<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/5-considerations-for-selecting-girl-cat-names/"></g:plusone>

Don't take the responsibility of naming your female cat lightly! Cats have ears and brains, therefore if you give your cat a stupid name, she will be incorporating this name into her identity for the rest of her life. What's more, you don't want your cat to be teased by other cats, so giving her a noble and girly name is definitely the way to go. Don't have a joke at your cat's expense when it comes to naming her!

Tip 1 - Take a long term view. As is the case when naming a baby human, you need to consider the longevity of the name you give to your kitten. Granted, parents are becoming increasingly flippant with this long-term outlook naming their human children "Talitha" and "Lucifer" and the like, thinking it's funny or a salute to some sub-culture, but when it comes to cats the matter is much more serious. Cats are infinitely more social than humans, wandering around all night and meowing all the time, so think about how important their names must be to them!

Tip 2 - Don't be ironic with colors. If your cat is black, it deserves a black name. If your cat is white, it deserves a white sounding name (I don't mean black and white in the sense of African versus Caucasian - I am speaking strictly about the colors here of course). Don't be led into the dark side way of thinking where you name your ginger cat "Greenie" or your black cat "Milk". It isn't funny and it doesn't help your cat's self esteem at all, trust me on that.

Tip 3 - History matters. All too often people give a kitten a name that turns out to be rooted in more ways than one. The Latin and other ancient language roots of cat names are fundamental to a cat's development (they are, after all, at least as old as the Sphynx which is based on a cat, as you know). If you give your cat a name like "Phalluseus", your cat will instantly know what the Latin root is on about and you do not want to be around when she finds out.

Tip 4 - Be creative. In particular, I'm referring to all those people who name their cat "cat" and their dogs "dog". There have been numerous surveys all around the world that show year after year the most popular name for cats is "cat", and to my way of thinking this is completely unacceptable. If you can't be bothered creating an appropriate name that reflects something of the cat beyond its genus, you don't deserve to be a cat owner. Give your cat the compliment of caring about her by actually putting effort into her naming!

Tip 5 - Test the names out first! A little market research never hurt anyone, except the guy who invested his life savings in a business before doing the research of course. And so it is with naming your cat. The best part about tip 5 is that if you suggest the name "cat" for your cat to your friends and family members, the puerile idea will be stamped out before it has the chance to make it to your cat's cerebrum (yes, cat's have cerebra - trust me). As an added bonus, your friends may even come up with other ideas for you!

In conclusion, these tips can save your cat's life through preventing a cat eating disorder due to a terrible name and on the flipside can give you and your cat a great relationship simply by virtue of a well thought out and beautiful name.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/understanding-kittens/"></g:plusone>

The biggest thing you will observe about kitten behavior is that almost every single thing they do is ridiculously adorable. But when they are kittens, they are also learning a lot and ultimately shaping their future personality.

Starting Life

Just as with babies, a lot develops in your kitten's first few months.

Birth to 2 Weeks - Eyes begin to open and they get familiar with sounds around them. Competing for rank and territory has already started.

2 - 8 Weeks - They can see well enough to recognize their mother at three weeks and their sense of smell has developed. They are walking (even if it is clumsy) and their teeth come in by week four. Then, a week later, they start pouncing and learning to avoid obstacles. By the eighth week, kittens know how to groom themselves and socially interact. They have also developed motor skills and sleeping patterns.

Two to Three Months - This is their most active play period. They learn to ambush, lick, hug, toss, paw, hold, chase and leap during this period.

Three to Six Months - During these months, they see and use dominance or submissive behaviors either within their litter or in their household with their humans and other pets.

Socializing

If a kitten is abandoned or taken away from its litter mates too early, it will miss out on valuable socialization. They may either be more timid or withdrawn as a result, or they can be completely opposite and end up being quite aggressive towards both people and other pets.

Usually around seven weeks of age, kittens are weaned. However, some do suckle longer than this if they are looking for comfort when their mother starts leaving them for extended periods of time. Kittens that have been weaned too soon or orphaned will often suckle on pillows, blankets, your arm or anything else, long after they are adults.

If they aren't provided enough socialization time with their mother and litter mates, they may have a hard time reading signals. They don't know where the line is drawn between mouthing and biting, or they may become too rough when wrestling.

