Pine cat litter is probably the newer litters in the marketplace. Unlike conventional clay-based and even modern clumping litters, pine litter have their own personal natural stench management due to their organic odor-killing qualities regarding pine. For that reason, it is used often by pet masters as it greatly minimizes box smell within the house.
Many individuals primarily are generally put off by the price tag. Plus, when compared with the clumping assortment, it's probably approximately two times the purchase price simply by amount. Even so, it really works by using pine pellets which have been compacted lumber, so when these types of pellets become moist, they transform into sawdust. The saw dust itself can then actually digest a lot more fluid. Hence, per use, it is really about as cost effective as more traditional sorts.
However there is certainly 1 disadvantage and that's that lots of kittens and cats hate to use it. The pellets on their own are usually rough on the toes, and lots of cats and kittens never get used to that. For that reason, certainly, your current cat's judgment is going to be the most important factor in the end in relation to deciding on the kind of littler you will choose. If however your cat seems to stay away from the ### to start with, it is possible to initiate a "break-in" period of time. Blend your cat's normal fill with pine, beginning by way of a small amount of the pine including a large quantity of the standard fill. Slowly cut down the quantity of regular and boost the amount of pine used until finally you're using just about all pine fill. Several kitties do get accustomed to making use of pine in this manner, however a few will not. Should your kitten doesn't, needless to say, then that won't be for you personally. Of course there aren't any gains if your pet won't even use the box.
A few cat masters choose to use primarily pine together with hardly any regular fill scattered on top of that permanently. That provides them the notice control of the pine fill having its advantages, but keeps kittens and cats pleasant so that they will make use of the box should they don't like pine.
One particular main concern about pine litter is always that it smells fairly powerfully of pine. Despite the fact that that is enjoyable to humans, it really is uncomfortable for cats' sensitive noses. For that reason, this particular litter may not be a product your kitty prefers because of the smell it exudes. You should know, however, that there is zero contaminated pine oils inside the fill itself any longer. They may have already been eradicated and it is perfectly safe for kitties to utilize.
Finally, when you live somewhere where your current fill may be composted, pine feline fill is often a compostable material when feces have been eliminated. This is often an environmental benefit to using pine above some other types of litter. One more state, of course, will certainly result from your cat. If he or she enjoys it, then it is a good as well as price effective strategy to control stench at home and makes washing your best cat litter far easier. If he or she does not, that's likely that you need to keep with your litter.
Should you get cat litter all over the house you may want to try using a high density foam to help contain the area. Many types of foam will actually help lock the litter box to prevent it from moving. I am a pet lover and have 3 dogs who all need to go outside almost all of the time for various things.
To help me out from going crazy, I had two of the pet doors installed in our home, making it easy for them to come and go whenever they wanted to.
The thing is though, these fine specimens of dog doors tend to break down all the time. As often as every 4-6 months, so I am left having to buy pet door replacement flaps for them.
So I go down to the pet shop to buy more replacement flaps. Ho Hum. Funnily enough, because I am in there nearly every few weeks, the store owner calls me by my first name.
When I get in the store, Jim who owns it knows exactly what I am looking for, trying not to laugh about it. I'd laugh too if it wasn't so heart breaking and frustrating. So much for my dogs loving chasing butterflies.
So after parting with over $40, Jim sells me the flaps and go on my way. It would be nice though if the flaps lived just a little bit longer.
The main thing that annoys me is that these flaps just wear out far too quick. I find that the hinges go too easily, especially with heavy use.
Funnily enough, my dogs tend to enjoy the taste and sensation of chewing on the flaps.
Once they've been chewed they let in the cold air and a very poor flap. This then means the flaps start to rattle in the wind, and this really isn't funny at night time.
We once tried switching to magnetic flaps, but found that once they wear (the cheap ones anyway), the noise they make when they rattle is far louder and more annoying,
Because of the cold drafts, the dogs prefer to come and stay in our room at night. Not really ideal though.
And unbelievably the neighbors dog has even let himself in to our home, and left his scent all over the place.
So, until recently, I'd say that we've been living in a stressful environment, just getting along with for the sake of getting along with it.
More recently we have researched modern brands, especially modern brands which are more expensive and have lot's of exciting features.
This has actually inspired us to look at things in a new light, and because of this we strongly recommend you consider a well known brand for yourself.
Woah! Do not buy cheap and flimsy pet door replacement flaps any more. It's critical that you find out which are the best and how much time and energy they can save you. It's your wallet, so make it smile by choosing the best pet door replacement flaps. It is wise to determine what kind of mange your pet has; demodectic mange or sarcoptic mange before you decide on a mange treatment. Another factor when deciding on a mange treatment depends on how severe your pets mange symptoms are. Beware... There are many mange home remedies on the internet, there are also traditional very toxic mange dips and oral medications such as ivermectin and there are also very effective topical non toxic mange treatments.
Finding a good Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange and Sarcoptic Mange is basically a two step process. You treat the infection if it is present and your treatment should kill the mange mites that are causing your pet to itch and tear its skin. This can be a pretty daunting task if you don't know how to accomplish this task easily and quickly.
Lets talk about a Mange Treatment for Demodectic Mange. Demodectic mange, sometimes also called Demo or Demodex mange most often includes infection. You can usually tell if your dog or cat has infection by just smelling your pet. If it has a septic smell, then it is most likely that your pet has infection. The skin is usually red and perhaps even raw.
You want to get control of the infection right away. You can most likely do that by using non toxic topical products currently on the market by people who specialize in mange treatments. Your pets immune system can't fight the infection at this point and it needs help by using non toxic products such as medicated body washes made of benzalchonium chloride. Beware of toxic products or mange treatments that is so strong, it will burn your pets already inflammed skin! You want to stop the infection as quickly as possible and not cause more skin problems. If the infection is bad enough, the infection could get into your pets blood stream and your pet would then have to be treated orally with antibiotics.
The trick to a good and effective mange treatment is finding one that is a non toxic topical product. You don't have to make your pet sicker by applying toxic dips or giving him oral toxic medications such as ivermectin. Why treat the entire pet when you only have to treat him topically? Why bring his immune system down? These toxic dips and oral products reduces your pets immune system even more and it can't fight bacl. Your pets immune system is usually shot by this time and it is already compromised; that's why it can't fight back the mites. So why make it worse?
Sarcoptic Mange does not require a lengthy Mange Treatment and it can usually be corrected within a couple of weeks. The Sarcoptic mites burrow themselves just below the top layer of the skin and they are much easier to reach. In many cases, infection is not present and the dogs immune system is not compromised. There is no need to use harsh toxic dips or oral medications as a Sarcoptic Mange Treatment.
You normally want to continue The Mange treatment several weeks after symptoms stop, the skin has healed and/or hair has started to grow back. It is also recommended that you give your pet vitamins to boost its immune system; this way he will be stronger to fight a future mange infestation.
Pets with mange symptoms are required to be isolated away from other pets to avoid cross contamination. Wash your pets bedding daily and keep your pet out of your own bed. Thoroughly clean a good Disinfectant Spray. Do not reintroduce the bedding, toys or any other items that the pet usually uses until the infestation has been contained and treated. If your pet gets reinfested with mange mites or the pet is not treated, the bed cleaning will have to be repeated again and again until the pet is mange-free.

Mange is a skin condition that includes scabies, red mange, ear mite infections and cheyletiella which is caused by mites in mostly dogs and cats. The veterinarian can offer the right advice and provide the correct Mange Medicine for your pet.
Some of the more severe manifestations of Mange, Sacoptic Mites, Demodex Mites and Ear Mites, need to be closely checked by a veterinarian otherwise your pet may face severe health issues. Although these cases are the most severe, there are many other types of Mites that can be dangerous to not only dogs and cats but livestock as well.
One of the first symptoms that a dog with Scabies will present is a crusting of the skin on the ear. Intense irritation can be caused by the Notoedres Mite and Sarcoptic Mange can also affect humans. With all of the intense itching it is possible for the mites get transferred to humans and cause them to itch as well, however, the symptoms will disappear in a couple of weeks if the pet is disinfected.
It is important to treat these conditions as quickly as possible, as the discomfort can become quite severe. Seepage, scabs or boils may begin to appear as well as balding skin patches. If that happens, the vet will likely have to do a biopsy to check for other types of infections that may have developed.
The vet will need to give the pet periodic injections of Ivermectin for a up to four weeks. Bath your pet with dandruff shampoos and dab the affected area with insecticides recommended by the pet. The steroid cortisone and antibiotic creams would relieve the redness and itching.
The Demodex variation of the infection is not contagious, but you still want to get it checked out and treated as quickly as possible, because you run the risk of causing a secondary infection in your pet if you don't. With Demodex, your pet will experience the same itching, irritation and discomfort as with the other types of Mange, so of course you want to relieve your pet from that in the fastest time.
Not all dogs and cats are affected by this mite but some of them are severely affected and this is caused by hormonal changes, suppressed immunity system or a genetic disorder. This disorder is seen mostly in pups going through hormonal changes and most animals recover from it without treatment.
Baths are excellent for treating and soothing a pet who is afflicted with Mange. You should also use any tonics or vitamins that you get recommendations about from your veterinarian. There are several vitamin choices that will help boost your pet's immune system and make him less likely to suffer for too long.
Ear mites cause intense itching and discharge in the ear in dogs and cats. Cats are more sensitive to chemicals hence it's important to consult the vet in how to safely treat the feline.
Homeopathic treatments are a popular choice for many pet owners and they can be a good choice for pets that have sensitivity to certain medications. But, again, the first course of action is to talk to your vet. Of course the most important thing is the proper care, nutrition and cleansing of your pet to help prevent him from getting any of the varieties of Mange ever again.
If your dog has mange and needs a remedy or medicine to help, you should find a mange spray. There are tons of mange medicine that you can find on the Net that could help. You can house train a cat easily. But your pet might not be the most compliant kind. You might have a rebellious cat that prefers to follow its own rules. If this is the character of your cat, you are in for some complications. However, if you follow these tips on how to train a cat, you will have a perfectly-trained cat in no time.
Because cats are stubborn and independent, you might have a hard time making them do certain things. But if there is one thing that you should make them do, it's using the litter box. This is because cats are very particular about where they move their waste. If they have been trained to do it in a litter box, you don't have to worry about them soiling other parts of your house. Cats tend to have a rebellious attitude, but as long as you don't forget to do your part in your owner-and-pet relationship, you'll be able to handle everything.
So, you'd basically want to start with training your cat to use his litter box. Your task in this regard is to keep the litter box clean. If it's already full and dirty, clean it right away. If you forget to do this one little thing, you will be rewarded with a misbehaving cat. Kittens, for example, will soil the laundry or some house furniture if they find their litter box not to their liking when it comes to cleanliness. If this happens, you will find it difficult to retrain them to use the litter box. So to save you grief, you must always clean the litter box.
Making your cat learn that the litter box is for waste is very easy. You can do this while it's still a kitten. By keeping it in the kennel all night and placing it right away in the litter box in the morning is one way. Putting the kitten in the box right after eating, drinking, or napping is another. If you see the kitten looking for a place where it can move waste, put it in the litter box at once.
Training your cats in a loving way is important but your praises will go ignored. Cats are not dogs. They do not thrive on praises and affection. However, once they are taught that the litter box is for waste, they will learn right away.
For example, if you cannot be with your cat all the time, you must leave it in only one room. The litter box should also be in this room so that it can do its business while you're gone. If they do not use the litter box, pick up the waste with a scoop and put it in the box. Your cat will eventually get the idea.
For help in training your cat, you can always buy training aids from nearby stores or online. They will surely help you go about training your cat.
But do not rely heavily on these tools. Your loving guidance should be the number one tool in training your cat. You have to do it consistently, patiently, and lovingly. Eventually, your cat will follow what you ask of him to do. If this happens, your training is successful.

