The most common cat health problems could have your cat in his or her death bed. As you know, when your feline friend has a problem, you need to get them to a vet as fast as you can. If you want to be considered a good pet owner, you should find the best vet that is recommended for the health problem your cat is having. There are many problems that you can run into when you have a cat and in this article, you will know more about the bad health problems your feline can have.

The first problem you need to handle when you get your cat is to get them their shots and spayed or neutered in order to stop some of the problems that will be talked about in this article. You will find that cats are very delicate animals and using the best products will ensure they get the healthy body they need. The foods you buy them will also play a role in helping them live a long healthy life.

For those cat owners that don't know what types of food to purchase, they will need to give their cats the right type of diet. This will reduce the number of health problems they can have later in their life. The other thing to make sure of is that they do not eat human food. Human food can increase their chances of getting parasites from food that have been in the trash or even food that have been out for a few hours.

The health of your cat will be your responsibility. This means that you will need to know about what problems they can get. Many diseases and parasites can infect your cat. So you must find the proper medications to keep him or her healthy.

What do I mean by medicine? I mean prevention for heartworms. Heartworms eat at the heart which can shorten the life of your cat. Heartworms can be fatal within several years. There are many products you can find that will help fight and protect against heartworms. They can help stop the worms from getting into the heart. The medicine that's right for your cat is the medicine that is recommended by a reliable veterinarian. The vet can give you the right ideas such as when to adminster the heartworm prevention and how much to give.

There are actually some foods that can result in heartworms. So if you want your cat to avoid heartworms, you need to make sure they eat the right foods. Prevention can also help here. Watch your feline outside and clean out the litter box each night. You should visit the vet on a regular basis.

Are hairballs a problem for your feline? If your cat has problems with hairballs, you may be able to help her by purchasing the correct foods. There are plenty of foods available in a pet store that can combat hairballs and reduce the amount of hairballs they have to put up with.

Tick and flea prevention should be set up for your feline when you get her. Your pet's health can be negatively affected by parasites such as fleas and ticks. Ticks can do harm to the body because they can cause many diseases. They can cause your pet to suffer through some detrimental health problems.

Having fleas is another pest problem for felines and can cause them to have bad health as well. The prevention of fleas will be a good idea if you have a cat because fleas can very well kill your feline if you don't get this problem treated. There isn't much you can do when your cat is young, but there is some powder you can use that helps cut down on them.

If fleas and ticks are a problem for your fluffy feline, then you must take your cat to a vet to see if all is well with their health after being exposed to them. Your feline needs a medication that can eliminate the fleas and ticks. You can speak to a vet to get this information. The vet will help you find a reputable brand that can assist your cat in eliminating this problem.

You will have a healthy feline if you are able avoid most cat health problems. But you have to know about the other health conditions that your feline can get. A condition that is common among many cats is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). You should be careful about the litter that you purchase because your cat can get a UTI if you use the wrong litter.

The chemicals in some types of litter can harm the urinary system which can result in a UTI. If you want to avoid problems with a UTI, you must find the type of litter that helps prevent UTIs. The litter that you purchase should be safe for your feline to use. The vet needs to see her in order to make sure she gets the right medications that can help her eliminate this problem. UTI occurs often with males and rarely with females. Your cat can die from a UTI if your cat does not get looked at by a vet.

Another bad health problem that cats can get is feline leukemia. This is the most common cause of cancer and may harm your cat's immune system. It can cause the death of your furball at home. That's why it's important to get your cat the proper vaccines to prevent this problem. The problem with feline leukemia is to make sure that there are no other cats around because it is very contagious and can cause the death of many cats.

The responsibilities you have as a pet owner is to make sure you give your pet the right care. Taking your bundle of joy to the vet can prevent him or her from suffering any prolonged problems with their health. Cat health problems can be handled easily when you get to it before the problem starts. In order to find additional information on how to help your kitten avoid the health problems mentioned in this article, you should check out the Internet for more information that pertains to these health problems. The pet you have at home needs to be in perfect health and needs to be loved by you.

Congratulations on your new found friend you got there as that little kitten truly is a beauty. You should hold that kitten close to you and never let go. You should also not forget that your kitten must be trained. Training a kitten can be difficult but it is not impossible. Training your kitten should include teaching him or her everything from using the litter box to not scratching the couch. Within this article, we are going to tell you a bit of information about training kittens.

While you are instilling discipline to your cat, you must avoid using tough punishments. No matter what you do, you should not 'spank' the cat simply because he or she did not do something that you ordered. You should utilize positive actions and avoid negative ones as you are training your kitten.

When you use negative actions such as yelling at your cat, or hitting your cat, you will find that this type of "punishment" generally is not acknowledged by him or her. These pets are known for taking these adverse actions and associating them with you and not with the bad behavior. As a result of this, the relationship between you and this pet will more than likely be strained.

Training your kitten when they are still little can make training them a lot easier than waiting until they are a full grown cat. This is because they are not set in their ways when they are still a kitten. They are merely in the new stage so this makes them easy to train. The training will be more open, because when you are young all you want to do is learn.

When you bring your kitten home, the first thing you must do is show him where he or she needs to do their business. To find the best place for the kitten to potty is to find the place that she can remember and get to as easily as possible. You should also make sure you use some good litter and a great litter box. On a side note, always keep that area clean. Kittens automatically know what to do when it comes to using the litter box. That's a natural instinct that they learn when they are young. Using the right type of litter for the kitten can be important for the kittens' health when he or she gets older.

If your cat is bored, he or she might become destructive and overly active. Playing with your kitten everyday is vital. When you neglect your cat she might stop using the litter box. Regular sessions of playtime and constant attention can prevent this from happening. Occassionaly, litter box problems can go away overnight.

When the kitten does just what you want them to do, then you should give them rewards. The reward could be something as little as petting them and whispering to them. You could even give them a cat treat. There are many cat treats that you will be able to buy in the store, but you should make sure you get the ones that are the healthiest.

It is important to catch your kitten while they are in the act if you want to ensure that he or she learns the proper way to do something. Water is something that kittens hate. One trick to stop the bad behavior from a kitten would be to spray some water in their face. You can also use anything that makes a loud noise such as a whistle since kittens hate loud noises.

When you have a kitten, apart from training, you should make sure you spend time with him or her each day. As you are spending time together, your little one is going to get fond of you and will learn that you are their friend. When your cat is doing something that is not acceptable in your case, then you should let them know this. You should do this by correcting that behavior and showing them what is the right way. Keep in mind that cats are known for having attention spans that are short.

Congratulations on your kitten and make sure you take care of him or her. Kitten training is not something that is hard to do. If you love animals, then you will enjoy training them. If you have not gotten a kitten yet, then you should make sure you are fully ready to get one. There are hundreds, thousands and even millions of cats that wind up neglected and put in animal shelters only because people found they were not able to care for their cats. They found that the cats were a nuisance or they simply lost all interest in them.

If you are in a busy mall, do some people catch your attention without them trying hard to do so? At the office, do you come face to face with individuals who have this wonderful aura that makes you feel envious? How about seeing individuals in the park who have smiles in their face throughout their stay there? Do you want to know the secret behind their glow? It doesn't have to be a mind-boggling question. Most probably, the cause for their state of bliss is their pet.

Whether you care to admit it or not, having a pet can be a wonderful addition to one's life. Nowadays, with everyone feeling the pinch of economic crisis, environmental degradation and political turmoil, it is so easy to succumb to depression and hopelessness. Bad news seems to prevail all over the television, the radio, the newspapers and even the internet. However, if you have something worthwhile to occupy your time, like cuddling with your pet, you will have the energy to last you throughout the day. You will also have a very good reason to be excited about right after the office bell rings.

It has been proven by numerous studies that pets are therapeutic creatures to be with. Therefore, it doesn't come as a surprise that many hospitals are utilizing this technique.

The next few paragraphs will enumerate the reasons why a pet can make you happy. Read this interesting and comprehensive article to know the details.

First of all, pets have this uncanny ability to make their owners feel good about themselves. Most pets are actually smart and responsible which makes them such a wonderful companion. They are also not ashamed to show their affection so their owners enjoy cuddling them. Unlike other people who are not content with what you give them, pets are already happy if you have met their basic needs. Just give them their food, water, dog house, quality time at the park and regular visits to the veterinarian and they will thrive. Pets do not throw temper tantrums regularly and they don't bug you at the office through phone calls or electronic mails. They are content to wait for you until you come home.

Second, having a pet improves your self-worth. If you are responsible for someone's needs, such as their food, physical condition and health, you feel more productive. Being productive can lead to a sense of increased self-esteem. This will show in the way you deal with other people such as your boss, your co-workers, your family and even your neighbors. You have a happier approach to life and the glow that will reflect on your face is simply an outward manifestation of how you feel inside. People will undoubtedly notice it.

