Contrary to popular belief, your home is no longer the safest place for you and your pets to live in. In fact, the U.S. Environment Protection Agency discovered that indoor air is fifty times more polluted than outdoor air. What's even more scary is the fact that you spend 90% of your time indoors - a large fraction of which is spent in the comforts of your home. Before you start building a tent outside your bedroom window, let me tell you that it's not too late. Make a difference, go green! If you love your family and your pets, take that big step towards making sure they have a clean and safe world to live in. Starting at home.

Why Should You Go Green? There are a lot of reasons why you should make the green switch. Mother Earth should be one of them. But if you're not so much of an environment gung-ho, check out the following perks:

Going green helps reduce your pet's carbon footprint, including your own. Taking part in the crusade to reduce humanity's carbon footprint helps give Mother Earth time to heal herself every year.

By giving your home a green makeover, you can make it a safer, cleaner place to live in for you and your pets. You'll be able to decrease the chances your pet will be exposed to the chemicals that build up inside our home everyday. These chemicals enter our home through various commercial products that seem harmless at first glance.

You save money! Becoming a green pet owner can save you money by sparing yourself extra trips to the veterinarian or even to the family doctor. You save money by recycling and promoting sustainable living. Instead of buying commercial products, you can create your own stuff right at the comforts of your home. This means you'll never have to worry about what harmful chemicals you, your pet and your family are coming into contact with everyday.

Like I said you can't go green overnight, but that does not have to mean you can't start now. In time, you'll be living the green life with your pet. Here are a few green pet tips you can start with:

Save a pet from euthanasia today! Adopt from an animal shelter. Save money by adopting one of the 70,000 kittens and puppies born everyday in the U.S.

If you already have a bundle of furry joy with you, make sure he's spayed or neutered to prevent unwanted breeding. Not only will you ensure that your pet lives a longer life by decreasing the chances he might develop cancer and prostate disease, you will also make a difference by ensuring that the homeless animal population stays at bay.

Be your pet's own chef! It's the best way for you to keep track of what goes into your pet's mouth and your pet's digestive system.

Use green pet grooming shampoos, soaps, flea treatments and even bath towels! Dont just stop there. Start using eco-friendly detergent and cleaning products too. Or if you want to save money, go all-natural. You'll find that vinegar and baking soda can be your best friends. When all else fails, ask advice from mom. You won't regret it.

Start getting crafty. Instead of buying toys for your green pet, why not make them yourself? In fact, you can go all the way and recycle some old objects in your house and turn them in to toys. Just make sure that the items you use are made of materials safe for your pet. Rule of thumb: don't give your pets anything you would't give your kids.

You can never go wrong by going green. Just follow my tips above.