The most common cat health problems could have your cat in his or her death bed. As you know, when your feline friend has a problem, you need to get them to a vet as fast as you can. If you want to be considered a good pet owner, you should find the best vet that is recommended for the health problem your cat is having. There are many problems that you can run into when you have a cat and in this article, you will know more about the bad health problems your feline can have.
The first problem you need to handle when you get your cat is to get them their shots and spayed or neutered in order to stop some of the problems that will be talked about in this article. You will find that cats are very delicate animals and using the best products will ensure they get the healthy body they need. The foods you buy them will also play a role in helping them live a long healthy life.
For those cat owners that don't know what types of food to purchase, they will need to give their cats the right type of diet. This will reduce the number of health problems they can have later in their life. The other thing to make sure of is that they do not eat human food. Human food can increase their chances of getting parasites from food that have been in the trash or even food that have been out for a few hours.
The health of your cat will be your responsibility. This means that you will need to know about what problems they can get. Many diseases and parasites can infect your cat. So you must find the proper medications to keep him or her healthy.
What do I mean by medicine? I mean prevention for heartworms. Heartworms eat at the heart which can shorten the life of your cat. Heartworms can be fatal within several years. There are many products you can find that will help fight and protect against heartworms. They can help stop the worms from getting into the heart. The medicine that's right for your cat is the medicine that is recommended by a reliable veterinarian. The vet can give you the right ideas such as when to adminster the heartworm prevention and how much to give.
There are actually some foods that can result in heartworms. So if you want your cat to avoid heartworms, you need to make sure they eat the right foods. Prevention can also help here. Watch your feline outside and clean out the litter box each night. You should visit the vet on a regular basis.
Are hairballs a problem for your feline? If your cat has problems with hairballs, you may be able to help her by purchasing the correct foods. There are plenty of foods available in a pet store that can combat hairballs and reduce the amount of hairballs they have to put up with.
Tick and flea prevention should be set up for your feline when you get her. Your pet's health can be negatively affected by parasites such as fleas and ticks. Ticks can do harm to the body because they can cause many diseases. They can cause your pet to suffer through some detrimental health problems.
Having fleas is another pest problem for felines and can cause them to have bad health as well. The prevention of fleas will be a good idea if you have a cat because fleas can very well kill your feline if you don't get this problem treated. There isn't much you can do when your cat is young, but there is some powder you can use that helps cut down on them.
If fleas and ticks are a problem for your fluffy feline, then you must take your cat to a vet to see if all is well with their health after being exposed to them. Your feline needs a medication that can eliminate the fleas and ticks. You can speak to a vet to get this information. The vet will help you find a reputable brand that can assist your cat in eliminating this problem.
You will have a healthy feline if you are able avoid most cat health problems. But you have to know about the other health conditions that your feline can get. A condition that is common among many cats is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). You should be careful about the litter that you purchase because your cat can get a UTI if you use the wrong litter.
The chemicals in some types of litter can harm the urinary system which can result in a UTI. If you want to avoid problems with a UTI, you must find the type of litter that helps prevent UTIs. The litter that you purchase should be safe for your feline to use. The vet needs to see her in order to make sure she gets the right medications that can help her eliminate this problem. UTI occurs often with males and rarely with females. Your cat can die from a UTI if your cat does not get looked at by a vet.
Another bad health problem that cats can get is feline leukemia. This is the most common cause of cancer and may harm your cat's immune system. It can cause the death of your furball at home. That's why it's important to get your cat the proper vaccines to prevent this problem. The problem with feline leukemia is to make sure that there are no other cats around because it is very contagious and can cause the death of many cats.
The responsibilities you have as a pet owner is to make sure you give your pet the right care. Taking your bundle of joy to the vet can prevent him or her from suffering any prolonged problems with their health. Cat health problems can be handled easily when you get to it before the problem starts. In order to find additional information on how to help your kitten avoid the health problems mentioned in this article, you should check out the Internet for more information that pertains to these health problems. The pet you have at home needs to be in perfect health and needs to be loved by you.

Congratulations on your new found friend you got there as that little kitten truly is a beauty. You should hold that kitten close to you and never let go. You should also not forget that your kitten must be trained. Training a kitten can be difficult but it is not impossible. Training your kitten should include teaching him or her everything from using the litter box to not scratching the couch. Within this article, we are going to tell you a bit of information about training kittens.
While you are instilling discipline to your cat, you must avoid using tough punishments. No matter what you do, you should not 'spank' the cat simply because he or she did not do something that you ordered. You should utilize positive actions and avoid negative ones as you are training your kitten.
When you use negative actions such as yelling at your cat, or hitting your cat, you will find that this type of "punishment" generally is not acknowledged by him or her. These pets are known for taking these adverse actions and associating them with you and not with the bad behavior. As a result of this, the relationship between you and this pet will more than likely be strained.
Training your kitten when they are still little can make training them a lot easier than waiting until they are a full grown cat. This is because they are not set in their ways when they are still a kitten. They are merely in the new stage so this makes them easy to train. The training will be more open, because when you are young all you want to do is learn.
When you bring your kitten home, the first thing you must do is show him where he or she needs to do their business. To find the best place for the kitten to potty is to find the place that she can remember and get to as easily as possible. You should also make sure you use some good litter and a great litter box. On a side note, always keep that area clean. Kittens automatically know what to do when it comes to using the litter box. That's a natural instinct that they learn when they are young. Using the right type of litter for the kitten can be important for the kittens' health when he or she gets older.
If your cat is bored, he or she might become destructive and overly active. Playing with your kitten everyday is vital. When you neglect your cat she might stop using the litter box. Regular sessions of playtime and constant attention can prevent this from happening. Occassionaly, litter box problems can go away overnight.
When the kitten does just what you want them to do, then you should give them rewards. The reward could be something as little as petting them and whispering to them. You could even give them a cat treat. There are many cat treats that you will be able to buy in the store, but you should make sure you get the ones that are the healthiest.
It is important to catch your kitten while they are in the act if you want to ensure that he or she learns the proper way to do something. Water is something that kittens hate. One trick to stop the bad behavior from a kitten would be to spray some water in their face. You can also use anything that makes a loud noise such as a whistle since kittens hate loud noises.
When you have a kitten, apart from training, you should make sure you spend time with him or her each day. As you are spending time together, your little one is going to get fond of you and will learn that you are their friend. When your cat is doing something that is not acceptable in your case, then you should let them know this. You should do this by correcting that behavior and showing them what is the right way. Keep in mind that cats are known for having attention spans that are short.
Congratulations on your kitten and make sure you take care of him or her. Kitten training is not something that is hard to do. If you love animals, then you will enjoy training them. If you have not gotten a kitten yet, then you should make sure you are fully ready to get one. There are hundreds, thousands and even millions of cats that wind up neglected and put in animal shelters only because people found they were not able to care for their cats. They found that the cats were a nuisance or they simply lost all interest in them.

With the popularity of raw food for both dogs and cats, not surprisingly we have now a number of options to make it easier for us pet lovers to feed our cats and dogs a nutritious species appropriate diet. Or at least they should be species appropriate... many manufacturers will lump cats and dogs together when in fact cats have very specific requirements that may not be met when purchasing a commercial raw food.
When you decide to buy prepared raw food for your kitty, here are some things you HAVE to look out for:
1.Calcium/Phosphorus ratio. Cats, as opposed to dogs, have quite a narrow range of the calcium to phosphorus content of their diet. The ideal range for cats is 1.2 - 1.4:1 Calcium is found in bone and phosphorous is found in muscle meat and organs. Various types of meat will have various levels of phosphorous. When purchasing a raw prepared diet it is a must that the food has the correct ratio of calcium and phosphorous. If the information is not readily available on the manufacturers web site, nor on the package, you will need to email and call them. Make sure you get a definitive answer with the exact numbers including how they arrived to them. An imbalance of Calcium and Phosphorous can cause a serious imbalance. Next is the:
2.Percentage and Type of Vegetable matter. Adding some vegetables to a feline diet is OK as long as it is a small percentage. 3-5% is OK. The food you feed should contain max 10% veggies. No grains, of course! The percentage may not be readily available and you may need to contact the manufacturer. Garlic and onions can cause anemia in cats and should never be used. Tomatoes can exacerbate arthritis and most vegetables will raise the urinary pH which can cause urinary tract issues. Herbs should never be used long term and are frequently added to raw prepared diets. We would avoid any pet food containing herbs. Many herbs safe for dogs and humans are toxic to cats. Next We Have:
3.Organ meats. Optimally felines should consume somewhere about 10% of organ meats. Does the food contain organ meats and at what proportion? What type of organs are included? Organs provide important vitamins and other nutrients vital for the cat.
4.Taurine. Taurine is an essential amino acid. Cats are unable to synthesize Taurine, therefore it needs to be provided in the food. In the wild cats naturally consume meats and prey high in Taurine. Mice are naturally very high in Taurine. A cat eating plenty of mice would be assured of their Taurine requirement. But what cat eats fresh mice regularly? While all meats contain Taurine to some degree, handling and freezing the meat diminishes the amount. Some meats, like rabbit have a dangeroulsy low amount of Taurine while chicken hearts have a high amount. Why keep track of all that when it is so easy to add some taurine yourself? Not only is taurine inexpensive it takes a second to add some to the food at the time of feeding. We recommend about 1000 mg per pound of meat. In the early days of commercial pet food, thousands of cats died before the pet food companies discovered that they have to add taurine. Taurine deficiencies can cause blindness and heart disease which can be fatal.
Feel free to contact manufacturers if information is not available on their websites or on the food package. If the food does not meat the standards, then find a food that does.

Every owner will have cat health questions from time to time. Short of calling a vet or paying for an expensive visit every time a little issue crosses your mind, you have to find resources that will give you answers directly. Cats are a pleasure to have in the home, but their health must be looked after just as any other animal requires.
You are probably already familiar with the most basic issues of cat health. You likely know how to look after the litter box so it remains sanitary and smell free, but are you aware of some of these other health issues?
Are pain medications safe for a cat?
If your cat were to somehow get injured and appeared to be in severe pain, what would you do? This is a common issue with cat owners, because this species of pet is very good at hiding signs of pain. Some pets actually have to be in severe pain for it to really be obvious, but you can assume there is pain if they are less active, hiding, or just not acting like themselves after an accident or mishap of some sort.
The good news is there are some specific pain killers that are safe for cats as long as they are given in the right dosage and at the right intervals. If you think your cat is in pain take them to the vet and never try to medicate them on your own.
Can felines give a disease to humans?
It is hard for many owners to even entertain the idea that their beloved pet could actually pass a disease or health condition to their own body. The truth is there are some feline diseases and conditions that can in fact be passed to humans.
So, does this mean cats living inside the home are unsafe or unsanitary? Absolutely not! It just means that you have to take proper care of your cat to ensure everyone stays healthy and disease free. Proper care includes looking after the litter box so it is always sanitary, bathing and grooming your pet regularly, and taking them in for all of the required vaccinations and health checks with a licensed vet.
How long will my cat live?
A feline is not going to live anywhere near as long as a human, but they are living longer in modern times than they did in the past. There are some cats living twenty or more years thanks to owners keeping them properly vaccinated and well cared for.
The average life span for a cat is around nine years, but if you are properly caring for your cat do not be surprised if your feline friend survives much longer than that.
The trick to living many years of happiness with your cat is to familiarize yourself with cat health questions that many owners remain unaware of. Proper care is the key to health and a long life span.