Third, a pet will gain you new friends. People gravitate towards other people who carry with them their dog, cat, rabbit or pigeon in the park. It will improve your social networking skills. Remember that there are a lot of topics that can be broached when one is in the company of an animal. From their needs to their quirks, you will not be at a loss for something to talk about with a total stranger.

Are you ready to gain the perks of possessing a new pet? Well, wait no more. Head to the nearest animal store and get one now.

Wanting to become a pet owner is wonderful. But you must notice two things that you need to know about. One is quality pet health insurance because without it your pet is not safe. The next key thing is that using cheap pet meds will damage your pet terminally if you find the wrong quality of medication.

Every owner will have cat health questions from time to time. Short of calling a vet or paying for an expensive visit every time a little issue crosses your mind, you have to find resources that will give you answers directly. Cats are a pleasure to have in the home, but their health must be looked after just as any other animal requires.

You are probably already familiar with the most basic issues of cat health. You likely know how to look after the litter box so it remains sanitary and smell free, but are you aware of some of these other health issues?

Are pain medications safe for a cat?

If your cat were to somehow get injured and appeared to be in severe pain, what would you do? This is a common issue with cat owners, because this species of pet is very good at hiding signs of pain. Some pets actually have to be in severe pain for it to really be obvious, but you can assume there is pain if they are less active, hiding, or just not acting like themselves after an accident or mishap of some sort.

The good news is there are some specific pain killers that are safe for cats as long as they are given in the right dosage and at the right intervals. If you think your cat is in pain take them to the vet and never try to medicate them on your own.

Can felines give a disease to humans?

It is hard for many owners to even entertain the idea that their beloved pet could actually pass a disease or health condition to their own body. The truth is there are some feline diseases and conditions that can in fact be passed to humans.

So, does this mean cats living inside the home are unsafe or unsanitary? Absolutely not! It just means that you have to take proper care of your cat to ensure everyone stays healthy and disease free. Proper care includes looking after the litter box so it is always sanitary, bathing and grooming your pet regularly, and taking them in for all of the required vaccinations and health checks with a licensed vet.

How long will my cat live?

A feline is not going to live anywhere near as long as a human, but they are living longer in modern times than they did in the past. There are some cats living twenty or more years thanks to owners keeping them properly vaccinated and well cared for.

The average life span for a cat is around nine years, but if you are properly caring for your cat do not be surprised if your feline friend survives much longer than that.

The trick to living many years of happiness with your cat is to familiarize yourself with cat health questions that many owners remain unaware of. Proper care is the key to health and a long life span.

Have you recently adopted a sweet young kitten or adopted an older dog and plan on being his forever home? If you are a concerned pet owner of any sort, you'll discover that taking some time out to consider the benefits of pet insurance is one of the most important things you might do. Take some time to consider why you need pet insurance and how it can make you feel safer.

When you look at pet insurance, you'll find that it works much like your own health insurance does. There is a premium to pay for a time period, and as long as you keep up those payments, when your pet needs to visit the vet, the visits and care should be covered by the insurance.

It may seem like one more additional bill to cover the odd veterinary visit, but the truth is that you can get a lot of peace of mind when you purchase pet insurance. We all know that vet fees aren't cheap, but that's just talking about things like checkup. What happens when you take illness and catastrophic health failure into consideration?

Many pet owners have to decide what to do for their pets when finances are tight. After all, if you don't have the money on hand to give your pet the care that it needs, more than likely they won't get it. After all, you can't exactly make more money.

As long as you have pet insurance, you'll never have to worry about not being able to get your pet the treatment they need. When you keep paid up, you'll only have the deductible to pay. Of course this amount will vary according to the insurance policy that you have for your pet. However, you will be able to treat the problems your pet is having and this makes having the insurance worth it.

Some people try to figure out when the best time is to get this insurance. Well, it's best to get it as soon as you can. As soon as you bring home that puppy, get the insurance. Sure, he looks full of life and health now, but accidents do occur and puppies can even develop serious problems. Pet insurance can definitely come in handy. You won't have to worry about the cost. If you have the insurance, it will take care of the care for your pet for you.

Take the time to shop around when looking for a good pet insurance policy. Not all policies are going to be the same. You want to look for the one that will best cover your pet, and this is not always going to be the one that is least expensive for you. Ensure that your pet's needs are going to be well covered with the policy that you choose.

Finding the right insurance policy for your pet is something that can greatly set your mind at ease. Consider how you can keep your pet happy and what you can do to really take care of him should something catastrophic happen.

There are many responsibilities that go into owning a pet of any kind. Many factors play a part in your pet being healthy. If your pet has ever been ill you know what heartache you feel. I remember how I felt the time my dog was ill; all I thought of was helping her get better. Do You Want a Healthier Pet?

The main thing you need to watch with your pet is the food you feed them; make sure it has the right nutritional value to it. Be certain the food is designed for them. This type of food will include all the nutrients your pet's body will require to be healthy. It doesn't matter if you own a hamster, cat, or dog, they all require the right food for their systems.

In the event that you are going to give your pet people food to consume, make sure it follows their dietary guidelines. Dogs should absolutely not have anything with caffeine in it. This could bring on a heart attack with the dogs. Nor should they have sugar.

Animals can pack on extra pounds too if fed too many calories. This why the standing recommendation is to leave off scraps from the table. Fish that eat too much can die. Just like humans your pets are prone to bad health because of overeating. Most pets need enough water taken in daily to keep hydrated. Now when the pet of choice is fish, then they need certain water conditions to live healthy. So check the water often for any problems.

Be on time with your pet's annual checkup with the vet if this is relevant to your pet's health. Cats and dogs both need periodic vaccines to keep from contracting certain diseases. Rabies vaccine is especially important to them. This is even more important if you live in a location where your pets can come in contact with wild creatures.

Every pet needs exercise even fish. Fish do of course get a lot of exercise swimming constantly like they do. Cats and dogs should be ran, played with, and walked be certain that they receive enough healthy exercise. This helps keeps their bodies strong and their weight at the right point. It also helps your pet's heart be healthy. Walk your cat or dog when you go for a stroll. This is how both of you can get healthier at the same time. Provide a hamster with a wheel to run on for their health, if that is your pet of choice. This way it gets enough exercise for its health.

Your pet also needs your attention and love to have good emotional health. We should all talk to them and pet them to show how much we love them. Grooming is even part of showing this love. Cats and dogs shed hair or the fur they have can get all matted without correct combing and brushing.

Following the above suggestions will help you have the healthiest pet you can have. Is this not what all of us pet owners want? So have a healthier pet today!

Wanting to become a pet owner is wonderful. But you must notice two things that you need to know about. An important key is quality pet health insurance because unless you have it your pet is not secure if accidents happen. The second is that using cheap pet meds can hurt your pet terminally if you purchase poor quality of medication.

To start we will discuss the negatives of using homemade kitten food and then go to positives of using homemade kitten food.

Making homemade kitten food can be time consuming. Lets face it; there is nothing easier then opening a bag or can and pouring it into a bowl. When you make your own kitten food you will have to set some time aside every two to three days to prepare the food.

On the other side, the more used to making homemade kitten food you are the less time it will take you to make it and it has been proven that the more your cats diet resembles his natural diet in the wild, the healthier and longer your cat will live.

Making your own kitten food will cost more money in the beginning. A kitten eats uncooked meat and veggies.

It will actually cost you less money in the long run to feed your cats homemade food. When your kitten gets the right amount of nutrition he will be sick less often. That means that you will spend less on vet bills. You still need to get your friend his shots but the sick vet bills will be greatly reduced. Your kitten will also eat less when he is properly feed.

You can't just start feeding your cat homemade food because some of our food is actually poison to him. Make sure you do your homework first and do it thoroughly.

Some of the foods that are poison to cats is onions, garlic, and tomatoes. Your cat should not eat anything that is considered part of those food groups. Cats are also lactose intolerant. Milk will not kill your cat but it will make him feel bad.

Just like everything you do, when you know the rules and follow them, you won't have to think about them. It will become second nature.

Feeding your kitten homemade cat food will allow your kitten to live a long, healthier life. Feed your kitten homemade kitten food.

Are you living alone in a single apartment unit in the middle of a crowded city? Do you want some company that is not demanding of your time? Or maybe you just prefer indulging in your maternal instinct and want someone to cuddle when you get home minus the complications of a personal relationship. If you replied yes to the three aforementioned queries, then maybe it's about time you get a pet.

Undoubtedly, pets are known to be good choices when it comes to bonding moments especially if one desires freedom from fellow humans. History has shown that pets are extremely loyal, highly intelligent and responsible in certain chores. And, when compared to humans, they are not clingy and can be left alone for hours or even days. Just leave them some food, water and their other basic needs. Isn't that a relief to be free from constant attention?

