Many people are turned off by the potential expenses and hassles of bringing up guinea pigs.

However, if you decide to do so, scope out your neighborhood first for any other breeders. Your efforts might be an exercise in futility if there are already existing sellers near you.

You need to be sure that you have enough knowledge to talk clearly about guinea pigs with the potential buyers, and explain exactly what they need to do with their guinea pigs. You also should have a list to give them on what their guinea pig can and cannot eat, because no one likes their guinea pigs to be poisoned!

You should already have a market in mind for your pigs, because you don't want to be left with so many that you will not be able to care for them properly.

Procedures and Protocols

The ladies have to be old enough to carry children. Make sure they are at least half a year old.

There is only a one day period after their sixteen day-cycle that they will be able to mate. The rest of the time, you should allow your pigs to have their own freedom.

The procreation procedure begins with the man going toward the woman with his head down.

He will rumble and grumble while sashaying his hips.

The males can sometimes even do a mating 'dance', where they will put their front legs on anything that's available and move to attract his female. This can include side to side waving, wiggling, and waggling.

While this is very humorous to watch, remember that this mating ritual has been intact for hundreds of years, and it has evolved to be the best the species can bring. That being said, it's polite to leave the room if you're going to laugh!

A woman will start to moan as the man draws near, if she likes the guy.

If she doesn't feel the moment however, she can get really nasty. She will snarl and tear at him. The might even resort to peeing on him.

On the other hand, when the girl wants some action, she will prance around and sashay in his direction, in exactly the same way the guy would.

She might even be aggressive enough to press herself on his body just to get him to notice her. Do not freak out if you see this. This is how they really do it.

Successfully, the male can mate with up to ten women in one time period, but that seems excessive - do you really want to impregnate that many females?
