then start moving the dumbell further and further away from him. Your dog will soon get the idea.

What are the more important features of dog training? Find out what they are, and discover how dog training aids can assist when training your dog to retrieve, to fetch, and much more.

Many would say that finding the right GPS dog tracking collar to help you find your pet dog should he stray away from your home is going to be a real challenge. The simple truth is that no two dog owners are going to have the same needs and so no one particular GPS pet tracking system will fit the bill for every dog owner. However, with some tips and advice it is possible to zero in on the best option.

However, there are only a few different kinds of GPS pet tracking systems available on the market today, though it is hoped that with new advancements in modern technology that this problem too will be rectified in the foreseeable future and dog owners will then have many more options to choose from.

The options open to dog owners in regard to buying a GPS pet tracking device may be limited but that is not to say that whatever is available is not very useful. In fact, some of the options available are very smart and power saving which means that you at least will not need to worry too much about high operating expenses.

Ideally, such a device must be waterproof and in fact it should be handle more than just mildly wet conditions. Hunting dogs are going to put the device to severe tests and will in fact test the device's resilience to the maximum. So, it pays to use the most robust and durable device.

A third important consideration is understanding the location of the antenna. This is especially important because a GPS pet tracking collar can have issues with its signals; more so when the antenna is located in the chest region of the dog. Ideally, the antenna must be located at a higher level because only then will it be able to send stronger signals. So, review various options before making your final decision.

The base station doubles up as a battery charger and when it receives information that the batteries in the GPS pet tracking device have started to run low will immediately turn off all components barring the antenna in order to conserve power.

The bottom line with using GPS dog tracking collars is that they provide you with peace of mind and will help ensure that you don't waste time fretting about what is going to happen to your pet should he wander out of his home. These devices also come with a wealth of features that in turn will minimize your and your dog's world to a more manageable size.

The better GPS pet tracking systems are now even able to provide round-the-clock customer support that in turn will ensure that your chances of finding your lost pet will increase dramatically.

A dog is a man's best friend and he does (unquestioningly) brings much joy to every home; spending some money on buying a GPS dog tracking collar is but a small price to pay for all the love and company a dog provides.

Stop before you put a Micro Chip in your pet! Learn why a Dog GPS Tracking is much better than a microchip. To learn more visit http://www.lovemypetsgps.com

If you are in the process of getting a dog, thinking of having a dog or if you already have a dog, one important thing to ask yourself is - what does my dog need? Although it may seem like a very easy question, you'll soon come to terms with the fact that your dog needs a lot of things.

The best thing to do when it comes to this is to make a list of things that your dog needs. We are not talking about an imaginary list that you just have in your hand. You have to actually get a pen and paper and write these things down so you won't forget, but also so you can figure out what items or accessories to prioritize.

You will also have to choose the right kind of bedding for him. He would require his own bed and that will be his safe zone in the house. You should get a bed that is soft and easy to clean and the length of the bed will depend on the breed and size of your dog.

It is also important to consider your dog's exercise and daily activities on your list by adding doggie toys and a leash to the items that you already have listed down.

It is also important to consider your dog's exercise and daily activities on your list by adding doggie toys and a leash to the items that you already have listed down. When thinking of a leash, make sure that it fits your dog properly so it does not strangle him, but allows you to control him while you are taking a walk or a jog. As for doggie toys, make sure that it matches the mood and personality of your dog.

Is your dog an active dog or a sedentary dog? There are many options available for both and they need to be considered before you opt to purchase one toy over the other. Every dog has a strength and weakness, just like their human counter-parts :-)

Although that is perfectly fine, you have to make sure that you are not simply splurging by impulse and that the items you are buying fits your dog's needs.

A canine collar can be constructed of plastic, leather or a cloth and is to be put around a dog's neck to keep the pup from running away. A dog collar is used by many for a number of unique uses. Some owners use a dog collar to tie up the dog and take him/her on a stroll; individuals love canines and so they want to keep them from running. It can be devastating to deal with the death of a pet for this reason.

Owners who have bigger dogs (Great Danes, Bulldogs, or German shepherds, for instance) would want to get a leather collar because leather is can withstand a lot of abuse. Furthermore, many prefer the appearance of leather over other materials. As long as the canine does not tug the chain, which is bound to the collar, the leather collar should not break. Also people who have smaller dogs like a Pomeranian would be better off with a cloth or nylon-webbed canine collar. These are usually cheaper and available in smaller sizes for smaller breed pups such as the Pomeranian. Because most small canines do not have enough strength to rip through a collar, for smaller dogs, these nylon or cloth collars are one of the better choices. These collars come in different colors, designs, and sizes. Not only are there a myriad of colors but also available are florescent collars that shine in pitch black so that the individual can see his/her canine without fail.

