As a dog lover, would you ever want to know why cats are better than dogs? If you are a true dog lover the thought of owning a cat may well be the last thing you want to think about. This article will give you some new things to consider about cats not dogs.

What is it that would make you prefer a dog over a cat? You may need to consider that you may have been influenced by your parents and other family members. Their preference became your preference. And if you check you may well find their preference came from their family and so on over the generations

However, you may discover that felines are not "evil personified" as you may have been taught by your folks.

One of the tales passed on through the years has been the myth that a cat will steal your baby's breath away. Years ago this type of myth was called an "old wife's tale". There is no scientific basis for this kind of reasoning.

Many feline experts feel when a cat gets into an infants face, it is simply satisfying its natural instinct; for wanting to know what's new in its life and the fact that a baby's breath is a new smell and somewhat sweet to the cats nose.

Cats don't like it when sudden changes come into their life, it takes them time to acclimate to the change. There is no intent to harm.

Another reason why people may feel that cats are better than dogs is that they have a tendency to be more independent. Often times the feline is just upset because something new has occurred. You will quickly learn this by observing the way the cat reacts if you move or change the food and water dish. In most cases if you move the dish back to its original position, your kitty will quickly get over its snit.

What is hard for a lot of dog lovers to understand is that cats can be trained, just as well or better than most dogs. True, cats may not be trained to be police dogs or rescue animals, but they can be trained to do the following: * Walk on a leash outdoors * Fetch a ball * Walk on balance beam * Beg for treats * Play dead or roll over * Roll over and play dead

A great many cats, regardless of breed, are extremely loyal to their master and the master's family. They can sense the mood changes you, as a human may have. They are very sensitive to anger and high stressful situations. It is not unusual for them to try and comfort you when you are sad or lonely.

Another misconception, which many dog lovers seem to have is that cats are not affectionate. Wrong! These wonderful bundles of fur love to be loved and love to return love. When you return home in an evening, they may not jump all over you, but they will be rubbing and purring to get your attention as soon as you shut the door.

Did you know that cat's really can talk to you? They can communicate with vocal sounds. They also use body language for different situations. Many cat experts believe that every sound a feline can make has a meaning. Such as: 1. Meowing - Give me some Attention 2. Caterwauling - Warning or Danger 3. Purring - Contentment and security

As you will soon see as you listen to the cat you will pick up on their "talking", you will find if you have an open mind a cat can be a welcome addition to families that love pets. Cats not dogs may be your next pet if you want to try something different.

When considering pet grooming options, one must decide which pet groomer will be best. There are many dog groomers out there, but very few cat groomers. If you have a cat you should look carefully at what specific facilities offer cat grooming expertise. Cats are finicky animals and they can be very hard to groom, putting the groomer at risk for bites or scratches. Choosing a professional cat groomer is a important decision the pet owner must make to ensure the health and happiness of their cat.

The first thing a pet owner has to understand is that if they brush or bath their pet at home, there is absolutely no way a pet groomer is going to be able to. Professional groomers are people who know how to make a pet look good, they aren't animal trainers. Pet owners shouldn't expect them to turn into trainers when they drop their pet off at the pet groomers.

The easiest way to teach your pet that grooming is a pleasurable experience is to start grooming them when they are very young. Sure puppies and kittens squirm around a lot, and grooming them will be difficult, but they are still small. They are a lot easier to hold onto know then they will be a year or two down the road. And remember, part of the reason they are squirming and wiggling around is because they are so happy to be with you.

Dog and cat owners all know that trimming their pets nails can be a monstrous engagement. Although you shouldn't have to trim the nails of your new puppy or kitten, you can make play with their feet and start getting them accustomed to the feel of your fingers against their paws. This will make your life easier down the road.

Regardless of the initial cost in procuring a family pet, the family needs to be aware and understand the responsibilities that they have now chosen to undertake. The animal's health must be maintained and this will require the procurement of a good medical professional. In addition, though, the family must understand the obligations for regular pet grooming to assure a long and happy life for this family member.

Overall we want to know whether Russian Blue Cats are the smartest of other cat breeds. Well, we at least want to know if they?re smarter than different cat breeds. Is it possible to tell? The truth is many of their breeders and owners believe they are. However, their belief comes from the respect and love they have for their own personal pet . The following information will give you more information, so you can determine if the Russian Blue feline is smarter or not.

Most of the breeders and owners have no scientific data to back up their opinion. They tend to base this opinion on the fact of how loyal the animal is to them. Also it's amazing ability to attune itself to their adopted families moods at a moments notice. Thus leading them to think the animal can read their minds.

In addition the Russian Blue Cats have been known to learn how to open things such as windows and doors. They have also been known to play hide and seek, fetch and other parlor tricks. Again this is a learned behavior on the part of the Archangel Blue. Many of the owners and breeders feel that only this breed is capable of such behavior. Not so! Frankly, that is a false assumption on their part. A great percentage of the other different cat breeds are intelligent enough to be trained to do the same thing. It all comes down to the patience of the trainer and the willingness of the feline to learn the tricks.