Skills not acquired before the kitten is eight weeks old may never be learned. It is also interesting to note that kittens held by people daily for 15 to 40 minutes before they are 7 weeks old will generally develop larger brains.

Putting Up With Bad Behavior

Keep in mind that if you get a kitten, there is some behavior you need to be prepared to deal with that you may not find all that cute.

Scratching - Your kitten scratches to condition his nails, release energy and mark his territory. You can redirect him to a scratching post in order to prevent damage to your furniture or rugs.

Urinating Outside the Litter Box - If this happens, be sure to clean the spot with a quality urine removal product so the smell doesn't linger. This should keep them from returning to that spot to urinate again.

Rough Play - This is generally only a concern if kittens have been weaned too soon. They will chase you, pretend to bite (or bite for real!) or chew on your arm or feet.

Jumping - If you don't want your kitten on your counter or table, stop this at an early age. An easy trick is to take pieces of gift tape and create bubbles with them and stick them along the edges of the counter. The gift tape isn't strong enough to even pull their hair if it does stick but it annoys them enough to not continue to try.

You may notice changes in behavior like licking dirt, dry nursing, wool sucking and fur pulling. Usually the reasons behind these actions are that they could be bored, lonely, anxious, stressed, scared, hungry or unhappy with changes in schedule or environment. This is typically a passing phase, but if you are concerned, check with your vet to make sure there are no mental or physical health issues present.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/is-catgenie-the-best-alternative-to-a-litter-box/"></g:plusone>

Many cat owners are discovering that there are ways to own cats without putting up with litter boxes, and CatGenie is one popular alternative. CatGenie customers like the fact that this product is really a toilet for cats rather than a litter box, and there's no litter to throw out. Anyone considering CatGenie should read this review to learn more about the product, what it does and some complaints people have about it.

Some cat lovers have two or more cats in their home and may be wondering if CatGenie can accommodate all of them. The consensus seems to be that the unit works easily for one or two cats, and a maximum of three, as long as they get along well enough to share it. So CatGenie is not the ideal solution for homes that have lots of cats. You'd be changing the cartridges all the time, and the cats might be fighting over who gets to use it. If you have up to two cats who are up to 20 pounds each, CatGenie will work fine.

The Cat Genie is simple to maintain since most of the work is already done for you. The granules are cleaned automatically, so you don't have to clean the unit the way you do a litter box. Wiping down the outside of the unit once in a while will help keep it looking clean. Over time you may need to use the maintenance cartridge to remove any particles or grime build up that can happen. In addition you will also need to clean the water sensor once in a while too but that too is easy to do. Compared with alternatives the CatGenie is easy to maintain and keep clean for years to come.

Well, there is more to come with our discussion of CatGenie, so we hope you are finding it to be useful. We encourage you to seriously look at the backdrop of your own life and how what you are reading about will help. That is really in your best interest only because you know your situation better than anybody else. If you get too bogged down with the minute details, you can easily get lost in the haze. While you may be challenged trying to achieve that, it is all right as long as you learn more and increase your knowledge. So just find what ever spare time you have, and be sure you pay attention to the most important issues. If you can only be very sure about the particulars and details of both your case and what we have to offer, then that will put you in a solid position.

When you get a CatGenie, you do have to consider, not only the initial cost, but the maintenance costs over time. Despite its many unpleasant aspects, cat litter requires no water or power to run. Both water and electricity use will go up when you install CatGenie. Another regular expense are the filters, which will have to replaced about every other month with a single cat, more often with additional cats. So while there are many good points to CatGenie, there are also expenses, and you have to decide if it's a good trade off.

In conclusion, the CatGenie can be seen as the alternative to traditional litter boxes. The relief will be instant as you replace your unsightly litter box with the CatGenie system. With the high cost of initial purchase and setup you might wonder if it's right for you but once you're reaping the benefits you'll be happy you invested in the CatGenie. The cat genie offers unparalleled benefits even with the high cost of initial purchase so you must decide.