Cat trees are a worthwhile addition to a home with a cat in it as these trees help in creating a mental stability and they ensure that the cat gets to remain physically more active and of course they will also have something to keep them amused. It also means less chance of the cat becoming bored from being confined indoors with nothing to do for lengthy periods of time. Cats, when left indoors do not have much to be amused with and this leads to mental stagnation and laziness which is why these trees are so useful because they offer a chance to stimulate the cat's mind and body.
Cat trees can serve a very important purpose in that it can get the cat to satisfy their curiosity. The trees offer the cat a chance to climb up to different heights and there may be a few hidden spots that cats can find and amuse themselves with. In addition these trees provide an opportunity for cats to chase and climb as well as even scratch. If you own a pet then you must ensure that you provide proper ambiance to help your cat get the right amount of exercise.
Unlike humans, cats never need any outside motivation to do their exercises. As a matter of fact, if the surrounding is proper and the conditions cats will love to exercise which is why adding a cat tree and even a cat condo ensures the right conditions and the proper surroundings in which to exercise. Mostly, cat owners tend to leave their pets on their own by going out to work or for a variety of reasons.
Left to their own devices cats that have nothing to do will soon become lonely and bored and this can cause their psyche to be adversely affected. It is not a good idea to allow such a thing to occur and so it is imperative that the cat be provided the proper kind of environment. You can either keep more cats to keep them occupied or you can use a tree for the cat to climb and in this way help them remain active physically and mentally.
Giving your cat a tree to play and climb on means your cat will soon start to exercise on a regular basis and this will benefit them in many ways including keeping them healthier and thereby prolonging their lifespan.
In case you own more than one cat there is no need for you to worry that you will need to pay a lot of money to buy more than one tree for your cat. It is in fact enough that you purchase a single cat tree that should be of a decent size so that all your cats can climb the tree and have a rollicking good time.
A cat's tree with a hiding spot or two makes things more interesting for the cat and the same is the case when the tree has spots where the cat can nap or scratch on a post and by providing a few well chosen toys the cats will have plenty to keep them occupied.
It is possible to pick and choose trees for cats as there are many different sizes and shapes that are out there that serve different purposes.
Cat tree furniture specifically a cat scratching tree can be used to help to make your cat mentally more stable and in addition it helps the cat get some physical activity that will amuse them and which helps to relieve the tedium of being trapped indoors for extended periods of time. The addition of a pet to a city apartment may not seem like a welcome one at first. Our places of residence are often small and cramped, and another living being in our homes could add to the clutter some more.
Then again, bringing a pet into our lives will enrich it with companionship, joy and, surely, entertainment. This is the main reason that a lot of people who reside in city apartments do, indeed, have a pet living with them.
You will see that one animal is going to be called more suitable to be in a city apartment than others are; it all depends on exactly which pets people tend to like more. Let me be objective about the situation and talk about both the pros and cons of each animal in that setting.
Let's discuss dogs first. They will be very loyal to you and are a lot more active than a cat would be. Dogs are, in all likelihood, going to follow you around quite a bit, as opposed to cats that will surely do the exact opposite of that.
If you find yourself busy and without the ability to dedicate much attention, then dogs may not be the best fit for your situation. On the other hand, someone who enjoys the companionship of a friend who's always around will appreciate this about dogs.
Cats, on the other hand, will usually stay on their own, needing a bit less attention than dogs do. They'll still come around and cuddle with you, but they're generally known to be lower maintenance.
When it comes to being active, a dog is going to have to go outside many times each day. You will like walking a dog if you enjoy being outdoors and getting fresh air.
On the flip side, having an indoor cat means that you won't have to take it outside at all. Just maintain the litter box and you will not have to think about going outside.
When we are talking about life in the city, it does seem like dogs are higher maintenance than cats are. However, numerous people do indeed love dogs.

Sarcoptic Mange - Causes, Identification, and Treatment Among the conditions that can trouble dogs, mange is one of the more unsavory and distressing conditions. The most prevalent form of mange - sarcoptic mange - is due to miniature mites that eat under the skin of the dog and feed on the base of the hair follicles.
It is this destruction by an excess of sarcoptic mites that is the root of the discomfort, and treatment needs to be applied to the cause in order to attack the problem. Identifying Sarcoptic Mites It is vital that one is aware of the cause of sarcoptic mange, and to do so it is vital that as much as possible is known about the mites that cause the condition.
Sarcoptic mites live mostly on dogs, although they can be present on other animals - particularly cats - that come into contact with the troubled dog. The mites do not live for very long - a few days is the expected life span - but they lay almost straight away, and do so by eating into the skin of the dog. The eggs are born in a short while and the process begins again, leading to more mites on the dog and a further increase of the infection.
It is absolutely essential that the mites are inhibited, and to do this the appropriate treatment must be applied. There are, however, notable signs of the onset of sarcoptic mange that the dog owner may be aware of. Indications The most obvious pointers associated with sarcoptic mange involve frequent scratching by the affected animal along with hair loss in the given areas. Sarcoptic mites on dogs tend to live in areas of less hair, although the population explosion that accompanies the onset of mange can see them damage the whole body of the animal. Unusual itching in areas where the hair is at its sparsest can be a sure sign that mange is the problem, and the skin can become red and painful as a result.
The presence of any of these signs is a pointer to mange on dogs and diagnosis should be sought very quickly. Although mange is not usually a cause of fatality it is all too easy to miss the signs in the first instance and allow the problem to develop beyond an acceptable level. There is a school of thought that the suffering suffered by the dog is thanks to allergic reaction to the mites rather than the tunnelling effect itself, but it has also been found that allergy lotions are not effective in combating mange on dogs, or in the removal of sarcoptic mites. Suffering dogs may also indicate signs of lethargy and a certain loss of appetite, as well as sleeping in irregular bursts and general signs of illness. In the face of any of these problems a closer look at the problem should be sought.

Ear mites could affect many pets, and are a regular problem that can be very distressing for the animal concerned. Furthermore, if left alone ear mites can lead to more severe and serious conditions and an unhappy period for a cat or dog. For this reason it is vital that the pet owner is told what ear mites are, how to get rid of them, and what to look for to spot them.
What are Ear Mites? Ear mites are miniscule insects that exist on the blood and nutrients found in an animal's skin; they appear as, when magnified, crabs and have legs that hook on to the host with some strength. Very hard to remove, the mite is a notably horrible creature that can bring displeasure to a much-loved family pet.
They live on the upper edges of the ear canal and thrive on the debris that is left there, and are very much contagious, moving from animal to animal very rapidly indeed. In fact, ear mites may also be passed to human sufferers, but are more likely to be seen on domestic pets and farm animals. It must be remembered they can spread between species - a cat may pass to a dog, or vice versa - and that individual animals react in various ways to the presence of mites. Ear mites are a very regular cause of illness in cats and dogs, primarily young kittens and puppies, and can cause the animal to hurt frequently.
This can cause changes later, as furious scratching - particularly in cats - may bring about blood vessels to break, bringing about unwanted infection and a more dangerous level of suffering as well as the possibility of horrible disfigurement. In addition, if left alone the mites can lead to bacterial afflictions and more, and this has been shown to lead to a rupturing of the eardrum - a painful problem that leads to deafness in the animal. How to Spot Ear Mites There are numerous pointers that give clues to the presence of ear mites in cats and dogs.
The first is the usual increase in scratching of the infected area that accompanies the onset of mites, and this can also be highlighted by an exaggerated and vigorous shaking of the head, as if trying to dislodge something that is clinging on (which is, of course, exactly what the animal is trying to do.) The ear produces wax all the time, and the presence of mites could cause this to be done.

For those of us who love our pets, we know that having an animal in the home means that certain adjustments must be made. While most people can just go out and buy new hand tufted wool rugs, for instance, owners of pets need to be a touch more careful about the stuff they bring into their home. Area rugs must be troublesome, prime quality, and able to resist friendly, gnawing lab puppies and the open claws of pussies stretching in the sunlight.
And when you have just bought your pet furniture from Petco, not just any area rug will do. So here are the top 3 area rugs for pet owners.
Area Rug 1: Braided Rugs. These kinds of area rugs provide numerous benefits for owners of pets, and in reality are sold by some of the most important names in pet providers on the market, including Orvis. Platted area rugs are sturdy, impervious to foot and paw traffic, and easy to bathe. In addition, they can be made out of many differing types of materials including mixes of cotton and polypropylene, which makes them immune to mildew, stain, sunfading and soil. And as anyone that owns a water dog knows, a mold resistant rug can be a wonderful thing.
Area Rug 2: Derclon Rugs. A synthetic, wool-like fiber that resists both stain and fading, derclon is another popular choice for those that own pets. The fact that derclon area rugs are hypoallergenic makes them perfect for owners of pets who have allergies to their pets, as well as for owners whose pets themselves have allergies - something that happens more frequently than you could think! I knew a woman whose boxer was allergic to pet dander, and she swore by derclon, because it was hypoallergenic and easy to wash.
Area Rug 3: Water Trapper Rugs. While not strictly area rugs, mats and rugs that trap water could be a pet owner's best chum. Made out of polypropolene, these rugs grab moisture off boots, shoes and paws, and keeps it out of your home. And because polypropolene drains off and dries quickly, rugs made out of them are good for spring and winter, when it feels like all anyone brings into your home is mud and snow! And one of the best benefits? They can be easily cleaned just by hosing them off.

Cat Mange is spread by mites that burrow under the skin and is a very painful problem, but one that can be treated efficiently and quickly if approached correctly. It is true that mites on cats are there as a matter of course but it is only when the infestation becomes out of control that mange is the result.
Any explosion in the mite population can be thanks to many things - disease in elderly or very young cats is one popular reason, and poor nutrition another Cat Mange is displayed by notable scratching and obvious red areas on the skin, as the mites dine on the hair follicles causing the cats coat to become untidy. There are different mites that spread mange, and the most common type is Sarcoptic mange, a disease that can also be found in people where it is known as scabies. Sarcoptic mange is volatile famously, so if there are further animals in contact with an affected cat they need also be treated.
It is wise keeping an eye open for any signs of extreme tiredness or lack of appetite, as well as poor sleep patterns and foul odors as these can also be signs that signal the onset of mange on cats. Recognizing mange is a simple affair and involves a sample of skin from the diseased area; this will identify the severity and type of mange in effect and help to identify the proper method of treatment. It is unusual but not unknown, for mange to turn life threatening, and it is usually the elderly or very young cats that are most prone to this. Any clear alterations in behavior that could indicate mange should be taken seriously and rapid treatment is recommended.
Excessive itching should be taken as a clear indication that mange may be present, and treatment should begin straight way. It is important that rapid treatment is used in treating mange, as this is not a condition that will pass over or heal of its own accord. Cat Mange, being caused by mites, must be treated quickly and efficiently and the mites eradicated in order to rectify the problem, and the treatments for doing this are very specific to the condition. If left unattended mange will only worsen as the mites take a hold; in all cases the mange can travel from a specific part of the cat's body to become an all-encompassing infection that is painful for the cat.
Treatment for mange is straightforward and usually quick, although it depends on the type of cat concerned as long haired cats are harder to treat. There are a number of ways in which mange in cats is eradicated; the application of creams and lotions is generally a preferred method, and sometimes a spray is also applied and an antibiotic prescribed. In a number of cases of mange treatment results should begin to be noticed after treatment has been ongoing for a week, but sometimes the breed, age and condition of the cat in question has an effect on the lifetime of the treatment.
Any cat mange treatment has to be one that can get deep into the cats skin and remove not only the mites but any eggs they may have laid, as mites multiply at an alarming rate and the population can increase very quickly. Attacking the mange problem at root cause is the only real solution, as once the mite population has been killed there will be no additional spread of infection and the cat should heal effectively. Cat Mange is sadly a common problem but is one that can be treated successfully with the proper approach; should a cat perform any of the symptoms described it should be treated quickly.

Mange is a problem that many animals experience in particular dogs and cats. It is surprisingly often seen, but is also easy to diagnose. Here we take a look at the way in which mange occurs, how to understand mange in pets and how it should be dealt with.
The value of knowing how mange occurs cannot be dismissed. Mange is caused by miniature mites that live in the animal's fur, and the female mange mite will bite into the skin of the animal in order to lay her eggs. This can cause an unwanted reaction in the dog or cat, and leads to persistent pain and rashes as well as other symptoms that we will look at later. The mites themselves have a life span of a short period but they reproduce at a rapid rate. It is when the mite population increases rapidly that the pet can become susceptible to mange.
Recognizing mange is relatively easy as the signs are visible and unusual. The first thing that may be noticed is more noticeable scratching, particularly in areas where the hair is at its shortest - these are where the mange mite likes to live - and this may be accompanied by loss of hair in these areas. While in only certain spots in the first instance it is often the case that mange spreads and in the worst cases can cover the body of the animal entirely.
Further symptoms can include lack of appetite, lack of enthusiasm and red areas on the skin - so called red mange - that are harmful and present great discomfort for the animal.
If mange is detected it is best to commence treatment straight away, as keeping the illness under control is vital to removing the condition. Mange is rarely a killer but can be dangerous if allowed to get out of control. It is also very painful for the animal, whose welfare should be considered at all times. Instances of mange transferring from pets to humans are known to have occurred and the most common form of mange - known as sarcoptic mange - is very contagious and occurs in humans as scabies.
It is so that mange mites are specific to different species - a dog mite will live best on dogs only, a cat mite on cats - but they can live for short periods on other than their natural host. For this reason it is best to keep uninfected people and animals away from those with the mange to be safe and sound.