Even though they look like a cat from the wilds they interact extremely well with children and believe it or not dogs. You will spend many hours watching this little clown like creature entertain you with his antics. Often times this playful little cut up will instigate a game and will continue to pester you until you play along. Because of its high degree of intelligence they are very easy to leash train and teach other tricks.

This particular breed is considered to be extremely intelligent and extremely loyal to its master. The Javanese will respond to the mood of their master, by even attempting to communicate with different sounds. Many of the owners and breeders say this form of 'talking" is distinctive to what is taking place at the time. As far as intelligence they also are quick learners and have been known to fetch, hide and seek, find hidden objects and other learned behavior.

Giving a cat a pill can be a nightmare. No cat wants something shoved down his throat, and he will fight you tooth and nail to prevent it. Although most cats are small in size, you'd be quite amazed with how much power they actually have. There are ways that you can get your cat to take his pills, which we will cover below.

The easiest way to give a cat pill is to crush the power into a powdery form by putting it between two spoons. Once the pill is powder, mix it in with some wet cat food. Cats that are used to eating dry cat food will see the wet food and think of it as a treat. They will normally eat it up, unaware that they just took their medicine.

Crushing a pill or emptying a capsule into food is risky. The taste and smell is often bitter and easily detectable by the cat. If you must use this method, make sure whatever you use is sufficiently strong in both smell and taste. It will also be necessary to make sure your cat eats the entire portion in order to get all the medicine into his system.

When you get your gun, your vet should show you how to use it. The most difficult aspect of using the gun is getting your cat to open his mouth. The gun will more or less shoot the pill in the cat's mouth, and down his throat. You"ll need to hold him tight, to make sure that he doesn't wiggle his way loose.

If your cat still won't swallow the pill, you can also push the pill down his or her throat. This may seem a bit cruel, but if your pet needs the medication, it is the best choice. You can purchase pill pushers, but it is usually more convenient and effective if you do it by hand. Your vet can demonstrate how to push up on your pet's mouth to insert the pill without getting bit.

Heart worm, fleas and other parasites in dogs need to be eliminated by following appropriate medications in them. Many products have come up in the commercial fields to protect the dogs from heart worms, fleas and other parasites like hook worms, whip worms, round worms, lice, ticks etc. Among the heart worm, fleas and other parasites, the fleas produce the hyper sensitive reactions in the affected animals. Hence, the animals infested with fleas start severely scratching of body.

For example, if the mother cat had fleas, then there's a huge possibility that all the kittens will have fleas. If there was another pet in the home such as another cat, or dog, then again, there's a possibility that even though the mother cat wasn't allowed out while she was nursing her kittens, fleas were brought in by the other pets.

The anemic signs become more prominent depending on the degree of affection by the hookworm. Hookworm larvae can pass directly through the skin and cause problems in the affected ones. Such dogs may reveal lesions pertaining to the dermatitis in the feet region and in the skin areas. Skin rashes may be seen frequently in such cases and the affected animal passes loose stool, which is of red tinged and mixed with blood material.

In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten. Have this ready for when you first bring kitten into your home and if you find a flea on your kitten, follow the instructions on the box or bottle. Remember that the kitten is already going to be feeling very insecure at this point, and so you must keep talking gentle to him and not frighten him more than necessary.

It's much better if you can do this on your own without any other family members/pets in the room so as to keep the environment calm. Once he's clean, allow him to meet the rest of the family, but don't allow him back into the cat carrier, or onto any bedding/toys that had contact with him before you did the flea treatment. Make sure that you wash these all out thoroughly before he's allowed to have them back.

While dog's are fairly simple and indelibly loyal: A cat will make you work for their loyalty and have many mysterious actions and gestures that need to be decoded, in order for you to be the best cat owner you can be. Decoding cat behavior is an intellectual journey, as much as it is a labor of love.

Below you will find some common cat behavior, along with their general meaning:

Paw Flicking

We've all seen our cat lift their paws and flick them around, one by one. This cat behavior is generally accepted as disgust, or displeasure with something around them. Those of you who have strictly indoor cats may have never seen their cat get their paws wet: But when they do the look on their face becomes unhappy and paw flicking soon follows.

Ear Positioning

When a cat has their ear straight up in the air and/or slightly forward, it usually means they're interested in you or what's going on around them. When their ears point backward, it indicates they're not happy or not interested. Ears backward can also indicate a feeling of rejection.

"Paw Massage"

Sometimes referred to as kneading: The paw massage is your cat's way of showing you how happy they are. When you snuggle with your contented kitty cat, they will often start massaging your body with their front paws. They also do this with their blankets and bedding, but when they massage you it's a sure sign of contentedness.

Tail Movements

Tail movements can be the easiest cat behavior to interpret, or the easiest depending on the situation. When a cat wags their tail with short movements, it can indicate interest, happiness, or be interpreted in any number of different ways. When they move their tail in wide, side-to-side, concentric movements it usually indicate they're getting reading to fight, defend themselves, or they will also show this kind of tail movement before pouncing on their prey (or a toy).