There will be unique issues when researching any subject and that is no less true with Catgenie. Nothing so out of the ordinary with that scenario; I guess it is just the nature of information on the net. However, with any type of challenge, bear in mind that you may need to slow the pace of things. Detailed descriptions with examples are available when you visit Catgenie.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/how-to-feed-your-kittens/"></g:plusone>

Diet plays a very important role in your kitten's health and development. Kittens naturally need to be fed with proper and well-balanced meals to fuel their growth. Keep in mind that a well-balanced diet is more than just emptying a can of cat food into their bowls. A nutritious cat meal will require your attention and your time in preparation.

During the first few weeks of birth, kittens depend solely on their mother's milk for nutrition. Cat owners may only start feeding their felines with kitten food when they are four to eight weeks old to complement the milk. However, if kitten food is not immediately available, you can choose to temporarily feed them with adult cat food softened with water. At eight months, your kitten's stomach should be able to handle eating purely kitten food alone.

When buying kittens from a breeder, make sure to ask about the brand of kitten food they use for feeding. A kitten's digestive system may still be very sensitive and different kitten chow brands may contain varying ingredients and formulations. If you plan to switch brands, do this very gradually to avoid indigestion. Buy one or two cans of your old kitten food and mix them with the new brand at gradually decreasing amounts.

From eight weeks to six months, your kittens will be growing at an incredibly fast rate and will require large amounts of food to fuel the growth. Your kitten's digestive system is still very small so they may need to eat several times in a day. Four small meals a day should be sufficient enough to supply them with all their needed nutrients. Remember to give them unlimited access to clean drinking water as well.

Growth usually slows down when your cats reach six months of age. During this time, they'll become less active as well. At six months, you can now safely cut back your usual meal frequency to 2-3 times a day. Do not start feeding them with adult cat food just yet. Although growth will significantly slow down, your kittens are still not completely ready for adult food formulation.

The best time to start feeding your cats with adult cat food is when they reach a year old. This time, feeding them will become less of a hassle. Cats at this age are now able to feed themselves without your constant attention. You can simply fill their bowls with cat food and they should be good to go. Canned cat food is a very popular choice among pet owners but dry foods may be used in combination with this as well.

One potentially dangerous behaviour that you should always watch out for is overeating. Although most felines eat only when they are hungry, the constant and unregulated presence of food may slowly give rise to this unhealthy habit. If your cat is starting to become overweight, limit their meals to two times a day.

Also be very meticulous about the brand of kitten or cat food that you use. Choose brands that are nutritionally complete and well-balanced. Do your research before selecting a brand or better yet, ask advice from your local vet.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/everyone-can-enjoy-a-feline-companion-thanks-to-hypoallergenic-cat-breeds/"></g:plusone>

People live longer, healthier and happier lives when they have an animal companion. And yet, many people feel that they cannot have a feline companion in their life because they are allergic to cats. The good news is that there are a number of hypoallergenic cat breeds that make it possible for everyone to enjoy the warm, purring affection that a cat can offer.

How Cats Cause Allergic Reactions

Cats lick their coats when they clean themselves and that saliva becomes airborne after it dries. There is an allergen called Fed d1 in the saliva that causes an allergic reaction. This allergen travels to the warm, moist environment in a person's eyes, nose, throat and sinuses causing sneezing and wheezing. The solution is to find cats that produce less of this irritating allergen - hypoallergenic cat breeds.

The main difference between the cats that give you watery eyes and make you sneeze and wheeze and the cats that do not cause this reaction is that hypoallergenic cats produce fewer allergens.

Hypoallergenic Cat Breeds and Characteristics

Siberian - Athletic, energetic, big and powerful. In spite of its long, beautiful coat, 75 percent of allergy sufferers are unaffected by this breed. The Siberians possess a dog-like devotion to their human companions, including children

Balinese - This breed is considered the smartest of all breeds. They may not look like they would be hypoallergenic but, in fact, they are. A unique characteristic is that they love to hang out in high hiding places. Similar in looks to the Siamese, they are smaller and have a longer, silkier tail.

Javanese - Intelligent, playful, vocal, and people-oriented. They have beautiful markings and are slender with blue eyes.

Cornish Rex - A distinguishing feature of this breed is their short coat of curly washboard waves. Most allergy sufferers are less affected by them even though these cats are not really hypoallergenic. They are extremely affectionate and playful, and have an average lifespan of 15 years.