You can choose from a wide selection that is available in the pet store or in the veterinarian's clinic. There are dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and even exotic animals like albino pythons and tarantulas. Whatever your personality may be, there is always a corresponding pet to fit your judicious needs.

A lot of people opt to buy tame animals like cats and dogs because they are relatively easy to care for. For those who pick a cat over a dog, here are certain advantages that a cat can give its owner. Read this article why being a cat owner is satisfying.

One, being a cat owner trains you to become more aware of other's needs. Not only will you worry about your basic necessities for the week, you will also learn what food, grooming stuff, exercise routine and medication your cat will require. You will also deal with the fact that you have to visit the vet in case your pet doesn't feel well. All these may sound like additional chores in your lifestyle but the virtues you will develop are simply priceless. Other people will definitely notice that you have changed for the better.

Second, if you possess a cat, you will be motivated to face each day with passion. This results from having found a purpose in life. Basically, you are now aware that you are being relied on; hence, you have something to look forward. You don't feel as if you are alone in this whole, wide world. Coming home after office hours is also a pleasurable experience now with your cat's presence. If you had a bad day at the office due to a fight with a co-worker or a crazy meeting with clients, you can de-stress with your beloved kitty.

Third, you can add more friends to your list if you participate in activities being sponsored by cat lovers or by joining a cat owners' group. Since you have the same concern, you will not lose a topic to talk about. There are many passionate people like you who are into cats. There is no need for weird icebreakers to be performed if you find yourself in this predicament.

So after reading this interesting and information-filled write up, you are now ready to own a cat. Head to the nearest animal clinic and pick the feline of your choice. Enjoy!

Being a pet owner is wonderful. But you must notice two things that you need to know about. An important key is quality pet health insurance because without it your pet is not safe. The second is that using cheap pet meds will damage your pet terminally if you find the wrong quality of medication.

You now have had a dog for about 2 years you say. So you are fairly accustomed to giving it good care. You water and also feed it on a daily schedule, and you take good care of its coat too. But you are asking for advice on how to help your dog survive healthier and longer. So here is a method that is easy to do and will result in your dog surviving longer and healthier.

Feeding your dog carefully is important to its health. Look for dog food that gives it totally daily nutrients. For a long time it has been advised not to feed your dog from the table scraps, that you and your family leave behind after a meal. It could cause your pet to put on excess weight.

The dog food that you buy at the vets or in the grocery store has been processed not to have too much fat in it. They come for senior dogs, adult dogs, and puppies. Each group of food is geared appropriately to the age of the dog.

You need to be certain that your dog has enough fresh water a day too. They need to stay hydrated just like we humans do. So make sure their water bowls get filled daily, or get the special water bowl that have a container attached, to continuously feed water to the bowl.

Groom and brush your dog as much as is called for as far as what breed it is. Your dog usually can be brushed everyday and then give the dog a bath maybe twice a month unless the dog requires it more often. Some get dirtier than others because they are outside a lot more. The dog having a nice, shiny coat shows how healthy they are.

Dogs need exercise just like we do and there are several ways to exercise your dog. You can take them for long walks this gives you exercise too. You can train your dog to catch a Frisbee in mid air; they usually have to run to do this. Have your dog fetch a ball or stick, some dogs will run full out to do this. Many dogs love to swim and enjoy the water right along with you, when you go for a swim in your pool or a lake. They also have competitions for dogs to run courses and do different activities. Some parks now have sections for dogs to go play with other dogs too.

An annual checkup by a vet is required for your dog. There are certain vaccines that the dogs require to help protect them against diseases like rabies. Their ears and teeth also need to be in good health. The dog will have a hard time eating and getting nutrition without teeth. A dog's ears can become easily infected, depending on the breed, when not given proper care. Your vet will show you how to give your dog the correct care.

Just do these tips and add a good dose of love to make you dog live more years. Your dog is a family member and when one is lost it is truly heart crushing, so make sure to care for your dog correctly. In this way the dog will stay part of the family for many more years.

Being a cat owner there are so many things you must learn. An important thing is to get pet health insurance to make sure your pet is covered. Most owners of cats will start searching online for cheap cat insurance and get a bad policy plan. Don't let the price be the only thing you look at.

If you are a pet owner and your pet is either a cat or a dog you probably already know these things. Most of the time pet owners tend to forget how important these things are so I am here to remind you.

* Movement: Both a pet cat and a pet dog will need for you to make them use their physics. Their body need exercise to function and the larger the pet's body is the more exercise will be required.

* Way to exercise: If your cat is a stay at home cat you will need to take it out into nature. If you live in a big city you must take it for daily walks. All dogs (even the smaller ones) will need at least one daily walk and for larger breeds you need two or three walks a day of at least 30 minutes.

*Excess for is bad: Be sure not to overfeed your pet. Most cats and smaller dogs will only eat when they are hungry will many larger breed dogs will eat whatever you put in front of them and they can't stop until the food is gone.

* Healthy ingredients: Be sure to feed your pet with high quality food. You will find that you'll have to pay a little extra for the food but your pet's health condition will be improved drastically if you do.

* Love: Just like humans a pet will need love from you and from anyone else in your family. Without love a pet will lose the will to live just like a human would. Talk to your pet daily using happy words and make sure to keep a physical contact as well.

* Insure your pet: Every day thousands of pets get hurt by cars and there is nothing we can do about it. But instead of hoping that it'll never happen to your pet be sure to get an good pet health insurance that will cover everything if bad luck strikes.

* Keep a schedule: To make things easy on yourself be sure to use some kind of schedule. Feeding your pet should be obvious but things like medical checks and vaccinations might not be. For an optimal health condition of your pet youll need to remember these things as well.

When you own a cat, perhaps cat diabetes never entered your mind when your brought your kitten home. Now that you have your cat, you want to do everything possible to provide good cat care that will give your pet a long and happy life. While it's unfortunate that diabetes strikes some cats, it is important for pet owners to be aware of the symptoms and learn what to do if it affects you cat.

There are two primary types of diabetes. The similarities between human and cat diabetes make it easy to diagnose, and fortunately there are treatments. Type 1 Diabetes is a result of insufficient insulin production. Type 2 Diabetes is a result of the body not processing the insulin in the body efficiently. A secondary type of cat diabetes that is seen occasionally is triggered by drugs that may have impaired the body's ability to naturally process insulin. Cat diabetes strikes cats of all ages, but most frequently it is seen in older cats.

Owners often discover their cat has diabetes through routine cat care. Your cat may exhibit unusual thirst and urination, lose weight unexplainably, have vomit, weakness, a decrease in appetite and a change in skin/coat.

When a pet cat displays the symptoms of diabetes, it might be wise for pet owners to have their cats tested for sugar levels in the blood as well as in their urine. The reason why both tests might be required is that cats under stress may experience a temporary spike of their blood sugar levels. The two tests will help confirm if your pet cat really has diabetes.

There is not a cure for cat diabetes right now, but through good cat care them symptoms can be controlled. Through diet and careful weight management, you cat can still live a happy life. Your vet may recommend a diet high in fiber, and containing complex carbs. Weight management is most important for extremely obese cats. Diet will not only help with weight, but will also normalize sugar levels.

Pet owners of diabetic cats may also need to carefully monitor their pet's glucose and insulin levels. For those pet owners who resort to giving their diabetic cats insulin injections for their diabetes, care to avoid overdose should always be maintained. An overdose of insulin can be a very fatal condition in cats. There are also some dietary supplements that can be used to help diabetic cats deal with their condition.

Even if you have a diabetic cat, you can still use good cat care practices to give your pet a long and happy life. Your cat can live for many years with proper treatment. You cat will provide you with love and companionship for many year. He deserves the best from you as his owner.

Ever since the beginning of time, dogs have been the most preferred choice as pets by most households. Many have proven that they are proficient, steadfast, smart and trainable in diverse farm duties and simple household tasks. They can be charming and submissive to their owners but vicious to total strangers. These qualities make them an ideal escort for those who are single in life as well as to couples who are just planning to start their own brood. Babies to older adults will not have a hard time adjusting to their presence.

Studies show that a dog's behavior as an adult is a result of his breeding and training. Because you can't do anything anymore about a dog's breed since it is an inherent part of his personality, you just have to make sure that he was trained well in his younger days so that you won't be experiencing any attitude problems when he is already a full grown adult. This is a big consideration to mull over when you want to get another puppy in the future. Here is a list of puppy training secrets that you must know in order to have a well-mannered pet in the future.

The first thing that you should bear in mind when training a puppy is to start low and go slow. This means that you must first establish a good rapport with your pet. Do not instantaneously start the complicated tricks that will make him want to run away with his tail between his hind legs. Create a favorable mood that will make him relax and be conducive to training. Upon reaching that ideal state, then you can already commence your training schedule. This might seem cruel but you have no alternative if you want to enforce obedience in his existence.

