Excessive barking without a real reason can be annoying and upsetting to you, your household members, and of course, your neighbors.

What Should You Do?

Figure out why your dog barks so much. What triggers the barking? Is it people walking past the house or yard? Is it boredom? If you can eliminate the underlying issue, you might not need a collar for your barking dog.

If the reason for the barking is stress or anxiety, then a barking collar will only make it worse. Instead of punishing your dog for a natural reaction, try to use positive reinforcement with your pet. For example, you can stay next to your dog and calm it down while at the same time activating a stimulus, like a ringing phone, or a big group of people, so that it gets used to it and loses its fear. You might even ask for advice or help from a professional dog handler.

A good idea to eliminate excessive barking is through the use of a bark collar. Bark collars use one or more of three different methods in order to train dogs.

First, citrus spray collars release a spray whenever the dog barks. These Bark collars often emit a hissing sound that warns the dog so that it can stop the barking before getting the spray.

Other types of anti barking collars use ultrasound waves that can only be heard by the dog and that is activated whenever the dog starts barking. The dog eventually learns to link the sound to the barking and reduces its barking.

Finally, electronic bark collars work by giving a small shock to the dog's neck whenever it barks. This shock is very mild and harmless, but it will certanly call the dog's attention.

Barking Collars can really help deter the excessive barking of a dog. They come in citrus spray, sonic or ultrasonic emission, and electrical shock. All of these are harmless, yet effective in reducing the amount of barking.