Sphinx - The natural oils of this breed can produce a build up on their skin so that they need frequent baths. This means that even though these cats are hairless, they do still have the ability to evoke allergic reactions. Known for its fast metabolism and abundance of energy.

Devon Rex - The cats in this breed are intelligent, active, playful and affectionate. They make ideal companions for humans and other pets. They are noted for their curly coat, large ears and wedge-shaped head.

Oriental Shorthair - It's hard to believe but this breed comes in over 300 colors and patterns. They need a lot of attention, and will let you know by their vocalizing if they are not getting enough of it!

Keep in Mind When Adopting or Buying

People are affected differently by different breeds of cat. One person may not be affected by a certain breed while another person may have allergic reactions to the same breed. For this reason, before you buy or adopt a cat, you should try to spend some time with it. And if your children have allergies, they should also spend some time with the cat prior to bringing it home. The worst thing for a cat is to bring it home and then have to return it when you find out you will not be able to keep it.

You can find the perfect feline companion! You just need to take the time the right breed for you.

Unlike dogs which are normally boisterous and require attention, cats are pleased to control their home and people in an inconspicuous manner. Pleased to operate under the radar, cats naturally are discreet animals that stay away from undue attention. Nonetheless, on occasion this rule is broken when instances of extraordinary cats come to light that you simply can't overlook. Naturally, dramatic bodily features are the initial characteristics that may catch ones eye, but there are others too. Let's take a moment to look at four astonishing cats that have acquired a world's record.

The World's Heaviest Cat

Cats frequently come in all shapes and sizes, but you'd be hard-pressed to miss Himmy. This desexed tabby cat from Australia, supposedly weighed a staggering 21.3kg (46.8 lbs). Astonishingly, Himmy had a 15-inch neck, was 38 inches long and had a 33-inch waist. Even if clearly the heaviest cat on record, there were several other cats that gave Himmy a run for his money. Snowbie is a Scottish cat that weighs roughly 44 lbs, while the Russian Katy is close behind. Oddly enough, the Guiness Book of World Records won't approve any cat as a world record holder because the don't want to encourage pet owners to over-feed their animals.

Methusela Cat

Because everybody has a birthday, it's simple to recognize a record like that of the world's oldest cat. Sadly the effects of the aging process on a cat are exactly like those on human including both mental and physical effects. Although greater age has its drawbacks, there are positive aspects too, as Creme Puff can confirm. The mixed breed cat from Austin, Texas, was born on August 3, 1967, and lived to be 38 years old. Owner Liz Bilson credits Creme Puff's longevity to an active way of life that included regularly catching mice in an outdoor garden shed for the first twenty years of her life.

Longest Cat

There appears to be a world record that touches numerous physical qualities for cats, and Mymains Stewart Gilligan from Reno, Nevada, is a particularly large cat. Stewie, as he's known, possesses Guinness World Record for the Longest Cat after being measured at 48.5 inches. A six-year-old Maine Coon owned by Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness, Stewie holds more than just the one world record too. Twelve months after being awarded the record, Stewie was awarded the Guinness World Record for the World's Longest Tail on a Domestic Cat. Measured at the local Humane Society, Stewie's tail measured in at 16.34 inches, making this house cat the only cat on earth with multiple world records.

The World's Smallest Cat

World records invariably manage to focus on records such as the largest or fastest, but Mr. Peebles demonstrates that you can still earn a world record without having great size. A cat of unidentified breed, Mr. Peebles lives in a Pekin, Illinois, veterinary facility and has been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest living domestic cat; the two-year-old cat weighs a mere 3 lbs. Cared for collectively by the clinic's employees, Mr. Peebles was taken in by Dr. Donna Sassman when the cat was presented to her during a house call. Interested in the cat's size, it was soon established that Mr. Peebles has a genetic defect that causes his small stature. A loving cat, Dr. Sassman states that he was named after a ventriloquist's dummy on an episode of Seinfeld.

Cats are impressive animals and often try to avoid undue attention, but certainly these four world-record cats are truly amazing.

What's more, cats need our attention, especially when it comes to helping them remain healthy. As caring owners, it's our obligation to look after our pets, but even when we supply balanced nutrition, not to mention plenty of love and attention, cats can certainly still become ill. Thus, in order to spare them the anguish and discomfort of an illness, it's wise to get acquainted with some of the most well-known conditions to be able to swiftly detect the problem and get your pet the medical attention it deserves.