There are a lot of ways to do this but the most common includes putting a leash around his neck, placing him inside a kennel or positioning him in a crate. It is expected that your dog would howl in protest. At times, it may be too annoying that you would want to stuff his mouth with a ball of socks. However, remember that all this seemingly vicious acts will gain benefits. Try to be immune to this kind of suffering. Remember, you only want what's best for your dog. The end justifies the means, as they often say.

Second, teach him a simple trick followed by a nice reward. The treat could come in the form of a chicken or pork meat. As exemplified by Ivan Pavlov, the famous Russian psychologist, this method will make the dog associate good behavior with food. This will be stored in their memory for a long time if done repetitively.

Third, you can go the opposite direction and make your dog realize the power of negative conditioning. This is done by imposing the words no, stop and don't in the training process. Use a powerful voice if possible. An example would be catching him rummaging through the garbage. So the moment you see him, say stop out loud and give him a slight slap on the tail area.

Fourth, you have to follow through. Be consistent when giving commands and orders as well as their corresponding rewards or punishments. Do not flip flop when it comes to this. Your dog will get confuse if you did something once then change the rules the second time. He must realize that everything is well-established when it comes to your instructions.

Lastly, give choices. If there are tricks or tasks that he can't easily act upon like not digging the front lawn or backyard, then provide another alternative like another digging space beside the dog house yard.

Having pets is not an easy chore. You have a lot of duties to accomplish so that they can mature into well-bred animals in the later years. These duties include gratifying their basic requirements as well as their caprices. From their chow to their protection, from their grooming to their well-being necessities, all these tasks will be yours to shoulder the instant you have possession of your adorable canine. It is not that dissimilar from being a mom or dad to a human infant.

Dogs are the most obvious choice for pets. They are devoted, highly trainable, smart and enjoyable to be with. It doesn't matter what kind of dog you like. If you like athletic breeds, you may get a German shepherd or a pit-bull. Should you prefer toy dogs like Japanese Spitz or Shih Tzu, you can easily order them at the vet's clinic. Sport dogs like Golden Retriever and Doberman are also great choices in terms of companionship.

If you think your dog can offer numerous advantages in your life, doesn't it follow that you should also do everything possible to keep them in an ecstatic state? It's the least you can do for all the fun moments that they have shared with you. Here are some cool ways to make your canine happy. Read on.

First of all, keep your dog in a blissful state by providing it with the requisite food, water, exercise, dog house and a regular visit to the nice neighborhood veterinarian. Make sure that you are offering them with nutrients that are fitting for their breed and chronological age. Just like human beings, big dogs need more calories while the small ones can make do with just a serving of dog food. In the same manner, young pups have slightly different nutritional necessities than their older counterparts. Dogs with longer hair also need more vitamins and minerals compared to those with thinner and finer coat.

An exercise routine every day or very week is the way to go in terms of bodily activities for these four-legged canines. Walking them in the park or playing Frisbee with them three times a week for a minimum of at least 30 minutes per session is enough to give their cardiovascular system a high-quality calisthenics. This will avert them from getting obese or developing diseases like atherosclerotic hearts.

A refuge is necessary to protect them from the extremes of the temperature. It will also act as their protection during windy days.

A regular trip to the medical veterinarian will help maintain their health. Be particular of their needed vaccinations. Take note of all the required immunizations so that you won't experience any untoward problem as they grow up. Regard your vet's advice as the rule to follow because they are aware that each dog breed has varying needs.

You may also give them a treat once in a while by giving them luxurious sessions in a dog spa. Cool shower baths, extensive nail clipping, fur conditioning, tooth brushing and other related services will make your pet dog feel so pampered. Consequently, these hygienic activities will also help remove the fleas that might have gotten stuck on their skin.

Spend quality time with your pooch. Aside from your bonding moments during your exercise meeting, make time to embrace and cuddle him the moment you get home from work. You may also try chatting with him like you would any normal person. Studies show that relating with animals decreases the stress hormone cortisol in the body. Consequently, this seemingly easy chore will then give long-term benefits to both of you.

Lastly, dog-proof your home so that accidents can be avoided or at the very least, minimized. Make sure all electrical appliances are kept or installed in harmless places. Be particular about floppy wires and blunt or heavy kitchen apparatus and utensils spread just about anywhere. Place your things in their proper locations so that your pet dog won't trip on it.

Locating a VIP pet insurance is not that easy and that is why we're offering our pro bono assistance. To learn more about pet health and pet health be sure to come by our website today.

Did you grow up without ever owning a lovable pooch because your parents are very strict with regards to the cleanliness in your household? Did they make you feel that having dogs can lead to a messy living space? Well, if that's the case, you surely lost a lot of experiences that could have made you into a much better individual. If you are a parent right now and you don't want the same thing to happen to your little kids, get a pet dog that will be their trustworthy companion as they face the challenges of life.

It is not easy to just get a dog for a pet. You have to consider plenty of things before taking the plunge. Bear in mind that you are to share your life with this animal for a long time. Therefore, think if your family members will be agreeable with your decision. Then, there is the factor of your house and lawn. You might also mull over what breed you want as well as the maintenance expenses. You have to make sure it won't drain your monthly budget.

This article will explain the reasons for each consideration. Read on so that you will be guided accordingly in your search for the ultimate dog.

If you are a single guy or girl, then you won't have to think of other people's opinions about what dog to get. However, if you have a wife or kids, that's a different matter altogether. Their opinions should be factored in so that you can make the best choice for the whole family. They can help you see clearly all the advantages and disadvantages of getting a particular dog. Collaborate with them in a harmonious manner.

Second, the size of your house and yard must be assessed. If you have a small place, a small dog should be your pet. They do not require a humongous place to play around in. If you provide them with a small dog house, they won't complain. This is not the case for guard dogs. They want a huge area where they can run and play to their heart's content. If they can't stretch their lean limbs and torso every single day, they will feel bad and get depressed. This would cause mayhem because they may throw temper tantrums. You don't want this to happen, right? Therefore, be wise enough to know what is good for your dog.

Third, read about what breed you want. Not all dogs are created the same. Take note that there are individual differences. Some dogs are prone to getting sick in dusty environments. Others are easy prey to sickness when the temperature changes. Also consider the temperament of the dog. Toy dogs like the Japanese spits and poodle are fun and enjoyable to cuddle. They are also playful so they need affectionate owners. On the other hand, German Shepherds and Rottweiler?s need owners with a dominating personality that can tame them. If you are not self-assured don't consider getting their breed. They won't obey you. Even if they are still puppies, they can sense if you can be manipulated to fit their whims or not.

Fourth, if you are low on budget, get a dog that doesn't require much maintenance. If you can avoid hairy animals that need weekly grooming, do so. Also stay away from dogs that need thermally-regulated surroundings like Siberian huskies because they will jack up your electricity bills with their air conditioning needs. Stick to wash and wear dogs so that all you have to worry about is their food, regular shampoo and conditioning needs and the bill from the vet in times of sickness.

Exercise prudence and patience in selecting the dog of your choice. More often than not, you will be together for a lifetime so it is imperative that you get the best one.

Are you aware that missing knowledge about insurance and pet health is one of the reasons for many pet hurts? The second biggest problem is that pet owners think that discount pet medication is just as good as normal top notch medicin. Unfortunately they are mistaken.

If you have a new addition to your household in the form of a cat or kitten then it is essential to housetrain them as otherwise you will end up with surprises hidden throughout your home. The process of litter tray and toilet training cats and kittens can be a long and tedious process; you will need to be determined to get quick results.

To start with you will need to get your new pet litter trained before they can become toilet trained. You will need to make or buy a litter tray or box. This should be of a large enough size for your cat to move around in when they are doing their business. The litter tray or box should be placed somewhere that it is not going to be tripped over and that will give the cat a degree of privacy. This should not be the same place as where they eat or sleep, cats are very clean animals the same as we are. Bear in mind that a litter tray will also give off odours.

Once they are familiar with using the litter tray you can start to train them to use the actual toilet. This can take a fair degree of effort but is achievable with almost any cat. It is much easier done if you have a spare toilet which is designated for the cat to use.

Only after the cat has got used to the litter tray should you start to move it. At first you can bring it closer to the bathroom and then eventually inside. It may help to show the cut where the tray has gone. The next step will involve you raising the level of the tray. You can do this with old newspapers or strong cardboard boxes. Eventually you need to get it to the same height as the toiler seat and also move it into an adjacent position.

The next part of the training involves making your cat switch from the tray to the toilet. For this to be successful you will need to install a litter pan under the actual toilet seat. Into this needs to be placed the same litter as is in the tray. If you do not need to use this bathroom yourself then you can leave both the tray and pan together for a number of days before removing the litter tray or box.

The final part of the training may take some coaxing from you and also a careful check to see that the cat is using the toilet as expected. You need to remove the pan from under the toilet seat. Hopefully your cat will feel comfortable crouching on the seat without the safety of the pan beneath.

