If you love your dog as much as I do then you care about his health. Your dog is your friend, protector and companion, but they have health concerns too. All pet owners at some point have a sick dog. You want the best health care for your pet. This is especially true if you have a senior dog like I do. I worry about every cough, does he seem a bit more sleepy, is his balance off?

Put on those running shoes and grab the leash, your dog needs exercise. All dogs, regardless of age, sex, or health level, require some sort of exercise every day. Your dog needs to release some energy regularly to be a happy and healthy companion. Different dogs require different amounts of exercise so be aware of what your dog's needs are. Is he a herding dog who needs to run every day or is he a little guy who only requires a short stroll a few times a day to be happy? Keep in mind that even older dogs need a bit of regular exercise.

A fenced yard or local park is ideal for exercising your dog. All dogs love a good game of fetch so bring a ball or other dog toys to liven things up. Just as exercise strengthens our heart, lungs and muscles, it will do the same thing for your dog.

Feeding your animal off the table is ill advised. Nutrition for your dog depends on a number of factors. If ill, feed your dog back to health by feeding him beef liver. It's not just rich in iron, but rich in protein, B complex, and Vitamin B12. Feeding issues is of the more difficult dog health questions to answer because there isn't a complete answer. Ask your trusted vet if you have any concerns. They can also help you determine the best food choice for your dog.

Prevention involves, above all, regular veterinary checkups and professional cleanings beginning early in your dog or cat's life. It is possible to maintain oral health at home, but it's impossible to do a thorough cleaning on an animal who's awake. Preventive treatment should include such imperatives, e.g., vaccination, dental care, parasite removal, etc. This will ensure that your dog enjoys good health at all times.