Collars are not limited to specific styles and sizes unique to certain breeds; they are also constructed to take on other reasons. Some collars include studs or other decorations that can add a sparkly look; especially if the canine is a female. These studs, however, are not just for decoration purposes. Studs are sometimes used to provide safety for the canine in case another dog tries to bite the dog that has the studded collar on.

Beside the colors and decorations, dog collars can also come with pest killing agents on them. Typically, these medicated collars are dunked in a solution that causes fleas to die. Additionally, medicated collars are used to help a dog's suffering from several dermal conditions. The medication that are distributed through the color is in low doses and hangs on for a few months.

Canine collars may be used for educational purposes. These collars are normally used exclusively for coaching and removed when not in training. These collars should always be worn lose; there have been mortal cases due to an over-tightened collar circling the dog's neck. It is essential that this collar be used specifically for training, and for no other reason. If you have questions about how to utilize the collar, you should get advice from a dog trainer online or at a specialized training program.

Dog collars are one of the most important parts of dog ownership. Not only is it a good idea for your dog to be on a leash, it is also not dangerous for others. Often, collars are manufactured to attach a tag on the dog that has on it their owner's home location and phone number if the dog gets lost. This very feature has made it possible for many pups to be placed back with their owners after getting disoriented.

A canine collar can be constructed of plastic, leather or a cloth and must be placed circumnavigating a dog's neck to stop the canine from escaping. A dog collar is widely used for a variety of unique uses. Some people use a dog collar to tie up the dog and take him/her on a stroll; people love pups and so they wish to keep them from running. It can be overwhelming to have your companion pass for this reason.

Owners who have bigger dogs (Great Danes, Bulldogs, or German shepherds, for instance) would benefit from a leather collar due to the fact that leather is very strong. In addition, many prefer the aesthetics of leather when put beside other materials. As long as the canine does not yank the chain, which is bound to the collar, the leather collar should not get torn. On the other hand individuals who love smaller pups like a Pomeranian would be better off with a cloth or nylon-webbed dog collar. These are usually cheaper and available in smaller sizes for smaller breed dogs such as the Pomeranian. Because many small dogs don't have the power to rip through a collar, for little dogs, these nylon or cloth collars are one of the better choices. These collars come in a myriad of colors, designs, and sizes. Not only are there a myriad of colors but also available are florescent collars that are visible in poorly lit areas so that the individual can see his/her dog no matter what.

Collars are not just available in unique styles and sizes made to fit certain breeds; they are also comprised to help with other purposes. a couple of collars include studs or other decorations that can give a shiny hue; especially if the pup is a female. These studs, however, have a use other than aesthetics. Studs are sometimes used to protect the dog in case another canine tries to bite the pup that wears the decorated collar.

On top of colors and decorations, canine collars can also come with pest killing agents on them. Typically, these medicated collars are dunked in a solution that puts fleas in their place. As well, medicated collars are used to ease a dog's ache from affected areas of skin. The medication that are given out through the color is in low doses and lasts for one or two months.

Pup collars may be used for training purposes. These collars are normally used specifically for education and removed during other activities. These collars should never be to choke the animal; there have been deaths due to an over-tightened collar around the dog's neck. It is important that this collar be used specifically for training, and for no other reason. If you feel confused about how to utilize the collar, you should consult a dog trainer on the web or at a specialized training grounds.

Pup collars play a vital role in dog ownership. Not only is it a good idea for your dog to be on a leash, it is also a good idea for friends. Frequently, collars are manufactured to support a tag on the pup that includes their owner's place of residence and phone number in the event the dog gets disoriented. This very feature has made it possible for many canines to be found and returned home with their owners after getting disoriented.

Often, collars are made to attach a tag on the pup that displays their owner's home location and phone number if the dog gets lost. This very benefit has given the ability for many pups to be reunited with their owners after being lost.

Many times, writing one article will trigger the beginning of another. That is exactly what happened with the most recent article about Martingale collars and half check collars. The article discussed the debate over the various types of choke collars. It mentioned the proper fit and position of these types of collars but did not address it. Indeed, this is a crucial aspect of using a Martingale or Half Check collar.