The age of the cat can play a factor in how easy they are to toilet train. A kitten may be too small to fit on a toilet seat correctly. Young cats are usually the quickest to take to it.

It is also worth understanding that your cat is going to want to use only that one toilet in your house as the others are not its territory.

The first reason you should use natural cat food is because the food you buy at the store is generally lacking nutrition wise. When your cat gets the nutrition his body needs his life span doubles.

Most likely, your cat is begging for nutritionally sound food even though he eats food on a daily basis. When your cat gets the nutrition he needs he is able to live a long healthy life.

Using natural cat food will not only let your cat live a longer life but it will allow you to have less vet bills. Every year people spend thousands of dollars on vet bills trying to save their cats from preventable illnesses.

When you feed your cat natural cat food he won't have many of the problems other cats have because he will be healthy with a good immune system.

Another thing to consider is that when your cat is getting the nutrition he needs he will eat less food. Cats, unlike people, do not eat for the gratification of eating. When their nutritional needs are met they stop eating because they are full. The average cat will only eat once a day when they get the proper nutrition.

The best thing about using natural cat food is that because you are making it, you have no doubts as to what your cat is eating. This is a big one because some of the things your cat might be eating without your knowledge is scary. One thing to be aware of though is that cats need plenty of taurine. Without taurine a cat cannot function and will die. A good source of taurine is from uncooked meat.

Some of the commercial pet food companies get their meat from dead, dying, or diseased animals. Examples are road kill, dogs and cats that are put down at the pound (the poison does not cook out so it is present in your cat's food), and diseased cows. So not only does your cat get no nutrition from most commercial food but it also causes them harm. Take note that while some do use these for meat sources, not all do.

The safest way to feed your cat is to use natural cat food.

Get additional information about natural cat food to allow your cat to live his life to the fullest. Find out if natural cat food is right for your cat.

The amount of persons that are showing an interest in pet health insurance is growing. In actual fact, a recent survey revealed that one out of three American households own an animal of some kind.

The greater part of these households have a cat or a dog that they take care of. These animals especially, will benefit enormously from a health insurance plan. And, believe it or not you can get the plan for an incredibly small fee.

Really, you avidly pay for this insurance for your pet in the same manner that you pay for your own health care. Pet health insurance can help you save a lot of money if your pet ever comes down with a cold or is injured in any way.

There are many individuals that aimlessly spend thousands of dollars each year taking their animals to the vet. With the decline of the economy these charges can build up fast. Besides, over the past year the amount of folks that used to take their animals to the vet has declined.

Individuals have not ceased bringing their animals to the vet due to the fact that they don't care for them. Roughly, persons have ceased conducting vet visits for their animals because they simply cannot afford it.

The current economic decline has already caused a plethora of animals to suffer. These animals are not suffering because their owners do not care about them, they are suffering because their owners cannot afford to care for them properly.

Pet health insurance will help owners to be able to afford the monotonous vet visits. Owners will submit a small monthly fee, which depends on the age of your pet and their health conditions and then everything is generally paid for.

Owners will receive peace of mind when they enroll their pets onto their own insurance plan. In the event that your pet gets sick or is hurt in anyway, you will not have to question taking them to the vet to get them looked at.

A lot of people avidly view their pets as a part of their families, almost like their children to an amount. Would you desire your child to suffer with ailments, and not be able to take them to the doctor? Then why would you want your pet to suffer with a problem that they may have?

There are many different types of plans that you can choose from that will meet your pets immediate needs. The plans are affordable and can fit into anyone's current budget. Protect your best friend from the worst with pet health insurance.

Health insurance is time and again something that folks ignore because they hope that nothing will ever happen to them. However if you want to take out any sort of health insurance, you should read helpful advice on buying health insurance at OCC Health News.

Many folks who have been owned by cat would chuckle uncontrollably at the thought of putting a leash on it, just like a dog, and taking it for a walk around the neighborhood. Cats have their own opinion about things, and the idea of tying your cat to a piece of string and making her follow you may be one that is hard to believe.

Even considering the nature of the cat, many cat owners are happily walking their very happy cats on a harness, walking jacket or leash. It may sound impossible, but it can be done with some patience, (OK, maybe a LOT of patience) and your cat can get a whole new life, safely enjoying the outdoors and getting much needed exercise at the same time.

Teaching a cat to wear a leash is not an easy task. Your cat has to have the right personality for something like this, and as an owner you need to have an immense amount of patience.

The first few times you take your cat outside on a leash will probably result in a freaked out cat, especially if your cat has always been an indoor cat and has never really ventured outside.

All the new sights, sounds, and smells are bound to be quite overwhelming to your cat, and this is where your immense patience has to come in.

Don't buy a leash that is designed for a small dog, but instead look into purchasing a leash or lead that is specifically designed with a cat in mind. These leads wrap around your cat, giving you control of the cat and keeping the cat from choking itself in a frantic attempt to get away.

You might want to practice on the lead at home a few times, although most cats will not like this at all. Don't let this deter you from trying it outside, because for some cats the fact that they are outside is enough to make them tolerate the leash or lead. The cat might get so wrapped up in exploring the great outdoors that it doesn't really notice the lead very much anymore, and this is the ideal situation.

If, after you have been taking very slowly, and your cat still, after you have progressed to actually going outside, still is scared after a few tries, then maybe this is not for your kitty.

Trying for some time in baby steps is the way to be successful, but there are cats who just won't have any part of this. Be observant. If your cat gets a little more comfortable each and every time, then continue taking her out. Short trips with lots of praise and treats.

You may be surprised that before long your cat will absolutely adore her outside adventures ans will get all excited any time you go anywhere near her leash... just like a ,,, er,,,dog :)

There are numerous reasons why many people consider the cat to be an ideal family pet. One of those reasons is simply that there is very little potty training involved. Get some cat litter and a litter box and you now have a pet you can keep inside with you all day.

Mother cats are great about teaching their kittens how to use a litter box. Your job is simply to make sure your cat knows where the box is located. Once he learns this, it is unlikely he'll do his business elsewhere. But that doesn't mean there aren't some decisions for you to make. And the first one is deciding what type of litter you want to use.

If this is your first cat you'll be a bit shocked when you see all the different types of litter now available. So how do you decide what's best for you and your pet?

If cost is a primary factor, clay litter is always a good bet. It's cheaper and was one of the first commercial litters available. But it does have some drawbacks. You will need to clean it and change it more frequently. Clay absorbs liquid, but it also absorbs odors, and nobody wants their house to smell like cat waste. And if by chance your kitten is prone to allergies, clay may cause some problems. Dust tends to fly up as your pet scratches around in his box.

Clumping cat litter has quickly become the most popular. The litter works with the moisture in the waste, clumping up as soon as your cat goes. This is good for you because you don't have to change out the entire box, you simply scoop out the clumps, then add more litter to replace what you just cleaned away. And although it won't remove the smell, clumping litter does come in several different scents to help hide the odor. The problem here is that some cats tend to eat the clumps. You'll have to watch your cat carefully to make sure this is not an issue.

Silica litters are some of the newest on the market. Silica has been used for years in the small packets you see in pill bottles or in your new pair of shoes. It's used because it is a great moisture absorber, and silica crystals in your cat litter work much the same way. They are mixed with sand and water to easily absorb any liquids in your cat's waste. You still have to scoop out the solid waste, and because it does not clump, it can be a bit messy. Another plus is that this litter is biodegradable, and simply returns to a sandy base when it decomposes.

Another biodegradable litter is paper litter, which is becoming very popular with environmental pet owners. This litter is made from pellets or recycled paper. In addition to being biodegradable, it is absorbent and is easy to carry around because it does not weigh very much.

Another litter that is generally biodegradable is made from wood. Pine is the preferred choice because of it's natural odor absorbency, but other woods are used as well. All softwood litters are absorbent with natural odor control capabilities. That means no chemicals need to be added, giving you a more natural product.

But once you decide on the type of litter you want, it's always wise to consult with your cat. They will surely let you know if they disagree with your choice by simply not using the litter box. Some cats for example don't like silica because the crystals hurt their paws. Others avoid pine because they just don't like the smell. Even though your cat can't speak, he will definitely let you know if he doesn't like what you have selected.

And while it is smart for you to know as much as possible about all the choices available to you, your cat will have the final word on whether or not you made the right decision.

Cat urine. One of the less appealing odors one can ever have in the house... And trying to get cat urine out of carpet is for some people in the same category as having a root canal.Yes, it is distressing and it is easy to get angry with the cat. Who wants a smelly house?

Removing cat urine is one of the more challenging cleaning tasks. Not only is it very pungent, the urine actually bonds with fibers in your rug. The biggest mistake when cleaning the cat urine is to not use proper cleaners.