The cat purr; everyone knows exactly what it means. Contentment, satisfaction, comfort and sheer, dazzling delight is felt by the precious little kitty curled up on a warm and squishy lap. Until the moment knife-sharp talons poke through your trousers to your tender thigh, the sound of a cat purring calms any weary soul.
Kittens learn to purr from a very early age; around two days old. It is likely that their communicative purrs are limited during their first weeks so when kittens suckle and purr at the same time, the likelihood is they are purring out of happiness and satisfaction. Don not be fooled however, because all these positive emotions are not the only reason cats purr. Primarily purring is a form of communication and the ability appears in a large number of big cats and wild cats, too.
Kittens are playful and curious creatures, which really suggests they are deceitful and manipulative, luring you in with their big blue eyes and telltale purring, waiting for the moment you move to stroke them so they can sink their tiny fangs into your hand. They will purr as they tear the flesh from your bones, indicating just how happy they are.
As a cat matures, the reason they purr changes. When the cat becomes older they may purr to indicate that they are happy or content with their lives. However, this is not always the case as sometimes a cat may make this noise if they are extremely frightened of something or if they are not very well. In fact, when it comes to these cats (including the feral types) they may purr to show that they submit or will not act aggressively towards others.
Also you may find that when a female is giving birth to a litter of kittens she may purr as they are being delivered. They may use this as a way of helping them to relieve some of the tension and pain they are feeling. Plus it may also provide them with reassurance and comfort. When it comes to cats purring, studies carried out have shown that it is quite common for those cats who are close to death to begin to purr as well. They feel that this type of purring is helping to create a more euphoric state in the animal or is as a result of the anxiety they are feeling.
Recent theories suggest that when cats release endorphins (also found in humans), they start to purr. Endorphins are released both when the cat is happy and when the cat is in pain, making it difficult to determine the precise reason a cat may be purring.

Is your dog's constant itching and chewing getting on your nerves? Well, did you know that your dog could actually be allergic to fleas? Their chewing and scratching is a nuisance but can you imagine how uncomfortable they must feel?
This allergy can start as early as a puppy but can also manifest itself at any time in a dog's life. Adult fleas do the biting but they cannot live for long if they are not on your cat or dog. Well, that makes me feel just a little bit better.
Did you know that adult fleas are the only ones that bite? Once they fall off the host dog or cat, they don't live. That's good to know, however, the process continues because the adult flea leaves behind eggs that will hatch and continue the process.
If you want to keep your dog flea free, then you need to continue treatment. The symptoms can be painful to the dog and an annoyance to the owners. This chronic condition left untreated can lead to behavioral problems in your pet as well.
Symptoms of an infestation will include chewing and scratching. Check your pet for signs of fleas or flea dirt by using a flea comb. If there are no visible signs of fleas, your vet might recommend testing for mites.
Fleas can also bite humans so if you think you might have an infestation in the house or yard, it's best to treat those areas as well. Really it only takes a couple of bites to set your dog's flea allergy in motion. Treating the dog without treating the home or yard can just lead to another infestation.
As you can imagine, this condition can be very painful for your dog with the chronic itching. Diagnosis and immediate treatment is critical to relieve these symptoms. Flea dips and shampoos can be used as well as a topical applied to the knap of the neck used monthly are extremely useful.
Quick diagnosis and treatment will help relive your dog from his suffering. Chewing and itching along with hair loss are sure signs of a flea allergy. Additionally you might see lesions in numerous places over the dog's body.
Remember that continuous treatment is necessary to keep your dog flea free. Initially you might have to give your dog a couple of dip baths before you notice the fleas disappearing as well as treating the interior of you home. You owe it to your pet to be diligent in the battle to rid them of fleas, and they will appreciate you for it!

Pet urns can be the best way to remember and honor the loss of your pet. You can often find them at a veterinarians office, a pet funeral home some specialized pet stores and online. With such a large selection available of pet cremation urns it can be difficult picking the perfect one to remember and honor your pet. With all the materials, styles and colors available it can be difficult making the perfect choice.
The loss of a pet can be sudden and very difficult to deal with when deciding weather to have a funeral, have a pet memorial stone or something to hold your pets ashes or mementos such as a tags or a collar and a few photos or keepsakes. Many are meant to last but you have options of burial, biodegradable or memorial type of pet urns. Many materials are used from stone such as marble, soapstone even granite. Metals can be brass, bronze or even copper. The use of wood is very common and can be woods such as cherry, walnut, oak or just pine. Ceramic pet urns are very common and can be made into many different shapes often a vase shape or even a figurine and can often be personalized with a photo of your pet.
The material of you pet urn will also determine where you may place it. You should decide in advance where you intend on placing or displaying your urn. If you place it in the elements or outside consider metal or stone if it is to be displayed indoors consider one made of wood or ceramics. Placing a metal urn outdoors will likely make it tarnish much faster regardless of the metal and will show signs within weeks. You could also consider cleaning it on a regular schedule with the appropriate cleaner. Consider trying to seal the surface with an acrylic floor wax. You can do this by wiping very slowly a sponge that has the wax poured on it this way you can avoid sightly air bubbles that may appear on the surface. The wax will not last forever but usually holds up for several months.
Photo pet urns are becoming quite popular. They are often made of many materials and have a place holder for a photo of your beloved pet. They may also have an area to engrave either a likeness of your pet and some loving words. This is often done with laser engraving. Most materials using this process are either stone or wood.
If you are looking for a burial urn that will last consider stone or a metal that does not rust. In many cases people will plant a small tree or plant or place a memorial stone over the area. Yard ornaments are often use to mark a pet memorial.
When you loose a pet it can often be overwhelming searching for the perfect urn or memorial urn. When buying a pet urn online you can often save a lot of money and find the perfect choice.

The newest cat litter to hit the market is one that is based on silica. Silica is widely used as a simple drying agent. You've seen little sachets of this material in expensive electronic or photographic equipment. The cat's litter box is laid with the silica litter just about an inch deep. That is sufficient to absorb all kitty's waste and especially the foul odor from the litter box. There's absolutely no smell anymore! Cleaning the litter is also so much easier as all the waste is as dry as a bone!
The wonderful thing about this type of cat litter is that a single one inch layer lasts for two weeks and maybe even a month for one cat. Now you don't have to re-lay the litter everyday and that's really going to get a huge round of applause from all you cat owners! But there are health concerns involved in the use of silica as a litter for cats.
Silica is rather like powdered glass. It can be quite rough on your pet's paws. Not only the bruising it may cause, you should also be aware of the danger that your pet cat may swallow the silica when it cleans its paws. This can have extreme repercussions if taken in large quantities. Even in trace quantities, the silica is likely to accumulate in the cat's intestines over a sufficient period, which is just as damaging to the cat's health.
Some owners have an issue with the fact that it is not necessary to re-lay the litter everyday. They say that litter which is not changed for two weeks or more will be a happy hunting ground for bacteria which will adversely impact your cat's health.
There is no doubt that silica cat litter is superior to the other cat litters available now. Its odor-killing quality alone is sufficient to make it the numero uno cat litter. The application cost is so very low, that even cost conscious pet owners have no reservations in using it. The daily chore of fishing around the litter box for the cat's droppings is now, no, not pleasant but, simple and bearable. You are spared the sight (and obnoxious smell, phew!) of stomach-turning slimy stuff. You just pick out some 'stones' from the litter and carry it off for disposal. Then the chore of refreshing the litter box has been erased from your daily task list. Once or twice a month is like... freedom!
The contra to these advantages is that, firstly, the cost of conventional clumping litter works out to the same as that of silica, and secondly, you get to remove the clumping litter everyday.
Lastly, the cat can be harmed by the silica particles, either by getting bruised or by licking it up. The middle path being the best path you may want to try out a mixed litter, with silica absorbing all that awfully foul odor, and the ordinary clumping to take care of all the criticisms against silica cat litter.
The decision is yours, whether or not to use silica cat litter. The advantages and disadvantages have been set out in this article for your information. Use it to ananlyze your particular situation. It's always better to make an informed decision rather than going by 'buzz'. The mixed litter does seem appealing and worth a try-out. Anything to free the house from that obnoxious stench!
Another way to avoid repeatedly cleaning up after your cat is to purchase a self cleaning cat litter box. Visit www.CatLitterBoxesPlus to read about the many cat litter options available. You'll also discover the best way to remove cat odor should any mishaps occur.

Mange in dogs is also known as Demodicosis. It is an inflammatory disease caused by a mite called Demodex. The type of mite can determine the severity of this disease.
There are several side effects of mange again, depending on the type of mite inhibiting the hair follicles and skin. Mange can cause genetic disorders; immune system problems and lesions just to name a few. Mange is not only a condition known to affect dogs but cats as well.
Demodectic mange comes in two forms. It can be localized to a particular area of the body or can be general and cover the dogs entire body. Making a determination as to which type your pet has will determine the treatment your vet will administer.
While many vets will say they do not know what might cause mange, some believe that dogs can be predisposed to this disease due to an immune system problem. Generalized mange will appear as redness of the skin and patches of lesions over the entire body. Localized mange will be around the face, trunk or legs of the dog.
There are three identifiable mites that are known to cause mange. While transmissions of two are unknown, Demodex canis has been determined to get into the hair follicle. It is assumed that this is transferred from the mother to the newborn through nursing.
Diagnosis can be made in two ways. First it is ruled out that your dog does not just have an infection of the hair follicles. The vet will take a scrape of the skin and test that or if possible, test a urine sample.
It is very possible for the localized type of mange to cure itself over time. However, the generalized mange can require a lifetime of medication and lime-sulphur dips are used to relieve symptoms. There are some cases that are just so severe that treatment is not an option, therefore it is best to evaluate this with your vet in order to do what would be best for the dog.
Once a diagnosis of mange is determined, treatment will be advised. It is important to remember that you will need to be diligent with treatment upon diagnosis to keep the disease from spreading. Skin scrapings will need to be tested until it is determined that mites are no longer found.
Remember that if your pet has generalized mange, it's best that you not breed it. Prevention can be simply maintaining a healthy diet for your dog. Regular grooming and good health may be all you need to keep your dog free of mange.

Dermatophilosis is a skin disease that animals can get no matter the age or gender, although the symptoms may vary. Usually contracted from farm animals like sheep, cows and horses, it is more prevalent in humid and warm climates. Typically, dogs with wet skin that have infestations like fleas and ticks have increased risk.
If you start to notice a yellow-crusted spot around your dog's body or head, he may suffer from Dermatophilosis. This condition is very common in cats and dogs but is treatable. Usually when you remove a crusty area, you will see a cluster of hairs underneath due to the impacted follicle.
Testing from the vet is necessary for a diagnosis. If the dog is scratching a lot and you notice pus from this area, it more than likely is Dermatophilosis. Proper diagnosis is needed to determine treatment.
Diagnosis it most important if your dog is exhibiting symptoms associated with Dermatophilosis. Take your dog to the vet so a sample can be taken and tested. If it is determined to be Dermatophilosis, the vet will prescribe medication for your dog.
The vet will recommend a topical medicated shampoo for the dog to be bathed in. Read the directions thoroughly before you begin. We also recommend that you wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
In order for medications to be effective, we must be consistent with administering them. If the Dermatophilosis is severe, the vet may prescribe an antibiotic to be taken orally. Penicillin is the norm but it could be amoxicillin or another type of antibiotic as well.
It is likely that the vet will schedule a follow-up appointment to check the dog's progress. Usually they will give about 2 or 3 weeks for the medication to take affect. Continue to watch your dog during this time to make sure that the condition does not worsen.
It is not impossible for a family member or caregiver to contract Dermatophilosis from the infected dog. If you are living with a person with a low immune system, you might want to quarantine your dog until its condition clears. If you just want to be on the safe side, it would be best to keep the dog away from the rest of the family for a time.
There are precautions you should take when dealing with topical medications. We suggest that you wear rubber gloves while shampooing your dog to protect you against the transfer of this condition. Following the logical steps will keep you and your family safe.

