Buying a dog, any kind of dog has both up and down sides. This is no different for a Boston; however Boston Terrier health and other concerns should be brought to your attention, before you go out and become an owner. They may drool, can be neurotic, wheeze, fart, snort, snuffle and may even be slow to house break, and all of this before you even look at their health.
All terriers are sturdy animals who are not delicate, but they are small. On the whole Bostons are good natured, have beautiful round, expressive eyes, a short snout, jowls, short glossy fur which is easy to take care of and they are not lap dogs. However if you give them the opportunity they will sit on your lap. They are passionate about playing with balls and playing other games.
If you were to be considering a Boston Terrier as a choice of dog for yourself or family, your major concerns should be their unstable temperament. It is unfortunate that no matter how many puppy mills are closed down, another one will always spring up somewhere and you have to be carefully your Boston Terrier does not come from one of these. In fact you have to be careful that no dog you buy comes from a puppy mill, because supporting them simply perpetuates the problem
Boston terriers may also be put up for sale by people who have no idea how to breed them. In other word they have no knowledge of how to breed a dog with a good temper. Behavioral advisers and dog obedience instructors see many Boston Terriers who are neurotic and yap mindlessly, are aggressive or hyperactive. So good breeding is essential!
Most terriers show some symptoms of neuroses; this is what makes many of the breeds so energetic and charming. With training and plenty of love and attention, the neuroses can be controlled, but Bostons don't like doing what they are told, so you need to be more strong willed than they are. House breaking may take 6 months of constant attention, but pretty much every dog I have ever owned, has taken this long, and I don't think this is abnormal.
Because Bostons are a short nosed breed, they are quite noisy little dogs, they snuffle, snort, wheeze, snore and grunt. While I love these noises and think they are cute, other dog owners may not. Because of the short nose, the jowls are loose and they sometimes drool if they have just eaten or taken a drink of water.
As any dog owner knows, dogs, just like people are prone to flatulence, some more than others, just like people. The Boston Terrier can send you screaming for cover, but if they are fed on a diet of proper meat and other good fresh food, this helps with the problem. It is all about the correct diet.
Most short faced dogs have breathing and other health problems, because of over-breeding they suffer from various health issues. You will need to read up on these and be aware of them.
These terriers have a very unique personality, but then all dogs do. They come in the calm variety, but also in the energetic. They can be stubborn or sweet, serious or a real goofball. The most important thing for you to do is love them, they will love you in return, this is a guarantee.

For those who do not know this small inquisitive and sometimes humorous toy breed, they have no idea of what they may be missing out on, caring for Boston Terrier puppies is not only entertaining, but also, these puppies have a lot of love to give.
Boston Terriers are a very curious breed of toy dog from the non sporting AKC group. Standing anywhere from 15 inches to about 17 inches in height you can find those under the breed standard as well as over. Normally weighing in around 10 to 25 pounds they're considered the American Gentleman of the toy breeds.
These are not small boned or petite little dogs, but instead are considered sturdy little dogs with a very playful attitude. They work very well for families with upper elementary grade children and offer a willingness to be immersed in the whole family. They love to please and take harsh criticism personally, in fact, it's best to scold rather than get heavy handed, as the tone of voice speaks to them very well.
They are often seen in the common color combination of black and white, and yet other colors are accepted by the AKC. Their coat is short and they do not require frequent bathing, but a bit of a brush now and then will keep them shiny.
Boston Terrier puppies are just about like any other pup, curious, inquisitive and wanting to do the right thing, so training is a breeze if attention is paid to the small details.
Remember, your Boston Terrier puppy is a baby, and just like other babies, too much activity, a sudden change in diet or lifestyle or not enough nap time can have them not only tired and cranky, but potentially ill. Because of their small size, frequent feedings and naps are best at keeping your puppy healthy and happy.
You'll find that crate training is a great choice for not just bathroom training, but it also gives them a safe and out from underfoot place to decompress and take a nap.
You'll need to make judgment calls with your puppy just as you would any other baby, and if they do not head for their crate on their own to nap, you may want to enforce rest, also, keep water close to the crate, and your pup won't have problems with dehydration.
If you do not already have a veterinarian, be sure to start your puppy's life out right with a visit to get to know your local Vet. Find out what type of pet insurance they accept as well as their schedule for vaccinations. Do not skip your puppy's vaccination boosters, as a puppy's immunity is not fully prepared until after 4 months of age, and even with vaccines can catch many of the local strains of disease and virus'.
Boston Terrier pups fit in well with older individuals, apartments, and families without tiny children. With their lively active sense of humor and natural curiosity you'll want to make sure and provide a safe environment when your home and when more importantly when your away.
The Boston Terrier is a great breed of small dog, and will suit in many situations, follow your Vet's schedule, check on the available pet health insurance they take, and always make sure your Boston pup has a safe place to spend their time when you're not around, such as a puppy pen or a crate.

When you bought your new Boston Terrier you may not have realized what it would entail. There is dog walking, periodic feedings, and lastly the dreaded Boston Terrier puppy training. Thankfully, this particular breed is one of the easiest trained dogs available. They are highly intelligent and have the uncanny ability to pick up on the moods of those around them.
An important thing to remember about this breed is that you need to practice socialization from the moment that they come home. These dogs can become very hostile around people if they are not used to being around a crowd. The more you introduce them to new people the friendlier they will be.
Training your puppy should start immediately. The best tip that anyone can be given is to be stable. You need to teach them certain commands and stick with the very same commands each time you train them. They are creatures of habit and will quickly get confused if you are all over the place with your instructions.
Training your puppy
Puppy training can seem frustrating at times, but you need to be patient if you want your puppy to listen. If you get easily angered or fed up you will surely upset your new pet. Staying calm is the best way to get the training to work. The next thing that you need to do is choose the methods of training that you are going to use. There are several kinds to be considered with each one offering something different.
Crate training: This type of training is the best way to house train your new Boston Terrier puppy. You will need to find a crate that is big enough for your puppy to stand in and move a bit, but not large enough that the dog can comfortably use a corner without having to lay in it. Take the dog out to use the bathroom before placing them in the crate. Make the puppy completely comfortable while in the crate. Leave your dog there in gradually increasing increments until they are able to stay there during the night without stress. The moment you take the dog out you should go outside. Eventually, they will learn that the only place they go is in the great outdoors.
Obedience training: This is the most important training since it is so important that your dog listens to what you say. By using words like good and bad when your dog follows commands you will teach them right and wrong. When they do follow your instructions, and be ready with a healthy treat to encourage them to keep up the good work.
Behavior modification: Having a dog that jumps all over people or barks all of the time is miserable and can even be embarrassing at times. Behavior modification is the most effective Boston Terrier puppy training there is to control how your dog is acting. You can do this much similar to the obedience training including the treats and rewards.
Training your new Boston Terrier puppy is not difficult providing that you stick with the exact same routine each day. It will make the training easier and your puppy will be more well adjusted.
