Recently after reading a couple of stories regarding animal cruelty towards cats especially, I can't believe the carelessness and complete lack of regard some people seem to have for the life of another.
One story, the story of Pink caught my eye. Pink was put over a fence into someone's back garden at night. The home owner contacted the RSPCA as soon as they noticed the cat, as they inspected the cat they realized it had been dyed pink.
It was later revealed that Pink's real name was Oi! Kitty and it was her owner whop dyed the naturally white cat pink to match her hair. The cat's owner came forward after seeing the attention the case had attracted and asked the RSPCA to return her cat.
The disturbing thing was that she got the idea to dye her cat from an American TV show where she saw them do similar things to dogs. The woman told newspapers that she had used food colouring knowing that it would cause no harm as its edible and would cause the cat no harm. The real problem though was the blatant lack of regard for the animal's welfare. The huge amount of stress you would be putting then animal under as you hold them still to apply the dye then trying to stop the cat from cleaning themselves to get the dye time to set in. It's a dreadful ordeal to put any animal through.
I was shocked to hear that the owner in fact saw nothing wrong in her actions!
Another story that caught my eye was that of the 3 month old kitten found left to die in a plastic bag dumped in a communal refuse area. A neighbour luckily heard the cries of the kitten and called the RSPCA.
It just astounds me how people can be so careless and ready to just wash their hands of something such as a living creature the moment it no longer suites them to keep it. These animals depend on us for pretty much everything, it sickens me to think how easy it is for some people to just simply cast something aside like that and dodge responsibility.
My personal opinion is that the law and the RSPCA are not tough enough on offenders and to allow these people to carry on with their pets after repeat offences is just blatant ignorance.
What do you think, discuss and let us know!