Annoying Fleas

Fleas are routine pests that can not just make our pets miserable, but endanger their very lives. Although most people comprehend that flea bites are uncomfortable for their cat, the ailments that can be transmitted typically pose a much more significant danger than simple short-term discomfort. For instance, the flea typically discovered on cats (Ctenocephalides felis) can transport tapeworm larvae, which if eaten can lead to a severe tapeworm infestation. Additionally, significant flea infestations can lead to anemia in kittens when the fleas literally drink so much blood that the animal doesn't have adequate iron. To avoid such a situation, all mature fleas must be killed and this can be accomplished using a variety of commercial products. Ask your vet for individual recommendations.

Hairballs: More Than Just a Hassle

Few people forget the tortuous sound of their cat regurgitating a hairball; it's not only distressing for the owner, but the cat surely doesn't enjoy this event either. Hairballs are produced either at the back of the throat or in the small intestines right after the cat ingests hair while grooming, nonetheless this can be avoided. Among the easiest treatments is to remove the cat's excess hair with regular brushing. Plus, there is a variety of products that can be used to circumvent hairball build-up such as treats, oils and even a special diet. Having said that, if after trying to resolve the issue your cat is still experience a hairy time, a trip to your vet is in order.

Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism, also referred to as an overactive thyroid, is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. Generally prompted by a tumor on one of the lobes of the thyroid gland, this disorder only carries a 2-5% chance of malignancy. Symptoms feature an increased thirst or appetite, substantial weight loss, depression, frequent vomiting, lethargy and diarrhea, among others. A cat with this condition may not exhibit all signs and symptoms, but the existence of at least two demands a trip to the vet's office. Should your cat be diagnosed with an overactive thyroid, treatment methods include medicine, surgery or radioiodine.

Overweight Cats

As with humans, obesity in cats is rising; recent reports have shown that as many as 50% of cats are overweight. While there can be many contributing factors, the greatest source of this issue is free feeding, or leaving dry food out for the cat all day. Moreover, high-carb dry foods and a sedentary lifestyle coupled with the diminished caloric needs of many neutered and spayed cats merge to intensify this problem. Unfortunately, this challenge leads to a variety of health problems, which includes diabetes and an elevated probability for a wide range of illnesses. The best bet is to limit feeding to two times daily and use a canned cat food containing fewer carbohydrates.

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD)

An umbrella term for a number of conditions that affect the bladder, FLUTD can be painful with the potential to be fatal. Some conditions normally found in this diagnosis include Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), urinary stones and urethral obstruction among others. Warning signs of these conditions can include inappropriate or difficult and frequent urination, lost of appetite, listlessness, blood in the urine or frequent licking of the genitals. Although this normally affects middle-aged, overweight cats living primarily indoors, there are some steps that can be taken to reduce the likelihood of problems. Promoting the greater consumption of clean water using devices such as a cat fountain and quickly identifying a building problem can be important to limiting the progression of those conditions.

While there are many of common cat illnesses, these are the most prevalent. Hopefully, by establishing an awareness of what to look for you will be able to quickly identify your cat's health condition before it grows serious.

Cheryl Brotsmith is a passionate cat owner who's lived through emergencies with her family of curious cats including Paco, Bob & Mr. Jigglesworth. As a result, she's discovered cat insurance indispensible in constraining big vet bills and is a devoted proponent of pet insurance for every owner.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/about-household-furniture-rental/"></g:plusone>

There are many companies out there that rent furnishings by the month. You need a chair? Rent a single for only $40 a month. Need a lamp? You can get 1 for $12 30 days. Now, let's observe, in one year you would have paid $480 to utilize the lounger and you wouldn't purchased it. The lamp fixture would have run you $144 and it's the identical situation ~ at the conclusion of your book, you still own nothing.

The majority of us would believe it silly to rent furniture. Nevertheless, that isn't always true. There are situations where renting may be the best option. Consider these scenarios:

* Your company moves you to a whole new location though the rest of your family is staying in your existing home before the school yr ends as well as that's 4 several weeks away. You get a house and also live in the idea until your family arrives. Can you go out and buy fresh furniture as well as do you lease a few necessities in the meantime?

