A breed that has several lines which all originated from the US is what the Blackmouth Cur is. Each of this line has a special skill that has been useful for a lot of people in the US such as farmers, ranchers, families and many more. This breed is called multi-purpose for reasons that it is skillful in many fields such as treeing, hunting, herding, guarding, search and rescue, and more.

These different lines are: the Ladner Yellow Blackmouth Cur that originated from Mississippi. This line was the first Blackmouth Cur dog to be registered in a kennel club, the National Kennel Club in 1964. This particular Blackmouth Cur is good in treeing and hunting squirrels, raccoons, bobcats and other game; hunting and herding, and search and rescue efforts.

The Red Blackmouth Cur is another line that came from Alabama. It has been useful as a herder, hunter and guard dog. It is said that the courthouses of Howardtown, Alabama owned this line of the Blackmouth Cur in the 1940s.

There are also the Wetherford Ben Blackmouth Cur and Florida Blackmouth Cur. They came from Texas and Florida respectively and are great herders. The Blackmouth Cur is a breed that can perform a lot of tasks that's why it has been popular all over the US and now, its popularity reaches as far as India, Russia, Haiti and throughout Europe.

For decades, the Blackmouth Cur has been called by different names like: farmer's dog, Shepherd's Hound, cow dog, and Herdsman's Dog. The Cur name of this breed has also been spelled in different ways like Cu, Curre and Kurre. The American Kennel Club does not recognize any lines from this breed as an official member but the United Kennel Club recognizes the Red Blackmouth Cur as the standard picture of the Blackmouth Cur.

This breed is very popular in treeing and hunting, and has excellent jumping and climbing abilities. Because of this, it is a requirement to have at least a six feet high fence to enclose this athletic dog. The Blackmouth Cur is a strong and brave creature that can gather stubborn cattle that strayed from the flock and even face a grizzly whenever it is threatened by one.

This dog is very loyal and loving when it comes to the family that owns it. It makes an excellent watchdog and guard dog because it is protective of the master, his family and his property. This breed also loves to please the master and so teaching it some commands will be easy as it is a fast learner and is an intelligent dog.

The coat of the Blackmouth Cur is short and can be either smooth or coarse. The coat color of the breed can be red, black, white, yellow, buckskin or fawn, or brindle. The feet of the Blackmouth Cur are similar to the Catahoula Leopard's as they are also big and webbed.