Making the decision to have a dog or cat is a big step. As pet owners, most of us treat our pets like our children. If we don't have children, then for most of us, our pets are our children.
I have known many people over the years that have had pets prior to kids as a trial run before children. When you think about it, pets can require a much longer commitment just because they don't grow up and move out. This sheds a whole new light on getting a pet right?
I don't think people think about how long of a commitment it is to raise a cat or dog. Some can live 20+ years. That's sometimes longer than our children stay with us and you are feeding your pet, taking them to the doctor and boarding them when you take a vacation.
At least with children, there comes a time when they can stay on their own. Then they move away and go to college, eventually marrying and finally starting their own life with someone else. Well, I know that children do come and go and are always going to need us to some extent, but cat's and dog's can't survive without us.
Loving your pets is what we do unconditionally. But had we realized that we were actually taking on a longer commitment then our children per say, this might have made us rethink that decision. Our pet can bring us great joy and companionship, but they are always there.
Don't' get me wrong; I would not trade either my cats or dog for anything. But when my daughter wanted the cats, little did I know that she would be gone before they were. Now, here I am, my daughter's off and enjoying her life of carefree comings and goings and I have to hire a pet sitter.
I never realized it until now. It's funny to me remembering when my daughter was becoming increasingly independent and getting ready to venture out on her own. I felt sadness that she would be leaving soon, but now realizing I have the cats to keep me company is a blessing.
All our pets desire is food, affection and a warm lap to sit in. Love your pets like you've loved your children and they will be there for you when the kids have come and gone. They are all gifts and we can't keep them forever, but we are lucky enough to have them for a time and that is the true gift.
Now this should make you think long and hard about your decision to get a pet. As long as you realize that getting a pet is just like a child, a lifetime commitment, then you can make the responsible choice for you and your family. Just remember that the pets can last longer then your kids, but the kids will always come home.

Is your new puppy or adult adopted dog having a problem with uncontrollable peeing during play, while excited or when it's scared? Well, this is not uncommon in puppies or adult dogs that have been abused. Submissive or excited peeing is easy to cure but you have to be consistent.
After first taking your dog to the vet for a checkup to make sure there are not medical problems; then we know that your dog suffers from submissive/excitement issues. This is very common in puppies and very submissive adult dogs so don't worry, it can be fixed. You will be surprised at how fast we can correct this behavior.
Being dominant over your dog or looking into its eyes without any peeing we can determine that your dog's issue is with excitement. However, if you are noticing that the peeing is occurring when you are scolding the dog or it's in a dominated situation then it is safe to say your dog suffers from a submissive issue. Many dogs have these problems but they are easily dealt with.
As with children, dogs work well with praise. Teach your dog a couple of tricks like sitting, stay or roll over and then reward him for his success. With a submissive dog, approach at their level, pet under the chin not on the head and naturally, no yelling.
If there are accidents with the peeing, don't respond, just clean it up. But remember to praise the dog when they pee in their appropriate spot. Rewards and positive affirmation are always the best medicine.
Having a puppy that pee's from excitement during their first year is not uncommon. Adult dogs will get excited too when you arrive home from work or have guests, but just don't react to the accident. Keep a calm tone, clean the mess and remember to make a big deal when they do go in the right place.
While playing with your puppy, he can get excited and pee so make sure you do all the playing out in the yard or in a protected area. As we mentioned before, if there are accidents, do not react and eventually you will see this problem subside. We can't use the word praise enough so remember to make sure you acknowledge the good deed.
High energy greetings upon arrival home can also set off the excitement peeing. If you arrive home and the dog is excited and jumping around, we suggest you ignore him until he calms down. Keeping the excitement to a minimum can help correct the peeing problem.
Most dogs greet you at the door with an overwhelming excitement. Do not encourage this behavior, instead ignore the dog and only greet him when he is calm. Therefore you are sending him positive affirmation that calm is better than excited, eliminating the excitement peeing.

Many new dog owners are totally unaware of the needs of their pet. They feel like they need to feed them, let them out in the yard and give them a little love and that's all. Well, there is a lot more to it then that.
New dog owners many times have one main complaint. Their new puppy is keeping them awake at night. Their solution is to put the puppy in the bed with them and off to sleep they go. First big mistake made as a new dog owner.
As we try and eliminate the problem of loosing our bed to the new dog, we are faced with another issue. The dog is not sleeping at night and spends it's time roaming around whining, barking and keeping everyone awake. Everyone is crabby and the house is up in roars.
Sometimes these dogs that bark continuously when they are not with you are suffering from separation anxiety. One easy solution is to put the dog's bed in the room with you or a family member. Moving the dog's bed or crate into a room where he is sleeping with a family member should fix the problem.
Sleeping problems can be eliminated if you will crate your dog. Training them from the beginning that the crate is a safe place for them to go at bed time is a good thing. I know you feel bad doing this but remember is a good place for the dog and can help with the sleeplessness.
If you have a dog that you just can't cure of the separation anxiety issues, some vets suggest getting the dog a friend. Getting another dog can give the anxious dog a companion and tends to help relieve the separation issues. They will play during the day while you are at work and tire themselves out.
Exercise is a key part of a dog's day and should not be avoided even if they have a yard to run in. Walking the dogs for about 30 minutes and give them some socialization which they enjoy, just as we do. Hyper dogs really do need to be worn out and playing with them in the park is a good way to do this.
Many people feel that since they have a nice big yard for the dog to run around, that they are getting their exercise. Actually the opposite happens. As you are working during the day, it's more likely that your dog is laying in the sun or shade sleeping all day.
Younger more active dogs are in definite need of exercising. As dogs get older, they will slow down but you still need to take them out for walks and socialization. Being a responsible pet owner will provide your dog with a happy and healthy life and afford you a good night's sleep!

As many of us probably already know from experience, there is a common bone and arthritic condition that larger and giant dogs are prone to. This condition can present itself early in a pup's life, especially between the ages of 4 to 10 months. This abnormal growth of bone, cells or tissue can be managed but it requires a vet's intervention.
This Dysplasia is most always found in the giant and large breed dogs. Usually Chows, Retrievers like Labradors and Goldens, as well as Rottweilers. There is a similar condition more prominent in males then females.
Males and females as we said can both be afflicted with Dysplasia. More common though in males more then female is the condition where the bone fragment is found in the inner surface of the upper ulna. This condition will be found in the foreleg just below the elbow joint.
If your dog is showing signs of forelimb lameness after exercising which in turn causes stiffness, they might suffer from Dysplasia. They can also show signs by extending or flexing their elbow away from their body. However, not all dogs will show signs or symptoms for Dysplasia.
Whatever the reason for this condition, we suggest that you seek out a professional for their opinion. This condition can be genetic, caused by nutrition or during development. That's why we suggest you carefully observe your pup to see if it begins to display signs of Dysplasia.
The symptoms can mean a number of things like joint trauma, possible infection or even some sort of arthritis. The Doctor will take x-rays of the affected limb as well as the other and run more tests before coming to a conclusion. If it is determined to be Elbow Dysplasia, then surgery might be recommended.
After the surgery, you should apply ice compresses throughout the day to help with swelling and additional medications might be prescribed. You should keep your dog contained to minimize any movement for the first couple of days. Give assistance with movement to the dog and encourage some movement.
For future reference, you can take preventative measures for this condition by not promoting rapid growth of your dog. Manage their weight gain as they grow and feed them accordingly. In addition, do not breed a dog that has been diagnosed with this condition since it is genetic.
Large dogs are prone to this condition so it's not anything to be overly worried about. However, if you purchased your dog from a breeder, better to let them know about the condition. Dogs with Dysplasia can live long happy lives; just remember to keep up with their yearly checkups.

Taking care of our pets to the best of our ability is the responsibility of any pet owner. However, sometimes we are not always certain what is best for our pets. One thing we do know that is very important is our pet's diet.
Dog, like humans have needs where their diet is concerned. But also like humans, some might need more or less of certain things so it's always best to check with your vet once you decide on a certain diet. With dogs having a major part in our family's lives, we need to make sure we provide the proper nutritional needs.
Something that we don't think about is that dog food for dogs have certain requirements. Being the carnivores that they are, we forget that they also need vegetables and grasses as part of their diet. Get familiar with what your dog's dietary needs are to make sure that they are being fed a healthy diet.
Back in the times when dogs were responsible for their own nourishment, their diets were different than from today. They hunted live prey and ate it uncooked coupled with a little grass and whatever the fruits and berries of the season were. Today, can you even conceive of your dog eating fresh game?
Today it is not near as socially acceptable for dogs to eat their kills. I know that it's hard for us domesticated humans to understand but dogs and cat as like most animals are born hunters. We have, over the centuries, trained them to rely on us for their nourishment.
Another thing to consider when choosing a dogs diet is the breed of your dog. In addition to breed, the function of the dog in regards to working can influence the nourishment your dog needs. Lap dogs have a different dietary need than a working farm dog or a dog breed that is from the North Pole.
There are commercial brand foods that are good for dog but be sure you buy the premium top brands. These brands are tested on dogs and they are monitored throughout various stages of their lifetime. The important thing is that they are manufactured with the right dietary needs for dogs.
Some of the downsides to commercial processed foods are that they do contain preservatives that will break down some of the nutritional value of the food. Additives are usually added to meet certain nutritional requirements as well. If you are uncertain about the food, your vet will usually carry good premium brands so check with them.
Man's best friend, that's what our dogs are. Supplement their diet with a daily dose of meats and vegetables if they are on a dry food diet. Diet, exercise and love is all it takes for a long and healthy life and we owe that to them.

Today's modern way of life has opened doors for more animal lovers and pet enthusiasts to become responsible cat owners. However as they traverse the path of pet rearing, they are most likely to encounter several cat behavior problems. This is because despite of the cat's cuddly image and affectionate demeanor, they can also be temperamental and stubborn at times.
The occurrence of these cat behavior problems may be rooted to the personality of your pet. Contrary to the beliefs of many, each cat is different from the other. This means that there is no single way in dealing with these problems. Each case may have a different solution and the cure for one problem may solve or worsen another. Experts have found that cat behavior problems are most likely triggered by some things or events that your cat does not like. The following are some of the most common cat behavior problems and some tips to deal with them.
Aggression- This is the one of the most frequent cat behavior problems a cat owner will encounter. This is when the cat becomes too aggressive on other cats, animals or even people. They may display these aggressive tendencies by intimidating them. This happens when a cat gets really stressed out or gets frustrated over something. Sometimes this causes damages in home furniture and upholstery.
Fortunately, cat behavior problems such as this can be solved by giving your cat some proper training. You can train your cat on how to deal with aggression by diverting it to other things or activities. You can give your cat things to play with such as a ball or a yarn. You can also purchase a scratching post for it to get its claw on. This method will surely relieve your cat's stress levels and will contribute in dispersing excess energy and tension.
Cat behavior problems having to do with shyness need only be addressed by breaking your cat into the social circuit a little at a time. You may do this by playing with your cat by yourself first, and then progressing into letting your cat play with other relatives or friends one by one until he or she gets used to it.
Potty Training Perhaps the most challenging cat behavior problems you may encounter involves putting the litter in the litter box. In some cases, cats can be observed to be littering just about anywhere. And of course nobody enjoys the strong smell that emanates from cat dung. But if you look closely, the cats usually litter on the same spot or area. This means that this bad habit, like any other cat behavior problems is treatable. Sometimes this is caused by the cat owner not situating a proper and comfortable litter area.
However, like all cat behavior problems this one is also treatable. Just situate a comfy litter area and lead your cat into it whenever it litters. You can also use the trusty reward system and give it a treat whenever it uses the litter box. This method will help your cat develop better potty habits.