* Immediately after you get hitched, you move right into a new home. You and your spouse haven't decided the way you want to decorate your home. Can you rush your own decisions as well as do you book furniture before you find the fashion that will make you happy both?

* Anyone graduate from university and accept a position within an unfamiliar metropolis. You find an apartment that has anything you want, other than furniture. An individual can't afford to decide to purchase the things you'll need without delay. What do you do?

When you are in any of those situations, renting all or a part of your home furniture may be a workable option. One thing you have to keep in mind is that it's never ever a long-term answer. From the figures in the first paragraph, you can see how costly renting ends the long haul.

Even so, when you find yourself without furniture, temporary rental could be your best option. In the event you don't have the cash or perhaps credit to purchase what you need, or if you only prefer to be without household furniture for a little while, short-term rental will be the best solution.

Many furniture local rental companies supply several options out there. Most of them offer packages in various price ranges, according to the style superiority the furniture you're looking for.

* The bedroom package deal usually includes a double or queen-size bed, night time stand and lamp, and 1 chest muscles.

* A living place package provides a couch, conclusion table as well as lamp, cocktail table, along with a chair.

* Any dining room package includes a kitchen table and Several chairs.

* An entire home package has all of the above.

* You may also rent any accessories you will need, including pots and pans and china, rugs, additional lamps, TV's, stereo systems, etc.

Providing you rent only what you need along with do so for as short an occasion as possible, furnishings rental would be the solution you'll need. But, don't forget about to estimate the cost of the rent or perhaps mortgage combined with the cost of the furniture leasing before you decide which package to choose.

If financial resources are an issue, one question you have to ask yourself is that this: do you really need the priciest package or can you make do with the more generic and economical selection for 2 or 3 or even 4 a few months? Unless you plan to do a lot of organization entertaining, the reply is obvious.

Simply speaking, furniture hire can be an financially sound treatment for your problem, if you are using your common sense and don't enter over your head. The idea beats using the floor every day!

However, before you bring your new family member home, there are several things that you need to consider. There are a large number of different items which you will need to purchase to ensure that your new kitten is healthy and happy.

Some of pet supplies that you look for are necessary and others will be bought through choice. Cats and kittens love to play; therefore, cat toys and treats are an important factor to consider. However, before you choose these items, you must look at essential pet supplies. Buying these is vital and will guarantee that your kitten is well looked after.

Cat litter and the tray to place it in is one of the important factors to consider and you will need to ensure that your cat has both. If you do not train kittens to use the litter try from the moment they come home, they will find somewhere else to go to the toilet. Once this becomes a habit it can be difficult to encourage them to go elsewhere.

Scratching posts are an extremely important item to purchase and will ensure that your cats sharpen their claws where they are supposed to. Kittens love to scratch and climb; therefore, buying tall scratching posts allow them to do both. Providing the cats with a suitable place to scratch will deter them from using your furniture.

Food and water needs to be given to the kittens in their own bowls, and the food you choose must be for kittens. Feeding adult cat food to a young kitten is never a fantastic idea and can give them an upset stomach. Kittens have different nutritional requirements than adult cats and they will burn off energy far quicker, therefore, needing more meals throughout the day.

Cat carriers are essential for you to be able to transport your kittens safely and securely. You will need something to bring your kitten home in, and then in the future to take them to the vet. In the early days, your kitten will visit the vet often for their vaccinations and general checkups. Cats will be far happier travelling in cat containers if they have done so from an early age.

A collar and name tag are an essential purchase for your kitten and will ensure that people know that it has a home. House cats do not need a collar; however, if your cat is going to go out and about it is advisable. The collar that you choose should fit well, and the disc should have your contact details displayed.

Beds are an item that are often bought but never used by the kittens, you will find that they love to fall asleep everywhere. Cats are very loving and will want to sleep with you, and sit on the couch, bed, and chairs. You may want to purchase a bed for your cat, but do not be disappointed if the kittens do not use it at all.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/4-benefits-about-taking-home-a-rescue-animal/"></g:plusone>

Many people thinking about buying a pet consider a local breeder or a pet store as the initial stop in their search for a pet, but the local animal shelter should be put at the front of their list. You will find reasons big and small to help your nearby shelter, all of which provides future owners an exceptional experience in every way. From a big picture point of view, adopting a shelter animal is a concrete part of solving the animal overpopulation problem that our culture has brought upon itself; it's estimated that 12 Million healthy animals are killed in shelters annually because nobody will adopt them. But the reward for adopting a rescued animal is not just that it spares a life, it's also because rescue animals offer significant benefits to the new pet owner. Let's look at several of these rewards that new owners will value.