In summary, Half check collars and Martingale collars are variations of choke collars that are considered to be more humane that the chain choke collar. These two types of collars were originally designed for sight hounds, such as Greyhounds, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Bolzoi, Saluki, etc., which are breeds that have necks larger than their heads, but prevents any dog from backing out of a regular collar.

Half check collars, or half choke collars, are typically manufactured of leather or nylon webbing and chain, while Martingale collars are made entirely of nylon webbing. Both collars have a dual-loop design which functions by tightening around the dogs neck when it is attempting to remove its head from the collar, yet it will loosen when the struggling dog stops fighting. The distinctive, restricted closing of the half check collar and the Martingale collar averts it from becoming too snug. Nonetheless, proper fit and positioning is crucial when using these types of collars.

Martingale collars are generally made up entirely of nylon webbing with two loops. A smaller control loop contains a 'D' shaped ring for connecting a dog leash. A larger loop allows the collar to tighten or loosen to fit the dog's neck. Buckles are frequently added so the collar can be snapped around the dog's neck with ease.

Fit and positioning of the Martingale collar is as follows, place it over the dog's neck and position the collar up in back of the dog's ears. While holding this position, make the appropriate adjustments. When tension is applied to the dee ring, the smaller control loop should close. The two pieces of hardware attached to the control loop should not touch. If they do make contact, adjust the collar so that it contracts to a minimum of 2 inches.

The Half Check Collar is comparable to the Martingale except part of this collar is made with chain. Similar to the Martingale, it has two loops which work the same way. The control loop on this type of collar is made of chain. The dee ring is attached to this circle of chain and is used as the attaching point for the leash. The chain is connected to the webbing or leather part of the collar with metal rings

The half check collar is placed in the same location as with the Martingale collar. If the dog tugs or attempts to slide the collar over its head, the chain tightens the webbing around the dog's neck. The chain itself never comes in contact with the dog. The unique chain tightening noise also acts as a training tool as the dog pulls against the collar.

When trying out both of these collars, it becomes apparent how equivalent these two collars really are. Fundamentally, these collars act the same way. More importantly, these two collars are more gentle to your dog while tethered to a leash.

The owner of the dog ought to be educated about the types of collars available and how to use them properly as to not inflict harm to the dog. Jim Witt recommends visiting Country Brook Design to view the wide assortment of custom made Martingale Collars that are available in many sizes and colors.

Enjoying the outdoor sun is a natural activity with beautiful summer. Many of us love the water just like some dogs love the water. Even dog breed that don't normally enjoy getting wet will enjoy a swim if they are encouraged or don't want to miss the fun!

There are canines that enjoy swimming with people, retrieving toys or simply just running around in the water. Certain dog breeds have been bred to be around water. Some of these breeds are: Labrador Retrievers, Newfoundland, Golden Retrievers, Irish Water Spaniels, Portuguese Water Dogs, and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Some Poodles and Spaniel breeds also enjoy the water. Don't rule out many mixed breeds that are always ready to dive in!

Dogs need exercise daily. Exercise will not only improve their health, but make them calmer when indoors. Taking your dog along on your day at the beach can provide hours of fun for you and your dog.

Float toys can also bring hours of exercise and pleasure to your dog. Many floating dog toys have ropes attached for handles that make it easy to launch into the water.

Drowning can be a side effect of dog swimming when they are exhausted. Therefore, pet life preservers are available at many pet stores and come in a range of sizes and styles. This will help dog owners enjoy their day at the beach, knowing their dog will not drown

If you don't want to travel outside of your own backyard, your dog can take a dip in your pool. This is really a personal preference since some pool filters can't handle dog hair. Even if your dog doesn't shed, pool owners have differing opinions about pets in the pool. Sometimes dogs can rip the liner or damage the pool equipment.

A simple solution is to purchase a separate pool made specifically for dogs. A durable dog pool is transportable, easy to fill and empty and made of tough PVC for long lasting use. These pools are ideal for a quick dip in the pool in the backyard, deck or patio. These types of pools fold down completely making it easy to take on a summer vacations and easy to store during the winter.

The Dog Days of Summer are here. Give your dog cooling relief from the heat. Have a wonderful summer and share your love of the water with your pet.

A topic which will always start a debate among dog owners is the use of choke collars. The opinions on blogs and forums are wide and varied about the benefits and disadvantages of the use of choke collars. Many pet owners and trainers are proponents of choke collars for training and control. Then there are the owners and trainers who think these collars are instruments of abuse. Information about the different types of choke collars is essential for the pet owner to make an informed decision.