Whether your cat likes to spend its times indoors or outdoors, there might come a time when you need to take your cat outdoors and this is where you need to train your cat to walk on a leash. You might have seen dogs taken out on a leash, you even might have seen ponies on leash, but have you ever seen a cat on a leash? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. Here are some practical tips for leash training your cat.
Before deciding whether you want your cat to be leash trained, you need to determine whether it's even necessary. Does your cat love the outdoors or is it a cat who likes to stay indoors all the time? If all their needs are satisfied within the house, they will seldom leave the house. Considering their feline nature, they have certain hunting instincts in them. These instincts can be satisfied by placing a protected birdfeed or birdbath within view (not reach) of the cat. Also try to place some green grass within their reach, so whenever they need to eat it, it should be freely available to them. If all this doesn't seem to satisfy your cat, however, leash training might be your best option.
When it comes to cat leash training, it's helpful if your cat is already accustomed to wearing a collar. That way you'll avoid the extra steps involved in collar training and you won't need to start from scratch. If your cat does not have a collar, then probably you are going to have a tougher time to complete cat leash training, but it's still not impossible.
The first step is to acquaint your cat with the leash that you will be using. The best way to do so is to place the leash at a place where a cat spends most of its time. The bed or feeding bowl is a good place. Put on the leash or harness just before the cat is ready to take its meal. Make sure that the leash or harness leaves a space of two fingers when placed and does not make the cat uncomfortable. If the cat is comfortable with the leash consider yourself lucky as cats generally do not like foreign objects placed on them.
If the cat shows a little bit of uneasiness, distract him by offering his favorite toy or food. Repeat this for several days till the cat gets accustomed to the leash. Once it is comfortable, just keep the leash on for few minutes everyday.
The next step is to walk your cat with the leash on within the house. Praise him if he takes it easily and give him some motivation by offering food or a toy. If the cat is not responding favorably, repeat the above mentioned steps till he gets completely comfortable with the idea of a leash.
Cats are very independent animals and like to stay that way. It is often said that humans do not make cats their pets; it is the other way round. Cats use humans so that they can get food and shelter. For this they have adapted themselves in such a way that we feel affectionate towards them and take them as pets. You need to use these attributes in order to coax your cat to walk on a leash.

When you own a cat, perhaps cat diabetes never entered your mind when your brought your kitten home. Now that you have your cat, you want to do everything possible to provide good cat care that will give your pet a long and happy life. While it's unfortunate that diabetes strikes some cats, it is important for pet owners to be aware of the symptoms and learn what to do if it affects you cat.
There are two primary types of diabetes. The similarities between human and cat diabetes make it easy to diagnose, and fortunately there are treatments. Type 1 Diabetes is a result of insufficient insulin production. Type 2 Diabetes is a result of the body not processing the insulin in the body efficiently. A secondary type of cat diabetes that is seen occasionally is triggered by drugs that may have impaired the body's ability to naturally process insulin. Cat diabetes strikes cats of all ages, but most frequently it is seen in older cats.
Owners often discover their cat has diabetes through routine cat care. Your cat may exhibit unusual thirst and urination, lose weight unexplainably, have vomit, weakness, a decrease in appetite and a change in skin/coat.
When a pet cat displays the symptoms of diabetes, it might be wise for pet owners to have their cats tested for sugar levels in the blood as well as in their urine. The reason why both tests might be required is that cats under stress may experience a temporary spike of their blood sugar levels. The two tests will help confirm if your pet cat really has diabetes.
There is not a cure for cat diabetes right now, but through good cat care them symptoms can be controlled. Through diet and careful weight management, you cat can still live a happy life. Your vet may recommend a diet high in fiber, and containing complex carbs. Weight management is most important for extremely obese cats. Diet will not only help with weight, but will also normalize sugar levels.
Pet owners of diabetic cats may also need to carefully monitor their pet's glucose and insulin levels. For those pet owners who resort to giving their diabetic cats insulin injections for their diabetes, care to avoid overdose should always be maintained. An overdose of insulin can be a very fatal condition in cats. There are also some dietary supplements that can be used to help diabetic cats deal with their condition.
Even if you have a diabetic cat, you can still use good cat care practices to give your pet a long and happy life. Your cat can live for many years with proper treatment. You cat will provide you with love and companionship for many year. He deserves the best from you as his owner.

People might be surprised at just how much fur one cat can actually shed. Long-haired breeds produce a lot of fur, but even short-haired cats can shed astonishing volumes of the stuff. Is there anything you can do to keep the situation under control?
A lot of basic grooming is taken care of by the cat itself, as it licks the fur to keep it shiny and clean and lying straight. But some cats could use help, even with that. If they shed a lot, the constant grooming can result in hairballs as they swallow massive amounts of fur. And sometimes they can't groom well enough to undo tangles, which lead to uncomfortable mats that just keep growing.
It's also important that you do your part to keeping your cat well groomed. Regular brushing or combing with the right cat grooming tools will not only stimulate the cat's skin, promoting circulation and good fur growth, but it will loosen fur that's ready to shed. You can gather handfuls that might otherwise go into kitty's tummy. And while some cats aren't thrilled about being brushed, others love it so much that they lie down and stretch in ecstasy.
But even with regular combing, sometimes you will see that mats will form. These can build up in regions where the cat can't easily groom: the bottom of the tail, the inside of the rear legs, and so forth. Mats can also arise in spots where the cat lies down, for instance, down their left side if they most often lie down on that area.
Some of these mats, being made of dead, loose fur, come loose fairly easily if worked at with a brush or even the fingers. Be careful, though, not to pull at them too hard, in case you really hurt the skin. But other mats get too large or well anchored to come off without a lot of work. And some simply have to be cut out.
Sometimes, to be safe, it's best simply to visit the vet, and let him or her do the cutting in a secure way. And once that's done, you can pay special attention to keeping that area brushed, so the mats don't form again. Or you can get rid of them sooner, before they get so big.
The key thing is that the cat's coat is kept in good condition. By combing and keeping it free of tangles, you can help diminish hairballs, accelerate healthy growth, and provide your kitty a gorgeous coat it can be happy about.
When it comes to keeping your pet happy and healthy there is nothing more important than proper grooming. Whether you take your pet to a professional groomer, do the job yourself, or call up a mobile pet grooming service, you are demonstrating your love and affection for your pet. Learn more about how to care for your pet at the Pets Grooming site.

Pets make our lives special and more complete. They're not just animals, they are family members who need just as much love as anyone else. This love extends to more than just treats and healthy food. It also includes keeping those pets healthy no matter what the cost. To make sure that cost isn't too high, many pet owners are now buying the best pet insurance they can find. To help you choose the coverage that fits with your needs and your budget, I've put together an easy to follow process.
Finding out what your options are is always a good place to start when choosing any type of insurance. If you're not familiar at all with what is covered and what isn't covered, it's best to start by asking your friends, family, and your veterinarian what pet insurance company they know of or use. When you have a list of companies to start with, you can start compiling your own list of what you need in an insurance policy.
Have you ever purchased insurance for you and your family? If so, you'll be happy to know that the process is very similar which means you won't have to completely start from scratch. You probably even know that the real work begins when you start getting quotes. You'll want to get as many of these as possible so you can make a comparison of the coverages and prices available. Avoid the beginner mistake of going only with the lowest quote though.
Beware companies who are relatively new to the market when choosing pet insurance. Many times these companies will pop up and give you amazing quotes with promises of the best coverage around. Avoid this hype and look at experience instead. If your potential insurance provider hasn't even provided enough coverage for the lifetime of one pet, you'll want to steer clear of working with them.
One of the most essential parts of choosing pet insurance is reading the fine print. You never know what might be excluded from the coverage and it's your responsibility to find it out. In fact, it's always best to ask your potential insurance company what is excluded rather than what's included. This will help you from getting distracted by fancy offerings but neglecting important ones that could end up costing you thousands of dollars.
You'll save yourself a lot of frustration if you ask the different insurance companies what their claims process is like. When your pet is sick, the last thing you want to worry about is having to make hours worth of calls that lead nowhere. A streamlined claims process will have you getting a reimbursement in a timely fashion without loads of frustration.
To take the first step in finding the right pet insurance plan, I invite you to get a FREE, instant, no obligation quote today by visiting http://www.BestPetInsuranceQuote.info immediately to secure the best deal. You'll wish you had pet insurance ... There may come a time when you have to seriously, and urgently, consider the cost of veterinary treatment. This situation happened to me a couple of years ago when I was looking at spending four thousand dollars to save my dog. Although he is a part of my family, I did wonder at the time (I feel ashamed now), if the cost was worth it. Medical science cannot cure everything and pets are vulnerable too. However, no matter the outcome, you will still have to pay for the cost of treatment.
Keeping your pet healthy is a large financial responsibility, and these additional costs can place a person in debt. If your credit card is at its limit then often a bank loan is the only answer.
The financial aspect of looking after a pet is something that must be considered carefully. When money problems occur, temporary or otherwise, this causes further worries. If your credit card is at its limit then often a bank loan or a loan from friends or family may be the only answer.
Pet insurance is not high on most American's agenda despite tens of millions of pet owners; the reason for this remains a mystery. Generally speaking, health insurance is not something that people neglect; should we be forgiven for not caring enough about our pets then?
Although there are a large number of pet owners in the States, most do not see a reason to have pet insurance; the reason for this remains a mystery. The average American will have health insurance; so we should do the same for our pets.
So other than rising costs, what are the main reasons you should consider cover for your pets. Anyone who owns a domestic animal needs to be prepared for health problems occasionally; when this happens, the cost of treatment may even cause financial strain.
The last thing you should have to deal with is the stress over the expense of saving your animal.
Various pet health insurance options are available; perhaps to incorporate more than one pet on the same plan. Pet owners providing a health plan for their pets is not the luxury you may think it is. Perhaps the information supplied here has made things are a little clearer now and you won't delay further. Your pet's life (and your finances) may depend upon it!

Want to know how to get rid of cat urine smell? Cat urine is a very unpleasant smell and removing it from your carpet and furniture can be a really daunting task. Keep in mind that cats like to go to the same spot most especially when they can smell their urine. That's why it's a good idea to get all the cat urine removed so that they will stop urinating in that spot.
3 Steps to Get Rid of Cat Urine Smell
You will need some paper towels and apply some pressure to the affected area until it is dried up. Don't be afraid to use more paper towels if necessary so the area will be totally dried up. After the urine is out then you can check if there's anything that's been left over and clean that out as well.
Next, you want to get your spray bottle and add a solution of water and white vinegar. This mixture will help to eliminate the horrible smell of the urine that can still be present in the carpet. It's very easy to remove but you have to put in an extra effort in cleaning after spraying to make sure it is dry enough. Just like I said above, this will prevent your cat from urinating in the same spot.
Scatter a crystalline powder like DeScent in the carpet after drying it up. This will help you to eliminate cat urine odor that are still on the affected area of the carpet. Important thing to keep in mind is that you must make sure that your cat can never again smell their urine so they will stop urinating in the same spot again and again. If you have a male cat then they are more likely to mark their territories.
Remember these steps and you will be on your way to getting rid of that nasty cat urine smell. Quickly clean the affected area so your cat won't have to pee in your carpet again. If you delay in cleaning your carpet then your cat is going to urinate again and this will only make things harder for you.

