Fear of Death – A Major Stress

Are you afraid of death and dying? Are you so afraid of death that you are afraid to live? Because we are anxious about the “Unknown,” we fear death and dying even though we all must face this ultimate transition as a resolution to our lives. Death has also become the “enemy” of our youth oriented society. Aging is not accepted or tolerated by our media and by the high technology that drives our world. (But that is a topic for another article.)

Many people fear doing new or unfamiliar things because they fear, at a deeper level, the ultimate anxiety that failure to do something new “successfully” will bring on death. Strange to think or feel this way, but look around and you will see a world filled with people who are “Stuck” in their lives because they fear attempting some new direction or activity. Have you ever heard the statement, “It is not worth doing unless you can do it well?” How can you do it well unless you try something and fail, maybe many times, until you can begin to figure it out and then master it. Very few of us ever learned to ride a bicycle or to swim without making mistakes that lead to success. But people fear new relationships or career paths or travel or searching their deepest thoughts because they fear the unknown. It may be easier to take the path most travelled but it removes adventure and learning through making mistakes from our lives. The safe path is not always the “right” path. We paint ourselves into corners by fearing the alternatives.

So this dilemma leads us to an important lesson in life. How can we choose to live fully without exploring the experience of death and dying? How can we be familiar and release our fear of dying, without really dying? A question for the ages… No easy answer here, but consider doing some research. I read the book “Life After Life” by Moody and Ken Ring’s research in his books “Life at Death” and “Heading Toward Omega” where these authors explored the death and dying experience by interview survivors of a near-death experience. The accounts by these survivors were profound. By reading this research, I began to release the fears of uncertainty regarding the experience of the dying process. It may not be so scary! In fact, many people who were resuscitated, and brought back to life, claimed a feeling of disappointment when they had to return to their bodies and had to continue living. They felt that death embraced them in a sense of “unconditional love and acceptance” that they did not know in their lives. These survivors consistently repeated that this experience had “Changed their lives” by removing the fear of dying. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross was another scientist who sat with many people who were facing the ultimate transition. She wrote about having a different attitude toward death in many of her books including, “On Death and Dying.”

We must all face the experience of dying, when “our time comes.” Why not know something about this transition? Why fear the unknown and have this fear get in the way of living? I am not sure that our religions have good answers for us because often there are political or financial factors that play into the answers that our religions provide for us, but these may be a place to begin our quests. For me, many important experiences, and perhaps some answers, came from the practice of mediation and also, the group processes of sharing information with other seekers on the path.

Good luck in your search. Please take good care of yourself. Find your passion and do not fear get in the way of pursuing it.

The Mystery Of Death

Sample Paper

Words 1,430

To me death is like living, everyone has to experience it and go through the process. As any other normal human being I am as fearful of death as the next person, but what really is scary is what will happen to me after I am dead, for example I would not be happy if my body is used as a display, I think dying should be approached as a reality and children should be allowed to experience it from near or far, as it will help them better dealing with it, and will create less of a confusion.

In this age of fast paced development, death is as evident as it was centuries ago, and I agree with Kubbler-Ross that the emotional needs of the dying person or a sick person go into the background, although medical help is necessary and saving a persons life important, but this has made death less human and more lonely. Moreover the peace and quite, and the company of loved ones that a dying person may need is denied because society has started pushing dying people away, the emotional coping techniques have changed, as people like to be removed from such activities, and feel uncomfortable with it which was not the case in the past.

Grices perspective is almost similar, in his view death and human body has lost its sanctity and respect, with new development. As long as people are viewing an object from the safety of their homes, on a PC or on a television, death does not bother them, as they are unaffected by it, this callousness has become a part of our culture which has was absent in the past, but has become strongly entrenched in the society very rapidly.

Thus overall what has happened or happening is that death is the same and so are the emotions attached with it, however, the way people deal with death has changed drastically and these views are becoming more inhuman and mechanical as well as selfish.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

The term sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) refers to the sudden death of a baby who is less than 1 year old.  Authorities always conduct a formal investigation when a child dies, including a complete autopsy and medical records review.  This helps rule out other possible factors, such as abuse, accidents, or undiagnosed health issues.  Once completed, if the investigation concludes that the death is unexplained, authorities list SIDS as the cause.

Is My Baby at Risk?

SIDS is the leading cause of death for babies between the ages of one month to one year, but the majority of deaths from SIDS occur in infants between the ages of 2 to 4 months of age.  SIDS occurs across all socio-economic lines and in all races, although some races and ethnicities seem more prone to it.  Also known as crib death, the exact cause of SIDS continues to elude researchers.  Researchers and pediatricians believe that a deadly combination of several risk factors cause certain at-risk babies to die in this manner.  Some of the characteristics of at-risk infants include:

Male and African American or Native American
Mother used recreational drugs, smoked, or consumed alcohol during pregnancy
Premature birth
Low birth weight
Exposure to tobacco smoke after birth
Lack of adequate prenatal care
Mother under 20 years old
Excessive warm clothing or bedding
Sleeping on the stomach
Keep all well baby visits with your pediatric doctor

Always put your baby to sleep on his back or side and never on his stomach – not even for a short nap.  If your baby turns over to his stomach, gently move him to his back or side.  Use firm bedding on a mattress especially made for his crib.  Never place baby on a sheepskin, pillow, or comforter for sleep.  Keep pillows, bumpers, quilts, and plush toys, and all other bedding well away from baby’s face.  Keep the ambient temperature at a level that is comfortable for you and dress baby in light clothing.  Discuss these prevention techniques with your baby’s pediatric physician. He should have information about SIDS prevention for you to take home with you.