A choke collar is manufactured out of chain and can also be referred to as slip collar. This particular version of dog collar is classically constructed of chain, cord, webbing or cloth. Despite the word 'choke' in the title, a chain choke collar was by no means intended to choke a dog - it was original constructed to squeeze the brachial nerve, similar to bumping the funny bone. This style of collar ought to be used for training applications only and ought to fit accurately around the dog's neck, to avoid harming the dog's throat.

Dogs should never be left unattended using this kind of collar because it can get tangled on various objects and strangle a dog by mistake. Literature recommends that a choke chain or slip collar only be used for training or when walking your dog with a leash. Never use a coke collar for puppies under the age of six months. Additionally, if your dog is frequently pulling against the chain collar, then an alternative kind of choke collars should be utilized.

Half check collars and Martingale collars are variations of choke collars that are considered by many dog owners to be more humane that the chain choke collar. These two types of collars were originally designed for sight hounds, such as Greyhounds, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Bolzoi, Saluki, etc., which are breeds that have necks larger than their heads. Half check and Martingale collars have since become popular with many breeders because it prevents any dog from backing out of a regular collar.

Half check collars, also called half choke collars, are made of leather or nylon webbing and chain. Martingale collars are made totally of nylon webbing. Both of these specialty collars have a two-loop design that works by tightening on the dogs neck when it is trying to remove its head from the collar, but will loosen again when the dog stops struggling against it. The unique, limited closure of the half check collar and the Martingale collar prevents it from becoming too tight.

These specialty collars are also good for controlling dogs when on a leash. Some dogs, even when properly trained, can be a problem when on a leash and these collars are a tool to keep the dog and its owner safe. Choke collars are especially useful with extra large and giant breeds of dogs which can easily pull an owner off their feet.

One particular strength the Martingale collar has as opposed to half check collars is that it is tangle resistant to the dog's hair because of the fact that they are made of webbing rather than chain. Most individuals who are in favor of these types of collars underscore the fact that fit and locations of these collars are of extreme importance when making sure they do not inflict harm to your dog. Guidelines on appropriate fit and location are easy to find at any pet supply store, browsing on the web or from a local trainer.

Although the debate may continue among dog owners over whether or not to use a choke collar, there is an abundance of information available for one to make their own well-informed conclusion. In the end, it is a choice that will have to be made by the individual dog owner for the benefit and protection of their own dogs.

Dogs are one of the most loyal pets to have. Aside from the joy that they bring to your house, some of them are also very protective to their owners. There's definitely no doubt that they are the best bestfriends to have.

While having a pet or a dog in particular, brings so much joy to the family, there are some things that should always be kept in mind in taking care of them.

The dog's breed. If you are not yet decided on which type of dog to own, then his breed is one thing that can help you make better decisions. Be sure that you can handle taking care of that dog; say a Labrador versus a Chihuahua? Which of the two do you prefer more? Do you think you can handle taking care of big dogs or the little ones?

Proper grooming. Just like us, our dogs need proper maintenance as well. Aside from cleaning his poop, you must also know when and how to bathe him, trim his nails, clean his ears, etc. This is one way to keep your dogs healthy too.

Health care. Unlike people who can talk, dogs on the other hand, do the barking. More often than not we barely misunderstood what our dogs are trying to tell us, so better check on them regularly. You may observe him to be uneasy or is always running around and barking the whole day; or maybe a bit sleepy most of the time- which is unusual to him. Who knows he may be suffering from joint and muscle pains, indigestion, or other illnesses? Be sure to take a visit on his vet and have him checked up.

Keep your house clean. Since your dog's dander, as well as his waste can be found everywhere, cleaning your house every once in a while is suggested. Aside from your dog's health and hygiene, of course, your family's health is essential too, so this is one way to keep your home allergy-free.

Play with your pet once in a while. A bonding moment between you and your pet is very important, since this builds the relationship together. Plus there are studies that dog owners tend to live longer compared to others having no pets at home. The jury may still be out to show concrete evidences to that; but one possible factor is that dogs make us happier, and brings more joy to our lives.

Having a dog can bring us both joy and disaster, but the latter can be definitely avoided when you know by heart how to take care of your dog the right way.

May you already be a dog owner for years or is still new to it, knowing how to take care of them the right way is very much important, since like us humans, they can feel too, they can understand us, so we should care and love them, just as much as they do.
