One of the toughest things for a dog owner to deal with is having a dog that is aggressive. Not only is it extremely difficult to deal with an aggressive dog but it can be risky as well.

Before you do anything else you should find out what exactly pushes your dogs buttons that makes him act aggressive.

Do they exhibit dog aggression towards other dogs?

If that is the case with your dog one thing you can do to get rid of some of his dog on dog aggression is to make sure you grab your dogs attention when you are approaching another dog.

If you have done any dog training with your dog then you might be familiarized with the simple command of watch me. This is a great command and what is does is when you tell your dog to "watch me" they need to look you directly in the eye.

If you can get your dogs attention on you then you have a good chance that they will not get aggressive towards the other dog.

You also want to make sure your dog cannot make direct eye contact with the other dog. When dogs make eye contact with each other they are challenging each other to prove who the leader is. This can be a major cause of aggression if both dogs think they are king of the hill.

Another way your dog might be aggressive is with his food. Some dogs will get aggressive when they are eating and get very territorial. If you dog is aggressive when he is eating then you need to make sure children are not around him anytime he has food or a bone.

One thing you can do is make sure your dog does not get to eat his meal until everyone else in the family has eaten and finished their meal. This will let the dog know that he is the low man on the totem pole which is very important when trying to curb dog aggression.

If your dog is exhibiting signs of aggressiveness, for example food aggression in dogs or dog aggression towards other dogs then it is time to do something about it. SafeDogObedienceAdvice.com is a free resource for training your dog.

Many pet owners had this frequently seen problem for years together ; fighting the aggression in dogs and keeping it under control. If you understand the concept as to what causes dogs to be aggressive and how to manipulate it, then the possibilities of not being a victim of dog aggression is high. It is astounding that dog bites cost the healthcare industry $30 million annually.

First, you must understand the causes of aggression in dogs. Not all dogs are born aggressive, they usually become like that thanks to the conditions around them. When a puppy is of a particularly young age, like say between one to 14 weeks, they need to socialise thoroughly and taken care of by members of the family.

Aggression in dogs usually starts from a young age due to unacceptable care. If the puppies aren't socialized with humans from a young age, they are going to grow up shy around other people and will be alarmed of them. This is perhaps the beginning of aggression in dogs. If left unbridled, it may be a difficulty later on. There are also factors that cause aggression in dogs. This could be hormonal or genetic background. The most typical breeds like Doberman and rotty are consider having the most aggression in dogs. These breeds are of a protective nature which explains the high aggression in dogs that belong to these breeds.

Hormonal imbalances are due to inbreeding by some scrupulous dog breeders. They do not take excellent care of the dogs and in an effort to make a fast buck, resort to inbreeding. In addition to causing high levels of aggression in dogs, this is also unhealthy and can have serious physical effects on the dog as well .

The environment the dog is being raised in also is a significant contributor to aggression in dogs. If the dog is being punished pointlessly, or being showered attention for no reason, or is the topic of teasing by passersby and children, then these are all in charge of higher degrees of aggression in dogs.

Similarly, aggression may also be classified into different types based primarily on the dog's demeanor. The defensive aggression in dogs is when the dog is terribly frightened of the person or animal and attacks in retaliation. This is one of the most common forms of aggression.

The territorial aggression is the form of aggression where people or animals outside the known circle approach the dog's area and make it feel threatened. On the other hand, pain induced aggression, as the name implies, is when the dog is attacking something that causes it discomfort like other animals or people. There is a probability that a mix of aggression in dogs can exist and thus, it is safe to chop down the causes before jumping the wagon.

Sadly, a big number of pet owners mistake aggression in dogs to be an unexplained behaviour change. They fail to realize what caused the dog to behave the manner it probably did and hastily send it away to animal shelters. If you take the time and understand, then it is possible that there are a few things your beloved pet may be trying to say.