Salts in the urine form crystals that causes another type of bond with an ionic charge. The longer the urine has been on the rug, the stronger these bonds become.Using a homemade cleaner will not dissolve these bonds, nor does steam cleaning your carpet. Sometimes steam cleaning will make the problem worse.

Some cleaners available at the store are nothing but "odor maskers". Other products attempt to absorb the foul smell.

These products, along with the home made remedies, may have short term results, but in order to completely eliminate the odor, (and to not encourage your cat to soil in the same place) every trace of the urine needs to be removed by cleaners that can undo the strong bonds between the fibers of your rug and the urine.

So, you got cat pee on your rug? What is the first thing you should do?

1. Mop up as much of the urine as you possibly can. Use absorbent paper towels or old towels. Lay them on the spot and blot until there is no trace of wetness. Recognize that you may only see a small part of the spot as the urine soaks into the padding under the carpet. Be careful adding water to the spot. You don't want the spot to spread out into the padding underneath.

2. Use a cleaner based on enzymes that will actually consume the urine. Inject it into the padding, and then spray on top of the carpet. Pet the cleaner into the carpet.

3. When using a proper cleaner, that is all you need to do. No rinsing needed. Keep your cat away from the area until it is completely dry which can take a few days.

It can be easy to get angry with the cat for not using the box. But try to control yourself and don't scold or get angry at your cat.

When a cat eliminates outside the litter box it is a sign that something is amiss. Frequently a medical issue such as a urinary tract infection is the cause which would need medical attention. The cause needs to be discovered and corrected to ensure future success.

Armed with the correct information and the proper products cleaning the urine from your carpet while preventing the behavior to re-occur, you are well on your way to have a happy purring kitty and a clean smelling home.

For these past few years, there is an obvious shift towards disease prevention in humans, how to keep fit, how to eat sensibly, get regular check-ups and hope nothing is wrong with the system and undergoing and doing all of these things can make one feel at ease, at peace and experience lesser risks from diseases. The same is true with animals especially cats. These purrty felines also need a lot of good health care, a lot of loving care and if you're a cat owner and you don't do some of these things to your cat, it will potentially be harmful to you, too, and you'll get a lot of stress and you could be wasting a lot of valuable time and money, that is, if you do really care for these lovely pets 100%. So take a good look at cat health in depth.

Cats are known to be very flexible, super-careful and fluid with their movements. Even if you will throw them up in the air, they will land on their feet as easy as that with no harm done, not even a scratch. They can squeeze into tiny holes or opening even without damaging their hair. Cats are ninjas of the animal world but even the strongest, fieriest and fluid ninja warrior are vulnerable to wounds.

You know, you can do away will all of those things if you just try to be cautious and be aware of how to take care of your cat. If you're practical enough, you should already have the knowledge and you can distinguish between prevention and cure. With humans, prevention is better than cure and it's the same as with cats. If you want to save money, learn some practical ways on how to care for your cat and its health.

First and foremost, what you need to do all the time is to ensure your cat has plenty supply of fresh water to drink. Make your home safe for your cat. There are very curious little fella and just like children, they would reach at anything and it's true to what they say about curiosity can kill a cat.

If it requires going to the veterinarian, you need to find a specialist regarding deep cuts or wounds. However, due to time constraints, you need to educate yourself with first aid for your feline friend.

She didn't know what to and the best thing that I told her was to call her vet and she did but it was too late.

Now, this is very important among other important things. Create good bonding relationship with your tabby friend. Play with him. Go and chase mice with him. A friend once had a great time with his cat when they "search and destroy" mice under the sofa, oven toaster and anywhere else. This will also help him keep fit and fight stress.

The only answer to all these questions is go online and find the best solution for cat health bleeding issues. You can immediately find the solution, may it be temporary or permanently, until you can avail of the services of a vet. Not only will this kind of action treat your cat immediately. It can also provide good bonding and stronger relationship between you, the master, and the animal.

The primary way for fleas and ticks to survive is to suck blood from your pet, may it be a dog or a cat or a bear or a lion or chimp. But it would be difficult for your naked eye to see if there are ticks and fleas in your dog's skin because of its thick fur unless your dog scratches itself to death. You might say that it's only a "scratch" but what you might now know is when there are more fleas, more than you can imagine, it will render your dog anemic and they can transfer some awful disease to your pet. The best way to get rid of them is to get Advantage flea drops cheap and effective.

Okay, first things first. You have to be aware of how you let your pet adapt a healthy and clean lifestyle. You may not know it but your buddy or your feline purr-ty friend have been playing at places where no man has gone before or where not even eagles may dare. They could have been out fresh from the can from your neighbor's house.

Research shows that this kind of anti-flea product remains effective after swimming or bathing and can still kill around ninety percent of fleas and even one hundred percent.

But the worst of all is, fleas can gather around your house and your family will be likely suffered from them. Why, even those who have no pets in their house will still be annoyed by fleas and ticks and only God knows where they came from.

For instance, before, he found that there are hundreds of fleas in one spot of his living room but after Advantix was applied on his Mimi, his pet Shigh Tzu, fleas and ticks can no longer be found in that area.

This topical treatment, available for various types or sizes of dogs, is excellent for those pets who love to swim or who require frequent bathing but attention cat owners. This is very, very, very important. You can't use Advantix on cats and it could be dangerous for them. For cats, it is highly recommended that you get a "feline version" of Advantix and its called Advantage and according to personal experiences, this is best recommended product for fleas in cats.

It is specifically designed to treat not only fleas but their eggs and larvae as well. It uses your dog as the catalyst to kill fleas. The medication can kill fleas no matter where they are, in your pet's bed, your carpet or in every corner of your house. However, even after you have seen some improvement, you should continue treatment monthly even if it is not flea season in order to kill the fleas completely and prevent future outbreaks.

Bear in mind that to get the best advantage flea and tick precautions, tips and advices, the best place is still the Internet. Why don't you try it? After all, you have nothing to gain but everything to lose and if you can find what you're looking for, remember, this will also be advantageous to your family's health as well.

About a year ago, a personal friend was grieving over his dead tabby who was inflicted with wounds after figuring out in a fight with neighborhood toughies. It was a trouble sprouted from who gets to have the best garbage bins where lots of table orts or scraps are found inside. His cat named Marty was a beautiful Bombay cat but always gets the chance to leave the house. Well, maybe, he was fascinated by other cats lingering about in a garbage buffet just right across the street until one day, Marty found his fate with deep cut wounds, infections and eventually, Death. All over the country, there are lots of cat health bleeding issues that have been reported and majority of them are caused by "street fighting".

There was once a neighbor who owns 2 cats and the younger one recently died from tetanus. But before that fateful day, Nida, not her real name, have observed how her little Dorothy was limping whenever she walked and when she finally settle down to take a rest, she would lap at her right paw for minutes and sometimes, it would take an hour before she finishes with her licking and her lapping.

But it's good to know that superficial cuts in cats can be treated at home. Deeper injuries or puncture wounds especially if inflicted by another cat or other animals require immediate veterinary attention, as does persistent, uncontrolled bleeding from a wound or orifice. Occasional, very slight bleeding during bowel movements is usually not a serious problem but if there is persistent flow of blood especially in the stool or urine, it should be investigated immediately.

Every night, you have to keep kitty indoors or else you could be walking thousands of miles looking for him not knowing all the time that he is lying cold in a pavement just blocks away from your house. Every other day, make sure his litter box is wiped clean. If you don't clean it, he won't use it and when he won't use it, he will pee anywhere or won't pee at all and this can cause infection inside him.

You need to inform yourself that injured cats will react to pain by experiencing fear and panic. It is common for cats to be uncooperative during treatment and it might even try to bite or scratch you with their claws and you have to be patient with them. If you are in their place, you will also feel and do the same, right? So, when dealing with a frightened & injured cat, it's important to secure the cat so it calms down and doesn't aggravate the existing wound or cause additional harm to itself.

But with a puncture wound, it's a different story. Aside from street fighting, they can also be vulnerable to barbed wires, thorns or fish hooks that can puncture or embed on the cat's skin. This is the time when you have to seek the help of a veterinarian. But as always, the question is, what if there are no vets available during that time? What if your vet's clinic is far away? What if you can't immediately reach your vet and your poor cat might be bleeding profusely?

The only answer to all these questions is go online and find the best solution for cat health bleeding issues. You can immediately find the solution, may it be temporary or permanently, until you can avail of the services of a vet. Not only will this kind of action treat your cat immediately. It can also provide good bonding and stronger relationship between you, the master, and the animal.

It is a good idea to learn how to raise a kitten, before you actually bring your new kitten home. This way you are well prepared and have a better understanding of what is required and what to expect.

Most kittens leave their mothers at the age of 6 weeks, by which time they are weaned, eating well and have learnt not to toilet where they sleep. This is a good age to take your kitten home as it will easily be able to cope on its own. Kittens that are too young may not thrive.

