1. It is important that you build a strong relationship with your dog. The relationship needs to be based on mutual respect and trust for each other. However, you still need to remember that you are the owner and therefore you are in charge!

2. Confidence is key to the success of training your dog to be obedient, know your abilities and stay in control!

3. When it comes to obedience training for dogs it is important that not only they are sociable but also that they are happy and outgoing. This way you will find your dog will be much happier to obey the commands that you give to them.

4. Of course the other thing that is important when training dogs is that you work with their natural drives and instincts. This will again make them trust and respect you more.

There are many training tips, tricks and techniques for getting your dog to obey your commands. Below we take a look at some of the most important.

Rule 1. When your dog does as you ask, you should praise and reward them for doing so. However, if they do not, then you need to correct them immediately as this will help them to understand where they have gone wrong. Unfortunately a dogs concentration span is not that long and if you fail to correct any problems immediately then they will simply carry on.

Rule 2. A dogs concentration level is not a high as a humans so do not expect your dog to know what you are teaching them straightaway. It is only through repeating the commands time and time again they will start to learn. You also need to believe in the training you are giving your dog and remain focused on achieving your goals with them.

Rule 3. Make sure you provide feedback whatever the outcome when teaching your dog new commands, this will let the dog no whats acceptable and what is not.

Rule 4. Be realistic when teaching new obedience skills not all dogs are the same, some are going to take longer to pick up the commands. What you should never do is punish your dog if they are wrong in the initial stages.

Rule 5. As well as making sure that each training session does not drag on, make sure that it is fun and sharp. This will help them understand what is required from you.

Rule 6. Start off slow when teaching you dog new commands, because this is all new to them it will take time. Teach your dog new trick and techniques one at a time, this will save confusion and able the dog to learn faster.

Rule 7. Its important that you incorporate the obedience training into the dogs everyday life and not just in training sessions. This will allow your dog to learn at a faster rate, as an example " when feeding your dog make them sit and wait before you give them their food.

Rule 8. Correcting your dog should only be done if they have done wrong. Never correct or punish a dog that is not out of line, if you do this will cause confusion and lack of respect for you.

Rule 9. Always treat your dog with a reward every time they get a command correct, this will please the dog and let them know that they have done the right thing, making them aware for the next time.

Rule 10. If you do find it difficult teaching your dog obedience, then there are plenty of dog training classes all over the UK, attending these once a week will pay dividends. Have a look for the nearest class in your area!
