The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise had made their marks in the canine world as superb companion dogs. What happens then if people start crossing them? The outcome would be the Cavachon, an entirely new breed and seemingly another superb companion dog.

Called as a designer dog, the Cavachon is now popularly seen living mostly in an apartment type of dwelling. Moreover, what makes this dog a top favorite of some people is the fact that its coat is very low shedding. This dog is considered as hypo-allergenic that's why many people with allergies to dog hair and dander choose it as a pet.

In appearance and temperament, each Cavachon vary because it would depend on what parent breed it inherits such characteristics the most. Generally though, this breed has large curious eyes that manifest intelligence. Its body is gently wrapped around a fluffy pelt but still manages to look energetic and strong.

This breed gives off an image of sturdiness, energy and alertness; and it is also very animated. Indoors, the Cavachon is full of zest but it can put off its activity in order to spend some quality time on the couch with the master. When deciding to take this breed outdoors, make sure that it is only released in an enclosed yard, but if you decide to take it for a walk, make sure that it is leashed.

The Cavachon makes a good house pet as it is friendly with humans especially children. It gets along well with other dogs and you can always count the Cavachon to dwell peacefully with other people or creatures in the house. However, this dog can be cautious and alert and this is manifested through its signaling of the household whenever it hears a strange sound or sees a stranger approaching.

This dog is utterly affectionate, fun loving and gentle; it is best if it can always receive attention and not ignored for long periods of time. The Cavachon is also highly intelligent but training it requires patience and firmness from the master. However, this dog is famous for being not easy to housebreak therefore it is best to train it in obedience and socialization as young as possible.

Sizes of Cavachons range from small to medium and their weight can go between 12 to 20 pounds. They also have smooth and fluffy coats that come in colors of peach and white, sable and white, black and white, red and white, lemon and white, and tri-color which is a combination of black, white and tan. Interestingly though, the tri-colored puppies turn to lighter colors as they grow old while the black and white ones remain as is until adulthood.

Keeping the Cavachon clean and neat require regular grooming in forms of daily coat brushing, professional clipping, and regular cleaning of the ears. Dental hygiene of this dog shouldn't be neglected as well as it is prone to teeth loss at an early age. This dog is also susceptible to many health concerns and these include various skin problems, heart problems, hip dysplasia, allergic reaction to flea bites, and ear infection.