An Awareness of Personality

Though there are a handful of positives to obtaining a pet from a commercial source, the new pet owner is taking a risk on how that animal's personality will develop and whether it will be conducive to its living circumstances. Sure, all puppies are lovable and playful but nobody can say precisely what the grown dog's temperament will be until it is two years old. Therefore owners may be rolling the dice to determine if they receive a constantly energetic, sluggish or aggressive dog. Each time a rescue dog is chosen, it has normally made it through the obligatory developmental period and had established its personality. Hence it's easier to select a pet that an owner can actually evaluate.

Exceptional Devotion

Usually most rescue animals have not gotten off to a smooth start in life, so once they have become used to their new living condition shelter animals usually exhibit remarkable loyalty and devotion. Much of this behavior in dogs is usually attributed to their natural tendency to become a member of the pack and owners as well as their families are valued members of the dog's group. A dog that has been mistreated or abandoned once is normally eager to become part of a supportive pack, where she feels safe, reliable and is likely to act accordingly. While cats don't have ties to pack behaviors, their loyalty and affection are equal to that of dogs though they may convey it differently. Obviously, a shelter animal's incredibly loyalty is a great benefit.

Getting A Head Start

When bringing a pet home from a breeder or pet shop, many new pet owners commonly pick a puppy or kitten without fully understanding the level of work required. Effectively they are introducing an infant into their home that is fully dependent on them for care, not to mention untrained and un-socialized. The upshot is often a labor intensive period when an owner must constantly keep track of the young animal to ensure that they are cared for as well as trained. Those that adopt a shelter animal will find that the dog or cat has been fostered and socialized by a volunteer to make sure that the animal has the necessary skills to make it a good adoption, which includes being housebroken. So adopting a shelter animal offers owners a head start.

No Nasty Medical Situations

Unfortunately there are numerous unscrupulous people who breed and sell animals with undiagnosed medical conditions, however this is unlikely to occur when one adopts a rescue animal. Although some animals that come to the shelter may have had a health issue, upon arrival they receive an extensive physical examination, are spayed or neutered, have been tested for heart worm and even brought up to date on their required shots! When one buys a puppy from a pet store, these steps are hardly ever taken, which leaves the new owner with the risk of a possible medical problem, not to mention the cost of the medical care. So a big advantage of adopting a shelter animal is the absence of nasty medical predicaments.

Adopting a cat or dog ought to be a fun experience for both the animal as well as its new family, however possible owners will find that by selecting a shelter animal as opposed to an animal from a commercial source has considerably more benefits.

Regina T. Roby is an avid pet owner that has encountered firsthand purchasing pets commercially and adopting them from a local shelter. No matter the source, she still ensures the capability to treat her pets: her dog Golden Retriever Paco is covered by a dog insurance policy and her accident-prone cat Mr. Whiskers regularly depends on his cat insurance policy to reduce unpleasant financial surprises.

Here are some useful dog care ideas that could come up big when taking care and ensuring the health of your pocket pooch.

How To Feed A Small Dog

Naturally you're going to feed your dog daily, but the standard-size kibble at the grocery store may be too large for your small dog to eat comfortably. You'll need to be sure to buy a kibble designed to fit his smaller mouth (these are easy to find among the premium dog food brands). Canned soft foods are another option that would work for a small dog.

Keeping Your Small Dog Under Control

It's but natural for the canine species - they need to potty and play outside, and having a fenced-in yard is all the security a small dog could want for. Not necessarily when it comes to small dogs. I suppose you see that hole in between the fences - small enough for bigger dogs not to escape, but just the right size for your small dog to beat a hasty retreat. Fences also can't provide overhead protection from large hawks, which sadly have been known to carry small dogs and puppies away. Your small dog could benefit more from a covered kennel run.