Check that your kitten has received the necessary vaccinations, and find out in advance what local government regulations apply where you live. Take the kitten to your vet as soon as possible to be cleared of any health problems. Ask the vet's advice about spaying and ongoing health needs, like worming and vaccinations.

You need to be properly prepared in advance and have what you need for the kitten. You will need a litter tray and a supply of litter, food and water bowls, kitten food, a bed and some toys. Cats are naturally clean animals, and your kitten should learn to use the litter tray quickly. A cat won't use a dirty tray, so make sure the litter is changed regularly. The litter tray needs to be in a quiet place, out of general traffic areas in the house.

It is a good idea to continue using the same food the kitten is used to, for the first two weeks. This helps to avoid stomach upsets which can be caused by a change of diet, and also limits the number of new things the little kitten has to get used to. Feed your kitten at the same time each day, and keep fresh water available. Don't allow children to interfere with it at feeding times. Wash the kitten's dishes regularly.

You can buy all kinds of cat bedding and while a cat likes sleeping in a basket, a blanket or soft towels will do the job. Take the kitten to its bed after feeding and at night, and it will soon get the idea. Remember that a kitten is still a baby and needs to be able to sleep a lot in the first few weeks in your home.

Toys provide your kitten with exercise and activity to it doesn't get bored; with no toys to play with, kitten may play with the lounge room curtains instead! Have several playtimes together each day, as this tires the kitten and forms a bond between it and its family. Cat toys are available in a fabulous variety, but some paper rolled into a ball or a sock filled with paper are just as effective and as much fun.

A new kitten will generally settle quickly into their new home. Some discipline may be necessary if your kitten decides to sharpen its claws on the furniture or climb your curtains, but a firm "no" should be enough. Invest in a cat scratching post; claw sharpening is a cat's natural instinct.

When you know how to raise a kitten properly, you will enjoy the company and fun that living with a cat represents.

It is a good idea to learn how to raise a kitten, before you actually bring your new kitten home. This way you are well prepared and have a better understanding of what is required and what to expect.

Most kittens are between 6 and 8 weeks when you bring them home, which is a good age to start a new life. At this age they are fully weaned, eating proper food and have learnt the basics of clean habits. Kittens that are very young may not thrive properly.

Check that your kitten has received the necessary vaccinations, and find out in advance what local government regulations apply where you live. Take the kitten to your vet as soon as possible to be cleared of any health problems. Ask the vet's advice about spaying and ongoing health needs, like worming and vaccinations.

You will need to be prepared with some important items, like an easy-to-clean litter tray and a bag of litter, bowls for food and water, kitten's food, a bed and a few of toys. Cats are naturally clean animals, and will use the litter tray as long as it has clean litter in it; so show it where the litter tray is and there shouldn't be too many messes. Replace the litter and wash the tray regularly, as cats won't use dirty litter. Keep the litter tray in a quiet corner.

Continue feeding the food the kitten is used to for a few weeks to help prevent stomach upsets which are sometimes caused by changing the diet suddenly. This also reduces the number of major changes happening to the kitten and helps it settle better. Be sure to feed at regular times, and let the kitten eat in peace, without interruption. Fresh water must be available all the time. Wash the food and water dishes every day.

The type of bedding you provide for your kitten will depend on your budget and your preference. A cat really appreciates a cat basket, but a soft blanket or a couple of towels will do just as well. Show the kitten its bed and it will soon know to use it. Remember the kitten is a baby and needs lots of sleep in the first weeks in its new home.

You need to provide toys for your kitten for activity and to prevent boredom. Kittens love to play and without toys may well decide to play with something inappropriate. Make sure you have several play sessions with your kitten each day; this creates a bond between you. While there is a huge range of cat toys available, a ball of paper or a stuffed sock is just as much fun for the kitten.

These tips on how to raise a kitten will make sure you know what to expect before you bring the kitten home, and will have a good understanding of what is needed for the kitten to settle into its new home quickly and easily.

Your kitten will probably be about 6 to 8 weeks of age when you bring it home, which is a good age to be separated from its litter mates. By then it will be fully weaned, eating solid food and have some idea about clean toileting habits. Kittens younger than 4 weeks may not thrive.

Always get your kitten from a reputable breeder or pet store and make sure it has had all its necessary inoculations. Check local government regulations regarding registration. Take your kitten to your own veterinarian to have a complete health check and find out what other vaccinations and health care is needed.

There are some things you need to have on hand before your kitten comes home. These include a litter tray and litter, dishes for food and water, cat food, bedding and a couple of toys. Cats are naturally very clean animals, and if you provide a litter tray with clean litter in it, your kitten will quickly learn to use it. It is important to keep the litter tray clean and fresh, as a cat will not use a dirty tray. Put the litter tray in a quiet place for privacy.

Cats love having a basket to sleep in, but you can use a blanket or some towels for its bedding instead. Once the kitten knows where its bed is, it will soon use it all the time. A kitten is still a baby and so must be left alone to have lots of sleep.

Take the kitten to its bed after feeding and at night, and it will soon get the idea. Remember that a kitten is still a baby and needs to be able to sleep a lot in the first few weeks in your home.

Cats are fairly independent creatures and generally settle in to their new home easily. Discipline is a necessary part of life to allow everyone to live comfortably together, and you may need to prevent your kitten from sharpening claws on furniture and climbing the curtains. A cat scratching post is a really good idea, as claw sharpening is a natural instinct.

When you are ready to include a magnificent feline into your family and life the question arises whether to purchase a cat, or to adopt one who is looking for a safe loving home. You can purchase a kitten or a retired breeder for a reputable breeder, or you can adopt a cat from the shelter or from a family who for whatever reason needs to relinquish their cat.

If you are interested in showing your cat, buying a purebred cat may seem like the only option, but in fact the major cat organizations such as ACFA also have a household category where you can show off your pretty kitty regardless of origins.

Acquiring your cat from a reputable breeder, (again, a caution about buying a cat from a pet store, in the US at least, many of these cats come from kitten mills where the cats are raised in deplorable conditions) can have some benefits. Many breeders offer a guarantee, and you can research past generations for health issues as well.

Some cat owners swear by certain breeds with regards to a good temperament or healthy constitution, and the only way these folks can be guaranteed that they are getting exactly the breed of cat they want is by purchasing one that has accompanying documentation. For some people, this is the only way they would consider bringing a cat into their home.

Choosing to adopt a cat means that your options are wide open. An added advantage is also that cats waiting for a home will already have lived in one and information about their behavior will most likely be available.

Some cats at shelters come with a full history, such as if they deal well with young children or with other pets. There is also a great feeling that can come with adopting a cat since some cats that are never adopted wind up euthanized by the shelter. There simply isn't always enough room for all the cats in the shelter, so sometimes there is no other choice. By adopting a cat, you're saving the cat's life.

You can also find a cat that is looking for a new family by scouting the ads in the local papers. Or post a notice in your local grocery store. Many cats have to be relinquished due to a divorce, allergies, death of the owner, changed living conditions, etc.

The advantage of adopting a cat from the shelter is that the cat will have had it's health evaluated. Adopting a cat from a family mean you have no idea if there are underlying health problems.

Some struggle with the decision of whether to rescue a cat at the shelter, or to purchase one from a breeder. Rest assured that once you do decide to get a cat, one will find you. Cats are just like that. You can start your search, investigating your options, and before you know it "your" cat will appear.

Obesity in cats and dogs can cause health problems. The pet owner may not be aware of the health risks associated with obesity. Pet owners may even think that their pets look cuter being overweight and that there is no cause for concern.

The risks of diabetes and arthritis are increased by obesity in cats and dogs. Losing weight can often make these conditions less severe. Obesity should be considered a reason to consult a veterinarian.

Certain medical conditions can cause obesity. The veterinarian may do blood tests or other tests to check for these conditions.

One example of a medical condition that can cause obesity is a thyroid condition. Hyperthyroidism and other metabolic conditions can cause the pet to put on weight and can cause other symptoms as well. If the metabolic condition is treated, it may help with the pets obesity.

Certain pet owner behaviors can contribute to the pets obesity. Free range feeding, where food is left out for the pet at all times, makes it difficult to tell how much food the pet is eating. Therefore, the pet could eat too much and the pet owner may not realize that is what is causing the obesity.

Feeding a pet too many pet treats or table scraps can cause the pet to become overweight. Many times, when a pet owner is giving table scraps to a pet, the pet owner gives foods that are high in fat or carbohydrates. Fat and carbohydrates are problematic for pet weight management.

If a pet does not get enough exercise, it is at risk for obesity. Neglecting to take a dog for a daily walk can contribute to obesity in dogs. Increasing the physical activity of the pet can help reduce the pets body weight and improve the pets health.

The pets food should be low in fat and carbohydrates. The pet owner may want to consult a veterinarian for suggestions on pet food and meal serving sizes.

