New puppies can start off getting socialized as early as 2 to 3 weeks after birth. Most adopted puppies join their new family at about 7 to 8 weeks of age. The socialization of a puppy should commence as near the beginning as possible. However puppies tend to be more afraid and tentative until the time that they are 14 weeks old so during the initial days make sure that you are gentle with them.

Socialization is a ability that should be trained throughout a dog's life. Different situations and circumstances can affect a dog and he can change from warm and outgoing to nervous, afraid or even threatening. That is why it is essential to train in socialization skills throughout your dog's life. Permit him to experience a range of situations, different people and other animals.

Let your dog become familiar with other dogs and other animals. You can take him to a park or a doggie daycare or even just go to see friends who have pets. Be sure that your dog has had all of his shots first but it is critical for his socialization to meet up with others.

People who appear to your dwelling frequently should all be familiar to your dog. That would include the mailperson. Introduce them and let your dog get familiar. If it is feasible make sure that you take your dog around many diverse people, as it will increase his social skills immensely.

Dogs are natural pack animals and they will reconstruct the pack in their new home. This means that it is critical that humans are always seen as the prevailing member of the pack. When a human speaks the dog should mind, every time, no matter what. The dog is the follower and the humans are the leaders.

Socialization should carry on throughout the life of your dog. Your dog needs to frequently come across new situations and new people and animals. He will be less prone to develop troubles like biting and fighting if he is well socialized.

Your dog training will be more successful and you and other people will like your pet more if he is correctly socialized and well-behaved in the majority of situations.
