Cats have fascinated and intrigued people of the world, for ages. First domesticated then worshipped in ancient Egypt , later bred and exported abroad, cats became loyal companions and objects of admiration.

Cats have been a source of inspiration for writers and artists--one has only to look at the Broadway musical "Cats" for evidence of this.

Cats were played the central roles in literature chef d`oeuvres, such as "Master and Margarita" by L Tolstoy, Cats were irreplaceable companions for known figures like Sir Winston Churchill, where his cat Jock needed to be present at the table for any meal to begin.

Sir Isaac Newton created the cat door, or cat flap, so that his feline friends could come and go as they wished without letting too much light into his laboratory. Even though this device was invented in the 17th century, it is still in demand as the preferred way to allow a cat to have his freedom and access to the house at the same time.

Cats have even inspired scientists; Nikola Tesla ruminated about what electricity was while stroking his cat cat Macak while a child. Tesla was intrigued by the static and sparks that occurred as he stroked his friend and his curiosity ultimately led him to his groundbreaking findings in mechanical and electrical engineering.

Cat's gracious movements, the mesmerizing eyes and the hypnotizing purr are appealing to everyone. Today, there are many clubs of " Cat lovers" , cat clothing lines and elite grooming salons. People appreciate pets such as cats so much, that sometimes they go on shopping sprees just to please them and purchase items like the frontline plus for cats.

Cats may be lovely to look at but they are also very therapeutic and proffer health benefits to their owners and people who spend time with them. A study done in 2002 at the State University of New York (K, Allen, J. Blascovich, and W.B. Mendes) discovered that being exposed to a cat and petting a cat can significantly lower a person's blood pressure. The article was titled "Cardiovascular reactivity and the presence of pets friends and spouses: the truth about cats and dogs" contains ample evidence and support that cats can indeed reduce stress and be beneficial to a cat owner's health.

Cats are extremely popular in North America because they are indoor animals that are low in maintenance. The American Veterinary Medical Association in 2007 stated that in the United States there are over 82 million felines being kept as pets. A cat that is an indoor cat only will have a significantly longer lifespan when compared with a cat who is allowed outdoors. Indoor cats will not be hit by a car, exposed to cat fights, and an indoor cat simply will not be exposed to the various diseases and bacteria that are endemic in the outdoor cat population. Whether or not you decide to let your cat out or keep your friend indoors at all times will depend upon your personal circumstances and is ultimately your decision. You must love and care for your cat. If you take someone in, you are responsible for them. Do not let them down.

"Time spend with cats is never wasted" - Sigmund Freud.