As long as there are cat owners and cats, you will find products to help you get rid of that mess we call cat litter! Clay has always been the traditional favorite for the cat box, simply because it is easily available, and more importantly, because Mr. Tibbs loves it! There is just one problem - the odor! If you maintain a litter box for your cat, I don't need to explain how overpowering the odor is. If you're sick and tired of the odor then here's good news - pine cat litter. That's right, the litter is made from natural pine wood, and this masks the odor we all know so well!

The price you pay is in cash. The shelf price is twice that of the usual clumping type. That is enough to put off most cat owners. However, the effective cost of the pine pellet cat litter is hardly more than that of ordinary cat litter! The volume of the pine pellets increases on wetting, so you need only use half the usual quantity of cat litter. So that brings the cost per use of the pine cat litter on par with that of the ordinary cat litter.

Price apart, the market for pine cat litter has not really taken off as the producer expected. Very expectedly, your Tabby put his paw down on the issue. Cats, as you are well aware, are creatures of pretty strong habits, and likes and dislikes. Cats like to have things exactly their way. So, faced with a box full of little pellets, Tabby is expressing his strong disapproval of this modernism! The small pine pellets are very uncomfortable to walk on, so Tabby informs us, holding up a set of chafed paws.

The work-around for this particular problem is to get the cat using the pine pellets gradually. In the beginning put in a handful of pine litter and make up the usual quantity with the normal stuff. Gradually increase the amount of pine litter and correspondingly reduce the amount of normal litter. Finally you'll be using all pine litter. If your cat still does not go for it then that's that! You'll have to put with the odor. Better that than have your cat not use the box at all!

If you do want to use pine cat litter there is another way. Some owners use 90% pine cat litter to lay the box. The top 10% is filled up with ordinary clumping litter. Faced with his favorite litter, your cat has no objection now. And you, of course, are rid of that smell!

But what works for us appears to go against Tabby's disposition. Cats show a degree of discomfort to the smell of pine. So there are many instances of cats refusing to use the litter box when it is filled with pine pellets. Your cat can't stand the odor of pine, you can't stand the odor of cat's mess! Any guesses who'll win the stand off? Oh well, we humans pride ourselves on being understanding! In case you're wondering, the pine pellets are completely detoxified and are absolutely harmless to cats.

Pine cat litter can be composted and used as garden manure. The solid waste must be removed before composting the litter. So pine cat litter can claim to be environment-aware and environment-friendly.

It all boils down to what Tabby likes! If he likes the pine pellet cat litter, then you're all set. If he doesn't, then you'd better learn to cover your nose with a scented kerchief whenever you're in the house! Meow!

There are a number of products on the shelves which cater to the pet cat population. One very popular product is the 'cat litter' product, or simply cat litter. It is a material that is placed inside a litter box to catch the pet cat's droppings. The material prevents the box from getting soiled by absorbing the urine and trapping the solid dropping. The cat litter is very similar to ordinary dirt, to take advantage of the cat's natural predilection to cover up its droppings. The cat owner removes and refreshes the cat litter from the box every day. The used litter is disposed off in the garbage. There is just one problem - as long as the box is inside the house, there is a terrible stench that pervades the house! The odor goes only when the cat litter goes. This is a serious sore point with cat owners. Now a very enterprising producer has come up with a novel idea - pine cat litter! His litter is made up of pine pellets. The natural odor of pine masks the smell of the cat's droppings remarkably well.

The shelf price of this new variety of cat litter is twice that of traditional varieties of cat litter. But the new product proves to be cost effective since it absorbs twice the amount of moisture compared to the ordinary variety. So there is really no increase in your monthly expenditure on this account.

The acceptance of pine cat litter is still an issue, not by the owners but by the cat itself. Cats are reluctant to use the pine cat litter because the 'feel' is unnatural. The pellets tend to be a little rough on the cat's paws. The cat's acceptance or rejection of pine cat litter will be the sole deciding factor in the success of pine cat litter in the market.

My suggestion is to introduce the pine cat litter in a gradual fashion. Mix a little pine cat litter with the normal stuff. Let the cat use it and get used to the mix. It may take a day or two for the cat to get comfortable with the mix. Then increase the dose of pine litter and reduce the amount of the ordinary litter. Let the cat get used to the increasing amounts of pine cat litter gradually. Finally, you will have a 100% pine cat litter in the litter box, and 100% freedom from that very strong odor! That is if your cat decides to play ball and adjust to pine litter. If your cat resists, and even refuses to visit the litter box, then it's back to the good old clumping and the bad old smell!

Or, you can do what some ingenious cat owners are doing: they use 90% pine pellet litter and then sprinkle the top 10% with the usual litter. This way they get the advantage of pine, and the cat gets the surface it likes.

Another area of concern is that the cats are sometimes put off by the piney smell of the litter! Strange how the cat can put up with the odor of its mess but wrinkles up its nose at pine! If this is the case with your cat then you'll have to put up with the high stench of the cat's litter anyway. Just for your information: the pine litter is fully detoxified and so it is safe for the cat to use.

An added advantage is that pine cat litter can be composted. Just remove the cat's poop from the litter and that's it! So the pine cat litter wins brownie points for eco-friendliness to boot! You can distribute the compost in your backyard garden, or to your friends.

The ball really is in your cat's court... depending on whether it likes the pine litter or not! If it does, then you're looking at a home that's free from that very distinct odor, that too at negligible cost. If not, then you'd better get a nose mask while you replenish the litter box with the litter that Mr.Tibbs favors!

If you do want to use pine cat litter there is another way. Some owners use 90% pine cat litter to lay the box. The top 10% is filled up with ordinary clumping litter. Faced with his favorite litter, your cat has no objection now. And you, of course, are rid of that smell!

There is an environmental advantage in using pine cat litter. It can be composted once the cat's solid waste is removed. The composted litter can be put to use as manure for gardens, instead of adding to the ever-growing landfill of garbage.

Feline distemper is a dangerous cat viral infection that is preventable. This condition is sometimes called feline panleukopenia or feline panleuk. The feline distemper virus is related to the virus that causes distemper in dogs.

People may mistakenly think that the name distemper means that the cat disease causes aggression or changes the cats temperament. Two common signs of feline distemper are vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Other symptoms of feline distemper include abdominal pain and hunched posture.

Feline panleukopenia causes a drastic drop in the cats white blood cell levels. A cat with this cat disease may develop a high fever.

Cats infected with feline distemper often become depressed and lose their appetites. They may stop grooming themselves. The third eyelid may become more noticeable in the corner of the eye.

Feline distemper is highly contagious. It is transmitted from cat to cat by shared litter boxes, fleas, shared food or water bowls, mutual grooming, or shared bedding.

A kitten may be born with feline distemper if the mother was infected with the virus. Feline distemper can be spread from human contact with infected and uninfected cats.

Though kittens born to mothers with the antibodies have a natural immunity to the virus that causes feline distemper, this immunity is temporary. The temporary immunity to feline distemper lasts about eight weeks. In order to be protected, the kitten needs to receive the appropriate vaccines.

There is no cure for feline distemper. Treatments for feline distemper help alleviate the diarrhea and other symptoms. If the cat is to survive, the cats immune system must fight the viral infection.

Bleach is used to disinfect surfaces that may have been contaminated by the feline distemper virus. This virus can live on surfaces for years, so it is important to thoroughly disinfect all contaminated surfaces to prevent the spread of the disease.

Free cat food samples can help reduce the costs of cat supplies. At this time, many people are looking for ways to save money. Though free cat food samples are not likely to save a cat owner a substantial amount of money, every little bit helps.

Manufacturers of cat food sometimes give away free samples of cat food. Cat food samples may be given away at pet stores or through their websites.

The purpose of cat food samples is to entice new customers. The cat food manufacturers hope that the cat owners will buy the cat food.

Cat owners looking for free samples of cat food may want to start their search with a search engine. The search on a search engine like Google.com may show manufacturers who are giving away free cat food samples.

The websites of cat food manufacturers may have clubs for kitten owners or new cat owners. Often, a manufacturer will send cat care information, cat food samples, and cat food coupons to cat owners who join these clubs.

When a cat food manufacturer sells a new cat food product, the manufacturer often distributes free samples of the new cat food to those who request the sample on their website. If a cat owner notices a new cat food product advertised or in the store, the cat owner may want to check the manufacturers website for offers of free cat food samples.

The disadvantage of using cat food samples is that the samples are rather small. Therefore, the sample may only be one serving for a cat. If the owner gives the cat samples of cat food that is different from the cats usual food, the change in food may upset the cats stomach.

When using many samples of cat food, the cat owner may want to add a small amount of cat food from a dry cat food sample to the cat's usual dry cat food. Since canned or moist cat food does not stay fresh in an open container, adding small amounts over time only works for dry cat food.