Don't Let Them Put Their Head Out The Window: Even though it looks harmless, it just isn't safe to let your pet stick their head out the window while you are driving. This leaves your pet vulnerable to anything that might be flying along in the road, debris, bugs, even things from the cars in front of you. You should also never put your pet in the back of a pickup truck. It is so dangerous (especially on long trips) that the majority of states actually have laws against this type of animal transport!
Stop Frequently: You should take frequent stops to let your pet walk around for a few minutes and use the bathroom. Most rest stops and travel assistance areas will have specific areas for you to take your pet. Always pickup after your pet and try to stay in the designated "pet zone" when walking your pet. Always keep your pet on a lease and make sure that they have proper identification on their collar whenever they are outside of the car.
Give Them Plenty Of Water: At each rest stop make sure to have some water available for your pet to drink from. Sometimes car travel will upset your pets stomach and this will give it something to help prevent sickness. Something that a lot of people recommend is to take ice cubes on road-trips as they're a fun way for your pet to get their needed re-hydration and it doesn't take up as much room as bringing lots of water will.
No Feeding Your Pets Fast Food: It's a safe bet to refrain from feeding your pets anything extra on long road trips. Just stick to their regular amount of food at their regular feeding time. Try to refrain from letting them eat any leftovers from your own meals, especially if they're from a fast-food restaurant. Greasy food and pets aren't a good mix.
No Leaving Your Pet Alone In The Car: Don't ever leave your car with your pets still inside. On your typical warm days, the temperature in your car could rise up to 120 degrees in minutes, even if you have the windows open for them.
Keep Them Restrained: Make sure that your pet is safely restrained while in your car. Using a pet safety-harness or travel kennel are the easiest ways to keep your pet safe. These will not only protect your pet from harm, but they also help by keeping them from distracting you while you are driving. A pet safety harness acts the same way as a regular seatbelt does. While your typical pet will not find any problems adjusting to it, you may want to let them test it out by wearing the harness by itself a few times before using it in the car. If your dog prefers a travel kennel, make sure that the kennel is well ventilated and stabilized. Many pet owners prefer vehicle barriers, particularly for larger pets. Vehicle barriers are best suited for SUVs or other cars with large connected storage areas. No matter what method you choose, back seat travel is always safer for your pet than in the passenger seat.
Comfortable and Secure: The number one thing to focus on should be your pets comfort. If your pet is comfortable then the ride will go smoothly. Their comfort is as important as your own. Imagine having to drive on a long-trip sitting in a seat that hurts or is uncomfortable. It'd make for a pretty un-fun trip! Same goes for your pet. An easy trick to put your pet at ease is to bring along their favorite toy or blanket.

Many folks who have been owned by cat would chuckle uncontrollably at the thought of putting a leash on it, just like a dog, and taking it for a walk around the neighborhood. Cats have their own opinion about things, and the idea of tying your cat to a piece of string and making her follow you may be one that is hard to believe.
Even considering the nature of the cat, many cat owners are happily walking their very happy cats on a harness, walking jacket or leash. It may sound impossible, but it can be done with some patience, (OK, maybe a LOT of patience) and your cat can get a whole new life, safely enjoying the outdoors and getting much needed exercise at the same time.
Teaching a cat to wear a leash is not an easy task. Your cat has to have the right personality for something like this, and as an owner you need to have an immense amount of patience.
The first few times you take your cat outside on a leash will probably result in a freaked out cat, especially if your cat has always been an indoor cat and has never really ventured outside.
All the new sights, sounds, and smells are bound to be quite overwhelming to your cat, and this is where your immense patience has to come in.
Don't buy a leash that is designed for a small dog, but instead look into purchasing a leash or lead that is specifically designed with a cat in mind. These leads wrap around your cat, giving you control of the cat and keeping the cat from choking itself in a frantic attempt to get away.
You might want to practice on the lead at home a few times, although most cats will not like this at all. Don't let this deter you from trying it outside, because for some cats the fact that they are outside is enough to make them tolerate the leash or lead. The cat might get so wrapped up in exploring the great outdoors that it doesn't really notice the lead very much anymore, and this is the ideal situation.
If, after you have been taking very slowly, and your cat still, after you have progressed to actually going outside, still is scared after a few tries, then maybe this is not for your kitty.
Trying for some time in baby steps is the way to be successful, but there are cats who just won't have any part of this. Be observant. If your cat gets a little more comfortable each and every time, then continue taking her out. Short trips with lots of praise and treats.
You may be surprised that before long your cat will absolutely adore her outside adventures ans will get all excited any time you go anywhere near her leash... just like a ,,, er,,,dog

There is a condition prone to puppies called malocclusion, which means that their bit does not fit right. This misalignment of the teeth is common and usually does not affect the dog's ability to eat. However, as the dog grows older, the condition can get worse or could correct itself.
By the time a puppy is about 6 months old he should have about 28 teeth. Those teeth are sharp and pointy so make sure your small children are careful while playing with a puppy. By the time the puppy reaches adulthood, he should have 42 teeth.
This condition has minimal risks to your dog but can cause some discomfort and infection if it is a severe case. Usually malocclusion affects the dog's ability to chew or pick up the food. Causes of this disorder are mouth injuries and wear on the teeth.
We have all heard of an overbite, underbite. You will notice this mostly when your dogs closes his mouth and his teeth do not meet which creates a gap. However, the scissor bite malocclusion is one that you will not see in the flat faced dog family.
A common malocclusion in most dogs is the scissor bite. However, the Shih Tsuz, Lhasa Apsos and the Boxer breed are born without the scissor bite. Therefore, when looking for a dog like this, you definitely want to make sure they do not have the scissor bite.
It is not uncommon for puppies to be born with gaps in their teeth. These gaps will usually correct themselves as the puppy gets older and his adult teeth come in. If the problem does not correct by around the 10-month mark, it likely will not correct itself.
Your dog's overbite may worsen as the permanent teeth come in because they are larger and can damage the soft parts of the mouth. Teeth extractions are sometimes necessary. Just check with your vet if you are concerned or notice that the dog is not eating.
Depending on the severity, you might just want to consult your vet for their opinion. I have heard of situation where puppies have been fitted with braces, but I do not think I am ready for that. What will they think of next; contact lenses?
I do feel we owe it to our pets to make their life comfortable. Be consistent with their checkups and vaccinations to extend the life of your dog. After all, they are your family too.

Who would think that your job as a dog owner would involve brushing your dog's teeth? Well, dog's can have bad breath just as people do. When you brush your dog's teeth, then you can enjoy those little doggy kisses with fresh breath, not doggy breath.
Keeping your dog free of plaque and tartar buildup is very important. Also, it helps with the small of your dog's breath, which is good for us as the receiver of those sloppy kisses. Brushing weekly can work wonders on your pretty canine's smile so brush away.
One thing you might be thinking is "how am I supposed to brush my dog's teeth?" Well, since you can't teach your dog to rinse and spit, you use a special doggie toothpaste. Also, you can purchase a finger toothbrush in the dog pet supplies section of your local pet store.
Exercising our dogs usually involves playing with a Frisbee or tossing a ball or sticks. Well, these things can break your dog's teeth. It's a good idea to check your dog on a regular basis for broken or chipped teeth so you can eliminate infections which can result in large vet bills. Keeping our dogs healthy will extend the life of our beloved friends.
Catching a dog's teeth problems early can eliminate having to have the tooth pulled. Infection can lead to other medical problems for your dog so make sure that all infections are addressed early. Your dog can't tell you when he's sick or injured so be proactive with your pet's health.
Broken teeth can cause infections in the mouth that can also lead to bad breath. Remember that when you are brushing your dog's teeth, that you check regularly for anything that doesn't look right. Act immediately to make sure that the infection gets under control quickly.
Make sure when you are playing with your dog, you are using appropriate doggy toys. Teeth can get broken when you are using things that are not dog friendly for your dog to catch or retrieve. Always make sure that the item you are throwing for your dog to catch is size appropriate for your dog.
Check out the dog pet supplies section at your local pet store or ask your vet which are the best toys to get for your dog. There are many soft toys that are easy on the teeth that your dog will love. As many dog owners can tell you, for a dog, it's all about destruction.
As your puppies grow and their adult teeth start coming in, they will become big chewers. Rawhide bones are great for this time in a puppies' life. Changing out the toys as they start to get torn up is safe and will eliminate the risk of choking for your puppy.

When your dog is experiencing minimal or extensive hair loss, it's best to have him checked for alopecia. This disorder is also known as hair loss and is common in dogs. Left untreated it can cause total hair loss and infection so early diagnosis and treatment is necessary.
Delaying treatment can affect the dog's lymphatic system or their immune system. Alopecia can affect dogs and cats alike. No matter age, breed or gender and it can be gradual so if you notice something out of the ordinary, get your pet to the vet.
Excessive chewing and symmetrical patches of hair loss are early signs of this condition. The areas can get infected quickly so you need to be diligent in seeking treatment for you dog. Early detection can keep this disorder from spreading.
One of the most common causes of hair loss or alopecia is mange. We have all heard of mange which is caused by the mite Demodex. Regular bathing of your dog and thorough checking can help control this nasty disorder.
Alopecia can show itself in many ways and for many reasons. A number of missing patches can be the result of an inflamed hair follicle. Extensive hair loss can be a more serious issue and you might need to have the dog tested. Unfortunately there is not a lot that can be done to prevent this.
Several remedies might be involved in treating your dog's condition. Everything from medical shampoos to topical creams and they must be maintained in order to control the problem. Some additional testing might be required such as checking your dog's hormonal levels to see if there are underlying problems.
Dogs are also prone to ringworms, which cause patchy hair loss and reddening of the skin with chaffing. If you suspect that your dog has ringworms, get him to the vet for treatment. Additionally, ringworms are extremely contagious so wash your hands after touching your dog's affected area.

Unless we put the Persian cats into particular category it will be impossible to recognize them as in recent times they are coming with a mixture of different color coats.
Hence to achieve this eases these families that the Persian cat has been assigned to, are basically governed by the color of their coats. For instance the Golden Shadowed, Silver Shadowed, Cameo Shaded, and then there are the Red Persian cats.
The majority of the Persian cats are white with usually layers of different colors on just the tips of the coat which is technically known as ticking. But as there is a lot of mixed breeding the coats of the cats can develop into totally different colors like blue-cream.
Again unlike the albino white cats which are difficult to come across you will see a color that has evolved in Persian cats is red which is quite similar to that of ordinary red cats. The red color has various shades to it and it is not at all pure red that you may visualize, rather it is orange or ginger which also may vary. As a result the cats can have a ticking of white or brown or could be completely red. Most Persian cats of red variety are red all over.
The lips and chin of the cat are the same color as that of the coat. Its paw pads and nose leather is a brick red color and unlike Silver Shaded and Chinchilla Persian cats whose eye color is either green or blue-green, the Red Persians eye color is of a bright copper color. But it does, like the other Persian cats, have the blackened rimmed eyes that give off an impression as if the cat is wearing eye makeup.
Most of the times the red color does not occur in isolation and is accompanied by patches of cream, white and cameo. The range of colors that occur on a Persian cat could be realized when you see a Smoked Tortoiseshell Persian which has a white under coat with prominent black tip intermingled with red and cream ticking too which gives an impression of a tortoiseshell.
The extent of color patterns that you can find in this breed of Persian cat is incredible and there are cats of this variety with blazing red or cream tips on the face which many people find attractive.
You will find that most of the breeds of Persian cats like Shaded, Golden Shaded or Chinchilla have eyes shaded green or blue green. Only the Tortoiseshell Persian cat and the Red colored cat families have eyes that are of shining copper colored.
The only difference that you will find in Red Persian cats is that they have fluffier and longer mane but as far as other physical characteristics are concerned like punched face, short and bulky legs, solid body, dark rimmed eyes are similar to the other Persian breeds. The chin and lips have similar shade as its coat.