Skip the New Year’s Party

A 2010 study, conducted by David P. Phillips of the University of California, concluded that New Year’s Day brings with it a 33 percent spike in SIDS deaths.  The study, published in the academic journal Addiction, found a correlation between this spike in SIDS cases and heavy drinking the night before.  Phillips points out that just as overindulging in alcohol impairs people’s ability to perform tasks like driving, it also impairs their ability to properly care for and monitor the well being of their infants.  This does not suggest that you should not plan an evening out on the town for the New Year celebration or that you should not indulge in any alcoholic beverages.  Make proper care arrangements for your baby with a grandparent, trusted caregiver, or other family member before the night out.  This will ensure you can have a good time, free of worries about baby’s needs when you arrive home.

Final Considerations

While the thought of SIDS seems terrifying to new parents, don’t let fears and worries about it rob you of the joy of parenting.  Follow the guidelines given to you at the pediatric clinic and make certain all caregivers know to follow them as well.  Enjoy your baby as he grows; the time passes all too quickly.

Wrongful Death FAQ’s

What is a wrongful death? Well many deaths can be included under this label. If you have a family member who died at a workplace, this can surely be included in a wrongful death case. Another common thing is that maybe something malfunctioned, and was the direct cause of someone related to you passing away. Many common cases also include a specific product that was deemed safe but ended up causing the death of a loved one. In order to file a wrongful death case, you must have a certain relationship with the person in question. The first to file should be a spouse. If there isn’t a spouse, then a child can legally file the claim. If no children are available to file, a mother or father of the deceased can file a claim.

On top of making a wrongful death claim, and receiving compensation in behalf of the deceased, family members can also sue for pain and suffering. Having a family member pass away is a very hard time, but it makes it even worst if the family member that passed away could have avoided this all together. Outside of family members rightfully suing for pain and suffering, the benefits you will be seeking in the deceased behalf range from burial costs, to future and expected wages that could have been had, to the loss of care that person was providing to a love one such as a child.

So if the person wrongfully died, but was not employed, could you still seek benefits and compensation with a monetary value? Well, a short answer is yes, you can. Many people have families but do not work because they choose to watch the kids, or take care of the home. This type compensation can be equated in court to a monetary value.

The entire nature of a wrongful death case is very complicated. The immediate thing you should do if you feel like you have a case is contact a professional and trusted attorney. The attorney will know what steps to take to move your case forward, and can give you insight to all of your questions. Most wrongful death cases never reach trial, and are settled outside of court, so this can mean that you will not have to wait years and years for your compensation, but either way, you should not waste any time and contact an attorney who specializes in wrongful death cases.

The Death of Ezines?

Isn’t it ironic how many internet marketing gurus will go into great detail to describe to all of us that ezines are dead or ineffective? While at the same time … you have to sign up to their follow up list in order to get their detailed reports and updates.

What is the point of that?

Well … I don’t about you, but I find it very intriguing. The fact is, that auto-responders are an incredibly effective way to stay in repeat contact with readers and viewers who are interested in a very specific topic. The topic can be anything … from cooking to white-water rafting, from bizarre to traditional, from expensive to free. And, in fact, the more focused on YOUR niche topic your ezine list is … the better your results will be from your list of readers.

But you simply can’t buy into the theories and reports that ezines are useless, that they don’t bring results anymore, or even that they are dead.

That is simply not true! Here’s a few things auto-responder courses can STILL do for you:

* Follow up emails are an amazing way to build trust with your readers.
* They allow you to promote your niche, and your expertise.
* An ezine allows you to contact viewers over and over again, giving you a foot in the door when they decide to buy a product based on your topic.
* It gives you low-cost, 24 hour product sales promoters.
* They give you exponential return on your business investment.
* eCourses help you build your business brand and platform.

Given all of those factors, ezines are one of the most advantageous business tools you can use for your internet business. You need to start the process of developing one now, and slowly (or quickly) grow it into the money making tool it can be for you.

The Death of a Relationship

Elizabeth Kübler-Ross introduced us to the five stages of grief back in the late 1960’s. These five stages are, of course, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. They were first applied to the terminally ill and then spread to other losses. I myself first became aware of the five stages after the sudden deaths of a couple of family members, when I found myself attending regularly scheduled sessions with a grief counselor.

