Dec 21...Winter Solstice, longest night of the year. An endless night. Shalimar grunted as if she was having a bad dream as she slept on my pillow. I nudged her to wake her but she wouldn't wake up. 3rd eyelid showed and she was unresponsive for 30 or more seconds. I've had enough cats to know if they feel safe with you they'll awaken slow sometimes chirruping as the wriggle and stretch. Or if it's sudden they're alert in 2 seconds. Shalimar had a seizure, luckily with no side effects -- so we thought. She weighed 3.5kg-- ever since Aug. '14 when we lost our calico Charlotte to breast cancer. Shal and Charli ate, played, groomed and slept together. Charli was a year older and helped us raise Shal from week old-- fit in your palm blessing. Shal was almost 7kg then but she mourned Charli for 6 months or more and lost weight til she was 3.5. 2 weeks later sfter nibbling, Shal was skin and bones at 2.9 kg. The regular vet agreed edit was a seizure. We took her to a specialist that Fri 21st. Dec.she barely reached out to us any more. Hardly slept. Seemed hungry but left the food after 1 bite. The night before dreamed of her standing on the ground. She scratched it a bit the dissapated into dots that went in to the earth, dropped like water, some blew off in a mild breeze and a few left as sparks. She became earth water air and fire-- the 4 elements. The specialist vet took her home gave us a report of 7 o clock pm that her body was cold so Shal was on a heating pad. Then he called at 9pm and my Partner got the phone. Shal was her first cat and the lived each other so much. I'd pick Shal up and she'd touch my face with her paw and give me nose kisses. Shal had more love in one hair on her body than a thousand people could give. My legs gave out. Shal was gone. A few minutes later I was stunned at a sudden vision of Charli lying next to her with a paw around Shal as she vigorously washed Shal's face. I had no doubt that they were together once more. Only 13 years. We want more-- for Charli too. But our hearts were sliced open. 13 years of love and smug cuddle faces from Shalimar. Today Shal's been gone a month. Someday I'll see her again and Charlotte and all the rest. For now it hurts so bad even if our other 2 cats come over for kisses and pets. They saw Shal before she left, in her bed in the floor. Both walked over-- stayed a couple of seconds to say good bye and moved on. Without her the longest night is still inside me. ... See MoreSee Less

My doggie, Athena, crossed the rainbow bridge two weeks ago today. I made these cakes for my co-workers who took care of her while she was hospitalized. (I work at a 24hr veterinary hospital.)

It's yellow cake with vanilla buttercream, in between the layers is caramel popcorn (crunch n' munch) and salted caramel sauce.

My girl absolutely loved popcorn, so I wanted to include it in some way as a tribute to her.

Hello all. I have a hard question to ask and would like your opinion.
I have a 12 1/2 year old Boston named Molly who has lost her one of her eyes to glaucoma and the other looks like it’s getting there too. There are nights when I wake up to her getting lost in a corner of a house, which to me sounds like doggie dementia but since she’s blind I’ve been thinking she’s simply lost. She’s very Sporadic when it comes to food. There are days she won’t eat all day and then the following day she would eat. Sometimes I’d try to hoax her and put some treats in her food to entice her to eat but that most of the time doesn’t work. Molly does sleep a lot and I also noticed a handful of times in the last few months she would get bursts of play but that only lasts for a few min. She’s consistently hitting her head when travels around the house. I do my best to place a hand against the wall to prevent her knocking into the wall. She has been having more frequent accidents in the house, whether it be poop, pee, vomit, it’s been happening. I’ve been giving her CBD oil but I feel that isn’t helping. So I guess my question is , should I help her cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge to doggie heaven or shouId I be doing something more? This whole thing has got me so sad and depressed, by best friend is going through this and I feel awful and not sure what’s the best thing to do.