You should definitely consider using holistic cat food for your cat. Holistic cat food is food that has no artificial ingredients in it.
One of the reasons cats live such a short time is because most cat food produces don't make nutritious food.
The natural life span of cats is actually twenty five to thirty years but the average cat only lives to be seven to ten years old. The nutritional value of most commercial food for felines is equivalent to Twinkies.
Just imagine what would happen to you if you ate nothing but junk food for the next nine years.
When you have food that is free of everything that is not found naturally then you have holistic food. The problem with cat food being holistic is that you never know what is actually in it. The cat food company's only have to claim the ingredients that are put into the food after it reaches their plant.
Basically, the law states that if the meat gets preservatives put into it at a processing plant before it reaches the cat food manufacturers then they can turn around and claim that it is preservative free.
What they consider meat for cat food is another problem. Animals put down at the pound, parts of cows not usable for us, and road kill are all used for the meat and meat byproducts.
When an animal is euthanized at the pound they use poison. Unfortunately for your cat the poison does not cook out when they process the meat. You might unknowingly be poisoning your cat when you feed him.
But what are your options?
Well if you want your four legged family member to live a long and healthy life you might want to consider using a combination of homemade food and safe commercial food. With homemade food you don't have to wonder what's in it because you put it their.
Giving your cat homemade cat food is a great way to make sure your cat is living his life to the fullest. Don't forget about your puppy either. Make sure he is getting homemade puppy food! Animal Communication can help pet owners in a number of ways. It will help you to understand and pick up vital information regarding your animals' health and happiness. Having the ability to feel an animal form their perspective allows us to move from placing our own thoughts and judgements on our animals. Making animal communication a must have tool if you truly care for animals.
Often we can completely miss-judge situation regarding our animals' behaviour. It is very easy for us people to see a situation and then jump to our own negative conclusions. I am sure that you will agree that there is nothing more hurt full and unfair than someone making judgements about you that are not true!
For example the other day I saw how a dog had been labelled as a bully with other dogs. This strong judgement had been made because the owner had observed that when her dog was around younger or gentle dogs, she would look very friendly but when she got close would snap at them and show aggressive signs.
Yet her dogs behaviour with nervous or protective dogs was very different. She would not go anywhere near them.
Using animal communication it became very clear that her dog was desperate to be sociable with other dogs. The reason for the aggression was that she was afraid of the intimacy. Now it became clear why she was approaching the younger and gentle dogs. She was also very sensitive to other dogs feelings and this is why she did not want anything to do with nervous or protective dogs.
Her wanting to be close to dogs changed as soon as she got to close to them as an overwhelming feeling of shyness and protection took over her.
This new information was so different to what the owner thought was happening with her dogs social skills. That it allowed us to have a completely new approach, focused on helping her to overcome her shyness. Her dog was so keen to make friends that it made the process very effective when everyone was coming from the same perspective.
Understanding our animals from this feeling language gives us the power to really help them. If you are still in a place where you keep asking yourself why they are doing this or that. Then you have not found this connection and understanding that your animal is looking for!
Animal communication is very natural and does not take long to learn. With these skills you will be creating a trusting environment for both you and your animal, as you will understand each other more. It is the same for us humans, when we find someone who understands us we naturally listen to and trust them. Animal communication is the key to a deeper relationship.

Your pet seems happy and healthy. There are no obvious signs of injury or illness. There seems to be no reason to believe that your healthy pet is in jeopardy in any way. Wrong! Think again and carefully observe your pet.
Since the beginning of time, most animals have been programmed to do whatever it takes to live with pain without making it obvious. The reason is obvious - other animals looking for food might make them their next meal if they sense they are weak or injured (easy to catch and kill). Given this, even your pampered indoor puppy might be hurting and not inclined to show it. You have to keep a close eye on your pets.
Watch how your pet acts and behaves. There are numerous indicators that their health isn't what it should be. Since they are used to, and for the most part, quietly dealing with pain they will in fact make an effort to conceal or minimize the effects of any pain they feel.
Carefully observe your pet's physical characteristics. Are they losing weight for no obvious reason? Are they chewing their food more slowly, or eating less than usual? This could indicate problems with their teeth or gums. Patches of hair missing, or an obvious dulling of their coat, could be signs of internal problems. You should know how a happy, healthy pet looks and acts. Watch carefully for deviations from this norm.
As strange as it sounds to some pet owners, your pet needs to have their teeth checked routinely. They get cavities and gum diseases just like we do. Neglecting this can lead to infections and pain that becomes very difficult to treat once it advances to a certain point.
Your pet's good health will be, in part, a direct result of their diet and exercise habits. Animals who gain too much weight, just like people, are at increased risk for medical problems. You have to watch your pet to see what is happening. If they have become sluggish and reluctant to exercise or play, this could be because of arthritis or another joint disease. These conditions produce a lot of pain, and may cause your pet to become far less active and unhealthy.
Losing unnecessary pounds will help your overweight pet decrease pressure of sore joints and reduce pain. Many excellent reduced fat or low calorie pet foods are made to assist with this.
Your pet might not whimper, moan, or otherwise signal that they are in pain. Watch them and carefully observe their normal behavior. Then, when you see changes in their routine that are unexplained, you can assist your vet in figuring out what the problem might be. Anytime you see obvious changes in the way your pet behaves or goes about its daily routine, get in touch with a good animal doctor and have them examined as soon as you can. There are numerous reasons why many people consider the cat to be an ideal family pet. One of those reasons is simply that there is very little potty training involved. Get some cat litter and a litter box and you now have a pet you can keep inside with you all day.
Mother cats are great about teaching their kittens how to use a litter box. Your job is simply to make sure your cat knows where the box is located. Once he learns this, it is unlikely he'll do his business elsewhere. But that doesn't mean there aren't some decisions for you to make. And the first one is deciding what type of litter you want to use.
If this is your first cat you'll be a bit shocked when you see all the different types of litter now available. So how do you decide what's best for you and your pet?
If cost is a primary factor, clay litter is always a good bet. It's cheaper and was one of the first commercial litters available. But it does have some drawbacks. You will need to clean it and change it more frequently. Clay absorbs liquid, but it also absorbs odors, and nobody wants their house to smell like cat waste. And if by chance your kitten is prone to allergies, clay may cause some problems. Dust tends to fly up as your pet scratches around in his box.
Clumping cat litter has quickly become the most popular. The litter works with the moisture in the waste, clumping up as soon as your cat goes. This is good for you because you don't have to change out the entire box, you simply scoop out the clumps, then add more litter to replace what you just cleaned away. And although it won't remove the smell, clumping litter does come in several different scents to help hide the odor. The problem here is that some cats tend to eat the clumps. You'll have to watch your cat carefully to make sure this is not an issue.
Silica litters are some of the newest on the market. Silica has been used for years in the small packets you see in pill bottles or in your new pair of shoes. It's used because it is a great moisture absorber, and silica crystals in your cat litter work much the same way. They are mixed with sand and water to easily absorb any liquids in your cat's waste. You still have to scoop out the solid waste, and because it does not clump, it can be a bit messy. Another plus is that this litter is biodegradable, and simply returns to a sandy base when it decomposes.
Another biodegradable litter is paper litter, which is becoming very popular with environmental pet owners. This litter is made from pellets or recycled paper. In addition to being biodegradable, it is absorbent and is easy to carry around because it does not weigh very much.
Another litter that is generally biodegradable is made from wood. Pine is the preferred choice because of it's natural odor absorbency, but other woods are used as well. All softwood litters are absorbent with natural odor control capabilities. That means no chemicals need to be added, giving you a more natural product.
But once you decide on the type of litter you want, it's always wise to consult with your cat. They will surely let you know if they disagree with your choice by simply not using the litter box. Some cats for example don't like silica because the crystals hurt their paws. Others avoid pine because they just don't like the smell. Even though your cat can't speak, he will definitely let you know if he doesn't like what you have selected.
And while it is smart for you to know as much as possible about all the choices available to you, your cat will have the final word on whether or not you made the right decision.

Whether you are concerned that your cat may have gotten pregnant or you are thinking about breeding your cat, you will be amazed about the information you need to know to help your cat stay healthy.
While older cats get pregnant easier then younger cats, you will find that the cat pregnancy length, how long a cat is pregnant beginning with mating to actually having her litter, is fairly standered.
For the majority of the time, you will find that a cats pregnancy length is anywhere between 57 to 70 days. The average for most cats though is around 64 days which is about 9 weeks.
There are many signs to keep a look out for when you are trying to figure out if your cat is pregnant. The first and most likely sign you will notice is the absence of your cat going into heat. An unspayed female cat will generally have a cycle she will follow for going into heat and it will be from between ten to fourteen days.
If all of a sudden she is not going into heat any more then there is a great chance that she is pregnant. As for the first physical signs to look for, you will likely notice that her nipples are slightly tender looking, pinker in appearance, or a bit swollen.
You will notice that your cat will start to get hungrier as her body begins to need more resources to nourish her unborn kittens. Along those lines, you cat may start to vomit, however if this happens more then 3 or 4 times you might want to take her to the vet to get her checked out.
In the fifth week of pregnancy, around 35 days, your cats stomach will begin to get swollen from her kittens growing larger. From here, her stomach will continually get bigger until she has her litter.
It is in you and your cats best interest to take some time to learn about the changes to your cat during her pregnancy.
If you are wondering how to tell if your cat is pregnant then chances are good you have a pregnant cat on your hands and you will need to get information on how to care for her. One thing you should consider is giving your cat homemade cat food. Learn how to tell if your cat is pregnant and how to feed your cat homemade cat food. For those of us that are ignorant of the term teacup cats it seems like quite a odd phenomenon when someone mentions the term. You may have heard of miniature cats being sold but teacup cats have a slightly different meaning to them.
When we talk of normal cats they weigh between eleven to fourteen pounds in females and around seventeen pounds in males. Though tea cup cats are tiny cats too but features of a tea cup variety differs from a normal one.
On the contrary a teacup Persian cat starts weighing in at the meager three pound mark and stays below eight at the maximum. If you have these weight markings in mind then you will instantly be able to gauge whether the cat being offered in the market is an actual teacup Persian cat.
When you are looking for a tea cup cat you should be concious of the traits of a tea cup cat otherwise you may be fooled by some cat breeder of doubtful quality. Any seller who would want to cheat you will offer a cat which is less than ten pounds in weight as a tea cup cat but this cat is a Persian cat of common variety. Those Persian cats which weigh ten pounds or less do not necessarily become a tea cup Persian.
Tea cup cats make terrific pets as they are so cute and cuddly. Therefore many people like to bring them these charming cats home as they are great choice for a pet.
The tea cup cats can be very demanding as far as love and care is concerned due to their small size and frail nature. And the cat owners are more than ready to shower their attention on them.
One often wonders that where the tea cup variety comes from. essentially the cats are not commonly produced but is bred by a system called inbreeding. In this the breeders mate two types of cats from different breeds which are smallest in size. This process goes on for a couple of times till the right cat size of the cat and weight is acquired.
If you are familiar with Japanese Bonsai method you will realize how the trees size is reduced by the process of dwarfism. In the same way the cats size is reduced with the process of dwarfism. The dwarfism of Persian tea cup cats involves two methods.
One of these processes is known as achondroplasia. This is the process in which the leading gene grows while mutating. As a consequence it has an effect on the hormonal balance in the cats body. This balance then controls the bone growth resulting in smaller overall bone structures. Although there are many different breeds of teacup cats the Persian is by far the most popular teacup cat in the world.

Even if your cats food has not been recalled that does not necessarily mean that it is safe cat food. The majority of the cat food on the market today might not only be nutritionally void but it may even be dangerous to your cat.
Not only does some of the major brands of cat food contain no nutrition but they may even contain poison. Animals that are put down at the pound by using poison are on of the many meat sources that are found in cat food.
The problem with this is (other then the obvious that your cat is not a cannibal) is that the poison they use to put the animals down does not cook out when they cook the meat.
Anything that is on the dog or cat is also considered fair game to use as a meat source. This includes any metal id tags, flea collars, and even hair and teeth. Another meat source that is used is road kill that is to big to dispose of by digging a hole in the ground.
When processing meat for human consumption a big barrel is placed nearby. Anything that they cannot sell to humans goes into this barrel and it then goes on to be used in cat food. This could include cancerous tissue or even a puss filled cyst.
So that leaves us with dead, dying, or diseased animals for the meat source and the meat by products are even worse. It's no wonder that most cats don't even live half of their natural life expectancy.
The more research I did on cat food the more shocked I became. I did not even want to touch my cats food let alone feed it to him.
There are some safe, nutritious foods out there for cats. To give your cat optimal health and a long life expectancy it is recommended to feed your cat a combination of safe cat food and healthy homemade food.

Keeping the hair washed and neat is one way to keep your cat looking good. You'll need to remember to comb and trim the hair on a regular basis in order to accomplish this. Grooming your cat also involves making sure that your cat's hair is not knotty or tangled. If your cat's hair is naturally long, give it a hair cut frequently with a professional pair of grooming scissors and grooming comb. Always move carefully to avoid puncturing or scratching sensitive skin on your cat.
To diminish shedding and make brushing smoother and gentler, use a grooming glove on your cat. Try to find a pair that can be laundered. You can also use it to get cat hair out of your upholstery and carpet.