Right now I’d like to apply the stages not to the loss of anyone’s life, rather the loss of a part of my life. The recent loss of a relationship, one that to the outsiders who may have observed me and my significant other may have seemed odd. And yes, what he and I had together was somewhat unconventional, and like any other couple we had our ups and downs. We had our share of stupid arguments over pointless things, like whether or not a song we had listened to had been used in a Guitar Hero game. But it worked very well for us and it was surely one of the best relationships I have ever had the pleasure of being in.

So when this relationship came to an abrupt end one summer evening, I was naturally devastated. He told me he wanted to go back to being just friends, and I suddenly found myself grieving the loss of the deeper connection that we had been sharing. And as I had in my past experiences with grief, I jumped straight to depression.

Kübler-Ross herself stated that the five stages of grief don’t necessarily come in a particular order; it varies for each individual. Some people may not even go through all the stages. I myself don’t recall ever having experienced the denial stage.

What I had already learned from my time in grief counseling is that the amount of time it takes to go through all the stages also varies from person to person. In this particular situation, I only spent a week on the depression stage, curled up on my bathroom floor, crying into mass amounts of generic toilet paper bought in bulk.

It became apparent I had rapidly made the transition from depression to anger when I began stashing apples in my school bag and throwing them at my new ex-lover. It was only added misfortune that I had sloppy aim and instead of hitting my intended target, I wound up pelting one of the campus security vehicles that was parked behind him.

By this point it was pretty obvious to myself and others that it would be in the best interest of myself, my former companion, and not to mention, innocent Dodge Durangos, that I get away for a few days. Now I’m hiding out in an air conditioned house listening to the love-stinks, you’re-better-off-without-him play list still saved to the computer from my last break-up, with a safe 130 miles between me and my ex and any fruit that may be used as missiles. Here, I am slowly working my way through the bargaining stage, where I am declaring to my higher power that I would never visit another social networking site again if only things could be the way they were in the spring. And eventually, in my own time, I’ll fully accept that our romance has flat-lined, I will call the time of death, turn off the monitor, and move on.

Death of Stephen J Gould

With sadness I must report the recent death of Dr. Stephen Jay Gould, 61, Harvard professor and prolific author. Dr. Gould was a down to earth, affable man who wrote many books on the subject of evolution.

He attempted to bring evolution to the masses in simplistic terms. His work is reminiscent of that of Thomas Huxley (1825-1895). Huxley was called Darwin’s bulldog for his aggressive spreading of the Darwinian faith.

Why would a creationist as myself mourn the death of a man like Dr. Gould? I guess I regard death as a tragedy for any person and especially for a person who most likely did not know God. I prefer not to speculate as to where the soul of Dr. Gould presently resides.

Dr. Gould was a smiley faced writer who undermined the faith of millions. I don’t know if he ever repented and turned to Christ to receive forgiveness of his sins.

The Bible says “‘As I live!’ declares the Lord God, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways!…'” (Ezekiel 33:11 NAS).

Dr. Gould popularized a variation of evolution called “punctuated equilibrium.” Punctuated equilibrium is the idea that evolution was not a gradual change in animals (as Darwin postulated) but that evolution proceeded in periods of radical change in animals followed by periods of stability.

Gould’s theory was actually an attempt to refurbish UCal Berkeley professor Richard Goldschmidt’s 1940’s era “Hopeful Monster” theory. To illustrate the hopeful monster theory consider the hypothetical example of a lizard that lays an egg and out hatches a bird.

In other words a lizard changes into a bird in one generation. But what will the bird mate with to produce offspring? There are no other birds on earth at the time that supposedly happened!

The science of genetics was not kind to either Goldschmidt’s or Dr. Gould’s theories. A radical change in an animal would require changes in tens of thousands of chemical base pairs in the DNA.

Geneticists tell us that even one base pair out of place can be fatal. The probability that a radical advantageous change in DNA could take place randomly in one big step is so absurdly remote as to be incalculable.

The hopeful monster theory did rely on mega doses of hope. It is hopeful indeed to expect a random radical change in DNA to be nonfatal. How much more hopeful to believe that such a change could be advantageous!

Also remember the fact that genetic mutations virtually never add genetic information to the design of all life forms but simply scrambles preexisting genetic information in the gene pool. Hopeful monster and punctuated equilibrium crumble under scientific scrutiny.

Dr. Gould himself even ridiculed his own theory in addition to his ridicule of traditional Darwinism. He originally formulated his theory because he saw the lack of transitional forms in the fossil record.

Here is a quote from Dr. Gould: “The extreme rarity of transitional forms in the fossil record persists as the trade secret of paleontology. The evolutionary trees that adorn our textbooks have data only at the tips and nodes of their branches; the rest is inference, however reasonable, not the evidence of the fossils.” from “Evolution’s Erratic Pace”, Natural History, vol. 86 (May 1977), p. 14.

Gould and his colleague Niles Eldridge shook up the Darwinian establishment for decades by relentlessly pointing out the lack of transitional forms. The lack of transitional fossils (the missing links are still missing!) effectively disproves Darwinian gradualism.

Punctuated Equilibrium and Darwinian gradualism are both unsubstantiated hypotheses. Evolution is collapsing on all fronts and science is the wrecking ball! Evolution is in danger of extinction and I will not mourn its passing.