Training Your Small Dog

An overwhelming majority believes that small dogs turn out to be spoiled, even if there isn't much difference between training them and training larger dogs. Hey, it doesn't matter whether your Lilliputian little buddy can fit in your pants pocket - small dogs still see themselves as part of a pack, and if you're not the boss, HE is the boss. It's a wise idea to make sure your small dog is thoroughly housetrained, no matter how small and inconsequential the mess might seem when he misses. Set the ground rules and enforce them consistently, so say the experts, but never resort to physical or verbal abuse, especially when it comes to small dogs. Have him sit or do tricks before you give him a tasty treat or even his meal.

Small Dog Grooming Tips

You also want to be particular when it comes to grooming and small dog care. Small dogs require more frequent nail trimming than larger dogs, because they typically spend less time on rough surfaces wearing them down. While bigger dogs can do with one brushing a week, you'll need to brush small dogs' teeth twice a week due to their soft food diet.

As you can see, small dog care largely follows the same route as care for any other sized dog. Pay attention to the minute differences, as these considerations mean the most in ensuring your small dog is well taken care of.

It shouldn't be too tight or too loose. Ideally, the space between the dog's neck and the collar should be two fingers wide.

The dog leash

If the owner is fond of bringing his dog to the park or just for a walk around the corner, it is best to buy a quality leash. It will make things so convenient.

Bowls for food and water

Dogs are like people too. Food and water bowls of good quality should be bought for dogs.

Doggie toys

Most dogs are fond of playing, so, it's best to give them toys to gnash, chew, or bite with. Your dog will behave better and refrain from chewing your slippers or shoes if he has his own things.

The doghouse

Dogs should also have their own place outside. This is to keep them away from direct sunlight or from the rains.

It's really important to get the best dog accessories. Doing so will teach your dogs to respect you more.

If you have a dog, get accessories, too.

<g:plusone size="tall" count="true" url="http://www.pet-memorial-urns-online.com/give-doggie-some-dental-care/"></g:plusone>

Many pet owners are not aware that dental care is equally essential for dogs as it is for people. Just like in people, dogs' teeth can gather plaque after eating. When plaque builds up and hardens it becomes a coarse brown substance called tartar. As tartar accumulates it can work its way under the gums and cause painful infections and gum disease. This is true with human beings, and definitely the same with animals, dogs included. You brush your teeth every day, probably three times. What does your dog do?

Teeth Brushing for Doggies

Veterinarians recommend that dog owners brush their dog's teeth at least twice a week to keep the buildup of tartar at a minimum. Most pet stores have toothbrushes and toothpaste manufactured exclusively for canines. Remember that a dog's sense of taste and smell is far more acute than that of a human and the zesty, tingly, mint taste of toothpastes for people will be extremely awful to a dog. We may find the taste of Pepsodent to our liking three times a day, but try brushing Marmaduke's teeth with it just once and he'll hate it more than he hates those neighborhood cats. Use doggie toothpaste instead, please.

Chew For Dental Purposes

Some people don't have the time or patience to brush their dogs' teeth on a regular basis. If you're one of these, you'll want to care for Chopper's choppers in another way. Because dogs love to chew, this could be a dental care solution worth looking into. This could be a perfect opportunity to take advantage of dog biscuits - they can clean your dog's teeth by breaking into small pieces upon chewing and rubbing against their chompers. The best way would still be to brush your dog's teeth on a regular basis, but we can't force you against your will - doggie biscuits could be an interesting and surprisingly effective alternative.

Mouth Disease 101 For Canines

Dogs that do not receive proper dental care and do not have access to crunchy teeth cleaning foods run the risk of several types of mouth disease. The mildest disease that could sprout as a result would be gingivitis, or the swelling and inflammation of gums, or it could be as bad as a bacterial infection that could spread from the teeth to the dog's organs. You owe it to yourself and your dog to take care of his teeth.

Doggie Dentistry

Dental services are available for dogs, just like they are for people. These dentists can specialize in capping, filling and even extracting a dog's teeth. The best course of action, however, is to avoid the need for such services by properly caring for your dog's teeth. If you can avoid unnecessary pain and discomfort for your furry friend, you should do so. Preventative doggie dental care can save you money as well. Doggie dental procedures can be quite costly.
